pretty good album
I don’t really have strong feelings for it, positive or negative.
it’s pretty groovy, I guess.
it had an awkward start but by the end I thought it was pretty good.
in terms of overall quality, I’d give it an 8/10 - it’s well written and composed and other than a few awkward parts, holds up really well.
however when it comes to my own preference I think I’d give it a 6/10. it’s not bad, it’s just not something I’d feel like listening to again for a while.
Most the stuff I liked from the album is easy to find in other albums (like Santanas debut) and most of the stuff that made it unique like the harmonica or the jaw harp, I didn’t really like.
Again, not saying it’s bad. I believe it’s an objectively good album, but on my own preference, I just didn’t really like it a whole lot.
Hell yeah, such a great album.
I’ve listened to some of Steely Dans songs before (always loving them) but never got around to listening to one of his albums.
Well I just finished this and it was just as good as I was hoping for.
One of my favorite songs from the album has gotta be Barrytown. On top of the really cool lyrics (Growing up in Salt Lake City, I can assume what the song is about) it has such a catchy composition and style. I really love this album, definitely one I’ll listen to again soon.
I’ll give it a 9/10.
My only complaint is that after listening to the whole album, I feel like I heard a little too much Steely Dan in a row. As much as I love his music, it can feel repetitive listening to a whole album of just that.
But still, the album is fairly diverse giving you something fresh with each track.
Great album, I’ll be listening to more Steely Dan in the future.
WOW
I am so glad I listened to that.
Perfect 10/10 for me. That was just miraculous. Actual sonic perfection.
It blows my mind that these groovy songs that slap so hard were made in the early 70’s before my parents were even born.
I have heard one of the songs before, Bongolia from Baby Driver. It’s really funny when I’m listening to old stuff like David Brubeck or Focus and am like… “Where have I heard this song before?”
And once I realize it’s Baby Driver, it makes me love the movie that much more just because of how based Edgar Wrights taste in music is.
Anyway, I couldn’t possibly recommend this album more. Actually just incredible.
walked into this totally blind and 34 minutes later I have to give it a 10/10.
I’m not too familiar with Van Halen. I’m familiar with the name but never looked into their discography.
I can’t help but feel like I’m missing some context on the significance of this album. Like all rock bands, I’m sure listening to their previous albums will help me appreciate this more, but still for what it is I think it’s amazing.
I love how fun, fast, and sassy it is. As soon as I heard that iconic and instantly recognizable synth in ‘Jump’ I knew this was going to be a great (although tragically short) album.
I’m a big fan of synth rock and pop rock and this hits all the right spots. I’ll look into more of Van Halen’s stuff for sure. I’m a little worried that 1984 is the peak and everything goes downhill from there tho.
Regardless, their self titled debut seems to have pretty high ratings so I’ll look into that one soon.
really fun album
old school hip hop is fun to listen to every now and then and it was nice to listen to this classic
I give it an 8/10
really fun album
kinda reminded me of magical mystery tour
i’ll try listening to more of The Who’s stuff soon
8/10
I’ve listened to Michael Jackson my whole life, mostly just the classics but those songs are some of the damn best songs to come out of the decade.
I’ve never listened to one of his albums before and I’m sad to say it’s really disappointing.
Maybe I’m just biased because I was only looking forward to the popular songs like Bad, Man in the Mirror, Smooth Criminal (Amazing songs by the way) but the rest of the album just sucked, the songs were all so bland.
Like every other song that wasn’t iconic sounded like a lame B-Track.
At best the songs were repetitive and cliché but at worst they sounded kinda rapey and insulting to the listener.
I don’t know, those three good songs really are amazing songs and for that I’ll give the album a 6/10.
I really wished the rest of the album could’ve had more quality in it.
it’s been a full week now and of course it comes back around to metal
my expectations were really low
I don’t really like metal, especially the Iron Maiden songs I’ve heard in the past
but this album was actually pretty good
I really liked the first two songs Prowler and Remember Tomorrow
the next three songs Running Free, Phantom of the Opera and Transylvania not so much
I mean track four had some nice bits in the middle but overall not really for me
that transition from Transylvania to Strange World tho, track six is really good
I like my rock progressive, I will eat up any art rock shit you throw at me, whether it’s King Crimson or Steve Hackett, Godspeed You! Black Demon or Silver Mt. Zion
I just really love that kind of stuff, and I felt parts of that in this album
I’d say Remember Tomorrow was my favorite song. It had a nice intro, decent hook and nice, compatible vocals
the song really worked well for me
close second is Strange World, also really nice and fairly proggy
the two finals songs after that don’t I didn’t really love either
anyway, really fun album, a few songs that were less than great but I thought that there was something to enjoy from every song and tracks 1, 2 and 6 were are really awesome
I’ll give it an 8/10
I really liked it, it was really cool
I doubt I’ll ever listen to any other Iron Maiden (unless it shows up on here) but I’m glad I listened to this album
this album FUCKIN SLAAPS, every songs a total banger
giving anything less than a 10/10 would be a sin
it was kinda hard to find this album since it’s not on apple music, but it IS on spotify for some reason so I just made a playlist with the correct track listing on apple music since all the songs are on The Complete Imperial Singles collection (except for The Fat Man’s Hop - which should not be confused with The Fat Man, a totally different song)
yeah this album is just the best, I love this sort of rock n’ roll meets jazz meets slight r&b elements
it’s such a fun album full of diverse, catchy, iconic bangers
I’ve never heard of this blessed man before hearing this album and he’s already one of my favorites now
that was… rough
look, I like being optimistic with music, but this was a damn hard able to enjoy
i don’t think i hate it, that’s too strong, i just felt pretty bleh listening to most of the songs
I liked the last minute of Summer Babe, reminded me a bit of Neutral Milk Hotel a tiny bit i guess?
I don’t know, i really, really love Neutral Milk Hotel and it’s hard to compare Jeff Mangums incredible work with this album
and the electric stuff in Fame Throwa sounded kinda cool, but christ i can’t stand the vocals
like i don’t mind weird vocals, i love Bjork and Jack Stauber and Ian Curtis, i don’t have anything against unique vocals.
but the damn singing on this album sounds like a flamboyant-emo starbucks employee reading his homemade poetry like he’s doing a limerick
i’ll give it a 4/10, like at least it was listenable, but i would really love to never hear this album again
wow i really loved that
maybe it’s just late and my heads a little fucky but that really felt like a magical experience listening to that
such beautiful, unique, diverse compositions with every track
like every time a song would be near the end I would get very excited wondering what fun surprise I would get next
he often mixed together genres that shouldn’t work but HOLY SHIT do they work well
i’ll give it a 9/10, it’s almost perfect, I have two minor complaints:
firstly his vocals aren’t very diverse, I don’t hate his voice but I don’t necessarily love it, he regularly uses effects to spice it up and compensate for the lack of diversity but still i’d like a little more effort from his voice I guess
and second isn’t really a flaw, more just preference but the rock genre isn’t really my favorite, it’s not bad but it’s not really something i like listening to normally
still this is such a great album, i’m very glad I listened to this, such amazing song writing and surreal story telling with the lyrics, just awesome
I’ll definitely be looking into more of Eels’ discography
that was actually really cool
just a dude messing around with the piano for an hour
i don’t know if i’ll be listening to it again very soon but i still really appreciated it for what it was
to think this dude could create such beautiful pieces off the top of his head just blows my mind
i love his talent and i think that album is very special to me
10/10 - no complaints, just a great album
really great album, my favorite songs are Tears of Rage and Lonesome Suzie.
such beautiful instrumentals and lyrics, with a really fun album cover, this is such a cool album. I’m glad I heard this.
i’ll give it an 8/10 for how much I enjoyed it, i’m not a huge country fan. The Weight had a nice chorus with the piano and all but i didn’t really like those verses, i mean they were okay, just not really my style.
overall, the album is groovy as fuck and i’ll definitely listen to their other albums, and i’ll watch the documentary that Scorsese directed
hell yeah, i love this album
i’ve liked Echo & The Bunnymen for years and i’ve heard most of the songs on this album already but i don’t think i’ve actually heard the whole thing front to back before and it was a really great experience.
least favorite song was Thorn of Crowns, it was just kind of lame to listen to but i loved all the other songs.
my favorite song has to be the one that got me into them in the first place: Nocturnal Me, and The Killing Moon is a close second.
i think it’s fair to give it a 10/10, i’m a sucker for Joy Division and The Smiths, this album is great for me
fun album, not really my kind of thing but it had some nice parts.
metal can be good sometimes but for the most part I’m not one to enjoy it.
I’ll give it a 6/10, I probably enjoyed Then She Did the most, I think it had a nice beginning, a cool buildup, and a really fun climax for an ending while still being a lot less fast and violent from the rest of the album.
Of Course was also pretty cool, kinda sounded like a B-side Beatles track.
Classic Girl was fun too, so I guess I just liked the last three songs the most.
Don’t get me wrong I love fast, violent music but usually not when it’s metal, I think the slow-jam/shoegaze-like genre is more fun for me.
This wasn’t really the kind of album I’d listen to just for the sake of sitting down and enjoying however I think these songs make good background music for other things to do.
I could picture myself putting this on a speaker and doing chores or gaming or something.
I might listen to one or two more Jane’s Addiction albums out of curiosity.
aw man, i’m a sucker for the 80’s
really fun album, my favorite song has to be Androgynous, that piano with the vocals were just beautiful to listen to, and the lyrics were really sweet and warmed my heart, the message was based as fuck, like the idea of gender is arbitrary and we should be able to where whatever we want wether it be masculine, feminine or something else. Really nice song :) really ahead of its time.
Sixteen Blue also had some really pretty instrumentals, great song.
I loved the rest of the album too, great hard rock. I’ll give it a 9/10.
good shit, really nice production and fun lyrics.
i’ll give it a 7/10, overall just really cool.
decent album.
not really for me but there were parts of it I enjoyed.
I guess it’s a 6/10
fun album, i’ll give it a 7/10
that’s gotta be the preachiest album I’ve ever heard, but honestly he made plenty of good points.
I really liked Music and Politics, those were cool instrumentals to rap/sing over.
and then Television, The Drug of the Nation was just a straight up classic.
I’ve never been a huge old-school hip-hop fan (which is apparent in my previous reviews)
i’m not too critical on it, it just isn’t really for me. This album was unique and had a lot of personality so that’s why i’m giving it the 7/10.
10/10 - BB is the GOAT
that album fuckin’ delivers
kind of lame,
the whole point of the album, as a singer, was her vocal performance and it didn’t change at all throughout the whole album,
she feels like a one trick pony. she has a nice voice but it’s kinda boring after a few songs.
I’ll give it a 3/10
pop isn’t for me
that album was awesome,
it had a lot of different blues elements I really loved.
9/10
10/10
why didn’t I start listening to these guys sooner?!
this album is FUCKING AWESOME!
definitely gonna check out this bands other stuff.
pretty good
I liked the blues, not the country very much tho
I’d give it a 7/10, maybe worth another listen
9/10
great jazz, no complaints
other than that I would like some more upbeat tracks.
but these slow jams are nice too
pretty good album but not really for me
i can appreciate it contextually, it’s an impressive show for something from the 80s
i don’t know, maybe I should listen to it again, but off a first impression I’ll give it a 6/10
not a big punk fan
4/10
kind of repetitive and boring
pretty lame
some songs were alright but for the most part, really cringey
3/10
better than I was expecting, I had a rough time with the first few songs
sorry, I love Leonard Cohens older stuff but his voice felt really jarring on this album, with some songs it worked really well but with others it was just too awkward
although the more I listened through the album, the more I warmed up to the vocals
what I really loved about it was the composition of these tracks
beautiful, beautiful instrumentation
I think Traveling Light really stood out to me, that was really cool production
Also that String Reprise was really nice
Overall a really great album, while I had trouble with the vocals I think the rest of the album sells it for me - 9/10
fuckin awesome old school rap
no complaints at all, just awesome
10/10
10/10
damn i gotta listen to more of this band
that was a really cool album
I don’t think I have any complaints?
plenty of diversity, beautiful compositions, great vocals, just an all around awesome album 10/10
that was a cool album 8/10
pretty good, I loved how much they messed with time signatures, regularly jumping between a 4/4 and 3/4
I’ll give it a 7/10
pretty great album, some of the skits were a little corny but that music slapped
I’ll give it an 8/10
worst album i’ve ever heard
I would rather get a blowjob from a piranha than listen to this again
the whole thing it just some canadian hoe bitching about her ex boyfriend while making donkey moans and terrible harmonica solos
pretty good
not a big fan of grunge/metal but I really appreciated this
i’ll give it an 8/10, probably won’t listen again but definitely special
10/10
It’s tragic hearing Joy Division without Ian Curtis, but I think Gillian Gilbert was able to move everything to it’s fullest potential. Joy Division always sounded their best when they harnessed synths, I just really wish we could get Ian Curtis’ beautiful vocals and lyricism for New Order.
Despite that, this album is still INCREDIBLE. I love the gritty edge of Joy Division put in a Techno-pop dance style. It’s perfect music to jam to, whether to get hyped up (like Sub-Culture) or to get in a more dark mood (like Elegia)
Again in a perfect world, we would have Ian Curtis on this but of course, it’s tragically impossible so I have to see it for everything else that makes this album amazing. One of my favorite albums.
pretty good
the title track is a classic and the whole album is pretty entertaining
8/10
… it’s eh
101 FM was a cool song, I liked the production for the album
but i’ll die before I call a mf brit a “good rapper”
I have a deep hatred for those wankers that think they can rap
so honestly i’m kind of on chaotic ends in this album, great beats, terrible vocals/rap
I’ll give it a 4/10
dude, what was that?
like it was so whiny, those lyrics sounded like they were written by an edgy 15 year old and everything else about it was so poor in execution
2/10
that was a fun album, I’ll give it an 8/10.
fuck yeah, I love The Zombies
9/10
Really good, I liked this album more than their Fifth Dimension one
I’ll give it an 8/10
great album
the vocals sound a little weird at times but the jazz is just awesome
9/10
eh, it’s okay, 6/10
I’m not a big fan of that country/rock sound that was big in the 90s
although I will give this album credit for being ahead of its time, using one of the most popular genres of the 90s a decade early is impressive
I just don’t like the genre
R.E.M. does have some other cool stuff tho
that album was amazing
10/10
I like Fats Domino more but this album is still great
I really don’t like country, holy shit this album was difficult for me.
I’ll give it a 3/10, the only part of the album I liked was in Fearless Heart at around 1:45 and 3:18, it was a pretty nice 80’s style hook that I appreciated
the rest of the album was lackin tho
8/10
I like the way punk rock sounds from the 70s
It had a surprisingly warm sound, it felt like fun background music you could listen to going about your day
it was a cool album, i liked it
holy shit, it’s been a while since I’ve heard an album where EVERY song slaps like a mother fucker
this is a 12 out of 10, it’s honestly beyond perfect, good fucking golly
9/10, surprisingly great songs
really diverse genres and very fun sounds
great execution all around
10/10, I don’t really know what that was but I loved it
It felt like you got The Talking Heads and somehow made it even more weird
It really was something special
I’m looking forward to listening the rest of their discography
10/10, I love weird prog
that was just such a cool album, I really loved it
i feel kind of conflicted here
I liked the french version more than the english because I could enjoy the vocals and production, for that the french version gets a 6/10
but that was a really cringey message in english
it felt like some kind of left wing circlejerk, like I’m just picturing excited soyjack looking at this album saying
“holy shit! a queer, androgynous woman singing about how stupid god is! slay the patriarchy my queen!”
it was just so lame and cringey hearing these lyrics, I’ll give the overall album a 4/10
10/10, that was a classic
that was a really fun album with some beautiful compositions
overall just a really beautiful experience
I’ll give it an 9/10
that was a pretty cool album, I’ll give it a 7/10
I also listened to Mud Slide Jim and liked that album a little bit more, I’ll give that one an 8/10
overall this dudes pretty cool
10/10 Ray Charles is the GOAT
it had such a fun, warm sound
hearing those songs bring such a calming but happy atmosphere
it was okay
I’ll give it a 6/10, pretty annoying but also pretty well made so idk, kinda conflicted but I’m leaning towards positive feelings
9/10
everyone should hear this album at least once
it’s got a few moments that are a little awkward but for the most part it’s amazing
This album is amazing, Randy Newman has such a talent at writing these beautiful, emotional pieces
that’s probably why disney had him write so many soundtracks
10/10
eh it’s pretty mediocre
I don’t really know why it’s on here
I’ll give it a 5/10, it’s not terrible but it’s really not anything special either
okay this album was actually really good
I would call myself a Coldplay fan (because the fanbase is pretty annoying) but I can say that this album is a 10/10
and I started listening to it being biased against it
every song just performs exactly the way it’s supposed to, it’s really well done
still I don’t think I’ll listen to these songs in my free time, I can still value the work that went into this, creating such a high quality product
groovy
spunky
specfunkular, even
10/10
8/10 pretty cool, daft punk vibes
10/10
such a fun album
no complaints, just some really fun pop
I should listen to at least one or two other albums from her
this is one of those albums that are too good to rate
I can’t tell you how much I love this kind of folksy music
the vocals, the guitar, those nice melodies, it all comes together to create a beautiful, warm atmosphere
it reminds me a lot of Vashti Bunyan’s album Just Another Diamond Day (one of my favorite albums ever)
I would love to find more albums with this kind of sound
Cottage Songs by Naomi Lewis is a pretty nice album, but the genre is a little too different, it still sounds incredible and I love that album, but it could use a little more one on one with her voice and some warm guitar
anyway, this album is just too special for me to give a simple 10/10
I really need more music like this
what a beautiful album,
I’ve been a fan of BoC for a while now and this album always gives me goosebumps when I hear it
it’s such a perfect mix between a loose, dreamy atmosphere and a raw, hard, tactile electronic experience
I don’t know how else to put it, this album is really something special, everybody should listen to this
10/10
10/10
this album is packed with so much personality and attitude, I love it
I barely understood anything they were saying but it doesn’t matter
all I need is some of this awesome boogie-woogie, talking-heads-meets-tarantino-score type music
I knew from the first song this was gonna be an album I’d fall in love with
I usually don’t call myself an indie fan but there’s this specific kind of indie I’m obsessed with. Neutral Milk Hotel, The Antlers, etc.
these bands that have these beautiful, instrumentally diverse, melodic, but lyrically melancholic pieces that I could listen to for hours
if you’re gonna listen to this album, I strongly recommend you read along the lyrics, it really adds to the beauty and atmosphere
this is one of those albums too good to rate, a 10/10 just doesn’t feel good enough
but yes, I really love this specific kind of sound that reminds me of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea or In the Attic of the Universe (both those albums are also too amazing to rate)
just, I can’t even put into words how amazing of an experience it was for me to listen to this
please check this amazing art out
now i’m gonna go check out Tigermilk
better than I expected, I wouldn’t really call myself a fan of this band but this album actually was pretty great, I’ll give it an 8/10, I’ll also give Californication a listen sometime
6/10
not a big punk fun, this was pretty good tho
I mean at the very least it’s impressive an album like this came out in 1986,
so yeah, not bad but not amazing for my tastes
pretty shit album honestly,
only song I liked was Traveler, that song gets an 8/10
the rest of the album is 2/10
6/10 for production
minus 2 for the laziest lyrics i’ve ever heard, you have to be a walking red flag (and a legitimate bad person) to have THAT many exes you need to shit on in every song
minus another 2 for every song sounding the same, oh wow THIS song has trumpets! and THIS song has acoustic guitar, how creative!
and minus another 2 for pure pettiness, I’ve had to listen to each and every one of these songs ad nauseam when this POS album was new
hearing this album put my body into a fight-or-flight response, I still get fucking PTSD flashbacks to that Norm of the North trailer
I would rather eat a literal dick the way Armin Meiwes would, than listen to this god forsaken album one more gd time
8/10 pretty great 80s rock
based and cockpilled
10/10, never knew I’d listen to a song like Ogasm Addict from a band named Buzzcocks
eh, it’s impressive, I guess
I’ll give it a 5/10, certainly not anything I want to listen to again but I can appreciate the effort put into it
holy shit man
why did they have to give me an album so late it their career?
