Weezer by Weezer

Echoing all the other comments-this isn’t in the original list? Say it ain’t so!

Normally I would mark something down for not being a real “album” but in this case there’s nothing to be done about it. It’s amazing to think that these songs were recorded closer to the Civil War than they were today! Obviously the audio quality on some of them is better than others, but they’re so important to the history of American music. And many people have highlighted the real weakness this list has for jazz albums. I certainly don’t expect that this thing would be littered with jazz, it’s definitely a niche genre at this point, but instead of having 17 PJ Harvey albums they probably could’ve put one album by the singularly most important musician of early recorded music

This is awful boring rock. Was going to go 2 stars till the song Now I’m Everyone which just repeats what sounds like “This is a one” over and over. And so this is!

Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens

To sad to listen to again but its a 5

A1A by Jimmy Buffett
Jun 11 2025

49 years and 10 months-that’s how long it took me to listen to an actual Jimmy Buffet album. It was way more country than I expected. And better. Which is not to say I’d seek this out again, but I didn’t mind it

Kick by INXS
Jun 13 2025

Like many other reviewers I just can’t believe this album isn’t on the original list. They’re really telling me we needed multiple Tim Buckley albums and they didn’t put INXS Kick on there? That’s crazy. This is a great album

Me: “AI- create an album by an imaginary band using the following prompts ‘Imagine if Weezer cover band tried to make something that sounded like Sgt. Peppers. But also make it sound like the band Barenaked Ladies somehow.’” AI: “processing…processing. Done. Please enjoy Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum by Tally Hall” Me (after listening): “It’s not bad but AI has long way to go before it can replace real music”

Act IV: Rebirth In Reprise by The Dear Hunter

When I saw this album pop up, I thought I was getting Deerhunter. This is not as good as that

Pony Express Record by Shudder To Think

One of the first albums on the fan list that I had not heard but genuinely liked. It’s very weird and very 1990s

Tales Of Mystery And Imagination by The Alan Parsons Project

I really do not like progressive rock. And I really did not expect to like this at all, but I really didn’t mind this period especially side one. I’d almost go to four stars but I think I have to stick with three

As a Gen Xer, I have to say I really like this album. It was very very 90s. That manic sort of drawing on all sorts of influences. The ska, The Rock. All of it. I didn’t know this before but this was a great addition

Discosis by Bran Van 3000
Aug 19 2025

I never heard of this. First thing I thought this was some weird Curtis Mayfield sounding cover band. Then I realized it was Curtis Mayfield. This was fun. Not flawless by any means. But I enjoyed it and will check out the rest of their discography

I appreciate that this is something new, but it’s also really boring

Sep 05 2025

I like Pink Floyd. But I hate “The Wall” And this is a really shitty version of the wall. It’s almost incomprehensible to me that so many songs should sound exactly the same. It was just boring

The Shape Of Jazz To Come by Ornette Coleman
Sep 14 2025

A glaring omission from the original list. But hey, there was so much rando electronica that they just had to include. If you are going to title an album “The Shape of Jazz to Come” you’d better deliver. And boy does this

This album was really great. It’s really no small feat to be able to craft lyrics that witty and self-referential without seeming like you’re trying too hard or you’re just kind of an asshole. And they really do it here they thread that threaded that needle. It wasn’t world changing. I’m not going to go with five stars but it was a solid four for me
