Os Mutantes
Os MutantesA surprising find; an classic psych album I had missed and probably dismissed at some point because it wasn't in English. Right up my alley musically. I only wish I could understand the lyrics

A classic for a reason
Not for me. Might be a bit biased as I had a headache. Then again I didn't have it before I started listening to this album so it might have caused it.

Not really my thing. I liked "The Goodbye Look", but pretty bland imo otherwise
Sexy, smooth and not bad. Kind of an iconic title track but the entire album is good
The original power rock album. It feels like the guitar riffs are more complicated than it initially lets on, but ultimately I feel it is a bit over polished.
Will listen to more
Love the sound, and I understand it has influenced rock and roll in more ways than we can imagine. I just wish it wasn't as homogeneous throughout the entire album.
Will listen to again
Not into country but some of the songs were alright
Fantastic funk. Really made my day when I listened to this on my way to work
Great. Had only heard Freebird, but the entire album was good
Not into hip-hop at all and this album didn't make me change my mind. I like the lyrics more than expected, and I like the jazz influences, though
Mixed bag. Some songs are funkylicious and some are meh. Overall pretty good, though.
Uneven but quite good
Alright but kind of forgettable. Best song was a Dylan cover and I probably would enjoy the original more.
Will listen to again
15 year old me would have loved this album.
Most of the album was to me. It feels very 90's but not offensively so
I wanted to hate this, and assumed I would, but from the moment I heard the King Crimson sample I knew it would be difficult.
Pretty good. The kinks cover surprised me in a good way, and another song was likely inspired by Love-Orange skies. At least the intro sounded very similar.
At first I found it repetitive and boring, but some parts were a bit interesting. Not usually into the 80's synth sound, but that was the most interesting part of this album for me.
Absolutely fantastic. The best album by Metallica in my opinion.
Not for me. Parts of the album was interesting but pretty bland to my ears.
Alright. "Cloud Nine" and "Runaway Child, running wild" set my expectations a bit high so I didn't expect the rest to be generic Motown tracks about lost love.
It was alright, but not fantastic. I've probably only heard a few songs from this album before but I probably wouldn't remember them if I had heard them at some point. The majority of the album was quite forgettable. Except the Beatles cover. I'll try in vain to forget that one!
Not my genre but I can tell this is the good shit
Soft and smooth without being uninteresting. Great album, completely new to me
Some great songs and some forgettable. Dirge was the perfect opening to the album, and Aisha surprised me in a good way as well. 'Soul auctioneer' was the only song I actively disliked.
A classic album that gets better with a second listen. It reminds me that I should listen more to Bob Dylan, still haven't listened to the other studio albums at all.
Pretty enjoyable.
Alright, but not fantastic. A few good songs, but unfortunately, the rest are not very interesting.
Feels like a demo tape. Not quite for me, but it at least was interesting.
Uneven but not horrible
Quirky and fun. Will probably not listen again though.
If you listen to recordings from the 30's or 40's she had a beautiful voice but here she sounds like an old lady, even though she was only 42 years old at the time. But I do think the soft and romantic orchestra presents an interesting contrast to her voice and it gives a sense of nostalgia which matches the tone of the lyrics quite well
Some songs were good but maybe the others just need a second listen. Pretty good overall
Interesting at times but ultimately not really for me
Exactly the kind of album I was hoping to discover here. Will listen to it again.
Interesting, and seems like it deserves another listen.
Pleasant, and inoffensive jazz.
Alright. Seems to have been groundbreaking at the time. Over the course of the album I went from "Hell yeah" to "meh" so either it got old fast or the best songs were also the first.
One of my all time favourite albums.
An album that grows on you. It has some great songs and some that are kind of forgettable.
One of my favourite albums
Would never have guessed this was from the 60's. I liked it
Fun and fast paced. Seems like it always develops in a way I would not have expected, and the fretboards must have been smoking when they recorded this. Not overly impressed by the lyrics, but I suppose that isn't the point in this genre.
It's not bad. Had I found this in my teens or early twenties perhaps it could have been an album I remembered with fondness. Now it will probably be forgotten in a week.
A competent mashup for sure. Never really could stand Iggy's way of singing though. Too bad I guess as I probably would have loved this otherwise.
Not bad but all over the place.
She was obviously very talented, and it really shines through the mediocre song writing. Not really for me but I understand why someone would like this album.