I’d feel like an asshole if I just jumped in that late, so I listened to their five prior albums all in one day
and each and every one of those six albums were beyond incredible, greater than a 10/10, they were all too good to give a simple rating to
and it felt like they kept getting better after each one? but then like listening to the older stuff again felt just as amazing as the late stuff
I couldn’t tell you what my favorite album of the six were, hell I can’t even say what my favorite song from this album was
like Led Zeppelin I & II we’re both pretty incredible hard rock albums, and they both had some really fun blues songs for some spice
and then I think they really stepped up in LZ-III with all these amazing experimental sounds that I couldn’t get enough of
and then they moved it in a very beautiful direction with LZ-IV, it’s still definitely hard rock, but a lot more acoustic, gentle, spiritual and celtic
a very nice laid back album
and then you got Houses of the Holy which is beyond words honestly, like every album is my favorite but I think this one has just the right kind of songs to cater to my specific tastes just a hair above the others
with its beautiful usage of electronic and reggae, it’s something I can’t put into words
and then I listened to Physical Graffiti and like, man, this one was too fucking amazing too, I can’t fucking tell if I like this one the most or not
like I just got so lost in wonder listening to each and every one of these six spectacular albums I really can’t pick a favorite here, they’re all tied for being my favorite Led Zeppelin album
I’m a little tired after listening to six albums in a row but I’m glad I did, that was such an amazing experience
now I gotta listen to Presence, In Through the Out Door, Coda, and their Live albums, plus anything else I might have missed
holy shit seriously listen to all their stuff, it’s too fucking good
that was a pretty great album
no complaints, I just love this kind of music
10/10, planning on listening to their other albums
pretty cool album, I love old-school hip-hop
it does sound a little dated tho, I feel like for a rap album from 2000, he could’ve been doing something a little newer
overall 7/10
pretty cool album, some songs slapped, others were a little slow
Chan Chan, Murmullo and La Bayamesa were some of my favorites
what a fun album,
really weird style but I loved it
10/10
awesome album, beginning to end 10/10
based af
honestly can’t decide what my favorite song is
that was a really, really cool album
I’ve listened to a few Bowie albums but I guess this one slipped past me
it had such cool instrumentals and production
overall 10/10, I look forward to hearing more Bowie
okay don’t get me wrong, I LOOVE prog rock, and this album certainly had some bangers, but most of the songs just kinda sounded like throwaway stuff, like you listen to Cans and Brahms or Five Per Cent for Nothing and you just gotta wonder what the point of those songs are? like obviously every song doesn’t need to be amazing but I think there were a disappointingly high number of throwaway songs
and I’m not saying I hate those kind of songs, I love The Beatles, Revolution 9 and King Crimson, Moonchild, but the point is that on an album full of hard hitting songs, you only have one or two of these weird throwaway songs to reset the mood for what’s next
anyway, I really loved Roundabout (Obviously, who doesn’t?) and Heart of the Sunrise
America and South Side of the Sky were also pretty cool
overall it is a great album, I just had the one critique, 8/10 for me
I’m feeling a little conflicted here
the vocals and lyrics kinda suck but the production is AMAZING, she really has a great taste in producers
overall 6/10
7/10
not a big fan of this genre but I really liked the bluesy rock and roll sound
I Wish I Didn’t Love You So, Black Coffee, Shadowland, and Tears Don’t Care Who Cries Them were some of the songs I liked most
overall a fun album but I don’t think I want to hear any other songs in her discography unless they’re also on this website/book
8/10
pretty good rock but some of the lyrics were a little too sus
incredible album, every song was banger after banger
10/10
such an incredible, surreal jazz album
it can definitely be off putting for those used to easy-listening pure jazz but this is from a guy that perfected that sound originally and wanted to do something more, something weird and wonderful
overall it is absolutely worth a listen if you have 100 minutes to kill, this album makes amazing background music
10/10
hell yeah I love Daft Punk, tho I think Discovery was better, this album is still a solid 8/10
favorite songs are Da Funk and (everyone’s favorite,) Around the World
Nick Cave knows how to deliver, I’ve heard The Boatman’s Call, No More Shall We Part, and now this gem of an album
it was a lot more upbeat than I expected, the other two were kinda slow and sweet
all three of these albums are 10/10 tho
I really love this guy, he has such a sweet sound, I can’t wait to hear more of his stuff
i’ve already talked about this album
it’s so fuckin’ good
I think this is where they were really able to show some of their best stuff
like LZ-I and II were great but I think they really tuned their sound to a new great level with this album, and all the better stuff to come after
this is a 10/10, please check out Led Zeppelin’s discography
10/10
didn’t know acoustic 80s pop like that would sound so cool
it’s got so many cool songs, it sucks that it’s all over shadowed by Come on Eileen
I really liked that
great prog, 8/10
that album was so gosh darn beautiful that I listened to it again immediately after finishing it the first time
definitely one of those albums too good for me to rate
it’s not my FAVORITE album but it’s absolutely in the top five
its got so many diverse songs that hit that sweet spot of different genres I’m a sucker for
Holes reminded me of Beach House
I Collect Coins gave me major Caretaker vibes
and The Funny Bird kinda sounded like Led Zeppelin’s Houses of the Holy
overall just such an incredible album
I’ll try looking into their other stuff if it holds up the same quality
pretty cool, 8/10
kinda wild that people consider this a competitor to Sgt Peppers, when The Beatles were so far ahead of The Rolling stones
granted the rolling stones later stuff is also legendary
what a cool album
10/10 it’s such a cool privilege getting to hear an album like this
just amazing
that was a pretty cool album, I’ll probably need to listen to it again to “get it” but from what I heard, I really liked it 9/10
I listened to Blunted on Reality first in preparation and I thought that was such a cool album - 10/10
favorite song was Vocab, what cool instrumentals for an old school hip hop song
and now I just finished The Score and I think it’s crazy how they managed to make an even better album than before
this is also a banger 10/10
over the tragically short discography of Fugees has some of the best production, verses, and overall execution of any old school rap I’ve ever heard
would highly recommend you hear these two great albums
i’m gonna try to look for any other stuff they’ve made
also a huge plus is that you can hear a woman that can actually rap, and she raps damn good
surprisingly good album, from the title and cover I was expecting something more grungy like Dust by Screaming Trees
but I actually really liked this
nice acoustic, bluesy kind of album
8/10
i wouldn’t really call myself a kanye fan, this album was alright, 7/10
I’m kind of a grinch but this music slaps
I’m a sucker for this sorta old-school pop
9/10
10/10 album full of so many different moods, it can be dark and tense or fun and upbeat
just such a great work of art overall
GREAT prog stuff
I’ve heard Rush’s first three albums now and I feel like they keep improving with each one, the first was just your average prog rock, the second album really stepped up with more beautiful, dynamic sounds, and this third one got even better going all out prog in the best way
10/10, really want to hear their other stuff
pretty good, not a big fan of the genre but I think it’s executed pretty well, the songs are nice and diverse and pretty groovy
7/10
pretty good album, not a huge 2Pac fan but I liked this, 7/10
9/10 great prog, would love to hear more Genesis
so I listened to his first two albums to get ready for this (his third one)
first album was Mellow Gold, punk meets indie, like a pre-Hobo Johnson
10/10
second album took a SHARP turn into blues territory, pretty good 7/10
now this third album goes back to the style of the first one for the most part, I’ll give it a 9/10, really good
not bad, pretty impressive this came out in the 70s, this sounds straight of the 90s
6/10
pretty good album, I wouldn’t call myself a Springsteen fan but this was a really nice listen 8/10
10/10, Louis Prima is the fucking GOAT
this album has so many bangers, still he’s made many other great songs that don’t even show up here like Pennies From Heaven, I Wan’na Be Like You, and What Will Santa Claus Say?
overall just really great music I’d totally recommend
that was a REALLY good album, 10/10
it was a bit of a shock to find out that Gangstas Paradise was actually a cover tho
8/10 really fun album, some parts were pretty proggy, other parts were more just pop stuff
but overall a really fun album, favorite song was probably the Intermission after Chemical World, because it’s always a shock to hear a random album you’ve never heard before and be like ‘oh wait, I know this song’ and of course it’s from Baby Driver
dude Baby Driver has introduced me to some of the coolest songs I’ve ever heard
Edgar Wright sure knows how to make one hell of a playlist
dude this is such a cool album
the whole execution is perfect and every song is a 10/10
like after I finished the last song I sat for like a minute in silence waiting for the next banger of a song to come and it never did, shit was lowkey sad
I restarted that album with no hesitation
and it’s even better the second time
yeah this album is just too good to rate, please listen to this
i’m gonna go listen to the rest of their work now
that was actually surprisingly impressive
I’m not a big fan of indian music (or bollywood movies) but this actually had some really nice production
overall I can overlook the parts of the album I found annoying for the quality of the overall music - 8/10
damn, these guys are so talented
great album 10/10
but was actually really funky, I really enjoyed that
8/10
that was a really cool album, fun old school rock with some proggy elements
10/10
I also really like the Bongo Rock cover
this was a really cool album
I was expecting it to drag considering how long it was but it really felt fresh and engaging the whole time
no complaints, just a great album 10/10
pretty groovy, I don’t think I’d want to listen to it more than once but for what it was it was pretty fun
7/10
that was actually a really sweet, short album
I really liked that, 10/10
I can usually be pretty harsh on this country stuff but it was actually done really well here
great album
pretty fun hard rock
8/10
these people are so talented
I’m not crazy about some of these songs but for the most part it’s really cool - 8/10
10/10
awesome art rock, really good shit
I gotta listen to their other stuff now
pretty fun, a little cheesy but forgivable for the era
overall, it’s groovy - 8/10
more like the basedful dead
10/10
some of the lyrics are kind of stupid but I still think it has a lot of value and heart
damn this was a really cool album
the more I listen to Tom Waits the more I can appreciate his style and the way he grows in his discography
can’t decide what my favorite song is, I’m just gonna give this a 10/10, awesome album, please listen to it
I really love LZ I & II, they both have some great hard rock/blues
but I think they really revealed their true talent on III and everything that came after
not to hate on the first two albums, I give this one a 9/10, but the stuff that comes after this is their best stuff
really cool album, 9/10
I like his style
it sounds familiar tho, I should look him up to see what other stuff I know from him
good shit, it’s like Oneohtrix Point Never meets MGMT meets LCD Soundsystem
10/10 album, I definitely need to look into more of their discography
I really liked that
way more imaginative and diverse than most hard rock albums I’ve heard
definitely a 10/10 for me, really fun album
I haven’t seen any of the Fast and Furious movies but this album feels like it could be the soundtrack for one of them
pretty fun rock, not really my style but still enjoyable nonetheless, biggest problem for me is it clearly lacks originality, most of this stuff has already been done before (and better) by more talented bands - 6/10
grooviest mf album I’ve heard all month
10/10, tragically short tho
amazing album, I’m a huge fan of that vocal harmony stuff, reminds me of Simon & Garfunkel and Yes
while the music itself felt very simple, it has a very likable sound that everyone should check out, I’m giving this a 10/10
that was surprisingly enjoyable, and such a quick listen at only 16 minutes
it also has a really fresh, classic sound for 1980, I think I’ll give it an 8/10
I’ve recently been getting into Bob Dylan’s discography so I think it’s funny I was going to listen to this album anyway
so far this is one of my favorite Bob Dylan albums, don’t get me wrong, I love the folksy stuff he did in his first four albums, there’s just something so magical about him finally incorporating rock and roll into his music
I can’t wait to listen to Highway 61 Revisited, I’ve heard that’s one of his best albums
anyway, this is absolutely a 10/10 album, but I think it’s more enjoyable if you listen to his first four albums first, hearing his sound build and grow as he tries out new stuff before you hear this beautiful rock and roll project
10/10 amazing album, so many of these songs are underrated
10/10 album
did they invent ska? it sure sounds like they did
lame af
2/10, I liked the accordion bits but the whole thing was just so annoying
10/10, Aretha Franklin is the best
favorite track is probably Ain’t No Way
10/10, one of the greatest musicians to ever live, one of the greatest albums you could ever hear
pretty fun 80s rock, 8/10
pretty based, honestly
not a big country fan but there’s some really nice indie stuff in here, 8/10
9/10
frank sinatras a total asshole but this was a really nice album, production is incredible and I want to give full credit to the talented people who actually wrote these songs
I listened to their first album before this one and it blew me away, 10/10 post rock
I think the first song I noticed that I found really phenomenal was Sea Song, the three songs before that were amazing but it was that fourth song that really made me love the album, and everything after that was incredible too
but then I listened to the second album, and I think I liked it even more, it had so many cool songs, that is easily worth a 10/10 for me
but then I noticed they did something really special, THEY DID A COVER OF A FUCKING KING CRIMSON SONG
Moonchild is one of my favorite songs in general, the fact they made a bluesy, post-rock cover of one of my favorite prog rock songs is so fucking cool
idk I’ve always had a soft spot for any media that uses King Crimson, especially in movies like Mandy, Children of Men, and Buffalo ‘66 (although there are MANY other reasons I love that last one)
anyways this a really incredible album for me, if you like post-rock this is definitely worth a listen
I listened to his first album Curtis before this and I really, really loved it, definitely a 10/10
this album switches up the groove a little bit, which makes sense, this is a movie soundtrack, but it’s still really damn amazing
both of these are 10/10s
pretty great, man’s got pipes, but all the songs almost sounded the same, not too much diversity, overall 8/10
but I definitely think he ripped off Poor Me by Fats Domino with his song Can’t Believe You Wanna Leave, it sounds almost the exact same and I’m pretty sure it came out a year after
phenomenal album, every song is so beautiful and moving, hitting in a totally different way
what an incredible way to spend 40 minutes, please listen to this spectacular, 10/10 album
great album, 10/10, instantly recognizable from the first five seconds
favorite song was probably Rinky Dink
it sounded like a Napoleon-Dynamite-Christmas
awesome indie - 10/10
favorite song is probably Blue Ridge Mountains, I’m a sucker for that naturey indie stuff - Vashti Bunyan type stuff
I feel like I don’t have the energy to talk about just how much of an eye-roll this album is
the way she sings is not unique in any way, ukulele hoes have been singing like that for millennias, seriously dude just go on youtube, search ‘[random twenty one pilots song] ukulele cover’ and you’ll find hundreds of bitches who think they can sing, pronouncing stuff the dumbest way you can imagine
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/828397306256031804/944045530722492456/IMG_1357.jpg
and the lyrics, holy shit those lyrics, everything she said was either some kinda dumbass Escher sentence or the most wild take that made me say ‘what the fuck am I actually hearing’
probably the best example was probably
“Forrest Gump had a lot going for him, never without a pussy”
like I don’t even wanna think about what the fuck she was thinking when she wrote that, holy fucking shit
the production was alright half the time, nothing too special but not necessarily bad
like I kinda digged the retro vibe on Prom but then she had to ruin it with “fErin not gwOwin uUuUponan” it’s not cool, nothing about that makes me think, wow she knows how’s to sing, it’s just such a fucking waste of time, how the hell do people like this?
the features weren’t any good either, Travis Scott speaks for himself of course but even Kendrick had to make his voice so goddam annoying, like it sounded more annoying than Chance on Acid Rap somehow, and at least that was a good mixtape
like come on, why even rap that verse if you’re gonna half ass it that much, it sounds like he recorded it on his phone or something
jesus christ I could spend many more paragraphs talking about just how much I hate this shitshow, how I’d rather brush my teeth with super glue and wipe my ass with greasy, hot-off-the-grill pancakes than listen to this joyless, try-hard bullshit, but this album has me too exhausted to spend another another second hating it
how the hell this album made it on this list is beyond me, but I think it gave Taylor Swifts 1984 a run for its money on the shit talk I want to give it
like with they it gave me the rage, the infuriating energy to want to write about every ear screeching second, but like, at least she had the talent to write those songs
SZA couldn’t even produce this, like it’s just so lame and depressing, why write about how dumb this is?
holy fuck, rant over, I’m done, I need to go listen to some Swans or ABBA or something, fuck this album
pretty good, I’m a sucker for 80s rock
8/10
this is definitely a perfect punk album for me, it just hits everything flawlessly
the production is amazing with all the electronic drums and weird samples
Kathleen’s singing and vocals are fucking perfect in every song
the writing is also really cool and can get pretty meta
and with so many weird, amazing songs like the hilariously literal What’s Yr Take on Cassavetes or the groovy, spoken-word-sample Slideshow at Free University
it’s got perfect songs for if you just wanna fuck shit up, like Deceptacon or The the Empty
and it’s got perfect songs for if you just wanna vibe out, like Les and Ray or Eau D’bedroom Dancing
I don’t have a single issue with this perfect, perfect, punk, new wave, feminist masterpiece - this is an 11 out of 10
I gotta check out Kathleen Hanna’s other stuff
9/10, really fun 80s rock
while I really liked their first album, the stuff that came after was undeniably better
still a damn good start for a band tho
I really liked this, really fun production and verses
overall 8/10
awesome album, 10/10
I think I liked it more than Bad Moon Rising, but I don’t know about Evol
overall Sonic Youth has an amazing discography but it’s definitely not for everyone
fuckin slaps, imagine how cool it would be actually getting to be there - 10/10
pretty good album - 8/10
it’s nice the songs don’t last very long because some of them are a little annoying
favorite song is probably The Ugly Vision, it had a nice lofi/grungey vibe, like Neutral Milk Hotel meets Nirvana, I liked it
pretty good hard rock, Aerosmith has a great discography but this definitely isn't their best album, I’d say this is an 8/10
really great rock, i’m not a huge fan of the sitar but he fuckin slaps it hard, the production is genius
I think the message he wrote on the album cover perfectly sums up this super cool project - 10/10
this was actually a really good album, I’ll give it a 9/10
I only really knew George Michael from Careless Whisper and the jokes on Arrested Development so hearing this album was actually a really nice surprise
amazing album, 10/10
you gotta love The Smiths
that was a super cool album 10/10
I don’t know how she’s able to sing The Click Song but that was impressive af
holy shit this is amazing? did she only have two albums?!
