The Go-BetweensIt's a bit like listening to the Smiths but without having to think about what a piece of shit Morrissey is! I dig it.

The music gods were smiling this morning as they gave me Astral Weeks for album of the day on the morning my daughter was born and this album is perfect for holding your newborn baby...
it's nice when my notes for a 1001 album can be easy like "it's head hunters" It's head hunters.
There are some interesting things happening rhythmically here and the riffs are pretty heavy and fun, but I just can't cope with the vocals. The older I get the more trouble I have with such abrasion. The gutteral shrieks and howls just turn me off.
I somehow went this many years in my life without really listening to Oasis. Or as I like to call them, Poor-Man's Sloan. (or as I like to call Sloan, Canadian Oasis, only better). Anyway, this is fine. Not as good as Sloan or anything, but it's alright. I don't know if it's because it's been a meme now for like 20 years, but Wonderwall is a shitty song. She's Electric is a really good song. Morning Glory may as well be a cover of REM's One I Love
I've probably listened to this the second-most of all zeppelin albums, and for good reason. It's really good. Celebration Day and Gallows Pole are the standouts, and despite it being overplayed for 50 years and its presence in Marvel movies Immigrant Song still rocks pretty hard....
Over the years Shine On and Have a Cigar have only grown in my estimation, though my enthusiasm for Welcome to the Machine has waned. Still, pretty unimpeachable record you got here, Mr. Floyd.
First time really giving Steely Dan a serious look. Some of it is a little bit "adult contemporary, easy listening" for my taste, but much more of it than I expected is pretty good. Monkey in your soul and with a gun were highlights for sure.