Psychedelic proto punk gold. The velvet underground, Stooges and the Doors with a pinch of Captain Beefheart thrown in for good measure. This is what I love about 1001 albums!
Never listened to Radiohead. Quite interesting, but lacks a bit of cohesion. Weak start for me, feels like it just got interesting with the three last songs.
They really did have a great sound. Too bad it was just one sound throughout the entire album, though.
A lot of energy for sure
Only listened to the 8 first tracks as the 4 remaining were part of a reissue and I did not feel like listening to more. Creative guitar work and interesting rhythm but man that is an annoying voice. Might just be cultural dissonance, but I never had a problem with the backup singers. Liked track 6 and 8 more than the rest.
Never listened to Patti Smith for some reason so I had no expectations. This album was a real rollercoaster. I liked the experimental aspects of it, but probably need to listen to it a few more times when I am in a more receptive mood to find out if I could love it.
Funny, but very dated. I expected some misogyny with the age and subject but as it was over an hour long it got too much halfway through.
Poetic and interesting lyrics but have to listen again sometime, as we fell asleep. After the album was over my 10 month old immediately woke up. Will remember this album when he needs to sleep
Not for me
A classic for a reason
Love the psychedelic 60's vibe. In my opinion, it lacks a certain element to be great. Wasn't born to follow, and Tribal gathering stood out as songs that was less thrown together than the rest
That was interesting. Not normally something I would listen to, but something I could listen to again if the mood for German electronic music suddenly strikes me.
It was alright, might listen again to see if it gets better
I have never listened to Bruce Springsteen consciously, and have still heard half of this album already as hits on radio etc. The rest of the songs are just as good, but still don't know if I enjoy listening to his voice very much. Might be worth a second listen!
Good, but a bit cheesy. It's ABBA and didn't expect anything else, but man this album had a lot of hits.
-Oh no, not Bon Jovi! Maybe it will be something different from the hits I've heard?Well shit, all three songs I could think of are there, and it's... not that bad actually. Wish I had listened to this album as a teenager, then maybe it would have had a tiny chance. Feels like something produced by 80's business men, perhaps well made in detail, but lacking any semblance of soul or depth. And that voice gets old fast. Best song of the album: Living on a prayer. Worst: Never say goodbye
Alright but not fantastic
Love it
Not for me. Might be a bit biased as I had a headache. Then again I didn't have it before I started listening to this album so it might have caused it.
Not for me
This album has more variation in styles and genres than most radio stations. Still somehow managed to feel cohesive. While it did not blow me away immediately, I see all the hallmarks of this being an album that grows on you so I'll add a star in advance.
I can only compare it to Piper at the Gates of dawn, in the best way. Experimental, at times whimsical, but the sound design is very cleverly put together. Will probably grow to be a favourite if I let it.
I don't really understand why this is so polarising. To me it sounds alright but I probably won't listen to it very much.
Title track is a classic for a reason. Of course it has been played to a pulp, but that doesn't really detract from its many qualities. But the rest is not interesting enough at all. Ballad after ballad starts to feel like eating sugar cubes; sickly sweet but lacking any contrasting flavour. I mean, it's not technically bad but sometimes uninteresting is worse.
While I normally like when musicians do their own thing, and don't mind sexual themes, this went past fun in the first few songs. After "Giddy Up A Ding Dong" I had to check how long this album was and thankfully only 35 minutes. He couldn't even resist making a song apparently about PTSD after war weirdly sexual. That being said the music itself is not bad at all
She has a great voice, and while I like the jazz and cabaret style influences, I absolutely detest cheesy country music. And cheesy country music it certainly is.
There are so many versions of this album, some (including the original 50s release)are mostly studio recorded. After listening to that I found a complete cd release with the studio and live recordings separated. I liked it so much I will probably listen to it all.
It's alright. Not really into reggae and religious reggae even less, so the first half was disappointing. Since I have not been living under a rock,I have of course heard a few songs already but it isn't really for me.
I'm not usually into the 80's synth rock sound, but this kind of caught my attention. Not great but not bad either.
Never having voluntarily listened to a complete album by U2, I was pleasantly surprised. At its best I can hear a touch of Led Zeppelin in there. 4/5
Great guitar and bass riffs ruined by edgy angsty vocals.