I listened to both Frank and Back to Black, and the deluxe editions of both with the bonus content of course everything is a 10/10
super talented artist, gone way too soon, holy shit that’s depressing
oh hell yeah, I was wondering when I would get this album
fuckin love Maggot Brain - 10/10
one of my favorite intros to an album, “Or drown in my own shieet” followed by like the coolest 10 minute guitar solo
beautiful western, classical, alt-rock album - 10/10
his vocal range is also really impressive
pretty good album, kinda cheesy but overall a pretty fun love letter to hip-hop
I thought the end was pretty funny, “byemothafucka”
7/10
pretty good album, I don’t know how many of those songs are actually original but I know a lot of them were covers
still the execution and style was great, I’ll give it an 8/10
10/10 awesome album
my favorite side was probably side 2 where he has you play a game to spot all of the recording/mixing flaws throughout the songs
it was genius because not only were the songs bangers I enjoyed listening to but I felt more invested because I wanted to dig deeper into the sounds
overall super cool album, kinda had Elton John vibes but with more Queen style rock stuff
since I’ve already heard Low-Life, I thought I’d listen to Brotherhood before this album
and Brotherhood was really good, definitely a 10/10, the singer kinda sounded like Pink Guy when he sang but overall awesome album
Technique was kind of a surprise tho, a lot more of the electronic, discotheque stuff
still super good tho, just hits different
10/10
pretty fun album, really liked it - 8/10
great album, I’m always in the mood for some jazz-rock - 10/10
a little corny but overall pretty good, 8/10
it feels like I’ve heard a hundred different Queen songs but the only ones I knew from this was You’re My Best Friend and of course that which must not be named
so it was a pretty pleasant surprise hearing more proggy songs like Death On Two Legs and The Prophet’s Song as well as more Tally Hall vibe songs like Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon or Seaside Rendezvous, though I guess that one’s more Elton John
also ‘39 was a whole-ass surprise, who knew Queen made a motherfucking folk song
it’s reported that at the time this was the most expensive album ever produced and it sure does sound like it, fucking phenomenal - 10/10
I don’t know, shit like this hits some kind of sweet spot for me
like this is some weird shit but I can’t help loving it, 10/10 album
10/10, super cool album
I’m surprised electronic music sounded that good in 1973
I was expecting it to sound a little more simplistic or something but they really made the most out of it
you can hear all sorts of modern production techniques being used throughout the album and I have no idea how they pulled it off
overall just a super impressive album
they pioneered genres that led to some of my favorite artists like Big Black Delta and LCD Soundsystem
the instrumentals are fucking phenomenal, tho I don’t really care for the vocals
feels like i’m in a Ghirardelli commercial with some of these songs
still super impressive that an album like this came out in 1971 - 9/10
I think my favorite LZ album is Houses of the Holy but still it’s really damn hard to beat LZIV
this is definitely a 10/10 album, I love how they kinda moved back into the classic sound after making LZIII
overall super cool album
hell yeah, love Sonic Youth
I think I’ve listened to everything from Confusion Is Sex to Daydream Nation and while some albums are definitely better than others, I feel like there’s always something to appreciate in each one
I’m excited to hear Goo, that looks like a really cool album, and of course I wanna hear their entire discography
and of course EVOL gets a 10/10, some of my favorite songs from the whole discography are in there
better than 1989, but that’s like saying Stalin was better than Hitler
overall, eh, like a 2/10
I thought that song in 5/4, closure, was pretty impressive, it’s hard singing in five
also, as an aphex twin fan, I got kinda excited hearing the drums kick in on long story short, but then she had to once again ruin it with her dumbass vocals
like shit dude, some of these songs actually had pretty decent instrumentals, like dorothea was alright, not great but alright
she just has to ruin any tiny, minuscule amount of good with the most basic-bitch vocals and mind-numbing lyrics, it’s a pain in the ass for me to listen to music like this
also jesus christ, did she write no body, no crime? did she think she was writing something cool there?
gotta be some of the dumbest fucking lyrics I’ve ever heard, just fabricate a made up character doing something mean and then have the biggest overreaction to that made up thing
idk mid at best
guess that’s her whole career, really
pretty good, honestly
better than I thought it was gonna be at least - 8/10
solid af for a debut album
definitely gave off heavy Bob Dylan vibes but with a lot of fast guitar picking which sounded really cool
I think i’ll give this album a 9/10
but my favorite album of theirs is still Brothers In Arms
You can’t put into words how incredible this album is.
The album cover is one of the most iconic album covers in music history, plus people have gone crazy trying to find all the hidden symbolism
This is my favorite SPLHCB cover post, in which someone explains the complex geometry used:
https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/jwwy3u/the_craziest_and_most_insane_beatles_conspiracy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x
Technologically, this album was seemingly impossible for its time
They were using production techniques that hadn’t even been invented yet
oh and culturally, of course
this album forever shaped music, inspiring some of my favorite bands like Pink Floyd and King Crimson
again, words don’t do justice explaining just how amazing and impactful this album is on both a personal and cultural level, I can’t just give it a rating on a 5 star system, it’s far beyond that
and I don’t even think this is my favorite Beatles album, personally, I’m a sucker for the white album
and I would be infuriated if that wasn’t on here
this album really… confused me
because I really hate this kind of metal music, but when I tried to think of what made me hate it, I felt hypocritical since there are other genres I love that have those same qualities
I love hard rock (eg. Helter Skelter and Led Zeppelin)
I love punk/post-punk (I love Le Tigre and I still need to get around to hearing Kathleen Hanna’s other stuff, Sonic Youth is amazing too, I also enjoy GRLwood’s songs but I hate that the singer is an awful person)
I love Industrial (Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor all the way, bro)
and I even enjoy some Grunge here and there (mostly Kurt Cobain’s discography which I don’t listen to often since it’s not really for me but when I do hear it I at least appreciate the hell out of it)
And this is kinda why Swans is probably my favorite band, they have amazing diversity from album to album
they started out as an Industrial Rock band that would shatter your eardrums every chance they could take, then they moved into post-punk and (in my opinion) made the weirdest post-punk for the time, like you got Joy Division that was making the more dark depressing stuff or Talking Heads who loved messing around and breaking the rules and getting kinda weird, but when you listen to Swans’ Children of God, it’s just so far distant and weird from any of the other stuff I’ve heard, it’s amazing to me
anyway, after that they made post-rock
and without spending forever talking about why I love it, their entire discography is just consistently amazing to me and I recommend you check them out if you’re a fan of Industrial, post-punk or post-rock, there’s probably a few albums they have that you’d enjoy
(other super weird bands (that are difficult to label genre-wise) that I enjoy are Xiu Xiu and Kengo Iuchi, but that’s super weird stuff that you’re probably gonna have a hard time enjoying unless you’ve already been down the rabbit hole with other wild stuff)
sorry, back to the album
ughhhhh… I just hate it and I don’t know why
I was even trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and hear their first album before this one and all it did was give me 2 albums to loath today
it just sounds so douchey, I fucking hate every song
my running theory is that it’s about the fanbase, the awful fucking fanbase
like when I listen to this shit all I think of is some fat fuck who’s got his hair grown down to his ass crack, paired with a red bandana and a crusty, cum-stained t-shirt of whatever lame-ass band they need everyone to know they love
they think they’re so tough and cool but they’re one big mac away from a heart attack
like idk, this just sounds like neckbeard music for neckbeards who think they’re all hard and shit
the lyrics sound like they were written by a fourteen year old who watched V for Vendetta (or Fight Club) and got “radicalized”
there’s very little to enjoy about an album like this when it comes to a biased little shit like me, I’m gonna give it a 2/10 but even that feels too generous
I mean fuck dude, I hated this so much I spent half the review talking about bands that I actually enjoy
10/10, great feel-good vibes
also super impressive for 1990
what an unbelievably incredible album
to think he only made three albums before dying at 26, it breaks my heart
he was a truly phenomenal artist, I need to listen to his other work, giving this a 10/10 feels like an understatement to just how amazing this is
not a huge western/country fan, I mean I like it when Bob Dylan does it but this had a less appealing sound to me
still the execution was pretty solid and the production had some diversity - 7/10
super cool album, I’m a sucker for 80s pop like this, Anita Baker, Madonna, Mariya Takeuchi and Miki Matsubara are some of my other favorites - 10/10
aw shit, first Pantera now this
yeah this album really has nothing special about it for me, I fucking hate trash metal
I talk about it more on the Vulgar Display of Power review, shits just ass in my ears, 2/10
awesome album and super impressive for 1975
The Jungle Line sounds like if Tyler, The Creator produced the beat for a Björk song, and again to make a song like that in 1975 is extremely impressive
overall, I love Joni Mitchell’s discography and this album is one of my favorites of hers, 10/10
I’m a big fan of Leonard Cohen’s warm, cozy style and this album stood out to me for using more retro instruments I wouldn’t have expected
but still super cozy sound; like if Nick Cave made the Runescape soundtrack
overall amazing album, 10/10
I listed to Neil Young’s self titled debut before this, and like, I really like Neil Young’s music, but sometimes the way he sings deadass sounds like Carl Wheezer
still I really liked both the debut album and this one
this album does have some songs I didn’t really like but the grand majority of the album slaps and I think it makes up for a mediocre song here and there
overall 9/10, a classic in folk/rock history
such an amazing album, I need to check out this dudes other stuff
big fan of the self-reflective 2010s alternative music (like Nakey Jakeys stuff or twenty one pilots music while they were good, from self titled through vessel; blurry face and everything after kinda sucked, oh and regional at best is my favorite)
overall yeah, this albums based as fuck, consider me a huge fan of this guy, 10/10
10/10, Muddy Waters is the best
I really enjoyed Hard Again when I got that album, and this one doesn’t disappoint either
he just makes blues so much fun (not that the blues need any help, of course)
oh nice, I’ve been going through Bob Dylan’s discography anyway, but it’s nice to give this album another listen
for what it’s worth he did start out very talented but this is only the beginning, 8/10
easily gets 6 stars out of 5
I’m a slut for prog rock
like holy shit dude this album is so good, I’ve been listening to this on loop for the past 6 hours, every song gets better every time I hear it
I wanna hear their other stuff but from what I’ve seen, this album is as good as it gets, still check this album out, iconic as fuck
pretty decent idk, I’m not really into grunge unless it’s Kurt Cobain or whatever but this was pretty well executed, at least part of the time
feels like a 7/10 to me
I’m surprised there are this many Byrds albums on here, but I guess I’ve found them all pretty enjoyable
I mean Sweetheart of the Rodeo was probably the most obnoxious but I think all the ones I’ve heard had something I liked
anyway this gets an 8/10 from me
the songs (I think there were multiple?) that used 5/4 were really impressive and sounded surprisingly good
Damn that was the best 195 minute album I’ve ever heard 10/10
10/10
I’ll listen to samba any day of the week, easily one of my favorite genres
pretty good punk, honestly
it sounded a little generic the first time listening through but after the second listen I picked up on some of the experimentation they did and I think it’s actually pretty damn cool
overall really liked this, 9/10
I though Modern Life Is Rubbish was pretty good but I think I liked this one more
it still felt proggy but with a lot more tasteful instrumentals I think
also Lot 105 and Supa Shoppa made me feel like I was in Napoleon Dynamite which is a massive plus
overall super enjoyable album, I don’t think I have any complaint other than the super corny bri*ish accents
still I think this album deserves a 10/10, I really loved it
pretty groovy
found it to be like an 8/10
not anything above exceptional but still fun and enjoyable
really beautiful shoegaze
a bit too screechy, I get that that’s the point but no matter what volume I put it at, it felt like I either couldn’t hear it or I was hurting my ears
still super beautiful album, 9/10
oh hell yeah, one of the greatest jazz albums ever made
Miles Davis’ the mf GOAT
I heard the whole 2 hour legacy edition of Kind of Blue and it’s so good all the way through - 10/10
kind of bebop at some points but mostly a cool, slow jazz album
I prefer Bitches Brew, but I think it’s great to hear the classic jazz that got him to where he ended up, making incredible psychedelic experiences
10/10, I think I like this one even more than Big Pink, I mean, it’s hard to beat Tears of Rage but the Deluxe Edition of this has a really fun live version so either way it’s a dub
this album kinda feels like a guilty pleasure since I wouldn’t call myself a country fan but Bob Dylan and The Band just hit different, ya know?
10/10
how the fuck do you not like Stevie Wonder? the man has contributed some of the greatest albums on earth to humanity
pretty great punk, honestly - 9/10
Is this progressive samba?
whatever it is it’s fucking glorious - 10/10
I’m not really a fan of thrash metal but I could appreciate the work and talent that went into this - 6/10
it’s pretty cool hearing metal mix with an orchestral symphony, even if I don’t really like Metallica
holy shit, beautiful album
I am obsessed with the diversity these tracks have
It’s like Nick Cave meets Johnny Cash and that last song sounded like Hans Zimmer or something
overall beautiful album - 10/10
a little too angsty for my taste but still really enjoyable regardless - 8/10
this album is too good to rate
Bob Marley has gotta be on of my favorite musicians and listening to the deluxe version of this amazing album should make him one of your favorites too
I actually enjoyed the jamaican versions more than the originals with my favorite probably being No More Trouble (Jamaican Version)
like they really just made a song (an album, really) that slaps as hard as modern hip-hop way back in the early 70’s
oh shit
wayyy too good to rate, holy fuck
the whole discography is absolutely incredible
far from the best Beatles album and its pop sound wasn’t anything new for 1963 but still I’m a huge sucker for this goofy, snazzy music
overall, I think a 9/10 would be fair considering just how gosh darn enjoyable it is
tho obviously everything pre-revolver is pretty much just generic pop music
that was actually surprisingly enjoyable
I’ve been getting a lot of this 90s britpop but it hasn’t yet been bad
9/10
10/10
my man Ray out here makin the best hits of the century
so I’ve heard three of their albums now
Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, and Bossanova
and honestly, I think my favorite was Doolittle
like the others were great but that was most enjoyable
anyway Bossanova was really fun, had some great stuff, it’s probably an 8/10
really good, definitely easier to listen to than Psychocandy but I really love both
I really enjoyed the fuckin shit out of this album - 10/10
pretty good punk, a tad too bri*ish at parts but usually pretty enjoyable, 9/10
god damn I’ve always loved the Talking Heads but I had no idea they started out so strong - 10/10
favorite songs are Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town, The Book I Read, First Week / Last Week…. Carefree, and obviously Psycho Killer
really incredible album all the way through
holy shit that’s fucking good
sorry, last album I heard from them was Aftermath and it was just… eh
I mean Paint it Black is great but both the UK and US were pretty much just blues covers with a good song here and there
and it’s not that I don’t like blues, check my reviews I fucking love it, that album was just kind of lame
but this one, seriously, good golly
The Rolling Stones were late bloomers, really late bloomers but when they actually started doing good shit did they really show just how great they are
honestly, I wasn’t expecting much out of this album but nearly every song blew me away
it was a hard choice for my favorite song but the one that made me stop everything and listen to it a few times on repeat was Ventilator Blues
like it blew my mind how it slapped that fucking hard in the early 70s
anyway, this is a really, really good album
I gotta listen to more Rolling Stones but from what I’ve heard, this album feels like their White Album / Blonde on Blonde
10/10
beautiful album - 10/10
I’m a slut for acid rock
damn dude, Aretha’s got the fuckin bangers
10/10, legend
Green Day’s got better shit than this
It’s not really my genre, idk
5/10
what an awesome album, 9/10
I mean some of these songs fit so perfectly for this performance, they had to be written for this
I don’t know, just a really enjoyable experience
I saw Walk the Line and I think it’s really cool actually getting to hear what actually happened as if you were there, it’s awesome
10/10
it’s been a while since I heard a Nick Cave album, he has so an incredible sense of world building
he really plays to his strengths and creates something phenomenal every time, one of the greatest artists I know and probably one of my new favorite albums
I guess it’s a little bit better than I expected but still pretty shit
fuck Eminem, edgy cunt
5/10
the album starts saying not to try any of the shit he says, then halfway through the album he’s all talking about how you can drown yourself at home, he’s just an asshole who talks about how hard his life is with made up problems
that was a lot better than I was expecting
the diversity here was honestly crazy, several times listening to this, I thought this was a compilation of different artists songs but apparently these all came from one guy
super beautiful album, crazy to think he’s one of the beach boys, this is a 10/10
pretty good, I enjoyed it - 8/10
that was a really great for a rap album
8/10, didn’t like Kanye but at least this album is a lot better than Kanye’s shit
10/10, I’m so glad David Bowie left on such a great album
I mean it’s David Bowie, it can’t be that bad anyway but this album has such amazing songs I think it’s such a great album to leave the world with
all the songs are amazing one way or another but I think my favorite is Girl Loves Me because of just how fucking weird it is
The beat is great and those vocals are just beyond wild, it sounds so cool
Bowie’s such a cool genius who left the world with some of the coolest music ever made
groovy as fuck
also surprisingly warm and wholesome opener song, 9/10
fun album, not really my genre but still had some neat, enjoyable parts, 7/10
Oh fuck yeah, this is one of my favorite albums
Really captures that surreal, dreamy experience
Incredible album - 10/10
10/10, I feel like Joe Pera when I listen to this
really cool
I sure would’ve had fun seeing this live
9/10
Near perfect album
While I disagree with his take on Bob Dylan, the whole rest of this album was fucking flawless
amazing album
fuck Eric Clapton, he’s a piece of shit but a he’s still a talented piece of shit
9/10
dude this is such a great, short album
holy shit, 10/10
That was actually really beautiful, I really loved that
No complaints, just great indie, 10/10
dude so good and like crazy diverse, J can’t believe all these songs are on the same album made by the same band, that’s crazy - 10/10
how could I NOT give this five stars?
