Honestly, I couldn’t wait for this album to be over. It’s faux-indie rock, meticulously engineered to hum politely in the background of a Starbucks.. safe, soft, spineless, weak and completely allergic to risk.
Toothless, overly polished alt-rock. Perfectly listenable, but it never gives you a reason to get excited.
Gritty and moody... I love it. It’s a little uneven overall, but Garden and Strange Town are clear highlights. A solid 3.5 stars on its own, but considering this is the same group that gave us Cherry Red, I’ll bump it up to 4 stars.
War on Drugs lite.. It's fine but really nothing exciting and interesting.
First time listen and this was very good. Bookmarked for future listens.
A few excellent tracks and some genuinely strong bass work, but the album is ultimately weighed down by too many early-’80s adult-contemporary misfires. A 2.5
I love Pink Floyd, and I actually saw them on this tour... the concert itself was phenomenal. That said, I never would have picked this album for the list. Delicate Sound of Thunder is the stronger post-Waters live release, and even that wouldn’t make my cut. This one lands at about a 2.5, at best.
Never got the hype. Some interesting music but overall boring.
The folk tracks were by far the best but those were too few. Blackbird on the Wire, The Sound of North America and the really awful Liar's Bar really sunk this album.
Interesting at first but became really repetitive, but I like the originality and a different concept for this genre.
Mumbling indie pop: all vibes, no hooks, and gets old real fast.
I really enjoyed this one.. the way the album evolves and shifts over its runtime keeps it engaging throughout. Cool stuff.
I absolutely love this album. Heavy Ditch Trilogy era Neil Young vibes all over it. Fantastic pick!
Genre blurring album with one foot planted in metal and the other in hardcore/post-hardcore. Tool’s Undertow and this record arrived at roughly the same time, and both felt like pivotal moments pushing beyond their core scenes and broadening the range of influences they were willing to pull from.
It's some good moments but it's my least favorite Mr Bungle album.
Alt/Indie pop. It's a good listen but just a little boring for my taste. 3.5
The operatic excess is overdone and wears out its welcome quickly. Still, it’s hard to dismiss an album that features “Tie Your Mother Down.”
It's good straight up blues rock album, no complaints on that. I just think his first 3 solo efforts are much better.
Wow, this was so good.. like, seriously good. Everything just works, and I love that they sampled Andy Fraser’s bass line from Mr Big by Free. Killer bass line.
Really good album by Ty. That thick, fuzzy sound is great. It’s an interesting pick from his catalog.. not my first choice, but definitely a solid one.
While this was interesting and I liked the sound, which is creative and unique, listening to a full album of it started to feel repetitive. I probably won’t revisit it, but it was still worth a listen.
Boring bland modern pop..
It’s a decent album, but it lacks the luster of the band’s earlier work. By this point, their creative momentum seemed to be waning, and the music doesn’t quite capture the same energy or innovation that once defined them.
It wasn't bad.. I like the ska influenced songs.
A laid-back album... best enjoyed on a warm summer evening, sitting out on the deck with a few gin and tonics in hand.
I really love this band, and this album in particular stands out. They have a classic sound, yet it still feels new and fresh... if that makes sense.
Perhaps the mood I was in but I really like this. Like a smoother version of Ride.
I was hoping to like like this a lot more than I did. It was ok not great.
Wow brit pop from the 2000's... It's so interesting..
This was really fun straight up punk/rock. One of those albums I was happy to listen to.
One of the more straightforward rock albums by Zappa. Just a fun record to listen. Great pick.
Great pick. This album is a pure two-channel blaster. It’s the kind of record that begs to be played loud, big riffs and punchy drums. Pour a little booze, crank the volume, and let it rip.
I like the darker, heavier mood. I also enjoy the more atmospheric, ambient elements and wish there were more of them.
Pop/Dance is not my style but this has some decent tracks.
What can I say it's a fun album.
It worked as background music, I've heard worse.
I really want to like Savatage more than I do, but as someone who isn’t much of a power metal fan, their sound leans a bit too heavily in that direction. I can only take so much of the grand, theatrical intensity before it starts to wear on me.
That said, there’s undeniably a lot of strong material here. This album like much of their catalog features some very well-crafted songs and ambitious songwriting. Even if the style isn’t entirely my thing, I can still appreciate the musicianship of these guys. 3.5
Cool, let’s remake a ’90s pop-punk album. It’s not terrible everything’s tight, the hooks work, the guitars are crunchy but it also feels like a time capsule nobody bothered to update. Every chorus sounds like it’s been pulled from the same late ’90s Blink-182 album.