This is sort of boring. I like the parts when Jay-Z raps?... I miss when Beyonce was a singer who did good dance music and Austin Powers movies and not this "uber artist cultural force". Prince she ain't. Some tracks are ok, but almost all of them are too long. Jealous is the highlight I think... ok, I was too hasty. This is growing on me a lot... Rocket is really good. Shit. I think I just didn't like Haunted very much. Stream of consciousness reviews up in hurrrrrr
Before this I had never listened to Crowded House except for that hey now HEEEEEY NOOOW song. First observation is how awesome that album cover is. Love it. Chocolate Cake is a pretty fantastic opening track. I am loving the bass tone. It's Only Natural's chorus is less catchy than the verses? but still good. I love the verses. REminds me of Get in Line by BNL Fall at Your Feet - Seriously, maybe it's these headphones? but by god does the bass sound great on this record... Tall Trees - four tracks in and I am 100% sold on this album. This is so great. Weather With You - Harmonies on this track and the drum sounds are outstanding. Whispers and Moans - Some nice synth layers in this The second half of Italian Plastic in particular is just so good. This a really good record!
The track Franz Schubert is what plays when you ascend to heaven
First time listen. This blew me away.
BOY WAS THIS NOT FOR ME. I don't know if purists or fans of the genre would consider this early 90s grunge, but I do, and I hate early 90s grunge. There was one song (second from the last I believe) that was alright, but not alright enough that I'd ever choose to put it on again.
It's a bit like listening to the Smiths but without having to think about what a piece of shit Morrissey is! I dig it.
Ghost should cover "Hells Bells" how awesome would that be... Shoot To Thrill is also a perfect cheesedick rock song. Cheesedick rock was a genre that was so well represented for so long that it's weird that it's mostly extinct nowadays. Anyway, this is a great album that is always fun to listen to. I can't think of a better encapsulation of the merits of cheesedick rock.
I know I've listened to this a few times. The fact that I never bought it during my CD buying heyday doesn't particularly bode well? Something's Happening is a decent song that gets really good when the singing stops and he plays that guitar which is still pretty impressive. There's a bunch of acoustic songs here that are a real snooze. We're here for ONE reason Pete, and that's to hear you make teh guitar talk kinda... Baby, I love Your Way is a shitty song, but I don't hate it because I associate it with that scene in High Fidelity. I like crowd noise on live albums, but I gotta admit, Penny For Your Thoughts woudl be better without some dumbshit going "YOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!" every 15 seconds Another song started and I was about to be liek "jesus, now he's ripping off the Stones!" but then he started singing and it's a cover of Jumpin jack Flash. (not a particularly great one? But it's a pretty great song and the guitar solo is good so it's all good) I was sort of negative leaning going in and many of my comments maybe sound like I didn't like it, but there wasn't anything I outright DISliked and there area few things that I really enjoyed. As stupid and cliche as it is? It's really fuckign awesonme when he makes his guitar go OOOOOOOOOUUUUUUEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHLLLLAAAAAAAAKKKKEEEEEDOOOO
I really like this last hurrah of the bluesy-hard-Rock version of Alice Cooper before he goes full spooky Halloween man. There are definite signs of what's coming next throughout, but the majority of the tracks are still more straightforward rock tunes. AC had a pretty solid streak of great records from School's Out through Go to Hell (with plenty of good shit before and after, but that's streak is unimpeachable). Biggest takeaway from this listen was Sick Things. The noisy cacophany is really great and a real teaser of a lit of what would be on Nightmare.
I don't know what I was expecting, but a weird industrial noise, marching cover of Opus' LIVE IS LIFE with a gnarly, shredding, garage-rock guitar solo in the middle was not what I was expecting. Then, while maybe I SHOULD have expected it I also wasn't expecting track 2 to be a weird, dark, doomy, industrial cover of Queen's ONE VISION. Is this whole album a prank? It's a pretty good one. Then... then they cover Life is Life AGAIN halfway through the album. This is either brilliant or a disaster, but I think it might be brilliant. I'm not certain I will listen to it again any time soon? But that was pretty cool and very different from what I've been listening to lately.
This is good punk rock, uh, music.
This whole thing sounds like a Pierce Brosnan bond movie...
This is a pretty good album, but seems a little overlong at 70 minutes. There's probably a pretty mind-blowing 45 minute album in here that gets a little bogged down with some filler.
This is a really great album, I'm annoyed it took me this long to listen to it.
A Forest is very very good. I just love the bass tone in this record.
I always assumed I loved the Pixies, but it turns out I like the Pixies greatest hits album mostly. The big studio records seemd to have a lot of filler to me the last time I listened to them. (As always I reserve the right to completely 180 any and all of my opinions at whim). This solo album though seems much more my speed. Fiddle Riddle is a highlight for sure.
Only the second-best of the Berlin trilogy... but that's sort of academic when it's only the second best of one of the greatest trilogies of albums ever recorded... I want to stand in a lonely desert with Sense of Doubt playing on the soundtrack...
1992...yep.
Boy this is a boring album. Like... inoffensive soft-pop that very very quickly faded into background at the dentist office pap for me.
Look at these serious lookin' fellas. This has a VERY U2 circa POP vibe. I enjoy that vibe, so that's cool. the songs are not as good as any of those, but not bad. Really like the production in Area 51
I am learning that I like the longer instrumental parts of Sonic youth songs and just do not care for the vocals at all. After a rocky start I settled into this record and ended up liking it a lot. I suspect it and the rest of their work grows on a fella.
Definitely bridges that gap between punk rock and the beginnings of New Wave. It's good shit.
The songs on this that I like I REALLY like. Wave of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Hey
This was so boring.
I literally have no notes. It was fine. I doubt I'd listen to it again on purpose, but there was nothing offensive or remarkable about it.
It's frustrating to hear Rod Stewart solo music after how great his stuff with Faces and Jeff Beck is...
As a rule I'm not a fan of Joni Mitchell. This is no exception, but "Raised on Robbery" is decent. I can objectively see that it's actually a good album, just not my cup
In high school I routinely said Pearl Jam was my most hated band of all time. I was wrong. Pearl Jam are good and this album is very good. I think I just really hated that cover of Last Kiss.
Pretty sure this is my favorite Radiohead album? Which is pretty impressive given how good literally every Radiohead album is.
This is a good record, though SUPER abrasive and unpleasant for the cold november morning I had to listen to it. I just want cocoa and comfort!
Mf doom samples the first track. That was sort of the highlight for me. I do miss the time when big pop diva albums sound like Sega genesis tracks
I mean. It's Zeppelin 1. It's pretty good.
This is good. It's got some YES, some Radiohead, some Chad Vangaalen. Pretty pretty pretttttaaaay good
It's Talking Heads. It's one of 3 consecutive masterpieces. (Though, here's a fun little tidbit about me, it's my least favorite of the 3 consecutive masterpieces!)
The Divine Comedy daring to ask the question: "What if Danny Elfman was boring and shitty?"
Can you imagine how crappy it must feel to have a song that was covered by William Shatner and have that cover be like 900x better than your original?
The first of a trio of masterpieces (and my second-favorite of the bunch). There is not an ounce of fat on this record and not a single disposable track. I would also recommend this as the perfect introduction album for Talking Heads. The Big Country is my favorite track.
I can't imagine a scenario where I'd choose any of these covers over the Dylan originals? But, the rest of the album is fine enough, apart from the cover of "we'll meet again" which is terrrrrrrrible.
This is a good album, but really long.
There is a bass tone in "good shit" that sounds like a cell phone on vibrate and it gave me INSANE anxiety.
This era of indie-rock/pop just annoys me.
You know, this probably isn't bad but... Morrissey is just such a cunt that it's pretty impossible to go into this with an open mind. Fuck off, Morrissey
This has a real early 2000s coldplay/wilco vibe to it. I don't entirely mean that as a diss, but it's not exactly a glowing compliment either. These bands of that era LOVE them some reverb.
Yeah. It's pet sounds. It's good. It's probably overrated in that anything that is routinely called the best album of all time HAS to be overrated? But, yeah. It's good.
Real missed opportunity not to have more reprises of the title track throughout. "Still Gettin' It On", "You Guessed It: Gettin' it On!", "We Stopped Gettin' It On For a Minute To Eat a Protein Bar and Hydrate, But Now We're Gettin' It On Again." etc.
This album is cool as. Kinda makes me want to burn Bob Woodward alive in a Wicker Man tho.
This is a nice album, gotta be in the right mood or it very easily just blends into the background tho
The Zeus in the "greatest live albums of all time" pantheon

I've never quite *gotten* Elvis'status as the GOAT, but this is pretty good stuff.
There are some very dated synth patches on this record. But it's a good listen.
The music gods were smiling this morning as they gave me Astral Weeks for album of the day on the morning my daughter was born and this album is perfect for holding your newborn baby...
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nothing good ever came out of Fort Macleod. California is the only tolerable song on here.
The standards are good, but there's a lot of boring county Elvis shit on here.
it's nice when my notes for a 1001 album can be easy like "it's head hunters" It's head hunters.
Boy, I sure wouldn't open my album with Ennio Morricone. That's a tough act to follow... This version of Fuel(gimmefuegimmefahgimmedabajabaza) is great because it sounds like Jrpg battle music
When I was a little boy the older brother of a friend had this album and so for decades this has been this symbol of cool, evolved, advanced musical taste. It's pretty good. The friend in question listens to mainly country music now, but at the time? He was the barometer of cool music taste. Also introduced me to BNL and Daft Punk
For some reason in my head I always think this album came out in the early 80s or very late 70s, and am always shocked when I see 1973. Bowie was always ahead of his time. Anyway, it's spectacular.
I don't think this has aged as well as some other ELP records, but it's still pretty good.
Mercedes Benz might be the worst song that I love...