Really beautiful ambient music, I want to check out the rest of his Ambient Series
I wouldn’t really call myself an ambient fan, like I don’t really go out of my way to listen to ambient music
But I think it’s really nice to listen to and I appreciate it when I get it
Overall, it’s just very lovely, 9/10
Hell yeah, what’s not to love about the beach boys? - 9/10
weak, edgy bullshit
I kinda liked the rap rock but even that was mid as fuck, rage against the machine is way better
2/10
this is probably my favorite Pixies album
nearly every song goes super hard one way or another, overall - 10/10
I FUCKING LOVE NICK CAGE FJWMILOPDHAGQJVB
Every album I heard from him is a god dang banger
while I did like Prayers on Fire a little more than this one, this is still simply amazing - 10/10
I really do enjoy their first two albums, it really goes to show that even just starting out, they were really damn good
but of course their best material is literally everything after
from No Surprises and Exit Music for a Film, to the flawless perfection that is the whole Kid A album, to the rest of their neat electronic albums
I don’t think they ever had a low point in their career
despite being diverse as fuck, it’s all consistently enjoyable
I think that’s why I like Swans, King Crimson, etc.
Radiohead is right there with them as one of my favorite bands
10/10
god dammit why does Coldplay need to keep surprising me, fuck, this is actually good
just like a rush of blood, I didn’t think I would like this but I am actually very happy and surprised - this is a 9/10 for me
I still stick by my belief that every other coldplay album is lame, my mind was changed on their first two so I listened to their third, X&Y, it was just so boring
like maybe i’m crazy but the difference between A Rush of Blood and X&Y is like night and day (except reverse)
they started out so good and in that third album, they just sound like a hollow remake of themselves, the songs all sound the same, the drop/hook is always predictable and boring, I swear there’s just something missing from it
who knows, maybe if I come across another coldplay album on this site, I will be proved wrong but right now I still think only their first two are good
idk if I’d call myself a Springsteen fan but I’ve never heard a Springsteen album I didn’t like
as far as I’m aware, I have nothing against this, just all around amazing
10/10
pretty good, had some enjoyable parts but far from perfect
8/10
fuckin awesome
I mean, I’m not surprised, it’s easy for this genre to impress me
10/10
fucking amazing electronic
I love Kraftwerk
favorite song is probably Showroom Dummies, but the whole album’s great - 10/10
super enjoyable experience
I listened to the 30th anniversary super deluxe edition and had a lot of fun hearing all the different takes and demos
hell, I think I liked some of those demos more than the original songs
as well as the bonus tracks like Stop! And Make Your Mind Up just had such a fun, fresh sound
honestly a lot of these songs I thought had the same quality and charm as Take on Me and I'm surprised that so many of these songs are so overwhelming buried by the song that made them a one-hit-wonder
overall, 10/10, super enjoyable, check out the 30th anniversary edition, just a great album
really good
I liked Vespertine more but this was still really fun and experimental
I think there were a lot more vocally oriented tracks, a cappella and whatnot
but the instrumentals were crazy too
it was awesome hearing just how heavy some of those songs hit
amazing experience- 10/10
really interesting new-wave hard-rock
had a lot of really great stuff in there
9/10
I listened to their self titled debut and HOLY SHIT I feel like I fucking transcended
This album was a little bit different but still incredible and I love it just as much
both these amazing albums are a 10/10
I don’t care much for the artwork, it feels like all their albums are just trying to bring in a horny audience
and that’s why I went in with low expectations, but Jesus Christ they fucking sounded so much better than I ever could’ve imagined
amazing, 10/10
super catchy and impressive for its time
oh shit! I thought this came out in like the early 2000s like “huh, this is a pretty good alternative album”
blows my fucking mind this is from 1989
anyway, beautiful album
a bit long, it’s got some lengthy slow-jams but I’m all for that, 10/10
I actually enjoyed that a lot more than I thought I would
I guess the execution was a lot better than most country I’ve heard
8/10
10/10 - really good new-wave
I can't decide what my favorite song is, probably the one that's everybody's favorite: Just What I Needed
anyway, just an all-around really great album
honestly don't have any complaints, can't wait to hear their other stuff, hope it holds up to this
aww man, I fucking hate brit rap
but you know what? this was way better than I was expecting
I mean still kinda lame, but really good for a wanker, better than eminem to say the least
I like the experimentation with unique flows and time signatures and the story telling was pretty fun for a normal day in britain
8/10
BRUH, mid as fuck
the only thing impressive about this album is that his career didn’t end after this
like shit, this dude’s got no talent, he didn’t play any instruments, he didn’t write any songs, all he can do is sing with his mediocre voice, that’s all he has to show off
like yeah, Oasis has similar vocal quality, but they’re a whole-ass band that can write actually good songs
the quality is so mediocre on this and the only thing he can do is sing, it’s just embarrassing listening to this
and the fact that the working title for this album was “The Show-Off Must Go On” makes this clusterfuck even more laughable
I’m giving this a 2/10, and that feels generous
I get why people hate on Joni Mitchell but I still fucking love her music
it’s interesting hearing her discography because it just sounds like a normal Bjork
or I guess Bjork is just Joni Mitchell with an Icelandic accent, and a lot more experimental oddities
I’m not making fun of either artist btw, huge fans of both
anyway this album was obviously amazing - 10/10
super good, can’t tell what my favorite song was, some time between Star, Trainspotting, or Long Life
yeah just all around 10/10
idk, it’s okay I guess
WAAAYYY too derivative of U2, imo but still pretty good
I guess it’s a 7/10 for me
pretty good, I liked it
I think I liked it a little more than the other Missy Elliot album I got
8/10
dude I fuckin love Lauryn Hill, easily one of my top five favorite rappers
the whole album slaps - 10/10
why the fuck is this so avant? 💀
last Madonna album I heard was Like A Prayer, why is this so different?
this sounds like if Bjork focused on making mid dance music
idk, it’s not bad, but for my tastes it’s kinda boring - 6/10
god damn this fucks so hard
can’t believe this came out in 1994
nearly every song is such a banger, I can’t believe I like this so much but here I am - 10/10, at time a little repetitive but not too bad
oh fuck yeah, love Stephen Stills (as well as the rest of CSNY)
this was really fun, easy 10/10
some of the country stuff was a little boring but it’s easy to get back into it
really, really well done album
it really feels like it made the most out of the blues genre
there’s so much creativity and diversity, I love it - 10/10
pretty good, not really my genre but I can still appreciate the work that went into it, 7/10
holy shit, every song is a 10/10
honestly, this album is too good for this 5 star scale, jesus christ, I love this
tight as fuck - 9/10
loved the diversity of the instrumentals
man, i’m sorry, this is ass
the only song I liked was Peephole,
and I didn’t like it that much, it just reminded me of Mr Bungle which is easily my favorite metal band
I just feel like these guys don’t offer anything other than plain metal
like, Mr Bungle and Rage Against the Machine are great because they offer a lot of diversity and the other genres make the metal interesting
this is just boring fucking metal
2/10
that was actually a really beautiful listen
super enjoyable - 10/10
pretty good, I like OutKast
8/10
really good post-punk
I enjoyed the shit out of it, 9/10
I actually really enjoyed
sure, it was really awkward and even a little annoying but they had some really cool stuff in there
and I loved those interesting time signatures they did on tracks 7 and 8
9/10
I will fuckin fight anyone who doesn’t give this five stars
perfect album in every way
I really loved that production
all around really enjoyable - 10/10
10/10
what a beautiful end to his discography
I especially love that the last song was a cover of We’ll Meet Again
beautiful stuff
10/10
I love their older stuff but I’m so glad they moved in this direction
OK Computer is great but Kid A moved the band into a sound I enjoy a lot more
10/10 album
I could get into every little thing I love about this album but none of it would even compare to the 33 minutes it would take you to actually just listen to it
8/10
there was some fun stuff in there
not good enough to give it five stars but I still enjoyed it
too european, idk
I don’t hate that irish/celtic stuff, it just sounds like a gimmick to me
like some kinda bit that gets annoying after a little bit
and fuck bro, I’m part irish, it’s still kind of annoying
still mostly enjoyable
WAAY better than Bad
nearly every song was great, even the slow-jams that I’m not a big fan of still hit really well
favorite slow-jam was probably The Lady In My Life
but yeah really great album - 10/10
amazing album
it’s a trip hearing early Leonard Cohen, back when his voice was higher and he pretty much sounded identical to Nick Cave
the production was a lot nicer than his first album but I think the quality of the songs are pretty much just as amazing
definitely a 10/10 for me
those four songs were some of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard in my life
despite how long the songs were, I never felt bored of them, even the last song with that massive and simple intro was still super engaging the whole time
this album is too good to rate
10/10
I’m really glad I’m going through their discography
every one of their albums just blows me away
really nice album
hard to think of any complaints other than it being a bit simplistic and repetitive at times
still, I really enjoyed it - 9/10
so I listened to his first three albums and
Scott: fucking amazing - 10/10
Looking Back With: Super fun, loved how he sounded like Judy Garland the whole time (if that was him singing, idk) - 10/10
Scott 2: I don’t know about this one, still really good but it had less creativity
I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Like if Nick Cave wanted to make a Frank Sinatra type album, 9/10
I actually enjoyed that way more than I though I would
It’s so easy for metal to be so generic and repetitive and while this album started out like that for me, by the end it definitely won me over with a lot more creative songs
I think my favorite song was Orion, I really digged that 3/4 groove, reminded me of Pink Floyd
and yeah the latter half of the album was a lot more likable to me, it felt more creative and experimental
in the AC/DC vs Metallica argument, I’m always gonna pick AC/DC but still, Metallica has some neat stuff I can appreciate
9/10
holy SHIT! fuckin A!
10/10, man
this is far out!
I actually really enjoyed this
too british at parts but I still loved it nonetheless
10/10
fuckin great album - 10/10
it’s not for everyone but I love it
10/10
really, really beautiful
I’ve enjoyed Willie Nelson since I was a little kid, listening to K-Rose on GTA SA
this whole album is just so goshdarn lovely
I wanted to like this but it was just really rough
I though New Intro sounded kinda nice
and I also love the multiple uses of 5/4 in the album
but overall it was just kinda mid
5/10
10/10
even when some of the songs weren’t really my style, it still sounded great the whole time
favorite song is Something In The Way, though all the youtube comments were saying it was in the new batman movie which kinda sucks
like dude, I just really loved the way that awesome double bass (cello?) worked with everything else
I don’t wanna look like a god damn Robert Pattinson stan
whatever, regardless, this album is fucking incredible
10/10
fucking LOVED the diversity
it was so fresh and fun the whole time
some parts were definitely a little too experimental for some people but I loved every second
I’m definitely disappointed by how many people gave this a negative review
why you gotta do this banger of an album like that?
I think this album speaks for itself
fucking incredible, absolutely no complaints
10/10
fucking awesome album
from what I’ve been hearing from his earlier and later discography, I feel like this album is Prince’s peak
whether it’s his best or not, this is still definitely a 10/10 for me
yeah I’m with Heisenberg on this
in terms of pure musicianship, I’d put them up against any current band you can name
this is too good for the five star scale, but somehow I think I like their second and third albums even more
but all of these are just beyond incredible
sorry I gave Pretzel Logic a measly 9/10 when I started doing this website, every Steely Dan album I’ve ever heard is too good for this five star scale
Pretty good, there’s a lot to like here
favorite song was probably Midnight, it had a pretty nice, industrial beat
even when parts of the album got corny, I was still able to appreciate it
it’s a 9/10 for me
10/10
from the album cover, I was expecting something new-wave but was pleasantly surprised to hear a really awesome, progressive, electronic hip-hop album
honestly, those beats slapped like a mother fucker
all around fantastic
hell yeah, man
fuckin amazing - 10/10
she just has such a beautiful, powerful voice
I love it
holy shit, this is like if Abba made shoegaze
only thing I hate about this album is how fucking short it is, jesus christ I had to replay this like six god damn times in a row it’s so good
too good for the five star scale
oh nice, Seven Nation Army: The Album
but seriously, it sucks how overshadowed this album is, like yeah SNA is a great track but so is nearly the whole tracklist
this is a 10/10 for me
can’t decide what my favorite song is, so many to choose
man, I tried to like this but it just doesn’t work for me
I’m sure all the fuckin kendrick stans are gonna come after me
this is like a 5/10 imo
I did like TPAB quite a bit more tho, that’s probably like a 7/10
I’m not really a fan of Kendrick Lamar, sorry
10/10
super fun
no complaints
trying to figure out who my favorite old-school hip-hop group is
hearing A Tribe Called Quest’s first three album has made me think it’s probably these guys
this album (along with the other two I listened to) is easily a 10/10
fuckin amazing
that’s funny I got this album today of all days,
I just saw Harold and Maude coincidentally
great movie, great album - 10/10
I don’t know
it’s fun but kinda dumb
7/10
I’m a simple man
I hear prog-rock, I give five stars
that was actually pretty good
not exactly my genre but still enjoyable
7/10
10/10
This might just be the best jazz album I’ve ever heard
Dave Brubeck really did a lot for jazz and I love hearing albums like this where he can casually show off how much of a genius he is
heard the two-hour deluxe edition
it blew my mind how great those performances were - 10/10
pretty fun
didn’t really sound too special imo, all EDM kinda sounds the same to me
but still, it was a good listen - 8/10
there were a few songs there I really liked but for the most part it wasn’t too special
7/10
what a beautiful album
I listened to the full 2.5hr deluxe edition and loved every second
just all around amazing - 10/10
it’s alright,
I think i’m being generous giving it a 7/10
I think it’s impressive how they were able to write songs that sound like one long, continuous chorus and not have it sound repetitive
but yeah, in general, not the best
9/10, enjoyed the hell out of this
10/10
LOVE how experimental it is compared to their other projects
Nevermind is still my favorite but this is a close second
it’s alright
I guess I feel like Moby is second to most the other guys
Fatboy Slim’s better
Daft Punk is way better
Aphex Twin is fucking miles ahead
like, Moby isn’t bad it’s just not really that amazing
still, the album was fun and I enjoyed it
7/10
sorry my last review of Stevie Wonder (Fulfillingness’ First Finale) was pretty cringey
I was fucking tired and while I really do love that album, I didn’t know how to put that love into words so what I said didn’t really make sense
anyway, when I got this album, I listened to it a good 4-5 times in a row
it’s criminally short but at least the songs have so much layer to them that upon each re-listen, I found myself noticing more and more genius subtleties behind the production
anyway, I don’t know what else to say
the Stevie Wonder trilogy (from this album to Songs in the Key of Life) is fucking incredible :)
10/10
David Bowie’s GOATED
my man straight up slays every album lol
8/10
pretty fun, but a bit boring
10/10
One of the best modern rock bands
6/10 - painfully mid
I feel like Iron Maiden has a lot of the same pompous, show-off charisma that Jethro Tull has
but whereas Jethro Tull is an incredibly talented prog-rock band that actually has something to show with the way they act, Iron Maiden doesn’t
they act all loud and engaging and yet have nothing to show for it
I don’t know, maybe I’m being too judgy,
I enjoyed their first album, but this one is a bit of an eye-roll for me
10/10
super nice, proggy stuff
love it
bro I’m laughing my fucking ass off 😭
whoever is running this website is a legend for giving me this album on 9/9/22
anyway, of course this album is fucking perfect - too good for the five star scale even
oh nice, that one-hit-wonder band
this album was really good,
I’m not too picky when it comes to this genre
solid 9/10
not as good as Imperial Bedroom imo but still pretty fuckin great
9/10
really good
obviously I liked Funeral more but this is still pretty great
9/10
oh nice! I love The Fall
I was really in the mood for an album like this, I’m glad I got this today
and of course the album is great, a bit weird but that’s what I love about it - 10/10
the more I listen to this bands stuff, the more amazing it all sounds
no complaints - easily a 10/10
10/10 - based as fuck
I don’t even care that this album came out 20 years later than it should have, it still sounds amazing
it’s like if Stevie Wonder made a Thundercat album
perfection🤌
solid 7/10
not amazing, and those lyrics regularly made me roll my eyes
but the production is actually pretty good
mostly enjoyable with a few awkward quirks
I can really admire the talent that went into this
this must have been a difficult album to make
but it’s not really my style - 7/10
10/10
based and redpilled
10/10
glad i’ve been getting more new-wave recently
I can never get enough of this genre
10/10
same as what I said before about Steely Dan when I quoted walter white lol
seriously, one of my favorite bands
hell yeah, I loved that more than I was expecting to
(obviously,) the only song I knew beforehand was Paper Planes so I was just expecting a fairly simple hip-hop/pop album
but it’s so much more experimental than that, which I think is awesome!
yeah I really loved it, no complaints
10/10
hell yeah, Leonard Cohen is GOATED
10/10
I really enjoyed that
I don’t know if it was just me tho but that mixing sucked
I listened to it on Apple Music and I could barely hear the songs, so weird
but yeah, the songs themselves were pretty cool, and I LOVED the weird time signatures they used
I couldn’t pick up all of them, but I’m pretty sure I Hair is 6/4? and Water is a 10/8?
