Mutter

Tycker det är märkligt att Rammstein inte har med ett enda album på originallistan. Skulle funka med vilket som helst även om Mutter är den mest självklara. Här finns knappt ett enda svagt spår. Min första Rammsteinspelning jag var på var just Mutterturnén. Sen har det blivit en handfull konserter till. Här blir det förstås högsta betyg.

Mutter is the third album of German metal band Rammstein. This type of music style is called Neue Deutsche Härte, a crossover style drawing from Neue Deutsche Welle, alternative metal, groove metal, electro-industrial and techno. I think Rammstein also owes a lot to Die Krupps as a Industrial Metal band. As on all Rammstein albums this album also contains funny lyrics that are a bit polarizing also. This album is their first album with ballad like songs (f.e. "Mutter") that work out fine. Personally I prefer Sehnsucht, their second an international breakthrough album. Still Rammstein is not a band to listen to on an album, you should see them live. Their live shows are among the best in visual, pyrotechnical and chorographical design and a treat to attend.

Been avoiding Rammstein so long thinking they were overrated. But this was surprisingly good

Hell yeah! A great album, from a time in my life when I was exploring this style of music, and I knew just enough German that it didn't matter that genius.com didn't exist yet! Heavy and hard, and an album that demands to be played loud - what's not to love!

Wow I can see how this had a lot of influence… really great album! Spieluhr was so great I listened a few times and looked up a translation. Surprising that of the 6 songs released as singles off this album this wasn’t one of them, nor was Zwitter which is another favorite. This kind of fun dark industrial metal appeals to me a great deal. Definitely an album worth listening to some more. Lots of fun even though I mostly have no idea what they are singing about.

In which industrial metal broke containment and caught on a little more in the anglo world. In the time since this came out I've picked up enough german to understand most of the lyrics, which is mostly useful for revealing that Rammstein is very funny. Like for all the intensity of their music, they distinctly have a sense of humor and irony about them. It's a fun extra layer. Bumping them an extra star for cultural relevance, they really should have had something show up on the main list.

Such a gimme pick that I've completely forgotten this wasn't on the original list. No Rammstein album was for some reason. Certified classic. Legendary 6 track run of some of the biggest industrial metal hits of all time, and the second half ain't too shabby either. Geiler Scheiss, 5/5.

An absolute classic

I wanted it to go harder.

The strength of this album is it's simpel riffs of really short guitar notes, that make it sound very 'strict'. It produced a lot of Rammstein's best known song, and surely is a banger of an album

A really great introduction to industrial metal. Some of these songs could probably be considered classics now, and the whole album has a huge, distinctive sound. You almost forget they’re singing in German, the music and Till Lindemann’s delivery are so powerful that the language barely matters.

Très nice! Première fois que j’écoute du Rammstein, définitivement pas la dernière! C’est pile poil le genre de métal que j’aime: lourd, lent, voix guttural et pas de crisse de scream! En bonus, un ptit peu d’électro par-ci par-là! À réécouter!

The juxtaposition of the utterly silly (the music) and the utterly art-ponce bullshit is very pronounced here. The music is campy industrial with the dials turned up to eleven. The visuals of the album sleeve are, as alluded to, a pinnacle of art ponce. Maybe not pinnacle. Nadir. Ultimately, Rammstein are far more on the silly side - and I wish they'd properly embrace that in the way that (say) Rob Zombie did in essentially the same genre, because it'd be much easier to justify the time for it. The music is what we're here for though, ultimately, and yes - it's pretty good. Not great, mainly because they do approach things from a very precise, meticulously planned hyper-spectacle mindset, but for a time in the early 2000s this sort of thing was lapped up by people who saw the club scenes in The Matrix and either wanted to be Monica Bellucci or wanted to be dommed by Monica Bellucci.

Standouts: Sonne, Ich Will, Mutter Really great sound. Loved the album when it came out - so listening to it now in my old age it brings back some good memories. Glad to see this added to the list. 4/5

Another band I've heard about forever but hardly heard any of. Happy to read that the kind of persistent suggestions of, you know, Nazi-sympathist dogwhistles seem to be pretty much baseless. The German flavor of America's Satanic Panic, to be applied to all deep-n- dark scary music, maybe. Musically it seemed pretty standard metal, a little more operatic and theatrical than I expected. Not really for me, that vocal affect I don't much care for in much metal is all that much more so delivered in Teutonic growling. I didn't dislike it though.

Rammstein is a band I have been aware of since as long as I can remember but haven’t ever really listened to them because it’s not my type of music. This album hasn’t changed my mind but full respect to them.