Mostly irritating..
Absolute crap.
Absolute masterpiece of modern progressive rock, Steve Wilson is absolutely brilliant. Hard to pick a favorite Porcupine Tree album but this one is the running for sure.
It takes a special talent to ruin classic songs this badly, and this proves it in record time. What’s pitched as a “celebration” of pop history is really just dumpster fire of chopped-up hooks, smashed together with the subtlety of a car crash. Instead of clever mashups, you get a relentless barrage of samples with a thick layer of piss poor rapping..
One of my all time favorite albums. Listen to this over and over in high school never seems get's old.
Sugar sweet pop that sounds like everything else.
Weird, quirky and a bunch of genres toss in. I like it.
Fun album, that pulls form an early 90's sound. I like it.
Poorly executed punk metal. Go listen Strung Out's Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues or Lagwagon's Hoss and see how's done.
Like Wonder Bread. Bland, soft, boring and very white.
80's Spanish Pop. Not bad but seriously a double is way too much.
Heavy ’90s nostalgia on this one... it’s got all the hits, but it’s not their strongest work. 40oz. to Freedom is where they really nailed the blend of their influences and hit their peak.
More spoken word (mumble) than real music. How to do you write the check to record this though?
I have no idea why I didn't hate this.
Standard issue Pop/Emo punk, bland and boring.
Didn't like it when it came out and yeah it didn't age well.
Decent album by an amazing band.. Though there previous albums are much stronger. Still glas to see some BR on the list.
Some fine classic US punk. Not quite the Ramones but then again who is.
Man these guys really ride that line of going too pop very well. Just fun band to listen to. First album is a little stronger.
This soundtrack is good but not as good the as the movie. Amazing group of artists on one record who are sadly all gone now.
Amazing Jazz album that should have been on the list from the first place.
Pretty good indie rock/pop, though for 2017 it's very novel. Still I enjoy it.
Objectively, this album feels like a retread of their previous work and at times, it comes across as a clear homage to Big Star. That said, I have to admit how much I genuinely enjoy it.
It's got that fun new wave late 70's sound. Hard to take mush issue with it but also not getting overly excited either.
Great stuff.. So many indie bands of the 2000s try sounding like those folks.
Great boogie rock album from the 70's, can listen to this all day long.
It’s unfortunate I forgot how good this band is, I had friend who loved these guys. This was a great album to revisit, excellent pick! Probably a 4 but it brought back so great times.. So 5.
Brilliant album.. Major evolution from Undertow into more of the progressive space, they found there sound on this one. Tools fans are the best!
If he was aiming to set a record for how many times you can say “bitch” in one album, mission accomplished. If he was trying to make anything resembling good music, doesn't work. Beats were tolerable.
Beautiful vocals and polished production really stand out here. That said, it can feel a bit tiresome if you’re not in the right mindset.
Ahh no..
I dig the energy not my wheelhouse but was a good listen.
Mastodon first few albums are all good. They breathed new life into a fading genre. Good pick Levithan would have been mine.
A fine Indie rock album, dips some toes in fuzzy rock, folk,alt-country and perhaps a little left punk from his former band. I like it now.
Good listen.. In a year I will forget that I ever listen to it.
Classic dub album here.. Great chill out record.
Yeah this was a monster album back in the 80's. Lotta MTV rotation that's for sure.
Great pick!!! Such an underrated album. It can feel a bit repetitive at times, but I still love it overall. “Me and My Woman” is absolutely fantastic, and it’s the main reason I’m giving this a full five stars.
It was ok, little dumb and got old fast.
I love ’70s prog, but this is the warm-milk, adult-contemporary knockoff. It sounds like an alternate universe where Genesis stayed together and somehow managed to make bland, watered-down ’80s prog instead of pop.
It's good.. It's just not great.
Interesting mix of dance and rock. Not bad.
Never understood the love this band got, not in any way bad or offensive just really boring at times.
Jack Johnson is for soccer moms who find John Mayer too "edgy".
Pretty good, Much better albums in that genre but I like it.
"That Don't Impress Me Much" Yeah pretty much sums up my feeling..
It's MBV with screaming.. Just listen to Loveless instead.
Funk Lite
Good album, I do like me some MMJ..
Like floating on a cloud of pink cotton candy..
Do like me some 70's country but David Allen Coe was always just ok to me.