I probably got those wrong but I still appreciate the songs nonetheless
favorite track was probably Plants and Rags, that whole Velvet-Underground-if-they-were-90’s type shit was just 🤌
yeah, definitely a 10/10, I just wished they made like a 2022 Remaster or something to fix how it sounds
still, I enjoyed the hell out of that
dude that was actually really cool
shit man, I loved every song
and listening to it the second time, you can really appreciate the layers of everything, catchy melodies and whatnot
it’s also funny just how clearly influential Scott Walker was for this album at least
yeah I really enjoyed the fuck out of that
10/10
okay so, I honestly REALLY love Dolly Parton
she’s a gem and a half, just an incredible person in general, I really do love her
but her music just isn’t really for me
I love the more western side of music like Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson but I’m having a harder time with country stuff
I can still appreciate the effort that went into it, and hey, some of it actually sounded pretty great
in my ears, this album sounds like an 8/10 but Dolly Parton herself is far greater than such ratings :)
oh hell yeah
that his has been one of my favorite albums for a while
I’m glad I got it again
just all-around weird and perfect
10/10
relentlessly fun album
every track felt so engaging
10/10
pretty good
I liked the british-style punk songs in this album more than the metal songs but still, mostly enjoyable album
7/10
crazy good alternative album
just a 10/10 for creativity alone
actually amazing
good shit
I think the title track surpasses the rest of the album in quality (unlike say, Elephant by The White Stripes where there are plenty of songs I found to be just as good as Seven Nation Army)
but still, extremely enjoyable album
10/10
I liked it
sounded like a dude wanted to make the Hotline Miami soundtrack in the style of Aphex Twin
the vocals were consistently annoying but I really liked the production
except for the one song that used the marimba
I can’t hear the marimba without thinking of that shitty stock music every documentary uses
solid 7/10
8/10
I liked it, it was nice
but Neil Young’s got way better stuff imo
10/10
HOLY SHIT THAT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!
8/10
really liked it
not EXACTLY my style but still super enjoyable nonetheless
and Leather was a FUCKING BANGER, god damn!
yeah pretty fun!
why does South American music fuck so hard?
this stuff’s amazing!
10/10
what a neat album!
nice and weird with that quick-ass piano going all over the place!
super fun - 10/10
the quality was definitely there
some parts were a bit cringey but I consistently enjoyed the grand majority of it
9/10
what is this? prog metal?
it sounds pretty cool
I don’t like metal but I love bands that make the most out of the genre, Mr. Bungle is probably the best example
anyway, this was really enjoyable
I’d say it’s a solid 8/10
10/10
I love the way George Michael makes everything sound so fun and engaging
a very talented soul :)
10/10 - super fun
I love how much energy it had for a studio recording
every single song blew my fucking mind, holy shit
perfect album - 10/10
damn dude, I didn’t realize how much of a legend Marvin Gaye was
10/10 - the deluxe edition is awesome
pretty fun
I think the second half of the album really improved from the first
but I still liked most of it anyway
8/10
really good - 9/10
loved the part where (unless I heard it wrong,) the audience is yelling for an encore and the dude is yelling “NO!” lol
10/10
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong going through Bowie’s discography non-chronologically
I just listen the way the website has me listen
but seriously, it’s all amazing
I truly love every album I’ve heard from him, it’s all so good
and it’s kinda cool hearing it out of order
jumping form older music to newer music
anyway, yeah, Bowie’s great
can’t wait to hear more!
8/10
really good
but it sounded exactly like Dolly Parton to me and I literally couldn’t tell the difference
still, really liked it for the most part
damn dude - 10/10
huge fan of that whole album
it’s hard to pick my favorite song,
I think I’d either go with Autopsy (I’m a slut for 5/4),
or A Sailor’s Life (what a long, crazy, and absolutely beautiful track!)
yeah just an amazing album, love it
9/10
super fun
I just think Van Morrison’s voice gets a little annoying after a while
but yeah the music was great!
super cool album
like a non-stop wave on unique styles all coming together in really neat ways
definitely one of the best alternative albums I’ve heard
10/10
8/10
fun album but I wish the instruments were more diverse
a lot of those songs were basically just a drum solo going on for a long time
I get that that’s their culture and their music
I’m not hating on it, but they have guitar and other stuff and it sounded really cool, I think they should’ve used it more
aight I’ll give credit where credit is due
I’m not a huge fan of old school rap but this is a damn good album
the only old school rap I really like is A Tribe Called Quest and Lauryn Hill
but still, this was amazing too
I guess it’s a 10/10, I don’t really know what to complain about, it was just good
favorite song was probably Represent
I talked about this before when I reviewed Roxy Music’s other album
this is just a really incredible experience
every song hits hard as fuck
10/10
9/10
I’m a fan of indie and hard rock
this was a nice fun album
almost sounded like a pre-90s grunge
10/10
loved the other LCD Soundsystem albums I’ve heard
he’s a very talented guy 👍
9/10
there’s some really, really good moments here
I did get a little bored with the pop but I really loved it for the most part
10/10
shout out to swing jazz
easily one of my top five favorite genders
9/10
I don’t understand what he’s saying, but who needs to when the vibes are this good 😎
10/10
I’ve heard this before but it’s still amazing
probably one of my favorite albums of the year
one of my favorite old-school hip-hop albums
and I think it’s safe to say A Tribe Called Quest is my favorite old-school rap group (Lauryn Hill is my favorite old-school solo rapper)
just an amazing album
so much to appreciate here
too good to rate
9/10
super fun album
catchy melodies, good vibes
9/10
good vibes, love reggae
the mixing on some of these songs were a bit weird but idc, still sounds great
so it’s like Taylor Swift but even MORE country?
not that great, pretty boring imo
feeling a strong 3/10 from this album but I’ll round it up to a 4/10 simply because this isn’t Taylor Swift
I don’t know what to say
it’s just a perfect album - 10/10
9/10 - really damn good
I heard her first three albums so far, I think her style improves with each album
and I just really love the way this second one sounds
a few of the songs are a bit boring and not really my style but I really loved most of it
especially that interpretation of Clare De Lune, so cool!
8/10
pretty good, not my favorite tho
of this type of genre of music, I prefer the bigger guys like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Anita Baker
still this is pretty fun and I do appreciate it
8/10
there were some pretty good moments here but nothing amazing
feels like france had a surplus of electronic artists in the 80s lol
while a lot of them were actually super talented, (mainly Daft Punk, who were geniuses at sampling/production) a lot of them are just kinda… fun, and not much else
I’m not saying it’s bad, it’s fun but that’s all this album has
it doesn’t sound very creative, like it’s reinventing anything
still pretty cool
9/10
always love hearing a Frank Zappa album
don’t get me wrong, Sgt. Peppers is one of my favorite albums but it’s so much fun hearing these guys parody it
9/10
there is some really good rock here
but I had no idea this album had THAT song and it hit me like a ton of bricks when that chorus came in
outside of that song, this is a great album
10/10
awesome indie, good vibes
really fun 80s rock - 9/10
10/10
wouldn’t call myself an alternative fan but then again, I love nearly every alternative album I hear so idk
beautiful, bleak
favorite track is probably State Trooper but the whole album is bangin
10/10
super fun - 9/10
maybe this should’ve come out 20 years earlier but I’m not complaining
good vibes
7/10
pretty good idk
but bro wtf was Beth lmao
the song sounded so stupid coming from a band/album like this so I looked up to see if these guys made a music video and I’m so glad they did because it’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen haha
yeah idk, again it’s pretty good but those slow songs are really cringe
10/10
haven’t heard any of the Beastie Boys later stuff but their first two albums are bangin 🔥
10/10
one of my favorite punk albums
while I love their first album, they definitely made a huge improvement with this one
I don’t know how many of Cream’s albums are on this list
considering they only have four, at least one or two more of them should be here
anyway, this album is an easy 10/10, no complaints whatsoever
my favorite album is Wheels of Fire, but their entire (depressingly short) discography is awesome
such a fun, awesome, creative take on punk
might be a bit repetitive and times but I loved every second
10/10
10/10
Elvis Costello is the best
10/10
I’ve heard one of Brian Eno’s albums before but I had no idea he’s made more than just awesome ambient
all the cool prog and electronic is so nice
I mean come on, the man worked with Robert Fripp! I have to love him!
anyway, I obviously love this album
I see no reason to give this anything other than a 10/10
I’ve been a huge fan of Santana’s self-titled debut for a long time
but this is the first I’ve heard any other album of theirs
I guess it makes sense to listen to their second album next
anyway, sounds just as amazing as their first
maybe not as many spectacular moments but still mostly incredible
10/10
huh
never listed to any pre-disco Bee Gees before
pretty interesting, I guess
they kinda just sound like Beatles wannabes
there’s some really good stuff here but nothing that stood out as too spectacular
solid 8/10 to me
AMAZING album
it was just so awesome from beginning to end
10/10
super sweet album
said what happened to Jeff, as well as his father :(
anyway, the album was really beautiful, I enjoyed nearly every song
I wasn’t a fan of Eternal Life, it’s just too grungy, 90’s metal for me
but yeah beyond that, wonderful album
solid 9/10
10/10
insanely fun 70’s rock
the singers voice tends to feel a bit repetitive at times but it still has great vibes the whole time
it’s hard to choose, but I think I’d have to say my favorite jazz musician is Miles Davis
from Kind of Blue to Bitches Brew, there’s just no beating a discography like that
always inventive, always mature, Miles Davis pioneered so much and did it the best
this album, like every other one I’ve heard from him is a 10/10
6/10
sorry, irish music is just the most annoying thing ever
I can appreciate the musicianship, and I heard the bands political beliefs are based but I can’t stand stuff that sounds like:
🍀Hideh-tideh, ohda la-dee, doh-tahdi 🇮🇪
idk, drives me insane
10/10
this album has NO RIGHT to slap this hard
it honestly hits so hard for an album from early 1999
it’s so progressive and modern by todays standards, I swear they are using technology that didn’t exist yet
crazy
I can’t decide a favorite track, the whole album had me going 😤
just straight heat
9/10
some really, really good stuff here
not enough for a full 10, but still definitely a great album
amazing album
loved every second
10/10
8/10
fun, but not amazing
10/10
I grew up with a couple of these songs since my mom has been a fan since this album first came out
maybe my nostalgia had me give this album too high of a rating, but I still think this album sounds fantastic years later
also I’m a huge fan of psychedelic electronic music and the second half of this album really delivers that
the first half is just iconic pop, still amazing tho
7/10
it’s got a fun sound but it’s really kinda fucking cringe
10/10
this album has nearly everything I’m a total sucker for
complete perfection from beginning to end
10/10
super fun punk album
great vibes
nice! I’ve already loved this album long before it got generated for me, but it’s nice to give it another listen
yeah, every song is amazing
I don’t know what else to say haha
just a perfect, 10/10 album
and Heart of Glass is one of my all time favorite songs
mostly because it has that one section played in 7/4 lmao
10/10
I wouldn’t call myself a huge fan of old school hip hop, but every now and then, there’s a group that really blows me away
Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, and now Arrested Development
there’s some real top tier talent here and it is executed phenomenally
10/10
that was exceptionally beautiful pop/jazz
favorite track was probably I’ve Got To See You Again for that sweet-ass fiddle alone
7/10
pretty fun electronic album
8/10
nothing spectacular but that’s still a super fun reggae album
10/10
I listened to there first three albums and loved their third (this one) the most
but all were a 10/10
super fun electronic/psych-roch
incredible rock album
really special stuff
10/10
I feel like I don’t really get this album
like there’s something to “get” that I’m missing
it’s a fun album but I was kinda confused by why it sounds the weird way it does, idk
might need some context to understand this
7/10
definitely not David Bowie’s best album
but that just goes to show how talented Bowie is
since this album is definitely a 10/10 for me
10/10
one of my favorite rap albums
the production is so goshdarn cool
7/10
fun country music but nothing special
makes me wanna go fishing from the back of a pickup truck or some shit haha
7/10
there’s some good stuff here but there were also plenty of songs that sounded comically annoying
I feel like they peaked with Master of Puppets, this just doesn’t sit right with me
10/10 - woeful as fuck
makes we wanna get a trad wife and be emotionally absent to her
10/10
fuck it, I love Paul Simon, even with all the weird shit he does down the road after this album, he’s still a very talented musician who makes amazing music
I do prefer the stuff he made with Garfunkel tho
8/10
it’s actually pretty fun, I’m a really big fan of all the electronic techniques he uses
but the 90s folksy stuff is a tad annoying, and when I found out this was released on Dave Matthews label, it makes sense
10/10
kinda sounds like it’s ripping off the Talking Heads (came out like a year after TH ’77) but whether or not it is, it still sounds really damn good and super fun
I will take post-punk any day
8/10
pretty solid, a tad annoying, but also pretty cool and I dig the satirical aspects
I really tried to like this but I feel like the genre and aesthetics just really aren’t for me
still some of these tracks had surprisingly impressive production and Harris’ voice really shines on many of these songs
definitely not a bad album but not really for me
OH MY GOD
yesterday I decided to start listening to Fiona Apple because why not?
I heard her album Extraordinary Machine which buh-lew my fucking mind
after I heard it, I was telling my friend about how much I loved it and he said I should listen to her new album Fetch The Bolt Cutters
this morning, I generated my new album and somehow I got this
I probably have another 700 albums left on this thing and the fact I got this out of any possible album is just fucking crazy
anyway, I really can’t put into words how amazing both of the albums I’ve heard from her are
they’re just so amazing in literally every field of musicianship
this album is too good to rate
few things make me happier than a really, really good alternative album - 10/10
10/10
no words other than that this is one of my all-time favorite albums
9/10
simple, but that’s the way fun, punky brit-pop goes
7/10
it’s fun, but metal isn’t particularly my cup of tea
8/10
some of those lyrics were a little rapey but also Buddy Holly is the GOAT
my man was down bad lmao
whole album is just Eric Clapton wanting to fuck George Harrison’s wife
still, despite the subject matter, this is a shockingly beautiful album
actually, I guess it isn’t too surprising
Clapton is Clapton; he’s a complete asshole irl, but he’s a damn talented one
10/10
10/10
extraordinarily beautiful and consistently enjoyable
straight heat 🔥
set my ears on fire from the first ten seconds
10/10
what a hilarious album!
just some horny brit with a cockney accent going through a variety of diverse genres
what a darn fun experience!
9/10
sounded pretty fun on the first listen but I wanted to give it a second one just to be sure
and it was really so much better once I was adjusted to it
such a fun, weird, experimental album
I get why a lot of people don’t care for it, but I thought it sounded really neat
9/10
really fun! good vibes
I doubt I’d ever give this a second listen but it’s certainly fun enough to hear once
8/10
10/10
wow, so glad I’m listening to more of Can’s stuff
they’re an extremely talented band
9/10 - really loved this
there’s some really great disco stuff here
10/10
Depeche Mode is based as fuck
8/10
there’s some really good stuff here but it starts to feel a bit repetitive considering this album is 2 hours
I would definitely consider myself a fan of DnB but I prefer more modern examples of the genre like sewerslvt
I actually kinda like this? what the hell?
it’s definitely not my genre, but once you get past the obnoxious metal tropes, it’s a surprisingly enjoyable and creative album
I’ll still always prefer bands like Rage Against the Machine or Mr Bungle over this stuff, but honestly, this album ain’t bad at all
7/10
undeniably enjoyable, but definitely a bit weaker than a lot of Costello’s other work -8/10
9/10
one of the most iconic rock albums of all time, and one I genuinely love and appreciate
cute 80s adult contemporary album
it’s basically just 80s pop with a country twist
some of the songs felt pretty sexist (both misogyny and misandry) but yeah still fun
7/10
9/10
really love a good punk album, and this was a good punk album 👍
I have never heard a single Billy Joel song I didn’t like
even when he sings about beating off on a song like Captain Jack, it still sounds great
this album is full of pure talent
like a cross between Elton John and Steely Dan, even second is pure ecstasy- 10/10
9/10
I like to think of myself as a fairy talented musician, but nothing I make will ever compare to “HELP, I’M A ROCK!”
