Hard to find an album that's more 80's white America than this, so if that's your thing you've lucked out with this one.
Got a long drive to do through the night? This will keep you going. From the halcyon days of acid house and all night parties in unknown locations. This will take you back there.
Either it’s a ‘grower’ or I have severe adhd but I couldn’t listen to any one track all the way through.
Not a band I’m familiar with and after listening to this I feel I’ve not been missing out much. A poor man’s Meatloaf, if there is such a thing it’s Fishbone. I realize I may have offended 2 sets of fans with that and for that I’m sorry.

Not a fan. First time I have heard of this guy and I am glad to say I haven’t missed out.
Ok, I’ll just going to say it, it sounds like a bunch of guys having a music session together rather than a actual album. I mean maybe that’s the intention I dunno but with the exception of the album title track they all just passed me by. I like to think I’m pretty diverse and open minded with my music tastes but after a week of doing these reviews it appears that I’m not, so there’s that.
Finally an album I already know. This and Stanley Road and you have the best of Paul Weller, prove me wrong…
Never heard of this guy before, loved some of the tracks enough to add them to my favorites. But strangely couldn’t even listen to others. Real mixed bag for me. Kinda sounded like a ‘best of’ album to me in that way and not an album per se. hard to give this one a star rating but I’ll have to give it a go I guess.
One or 2 tracks I like, I guess you need to be a fan.
First few seconds in it feels like a grower. I hope I’m right cause those albums are usually the best. Well I added it to my favorites, going to need a few more listens though. Tbh I kinda found the vocals a bit annoying, can I say that? I guess I just did.
Hard pass! I know it’s Radiohead and all that. Indeed this why I bought it when it was released (on cd). Revisiting it again now I find it just as unlistenable. Were they completely stoned when they made this album? Were they just bored of everything? Is it possible they were both? Last track is passable, maybe that’s when then woke up. Sorry diehard Radioheads.
A masterpiece! If you think any different you’re not playing it loud enough. From the days when albums were albums not playlists.
Not a fan, gave it a listen anyway. Still not a fan. So we have learnt nothing here.
The only artist I know who’s albums are so over shadowed by his greatest hits album. I too am guilty of this and intend to rectify this from today.
Some genuine classics on here, as well as countless romcom soundtracks. But don’t let that put you off. Awesome voice. The sound of 60s smalltown middle America right there.
Really not for me. I hope her later stuff is better. I tried but really couldn’t listen to any of the tracks all the way through.
Some good stuff on here however after the brilliant debut album, Red Roses for me, I think it disappoints.
Not a band I’m familiar with and after listening to this I feel I’ve not been missing out much. A poor man’s Meatloaf, if there is such a thing it’s Fishbone. I realize I may have offended 2 sets of fans with that and for that I’m sorry.
Meh
Probably a voice you either love or hate, unfortunately I think I’m in the latter camp
An album that sounds to me to be ahead of it’s time. Defining the meaning of progressive.I had just started listening to music when this album came out and apart from the very obviously commercial single releases on the album, it was probably too progressive for me at the time. Proving at least that youth is indeed wasted on the young.
Sorry but no. Want to give 0 stars but I guess 1 will have to do. Found myself losing the will to live while listening but that probably says more about me than the album.
Im not sure if you have to be a fan of Ella Fitzgerald or George Gershwin, I’m guessing it’s the latter. I now know that I am not.
Like green olives, blue cheese and red wine this album is better every time. If you want to know what Jazz is this is it.
Hopefully I don’t get any hate mail from this as I’m aware that Frank Zappa is considered to be a God by some of his fans but here goes. I stuck this album on to listen to while taking a bath. Instantly regretted this decision as this meant I was stuck with the album for the duration. Ok, I’m not familiar with his work so I’m just going to say it, if his intention for this album was to take the piss out of early Pink Floyd in a non humorous way, then mission accomplished. There I said it, bring on the hate.
Hmmm.. Prince meets James Brown meets Grandmaster flash?
One of the 5 essential Beetles albums, if you don’t know this album then you’re in luck. You get to listen to it for the first time. The sound of youth.
This was a hard listen. It seems to me to be an early example of that difficult second album. Or maybe no Nico was the problem. Or maybe you just had to be there, and I wasn’t obviously.
Every so often an album of genius comes along. This time it was the chili peppers turn to prove the perfect album does exist.
Didn’t really get them the first time around and now they just feel dated to me and I still don’t get them. Sorry but it’s another meh.
I suspect it’s a bit of a ‘grower’ and probably worth another listen, so 3 stars just in case. I added it to my list for this reason only. Nothing remarkable in the recording production though, sounded a bit flat, if that matters to you.
Sorry, maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood but I found myself losing the will to live while listening to this. I’m sure it was good in it’s day while lying in tall grass and tripping out on lsd and wondering why we can’t all just get along. My wife liked the harmonies, I didn’t really.
So eighties you can smell the hairspray. Trapped somewhere between country and Bonnie Tylers hair. Not sure how it made it out of the sports bars, karaoke lounges and the pool houses of the mid west. Though having lived through this era I’m pretty sure it didn’t cross the Atlantic. Elevator music at worst, pedestrian at best. However, mostly harmless.
I think even hard core fans of the duo would struggle with this one. According to wiki it’s a ‘concept album’ so read whatever you like into that. The most remarkable thing about this album is that it topped the Billboard 200 in 1968. I can only guess that it was bought on the strength of their previous works particularly the graduate which was of the same year. I imagine the vast majority of those who bought it were greatly disappointed and immediately filled it at the back of their record collection, never to be played again. 1 star is too many.
Distinctive sound, terrible name. Green Day long before Green Day. With an average track of just over 100 seconds I can imagine a really tight fast set back in the day. No long intros here, just short, sharp, shock. The sound of the 70’s.
Not all bad.
Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood but the album just kept drifting into the background for me. Not sure when I would be in the mood for this but it’s not Tuesday evening.
Thought it was a bit pretentious tbh. Might be worth another listen but I was left feeling just meh.
Jazz with a capital J. Evokes images of old movies and cartoons, ocean liners and flappers. Music from a golden age, no longer the 20’s but rather the 1920’s.
The marketing hype that went with this album really over shadowed the talent that is John Lydon. Portrayed as trash and talentless, never mind the bollocks is anything but.
Quirky, acoustic Woodstock-esque, but there’s one or two gems in there if you stick with it.
Engineered by the great Thomas Dolby, the sound quality of this album is superb. This is an album of perfection that never tires or grows old. Why can’t all albums be this way?
Probably about as close as you’re going to get to a 13th beatles studio album.
One word, 3 letters, meh.
The sound of the 80's
Hard to find an album that's more 80's white America than this, so if that's your thing you've lucked out with this one.
For me a perfect album has one or 2 tracks that grab you and pull you in. Then the more times you listen the more tracks pull you in until every track is a classic. This is one many albums like that that talking heads produced in their all too short career.
Apple pie and the fourth of July.
An album of excellence. 25 years later (has it really been that long?) and it's still just as fresh as it was in the mid-90's. Not one week track or filler. Albums don't get any better.
Seminal work of excellence.
Kind of like marmite. Only for hard core fans of Tom Waits I think.
Exactly what it says on the tin
Sounds like ambient music you would get in a lift. Just me?
Sounds more like a best of album of showtunes than a seminal album to me. Don't hate me, it's just an opinion.
Meh..

If you're like me and like the rolling stones but not their albums this one is not going to change that. One or 2 tracks are truly the best the stones have to offer but as for the rest, well meh is how they make me feel. 2 stars for 2 good tracks