9/10
super creative and definitely stands out from mainstream electronic/DnB with its Indian/Asian influence
10/10
incredible album, but I feel like a dipshit listening to “that one song from Stranger Things”
this album is UNHINGED
beautifully chaotic prog rock
10/10
6/10
not bad, but sorta mid
fuck, it’s so hard to choose which of these three songs is my favorite
flawless album - 10/10
8/10
early Beatles is fun, and clearly they show their talent in songwriting early on
it definitely stands out from the typical brit-pop of the era
but still, it’s just brit-pop
great, but difficult to refer to as a 10/10 album
10/10
I don’t even know what to say
it’s just fun, weird alternative music
what’s not to love?
10/10
refreshingly unique take on jazz
I don’t know much about Charles Mingus but I’ll definitely be looking into more of his stuff soon
9/10
super fun album
there’s some really, really great stuff here
9/10
Creedence always delivers
even when the songs aren’t amazing, they’re still super darn fun
9/10
Elvis “The King” Costello
9/10
really fun album, I loved the diversity
10/10
god damn! the earlier stuff I’ve heard of k.d. lang I didn’t really like, but this is something special
southern country really isn’t my thing, but this feels like something so much better
I don’t know how to explain it
it’s just such a beautiful album
9/10
super chill, but also very creative and experimental
7/10
the production was very nice
I liked how they were always trying to keep things interesting
not a huge fan of this genre, but it’s still very nice
8/10
really dig this
a bit odd for an electronic album
but still pretty darn good
my dad’s a huge fan of hard rock — it was never really that hard tho for some reason
like it was mostly just Queen and Bon Jovi
but yeah, I feel like I haven’t heard You Give Love a Bad Name in like a decade so it’s pretty fun hearing that again
and Living on a Prayer is amazing too
looking back on it now, it’s a pretty cheesy album, but I can still really enjoy it
I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of Bon Jovi, but on a personal level, I LOVE Jon Bon Jovi ❤️ he’s an amazing person
10/10
fuck, I need to hear Rumors
but this album was so beautiful and endlessly creative
nothing’s better
9/10
maybe I need to give this one another chance some other time
it’s obviously an incredible album, but I didn’t find it as good as their first or third albums
it’s just the slightly awkward in-between album
still amazing tho, just not as good I guess
7/10
I guess this is good?
not really an EDM guy so I can’t speak for how good this is
I guess it’s enjoyable, and the production was sometimes creative
but ultimately, rave electronica just sounds kind of annoying
10/10
proggy as fuck in the best way possible
8/10
super fun album
the first half is mostly silly, goofy songs
and then the second half gets woeful as fuck
Wham Bam is my new theme song
10/10
it has such a fun, retro sound for its time
even tho it came out in the 90s, it feels like something you’d hear from the 70s, at least to my amateur ears
the actual album is so incredibly well made
I just love everything about this
10/10
FANTASTIC production
and endlessly creative
what a beautiful blend of 60s rock and 90s rave
okay, this is actually pretty hard as fuck
but it’s also corny as fuck
many of the songs — but I would just like to call out Only God Knows Why specifically because of how trashy it is — are just so painfully cringe like it’s actually unbelievable
and fucking eminem has a feature on this? like fuck off
the production was often very well done but I can’t fucking believe this white trash joe dirt meets rage against the machine type bullshit actually exists
5/10
10/10
okay, I’ve been putting off Mellon Collie for a looooonng time because I just couldn’t really see myself getting into The Smashing Pumpkins
but actually sitting down and listening to this beautiful behemoth of an album, it all just works together so perfectly
I don’t only understand the hype, I’m completely experiencing it, and it’s beautiful
it’s so cool hearing the Steely Dan members’ solo stuff
you can really hear what charm they can both individually put into the band that create such a perfect sound
and yet they both hold up so well on their own
it’s incredible - 10/10
everything about this is flawless
Björk is one of my all-time favorite singers, paired with these beautiful instrumentals
like I just can’t put into words the incredible experience this is
and to think this isn’t even Björk’s best album just goes to show how insanely talented she is - 10/10
yeah I’d say Wu-Tang is probably in my top three favorite old school hip hop collectives (#1 is definitely A Tribe Called Quest, and I would say #2 is Fugees)
10/10 album, everyone kills it
super fun post-punk album!
lots of charm! I love it
9/10
9/10
fantastic album
it’s just so fun and weird
I like Up on the Sun a little bit more, it’s got a more proggy edge to it
but yeah both these albums are great
10/10
I really couldn’t tell you which one I like for, this or Elephant
they’re both so fun and iconic, with bangers throughout
The White Stripes are such a talented band, I love those two with all my heart ❤️
7/10, it was a fun album and I liked the production (sounded like a bored 14 year old on garageband)
but I can never unironically enjoy british rappers
they sound like such a goofy novelty to me idk
absolutely GORGEOUS
I am in love with these groovy-ass tunes!
10/10
such a beautiful, warm, tender sound
it feels so immersive and personal
I love it ❤️
9/10
10/10
heard this for the first time today, but I really think this is one of the best punk albums I’ve ever heard
perfect from beginning to end
6/10
I guess it’s a well made album, but it’s so so cringey for me to listen to
Mr Brightside and Everything Will Be Alright are total bangers but I kinda think the rest of the album is mid
I’m mostly just petty because my mom is the BIGGEST Killers fan
like I’m convinced the reason we lived in Henderson, Nevada was because that’s where Brandon Flowers is from
I just, idk, her taste in music in garbage
this album wasn’t bad but I just want to hate it out of spite
7/10
9/10
Kate Bush definitely stands out from the rest of the 80s pop scene
I really like her stuff! but it took me a little while to ease into it
Stan and The Real Slim Shady are obviously bangers
and there’s some nice production in other parts
but man, he’s such a cringey edgelord
like bro, your whole “I don’t give a fuck” attitude doesn’t work when your constantly making disstracks
why are you dissing everyone if you don’t care?
5/10
4/10
really not for me
I guess it’s good?
I think Beyoncé is kind of a total piece of shit and these songs are laughably cringey, both in lyrics and production
10/10
Barry Adamson is easily one of my favorite musicians
he is just so incredibly talented and diverse, it’s crazy
I love all these songs so much, it’s very difficult for me to choose a favorite, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be The Man With the Golden Arm just because it’s such a beautiful and crazy way to end the album
so, so proggy
a flawless, phenomenal record
10/10
10/10
oh man, this is so cool
it’s so hard to choose a favorite song!
maybe Alabama Song, or End Of The Night
I don’t know, the whole album is amazing!
7/10
just fun goofy country
nothing special but still enjoyable
10/10
one of the Rolling Stones’ best
7/10
far from a band album, but not really my style
I appreciate it but, y’know
9/10
Elton John meets Prog Rock?! Based!
10/10
beautiful album
not really much more to say
their music kinda speaks for itself
8/10
dang that was so cool and creative! super neat!
10/10
I seriously love how Beck is just doing whatever he wants
constantly jumping between all these amazing different styles
it’s amazing
GOD DAMN why are only one of these songs famous?
dude more than half these tracks could’ve made them one hit wonders, they’re all so amazing
10/10
8/10
super fun! I really enjoyed this :)
10/10
one of the most magical alternative albums I’ve ever heard
truly beyond words
10/10
jazz rock is a flawless genre
I think one of those songs was in 11/8? perfection!
7/10
pretty fun, certainly enjoyable, but a tad cringe
wow, that was something very special
too good to rate, it exists on a tier of its own
10/10
Stevie can’t go wrong! He has the Mitas Touch with his music!
10/10
super funky, super weird, based af
8/10
undeniably a great album
but calling this punk is very debatable
it’s just too traditional in its composition
not to mention like two of these songs (Wrong Em Boyo and Revolution Rock) are practically ska
like yeah, it is a fun album, but I can’t really call these guys punk
Brian Eno AND David Byrne?!
this is actually incredible!
10/10
all of Traffic’s albums are so creative and good, but done in such a fun, easy-listening kind of way
8/10
I really love some fun, experimental punk
and while I didn’t 100% connect with it, it was still very enjoyable regardless
7/10
there’s some good stuff here but I honestly think he’s lucky for getting famous
there’s nothing here that really seems iconic to many
also these whiteys have barely any rhythm (I’m taking about his whole band)
a 7/10 album that loses 2 stars for having the worst fucking singer I’ve ever heard in my life, jesus christ I hope his fucking balls get crushed
zero variation too, it’s like he just found the single most annoying sound he could make with his voice and made an entire career out of it
3/10
8/10
as much as I enjoyed this and WANT to give it a 10/10, it’s just missing something that’s bothering me, idk
still a fantastic album tho
10/10
absolutely incredible
and so underrated
god I wish more people would hear this
8/10
hard rock is kind of an annoying genre, but also these guys are super talented and I really commend them for their talent and creativity
9/10
some really amazing stuff here
a bit dorky at times, but for the most part it’s super solid
10/10
while it is a tad repetitive, it’s far too iconic and innovative for me to give this anything less than what it deserves
8/10
while I can’t call myself an arcade fire fan, this is still an undeniably good album
10/10
quirky as fuck, but an extremely well done, incredibly fun album that flies right by
10/10
one of the coolest hard rock albums I’ve ever heard
Child In Time is such an incredible song
8/10
super solid grunge/hard rock
nothing that really stood out specifically, more just a continuous fun vibe
9/10
lots of fun, and certainly holds up from their previous album
well made but also super cringey
I love how they just randomly drop “fuck” once in like half the songs to sound all cool and hard
9/10
any girl born after 1993 can’t cook… all they know is mcdonald’s, charge they phone, twerk, be bisexual, listen to hot chip & lie
9/10
crazy fun pop album
certified bangers throughout
10/10
easily one of the Beach Boys best albums
a lot darker and more mature than their previous stuff
10/10
wicked cool prog rock meets alternative meets electronica — crazy good album
8/10
lots of fun! what’s not to love?
10/10
been a fan of The Avalanches for a little while
they are geniuses
man, I feel like I really should love The The, but it just sounds weak compared to most of the other punky new wave bands I like
it’s still really good, just not as good as the rest
8/10
8/10
public enemy is awesome! love these guys
10/10
beautiful and endlessly creative
definitely gonna hear this guy’s other stuff
hauntingly beautiful
I need to hear more of his stuff
10/10
9/10
super fun! I really love this!
10/10
idk why people hate on Billie Holiday’s voice
it’s so beautiful!
8/10
not my favorite of Tim Buckley’s work, but still a fantastic album
10/10
The Residents are so fucking cool and crazy
this is beyond just music, it’s transcendental art
9/10
awesome album! a little repetitive at times but still a fantastic experience!
8/10
while the hits definitely hit hard, I don’t think I can give this anything higher than an 8, there’s a lot of slow moments throughout, and songs that are a bit weaker
still a great album though
8/10
pretty cool! a little too british but I really liked it!
9/10
super fun punk! some of the harmonizations are a bit janky, but it’s still a great album
8/10
fun stuff! didn’t love it, but I definitely liked it
8/10
super cool! really liked this!
there too many parts that were very drawn out and obnoxious, but I would still say this is a great album
10/10
holy shit, the vibes are phenomenal
7/10
nothing too special, but definitely fun vibes and generally enjoyable
10/10
I’m so glad Brazilians exist — their music is out of this world
8/10
super cool! I probably would’ve liked this more if George Michael made it, but it’s still a really solid album
9/10
super wild, super fun
really love this one
9/10
painfully straight, but I’ll be damned if ain’t full o’ bangers!
8/10
would’ve been a lot more fun to be there in person
this is a pretty fun collection of songs
really nice to hear but I would prefer a studio album
9/10
sure the Bee Gees are a fairly derivative band, just copying the sounds of The Beatles and Elton John, but it still sounds really good
they’re talented musicians, just not very original, I guess
10/10
few prog rock bands are able to match the endless creativity and charming charisma that Genesis has (only one I can think of is Yes, and maybe Rush)
Peter Fuckin Gabriel, man
10/10
amazing album - 10/10
whoever that singer is, he has the voice of a god
not as bad as I was expecting, but still not really for me - 5/10
I would say this is a pretty fun album
but it’s also just about as basic and generic as it gets when it comes to punk music, imo - 7/10
9/10
idk man, this sounds A LOT like A Tribe Called Quest - can’t say one is ripping off the other, but seems kinda sus
10/10
I listened to the Deluxe Edition, and it was super cool! I love hearing all of the takes for these amazing songs!
5/10
I’m sorry but this irish folk stuff makes me wanna pull my ears off
I was really fighting the urge to turn this off
It’s not complete garbage, I think 5/10 is a fair rating because there is some genuinely good production here, it just REALLY isn’t for me
10/10
I’ve heard some of PJ Harvey’s other stuff, but I’m so glad to be getting around to this
there is some fantastic stuff here; I’d say my favorite song is Man-Size Sextet
I’m a huge fan of experimental/avant classical music
10/10
fantastic psych-pop for 1968
very fun and creative
10/10
listened to this album three times in a row and it just keeps getting better
9/10
such a lovely album
very diverse, and yet it never feels overwhelming
8/10
such a fun, groovy, funky album
it has a lot going for it, and while it might be a little rough in some parts, they had a great vision and stuck with it very well
why does this book have so many british rappers 💀
they’re all so mid
production is really the only thing good here and even that is only okay
6/10
8/10
really fun! gives off Blondie vibes
9/10
probably as good as it gets for Elvis’ discography
amazing stuff here, my personal favorite would be Suspicious Minds
8/10
maybe a little overrated, but still a great hip hop album
I listened to both this and Everything’s Alright Forever and they are both absolutely amazing
10/10
7/10
fun album, easily forgettable, but still pretty good
10/10
Lou Reed is the GOAT
while this might not be as ambitious or creative as the Velvet Underground, it still has that signature charm that makes all of Reed’s music so iconic and lovable
9/10
I don’t get why so many people hate on Neil Young
like yeah, he isn’t the best musician ever, but he is still pretty darn good
8/10
really good! I should listen to this guy’s other stuff
10/10
Some of Joni Mitchell’s best work
absolutely breathtaking
endlessly creative post punk
simply beautiful - 10/10
10/10
calling this “transcendental” would be an understatement
Nick Cave has an incredible talent for breaking the barrier between the musician and the listener, and piercing straight into your soul
10/10
Ellington always delivers
while maybe not as apparently talented as John Coltrane, he still brings a lot to jazz that needs to be acknowledged and appreciated
10/10
I hate 4chan, but /mu/ actually has pretty great tastes ngl
8/10
far from Neil Young’s best, but still a pretty solid album
7/10
pretty cool, a few good songs
but nothing really special
10/10
genius proto-punk, absolutely loved this
I would love to start listening to their other stuff
9/10
incredibly fun
I love the way it almost feels like alt-rock with its mixing and bass-heavy feel
7/10
there was some surprisingly good stuff here
not a particularly memorable hip-hop album for me, but it was still generally good
8/10
really good stuff here
very enjoyable
10/10
god DAMN! I’ve listened to some Hole before but this one really blew me away!
10/10
one of Neil Young’s best albums
some really fantastic songs throughout
10/10
absolutely amazing
oh my god, I can’t tell you how much I love this
8/10
I absolutely loved the production — found it to be phenomenal
I just wish I didn’t find Kate Bush’s voice to be so annoying
maybe it’s not the voice, just the accent
either way, it was a little rough to hear
still loved this album tho
10/10
endlessly fun and creative
these guys were *almost* on par with The Beatles and it sounds really damn good
10/10
Bowie always delivers 🤘
8/10
some pretty good stuff here!
hard to get over the corny lines, but I still generally liked it
fuck dude, I reaaaally want to give this a 10/10
I love almost everything about this; the instrumental arrange is simply divine, and the songs are all so well written
what’s really driving me crazy is her voice
I am NOT a fan of how she sings
it’s like if Bjork was a ukulele girl, it’s painfully annoying
I was thinking of giving this an 8/10, but again, these songs are so damn good I’ll give it a 9/10
maybe on a relisten it’ll be a full 10/10, but for right now, those vocals are just driving me crazy
9/10
I can’t decide if I like this more or less than Idlewild
they’re both so great but in really different ways
10/10
one of the best New-Wave albums I’ve ever heard — endlessly creative
4/10
not as bad as I was expecting; every now and then a song started out surprisingly alright, only to ruin itself with the same garbage that makes this band loathed by so many
8/10
pretty fun, good vibes
10/10
once again, Joni delivers!
10/10
damn, I loved the other Pulp stuff I’ve heard, but this is peak
10/10
whole album is iconic
lots of songs here I absolutely adore
7/10
not a genre I’m a big fan of, but still a pretty great album I can appreciate; very talented musician(s)
10/10 - I don’t know why I was skeptical of getting into Supergrass
every album literally blows me away, reducing me to atoms
10/10
ayo new favorite album just dropped
absolutely beautiful
favorite track was probably Maacina Tooro, but the whole album is just so wonderful
10/10
8/10
really fun punk!
not too special but still pretty neat
7/10
pretty tight
great production and the songs were generally neat, but nothing crazy good
10/10
absolutely beautiful from beginning to end
it’s so easy to get lost in the majestic sounds he can make with his guitar
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would!
not a big R&B fan but the production was tight af - 8/10
10/10
every Smiths album is absolute gold
but fuck Morrissey tho
one of the coolest albums I’ve heard all year
too good to rate
I’ll definitely be revisiting this several more times
9/10
fantastic glam rock album
really love this stuff
10/10
absolutely incredible
bursting with talent
not one second wasted
10/10
timeless album
absolutely incredible in every way
had pretty low expectations for this because 1, I forgot who Frank Black was (frontman of Pixies), and 2, the album cover, title, and seeing that it was a 90s alternative album, I was expecting some mediocre grunge-metal
so glad that this is actually fucking fantastic
although now that I know who Frank Black is, it makes sense that the guy who wrote the songs for Surfer Rosa and Doolittle would write an album like this - 10/10
such a great introduction to Indian music for a western listener like me
while it was a little repetitive at times, I genuinely appreciate this album’s existence and think it’s good to have in this book
8/10
I listen to a lot of Jazz-Rock/Jazz-Fusion/etc.
but this one is just so impressive
like one of the coolest albums I’ve heard all year - 10/10
10/10
fucking iconic and underrated as hell
a bit dry at parts, but mostly pretty cool - 8/10
9/10
amazing stuff throughout
fantastic album
10/10
I FCUKING LOVE DAMON ALBARN
10/10
one of my all-time favorite punk albums (shit’s so punk it’s practically post-punk)
9/10
crazy good, holy shit
I like Unhalfbricking way more, but this was still pretty neat
8/10
10/10
The Divine Comedy has to be one of the coolest musicians I’ve ever heard
he’s got such a great style; I love the way he composes music
10/10
what genre is this?? post-reggae?! it sounds awesome!!
8/10
really fun industrial rock
well made and really interesting
but it has a sound that feels very… political, I guess?
I can only imagine what the lyrics would mean if they were translated to english
7/10
I actually dug this more than I thought I would
a little too hard-rock/grunge at times, but I really liked their usage of synthesizers, and the general composition style was nice
10/10
Peter fucking Gabriel! one of my all-time favorite musicians!
9/10
amazing stuff — I’m really looking forward to hearing more of Petty’s discography
just discovered faces — easily one of my new favorite bands
sucks that they only have like four albums, because each of these are amazing - 10/10
8/10
really fun! there’s some great stuff here
7/10
pretty good stuff
not really a genre I’m a fun of, but this was still very well made
10/10
didn’t know Id like an album like this as much as I did, but hey, these songs are actually really good
super pretentious, but in the kinda way I like — 10/10
10/10
legendary hip hop album
I absolutely adore this
9/10
super fun album
lots of amazing songs throughout; my favorite of which is probably orange
jesus christ this is so pretentious… JUST WHAT I LIKE!
one of my new all-time favorite albums
so bizarre and silly — a prog rock masterpiece
it’s like if Queen was actually good, it’s like if Steely Dan and Genesis had a child who got addicted to meth at age 7
it’s sonic perfection, but it’s also so fucking messy, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was the only person to give this five stars
10/10
one of Michael Jackson’s best
Jackson’s iconic voice, paired with the legendary production of Quincy Jones creates one of the greatest albums of the century
6/10
some good stuff here, but idk
fairly week rap album imo
6/10
Adele has an incredible voice, but this is still pretty generic pop that tends to annoy me
god, this is so lame
I’m sorry but I can’t rate this any higher than a 4/10
crazy impressive album!
it’s wild that something like this gets to exist
what a rich blend of world music! — 9/10
9/10
godDAMN I love M.I.A.!
she’s got such an interesting, one-of-a-kind style that deserves to be commended
8/10
pretty fun! I’m not a huge fan of The Police (ACAB, lmao) but I still thought this was a pretty neat album, even with its kitschy quirks
no wonder Elvis was able to make like three albums a year, all the songs sound the same - 6/10
10/10
one of the coolest movie soundtracks of all time
My personal favorite movie soundtracks are Fantastic Planet (1973) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959), but I still think this album is fantastic
9/10
only like three songs here that are actually good (Tainted Love, Sex Dwarf, and Where Did Our Love Go? — the last which isn’t even on the main album)
but each of those songs are such an amazing 10/10 masterpiece to me that I can overlook the sea of mediocrity that surround those perfect tracks
9/10
yeah, I really like Chic — these folks write hella good music
8/10 — I think Hotel California is peak, but this earlier stuff is still pretty cool
it’s honestly kinda hard to think this is the same band with how much their style changed over their career
8/10 — far from Queen’s best, but still pretty darn good
one of my favorite fusion albums — a masterpiece from beginning to end - 10/10
10/10
god I need more Echo & The Bunnymen in my life
9/10
wonderful production
absolutely loved the creativity here
9/10
crazy good hip hop
I really loved just about every song
10/10
I forgot that this guy was in the Velvet Underground and was completely blown away by how beautiful and imaginative this album is
but now that I know, it should obviously come as no surprise that he’s such a genius
8/10
fun stoner rock, not really my style but super well made
La Grange makes me wanna go to home depot and complain about the price of 2x4s with all the other dads
8/10
pretty good! they brought a unique spice to punk that I really appreciate!
10/10
I’ve heard a fair bit from The Psychedelic Furs before, and I’ve absolutely loved all of it
I’m surprised I haven’t just gone through their entire discography yet
10/10
wow, MBVs discography is so good
I guess all I have left to hear is Isn’t Anything
8/10
I love me some weird ol’ experimental electronic music
it’s no Aphex Twin, but it’s still pretty tight
10/10
one of the most beautiful yet bleak albums ever written
10/10
Pere Ubu has quickly become one of my favorite post-punk bands
their stuff is incredible
9/10
super tight shoegaze
2/10
bro, this shits unbelievably weak
like how can a dude write this and think it sounds hard in any way
it’s just hilariously bad, like oh my god
10/10
thanks, Marvin Gaye 👍 Inventor of Sex
5/10
that was actually a really wonky album
I’m kind of surprised with how weird the composition is in many of these songs
it has a very Elvis Costello-y punk sound to it that I really dig — 8/10
10/10
I will love Beck till the day I die
10/10
oh boy, to think a debut album can be this perfect blows my mind
10/10
a punk masterpiece that *almost* leans into post-punk territory
6/10
Ministry actually started out really good! their first few album were awesome! but then it just turned into awkward metal that I really don’t care for
eh, I don’t really care for bands that try to sound like U2, but end up sounds like One Republic - 6/10
10/10
Herbie Hancock has gotta be one of my all-time favorite musicians
his interpretation of jazz is so legendary and sets itself apart from all other musicians
god Radiohead is one of the best bands ever
10/10
10/10
making me wanna act like a 14 year old who was born in the wrong generation
7/10
pretty fun! I like it a lot!
9/10
wonderful album from beginning to end
I liked this a little bit more than their first album too
well this is a new all-time favorite
too good to rate
10/10
we’re hitting dangerously high ratings on the funky scale
8/10
wonderful jazz album
lots to love hear
10/10
reminds me of Poe, who I’m also a huge fan of
10/10
LOOOOOOOOVE Sam Cooke
10/10
I feel like George Harrison doesn’t get enough love
I know his contribution to the Beatles discography wasn’t as prolific as John or Paul’s, but he still has some really incredible songs in there
but what makes this album so special is that his talent gets to be front and center
he holds nothing back as he shows you his complete and honest self in the most artistically creative way possible
this album has always held a special place in my heart and I sincerely hope more Beatles fans would give this a listen
10/10
Cocteau Twins has gotta be one of my favorite shoegaze bands
swampy psychedelia?
sign me the fuck up — 10/10
6/10
music for annoying wine moms
I don’t know anything about Tina Turner but I think I love her now — 10/10
10/10
can’t go wrong with The Yardbirds, holy shit
10/10
I’ve now heard 3 albums by this band and am absolutely obsessed with each one, but if you put a gun to my head asked for what the band’s name is, I don’t think I’d be able to tell you
the listed genre of this album should just be “yes”
10/10
8/10
not as good as YCALWB, but still pretty great
8/10
super solid rap album, lots to love here
9/10
showcases some of Dylan’s best songs
while he’s not the best performer/musician, he sure is an incredible songwriter
incomprehensibly pretentious
just the way I like it - 10/10
10/10
a beautifully rich new wave album
blending a wide variety of different genres
an absolutely flawless blend of rock and blues, reminiscent of The Rolling Stones, but still bursting with original character — 10/10
10/10
VERY ambitious for a pop album, but I guess that’s just how 80s UK was
New Wave is inherently a 10/10 for me
9/10
wonderful gothy atmosphere
I absolutely adore this shit
7/10
there’s some pretty good stuff here
but nothing that really stood out as very special
9/10
Massive Attack has gotta be one of the coolest electronic bands I’ve heard
they might not be as good as Aphex Twin or Air, but they’re still absolutely fantastic
9/10
absolutely wonderful
I truly adored this
4/10
he can’t be fucking serious 💀
this feels like a shitpost
10/10
I’ve heard this album before
it’s one of my favorite 2000s alternative albums
10/10
holy shit, first Carpenters album I’ve heard and it’s such a masterpiece
favorite track was probably Mr. Guder, and I loved the way it transitioned into the final two tracks
Jazz Rock is always an automatic 10/10 for me
and Tim Buckley is one of the most talented, and tragically short-lived artists I’ve ever had the privilege of listening to
8/10
cute, silly lil folk tunes
she has an absolutely beautiful voice
10/10
I FUCKING LOVE BERT JANSCH
10/10
I want Patrick Bateman to mansplain this album to me
9/10
love this shit — so catchy
I need to hear the deluxe remaster sometime
10/10
nobody was doin it like fuckin Kraftwerk
10/10
one of my favorite hip hop albums
8/10
I fucking hate Morrissey as a person, but he’s still an incredibly talented musician
10/10
men will hear this and say ‘hell yeah!’
definitely an overrated album, but that shouldn’t take away anything from the quality of this, as it’s a damn good album - 9/10
9/10
crazy good rock album
absolutely adored the diversity
10/10
an absolute masterpiece of psychedelic rock
every single song has something I cherish about it
but obviously the masterpiece here is “White Rabbit”
10/10
impressive as hell for 2007
it has such a crazy good, larger-than-life sound that I just absolutely adore
i’m getting really tired of these aggressively dominant metrosexual fuckboys - 4/10
10/10
some of the greatest pioneers (or maybe even inventors?) of punk rock
they knew exactly what they were doing and executed it perfectly
every song is a 10/10
I fucking love these guys
8/10
awesome album, but I could’ve done with a little less of the 💥💥🧨💣🤯🤯😡😡📢📢💥📢
post-punk is basically an automatic 10/10 for me
especially when it slaps this hard
I can’t decided which song is my favorite! I fucking love every Abba song I hear! - 10/10
every time I hear a new Tom Waits album, it just totally blows my mind and changes the way I see what you can do with rock and music in general
this one definitely sounded pretty similar to Swordfishtrombones but considering that’s my favorite Waits album, I’m not complaining at all — 10/10
10/10
Can has gotta be one of the coolest rock bands I’ve ever heard
fantastic debut — perfect from beginning to end — 10/10
10/10
pretty unique for an alternative album (ironically)
I honestly really dug this, so many great songs, and the deluxe version had some really neat acoustic variations
9/10
absolutely wonderful poetry and beautiful instrumentals — a really really great album
10/10
I’ve been a fan of Fela Kuti’s Zombie album for a long time; it’s really cool knowing his son is just as talented
I love this band and their silly lil synth-pop :)
10/10
wow this was really good! never really got into Frank Ocean before, but I totally get what all the hype is about
definitely a very solid 2010s pop/r&b album - 9/10
I absolutely loved There’s A Riot Goin’ On the first time I heard that, and this one is just as great!
Sly & The Family Stone is one of the coolest rock bands I’ve ever heard, and I’m very excited to hear the rest of their stuff - 10/10
10/10
I’m surprised that I love Swedish garage rock this much, but damn is it a great rock album
so cool! oh my god I love John Lennon!
10/10
10/10
some of the coolest psych-rock I’ve ever heard
9/10 godDAMN, this is my shit
10/10
perfect album in my eyes
even when it gets super cheesy, I’ll still eat this shit up
8/10
a little weak for a Willie Nelson album, but hey, it’s Willie Nelson, it’s gonna be great regardless
9/10
even though I find this album a little exhaustingly repetitive, it’s still such a masterpiece of rock, and an amazing soundtrack to a fantastic movie
a little too grungy for my tastes, but still a great album - 8/10
well I guess I just found a new favorite musician - 10/10
9/10
not Brian Eno’s strongest project, but still some damn enjoyable prog-rock
8/10
super solid rock album
I absolutely love the merging of different cultures
8/10
yeah I dig Orbital’s stuff
it’s fun
10/10
experimental alternative rock is the best
6/10
there’s some good stuff here, but I don’t know, I just couldn’t really link up with it
I found the concept kinda boring
8/10 - pretty tight
but I think it’s a little weak next to the peers of their time
8/10
super solid Morrissey album
but he’s still a piece of shit person
what a wonderful album, endlessly original and full of diversity
I loved this so much, I gave it a relisten two more times after it ended- 10/10
10/10
filthy fucking garbage - anti-music - ART
3/10
just absolute cringe
the kind of thing that can only exist in a satire making fun of metal heads
never really got into R.E.M. before
but this album was delightful! I loved it
9/10
Fantastic album! so much to love in each song! - 9/10
9/10
slightly weak for a Roxy album, but that’s like slightly less perfect than perfection
can’t believe this album wasn’t made in the 70s - 10/10
4/10
just total cringe
really can’t stand this kinda shit
it took well over 800 albums before it finally generated one of my all-time favorite albums, Kimono My House by Sparks
I can not recommend this album enough
it’s too good to rate, but I guess five stars will have to suffice
9/10
crazy good, like beastie boys meets bob dylan
solid electronic album that takes A LOT from earlier rock - 8/10
I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to get into U2
it’s just really hard for me to love
but I still think it’s well made - 7/10
I really love this
even tho it just kinda sounds exactly like The Byrds country era - 9/10
10/10
at this point I’m convinced Nick Cave is incapable of making a bad album
7/10
pretty fun electronic
doesn’t sound too special to me
honestly don’t know why it’s in this book
honestly, ‘1001’ needs way more Aphex Twin, Oneohtrix Point Never, and other guys who actually really pushed the boundaries of electronic music and made stuff that’s truly legendary
this mundane dance music is fun but I wouldn’t say it’s essential listening
Sufjan Stevens can sometimes be a little hit-or-miss for me
some of his albums can feel a little too out-there, even for me — one of the biggest fans of weird-ass weirdo shit
but many of his albums are the perfect blend of weird and accessible, and this is probably one of the best examples of that
a perfect 10/10 in my eyes
I can’t decide which song is my favorite
probably The Tallest Man, The Broadest Shoulders just because I can’t get that absolutely legendary 11/8 flow out of my head
it moves as an interchanging flow of 5/8 then 6/8, then 5/8 back to 6/8
and that sounds weird, but it’s so goddam catchy for this pretentious prog-rock/math-rock nerd
10/10
one of Bob Dylan’s best albums
he’s one of the finest songwriters of his generations and provides banger after banger in this tracklist
my favorite song might be Ballad of a Thin Man (Mr. Jones), Desolation Row, or (of course,) Like a Rolling Stone
while he might not be the best musician (when it comes to actually playing/performing music) he sure is one of the all time greatest songwriters of the 20th century
9/10
really really loved this
but I wish I had more to say about it
4/10
it’s just trying so hard to be edgy, but it comes across as soft and boring
this genre is so boring to me, idk
10/10
I’ve been a big fan of this album for a long time
it always makes me very sad to hear it
even if the songs slap, there is a horribly dark irony in the subject matter of the songs, and what followed for Winehouse in real life
the short discography, and life of Amy Winehouse are both indescribably beautiful and tragic
7/10
pretty good, didn’t love it, but I definitely liked it
favorite song was probably Daydreamin’ but the sampled song Daydream In Blue by I Monster is way better
10/10
some of Pink Floyd’s best work
I absolutely love every second of this
and it is recognized as a prog rock classic for good reason
9/10
it took me a while to get into the album and start appreciating its vibe, but when I did, dude, this album HITS
banger after banger, crazy good production
I really really love this
8/10
pretty great punk album!
the vocals would occasionally bug the heck out of me, but this album has really solid production and a great energy
never really got into the Arctic Monkeys before
but WOW, this is really good!
it’s kind of like a slightly pop-y Post-Punk, so like almost new wave but with a lot more freeform ambitious aggression
fantastic album - easy 10/10 for me
9/10
not their best work, but still a CRAZY good album
10/10
PSYCHEDELIC POP !!!!!!!
8/10
super cool alternative album!
nice vibe! really love it!
it has been wayyy too long since I’ve heard some good jazz - 10/10
7/10
not really my genre, but still a wonderful album by a very talented artist who passed too soon
art rock of this caliber is an automatic 10/10 for me
10/10
I LOVE YOU DOLLY PARTON
the boys made an art rock album? what the hell?
10/10
7/10
some songs were really good
some songs were laughably shit
mostly alright I guess
8/10
yeah R.E.M. is one of those bands that never really surprises me with anything super special, but still deliver pretty nice, consistently enjoyable stuff
10/10
damn, Tim Buckley really delivered such an amazing and diverse discography
despite it being tragically short, it really did so much
10/10
holy shit, I already have a HUGE bias for post-punk, it’s one of my favorite genres, but this album really surpassed my expectations
it’s really insane just how creative and diverse this project is
I love it so much
8/10
super solid rap album
Public Enemy has some really great stuff
jesus christ this is a new favorite for me
it has all the upbeat melancholy of a Smiths album
with all of the relentlessly creative, post-punk/new-wave charm of a Talking Heads album
seriously, this is so unbelievably good
I just can’t even emphasize enough just how much I love this
I’ve already relistened to this 3 times — 10/10
8/10
I prefer Mellon Collie, but this is still a really great album
10/10
everything I could ever want and more
perfect rock revival album
10/10
I’ve only heard two of Wyatt’s albums, but I already feel like a die-hard fan
he’s so fucking good at making art rock
I’m a huge fan of the soundtrack to The Point, but I’d never heard any of Nilsson’s other stuff
I’m so glad I listened to this album because it’s so unbelievably good
too good to rate, but I guess five stars will suffice
7/10
I really wanted to love this, but there’s just something that kinda drags this album down
it’s still super enjoyable but not as good as I would hope
8/10 really good Nirvana era grunge
lots of fun throughout
10/10
I don’t know, I feel like I shouldn’t love this as much as I do, but there’s just something about it
it’s so good and I don’t know why
so unbelievably good
Nico is such a one-of-a-kind artist - 10/10
10/10
Curtis fuckin Mayfield! the man can’t miss!
I can’t put into words the joy I feel listening to his music
9/10
Speakerboxxx was fantastic, and The Love Below was legendary
such a great rap album
10/10
wtf this is so good, how have I never heard of this before
9/10
crazy good avant-rock
there’s not much like this out there
pretty much just as awesome as the other album I’ve heard from them, Dog Man Star
incredible composition and production, I really just adore the way that (The London) Suede sounds - 9/10
10/10
pretty much every track on this is a total banger
this is probably my favorite Neil Young album
it’s kinda hard to get into Sonic Youth, but when you do, weird shit like this really hits - 9/10
it’s just endlessly obnoxious
I get why some people like this kinda stuff but it is not for me at all - 3/10
5/10
okay I guess?
it’s not terrible, but it’s impossible for me to get into grunge
I have no idea how these guys are famous
7/10
not really for me
but I can still appreciate it :)
10/10 listening to this album feels like a light has entered my life
8/10
normally I’d give a psych rock album a higher rating but idk, this was honestly a little subpar ngl
surprisingly delightful hard rock album
lots of fun - 7/10
8/10
pretty great rap album! lots to love
8/10
honestly a little surprised I didn’t like this more
it’s a classic, but for some reason just didn’t really effect me as much
still, I thought it was very well written and enjoyable
9/10 lots of fun
super well written folk songs :)
7/10
pretty cool jungle/drum n bass album
I dig it :)
10/10
love me some psychedelic art rock
I feel like Jack White is one of only a handful of artists who are able to play such a wide variety of different rock genres, and genuinely nail every single one in a genuinely ambitious and respectful way
Beck would be another great example
and I’m not a fan of John Mayer, but he seems to kind of be there?
anyway, this album is a 10/10 - loved every song :)
I really loved it
don’t know why so many people are so salty about this album - 10/10
10/10
absolutely adore everything about this
9/10
kind of a mess of an album, but I absolutely adore this shit
9/10
fantastic rock album
so many great songs, great aesthetics too
6/10
solid rap album
but there’s so much blatant misogyny that I was just rolling my eyes for a large portion of this
only thing wrong with this album is how short it is - 10/10
god I love listening to Tom Waits
feels like forever since I’ve heard one of his albums - 10/10
7/10, kinda fun I guess? sorta questionable why this is in the book tho, not that amazing
can’t believe this mf is irish
10/10
really good album!
I haven’t fully connected with Manic Street Preachers yet, I still feel a little distant from their sound, but I still find it pretty good! - 8/10
god DAMN! I love you Randy ❤️
10/10
I can admit that Queen is a little overrated, but I also love how they managed to make prog-rock as mainstream as they did
10/10
10/10
if Deep Purple has no fans, then I am no longer alive
10/10
definitely a bit different from his other work, but still so great
8/10
really nice! very pleasing aesthetic
7/10
actually super solid production
but, I’m not a fan of this genre
10/10
some of Elliot’s best work
I absolutely love every second of this — I highly recommend giving the deluxe edition a listen
holy shit, this is so good !!!!
10/10
9/10
absolutely beautiful
I love quirky french shit
10/10
damn, I wasn’t expecting Simon & Garfunkel to go psychedelic, but it sounds so fucking good
8/10
definitely not as annoying as I was expecting,
actually pretty well written songs
not really my genre, but I can still appreciate it
10/10
such a great album
the hard panning stereo was charming
I doubt the mixers were expecting people to listen to this with headphones haha
7/10
the more I listen to Morrisey’s solo stuff, the less I think he was the mastermind behind The Smiths
I know Johnny Marr co-wrote a lot of the songs, I’ll dig into his discography sometime and see if it’s better than Morrisey’s solo stuff
because this is kinda looking like a Seinfeld situation where the frontman (Jerry Seinfeld)’s solo stuff isn’t nearly as good, but then you look at the other guy (Larry David)’s other stuff (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and it’s just as high caliber if not more, and you realize he did like all the work and is the only reason it’s actually good
idk, I guess I’ll find out when I listen to his stuff
9/10
welp, the chorus to Cars Are Cars is gonna be stuck in my head for an annoyingly long time
holy shit! fell in love with this album listening to it, that I decided to listen to the 2-part super deluxe 6.5 hour edition of the album and it was so much fun! absolutely love this - 10/10
10/10, genuinely great album — although I gotta be honest, I don’t think Fast Car is the best song here, but that should just go to show how consistently good the album is
9/10 - pretty insane for 1968, gotta give a lot of respect to this one :)
10/10, I’ve only really known Meat Loaf from RHPS (and Fight Club), so it was very interesting hearing a solo album of his that delivers the same heat as the movie’s soundtrack
10/10 likely his best solo work, and a damn good album at that
10/10
loved Want Two when I first had that generated for me way back, and this is great too!
10/10 huge fan of the psychotic post punk scene that came out of NYC in the 80s
very similar to one of my alltime favorite bands, Swans
6/10
tale as old as time;
a western musician becomes obsessed with African and Asian (particularly Indian) music and incorporates it into their rock music
the only difference is, Jah Wobble doesn’t have even a fraction of the talent that George Harrison, Paul Simon, etc. have
10/10
huge fan of his other album Solid Air
and while I definitely like that one more, this was still absolutely delightful
10/10 suuuuch a good album
endless warmth and soul
10/10, I’m a HUGE fan of Al Green
probably more than Marvin Gaye (mayyybe, it’s close)
but yeah I love them both, so fucking good
8/10
pretty good electronica
I can see why Soderbergh wanted him to score a bunch of his movies
9/10
far from his best album, but he’s having fun and I like it :D
8/10 super fun, but a little too repetitive, every song sounds the same
but the western genre is amazing, and this is arguably the most iconic example
8/10 - the rapping is pretty good, but it’s the instrumentals/production that really steal the show here
10/10
such beautiful sound scapes
I love David Crosby ❤️
10/10, it’s crazy how much change they’ve made as a band
they’re first and last albums are basically unrecognizable
6/10 incredibly mid
quite unremarkable
10/10
for a novelty band, they sure seem to have an endless amount of genuine talent
I also adore their movie Head
I can give a lot of praise to this album for having 69 totally unique songs
even if some are clearly better than others, I still am in awe at the sheer ambition here
plus I’m a huge fan of Stephin Merritt and The Gothic Archies (I looooove Daniel Handler / Lemony Snicket / Series of Unfortunate Events) so this was an easy 10/10 for me
8/10
pretty good, but nothing too profound
9/10
loved the production here, and he has a wonderful voice
10/10
really beautiful stuff here
10/10
really insane production, with surprisingly engaging melodies and chord progressions
just a good time all around :)
8/10
not really my genre, but it’s well made and I agree with the politics so there’s that
8/10 so distinctly Pharrell-ian, it makes you wonder what the other two guys are doing here
10/10 some of the most beautiful orchestration and instrumentation I’ve ever heard
it’s difficult for me to pick a favorite song, but if I had to choose one I’d likely go with Zopf: In a Sydney Motel
4/10 I guess the instrumentals are okay, somewhat fun compositions, but I fucking HATE the vocals, they remind me of Bono, who annoys the shit out of me
also, it’s so fake-deep
Muse is like Roger Waters with twice the ego and half the talent
6/10
hey, I’ll take it over contemporary christian pop, but it’s really not that much better
10/10
Bossa Nova, my love…
10/10
not their best album, but that’s really not saying much considering how incredible their discography is
10/10
I love Banhart’s style so much
it’s so fun and weird
outsider folk is such an underrated genre
10/10
very beautiful compositions here
I absolutely loved this
10/10
as a diehard fan of Swans and Boards of Canada, this music slaps
10/10
super fun, mildly psychedelic
I really like this
I’m pissed that I’m like 900 albums in and only just now got my first King Crimson album lmao
this isn’t even their best album, but it’s still fucking incredible - 10/10
very kitschy, but a few of the songs were pretty good - 7/10
8/10
pretty good, I wouldn’t say it’s good enough to be on this list, but I had fun
7/10
I’m a little underwhelmed
I feel like I should’ve liked this way more than I did
the orchestration just really wasn’t doing it for me with Brian Wilson’s style, sorry
yeah I reaaally don’t give a shit about U2
I guess they make good music but they're really not my thing - 6/10
10/10
I’ve always been a huge fan of Bob Marley, but only ever listened to his Legend: Best Of compilation, so hearing an actual studio album of his was a nice experience :)
7/10
pretty good, idk, I’ve heard better from his contemporaries
makes me wanna listen to Jeff Buckley
10/10
haven’t heard a bad Rolling Stones album yet haha
ayyy more Post/Punk, my beloved :D 10/10
haven’t heard any Lana Del Ray yet so I decided to start from the beginning, and it’s actually pretty great! started with 8s for BtD and Ultraviolence, then a 10 for Honeymoon, a 9 for LfL, and then a 10/10 for Norman Fucking Rockwell and this!
she really does have a unique sound that I can admire
even if I’m not much of a pop fan, I can really appreciate her approach to it :)
8/10
really beautiful stuff, loved the singer’s voice
but most of the compositions and arrangements were a little plain, I still really enjoyed it :)
10/10
on apple music (and probably other places too) this album was released with a bonus album of unreleased tracks called Wings of Love, and— while I loved Inspiration Information — Wings of Love was just so surprisingly modern! or I guess a better term would be post-retro?
most of those songs sound like they would be sampled in some hella fresh vaporwave, and some of them sound like they already have
but yeah, all in all, a super enjoyable album :)
10/10
Fiona doesn’t have a single bad song, — let alone a bad album — one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever heard, and the way she grows and evolves throughout her discography without ever sacrificing quality in any way is truly as inspiring as it gets
10/10
holy shit, why is this so much fun! more rock that sounds like this please!
10/10
I’ve listened to a lot of post-rock, but there’s something about Spiritualized that keeps my coming back for more
9/10 very fun and creative! interesting to hear latin musicians’ interpretation of funk and hip hop
3/10
incredibly unenjoyable
it’s possible to be edgy and contrarian while also making music that’s genuinely good (see: Bob Dylan, David Bowie); this, is not that
8/10, kinda cheesy, but also genuinely good rap
10/10
I’ve heard a few of these songs before, but they’re so timeless I could listen to them hundreds more times :D
7/10, kinda disappointing for a McCartney album, but still some good stuff here
8/10
silly cheesy fun, a bit dated but still a good time
10/10
where all my EW&F sluts at?
if these guys only made instrumental songs, I’d like them, but again— as with my review for Aha Shake Heartbreak — they have good instrumentals, and the absolute most dogshit annoying singer I’ve ever heard in my life - 4/10
9/10
super fun, kinda cheesy, really liked it
10/10
holy shit these guys are fuckin talented!
10/10 - this album has always held a dear place in my heart
it’s nice having an excuse to listen to it again :)
7/10
not a fan of this genre but I think it’s pretty well made
7/10
kinda feels pointless, but I guess there’s some alright stuff here occasionally
6/10, fun but unremarkable
10/10
never heard any of her stuff before, but I’m certainly a fan now!
6/10
less impressive than I remember it
I recognized a large number of the samples used in this album which made me doubt how much talent Kanye actually has?
like any idiot can take an already good song and throw some drums and an 808 bass over it
granted, I am a sucker for good wordplay and one-liners which this album offers an endless amount of, but I’m not as impressed with the production as I’d like to be :/
10/10
every song here is so good!
10/10
surprisingly avant-garde! I almost wanna call it post-country!
10/10
fun and weird! kinda reminds me of Pere Ubu a bit
8/10 better than I expected! I don’t really like Alice Cooper, but this was surprisingly enjoyable!
8/10 pretty great!
not my favorite White Stripes album, but I sure did enjoy it!
10/10
Ill take any excuse to listen to more Dinosaur Jr haha
8/10
fun! I love some cheesy old school punk :)
10/10 - The Kinks have got to be one of the most significant rock bands of all time, it’s such a shame that they never got as famous as their peers (Beatles, Rolling Stones), because they are just as talented and prolific
10/10
Rod Stewart is an incredible talent, and I love that this book has introduced me to multiple albums of his
7/10 - pretty fun! plenty of songs I liked hear, tho nothing profound
6/10
not really a fan of this genre, but I guess it was well made
it certainly takes talent to make music like this even if I don’t really appreciate it
don’t get what all the hate was about
I sure as hell enjoyed it - 9/10
9/10
love me some catchy experimental punk!
10/10 - DID SOMEONE SAY PROG ROCK ???
8/10 pretty good! far from his best work, and the more country-oriented tracks annoyed me a bit, but this was overall fairly good
9/10 - love me some industrial electronica
10/10
holy shit! Iggy Pop consistently blows me away every time I hear an album of his!
8/10 - pretty good! very unique for a rock album :)
10/10 - Johnny Cash, my beloved
this has my favorite song of his, written by one of my alltime favorite people Shel Silverstein: A Boy Named Sue
10/10
The word “Love” doesn’t do justice to how much I adore this band
10/10 - you said it Miles Davis, this might’ve well invented coolness itself
as with any Kinks album, this is truly, truly amazing, and I’m genuinely pissed they didn’t reach the same amounts of stardom as their peers (Beatles, Rolling Stones,) when they very much deserve it - 10/10
10/10 - the more I listen to Baaba Maal, the more I love him
such an underrated talent :)
obligatory 10/10 for jazz
9/10
I actually really like R.E.M. :)
sure, they might be a little overrated, but I had fun
10/10 - actually a super cool hip hop album, lots to respect here, even if a few songs were kinda corny lol
10/10 loooove Deep Purple far more than their peers and contemporaries
10/10 Traffic has got to be one of the most talent rock bands I’ve ever heard, going through their discography
9/10 some reeeaaally really beautiful country you can’t help but love
9/10 haven’t listened to this one again in a very long time
I remember hearing Blue Flowers in a tv show and loving it so much I decided to hear the rest of the album
while I would say that said song is the highlight of the album, that isn’t to say the rest of the album isn’t absolutely superb
10/10
I’m no stranger to this album, but ever time I come back to it, I love it more than before
10/10
I’ve heard this one a few times, and I don’t know why I love it so much; I guess it just has such an effortless talent at melting you into this Eastern-inspired, avant-garde rock atmosphere
9/10
consistently very fun and creative
I’m sure this was a very important album at the time is was made
8/10
I guess I liked this a lot more than most of the other people here, idk
8/10 super fun, and definitely a classic for the era
so unbelievably mid
the only song here I liked was Split, everything else feels so empty and pointless - 5/10
obligatory 10/10 for another jazz album
8/10
pretty good! I had fun :)
7/10
definitely a charming album, but I tend to be fairly critical of this era of music, because I feel it set the standard for the mass corporatization of pop music; frankly, you can TASTE the industrialism; it completely lacks any soul, it feels like it was grown in a lab to be as kitschy as possible
I still found some songs to be kinda catchy, but it’s REALLY really fake
10/10
there’s something particularly special about jazz being paired with an accordion— or in this case, a bandeón, which is technically a type of concertina; beautiful regardless
8/10
honestly, surprised I didn’t like this as much as the later stuff
but still a pretty great album regardless
9/10, these guys sure know how to do everything right haha
certainly a classic, but kind of a one-off novelty
great production paired with vocals that feel a-dime-a-dozen when every performer sounds the same and uses the same flow
but I enjoyed it for the sake of nostalgia as this is my dad’s favorite rap album, so naturally I grew up with it too - 7/10
6/10
kinda fun electronic, idk
6/10
I guess it’s fun, but I can’t tell why it’s in this book
5/10
not a fan of grunge, but this was still fairly well produced I guess
had no idea Björk was in a relationship with Matthew Barney, and this album is about the breakup; funny timing considering I just started the Cremaster series on a whim (the first movie I’ve ever seen by him)
anyway, obviously 10/10 for me
10/10
I’m sure plenty of other people have valid criticisms for Super Furry Animals, but I always enjoy the hell out of every album I hear from them :)
some enjoyable parts, but mostly pretty dry
I can see why they named their band after Swans tho - 6/10
8/10
love that like the only 2 songs I know by Aerosmith are both on here lol
10/10
super catchy, and I loved the Mrs. Robinson cover that I’m like 90% sure was in Wolf of Wallstreet
4/10 I guess that’s what I get for listening to a pop star’s album that’s just called “music”
9/10
super fun R&B, really enjoyable stuff here
can see why most people would hate this; it’s like the final boss of berkeley circlejerking, but goddamn did I fucking enjoy this
exactly what you’d expect from Punk Jazz, chaotic cacophony paired with genuine, intelligent improvisation, it all works together so well
but obviously if you’re not a fan of avant-garde jazz, calling this “jarring” is a bit of an understatement - 10/10
10/10
way weirder than I was expecting, even for XTC - cool shit!
10/10 what the hell this is so catchy and creative!
far from my first time hearing this but I’ll take any excuse to listen to it again
Nick Drake truly was one of the most talented musicians around, and tragically too good for this world - 10/10
10/10
you can’t go wrong with any Belle & Sebastian, it all works perfectly
10/10
aw man, their first album has such a special place in my heart, it’s great hearing this :)
10/10 absolutely loved this! I can hear a strong influence from The Kinks in their music
I also checked out their self titled album (with the skeleton hand xray thing) and was a little disappointed it was a lot dryer, but still alright
10/10 I know it’s an unpopular opinion that I prefer Figure 8 to this, but I still think this is a truly incredible album with so many fantastic songs
9/10 crazy good! even tho I usually don’t love electronica that much, this sure was enjoyable :)
9/10
I certainly have a bit of a soft spot for alternative rock
this is very much in the same vein as Arctic Monkeys, and I like that the singer sounds a lot like Mel Tormé— especially Lullaby of Birdland <3
10/10
another classic that I’ve already heard but love getting to relisten to; just a masterpiece of gargantuan, extravagant psychedelia
avant-garde synth pop?!? automatic 10/10
