Fulfillingness' First Finale
Stevie Wonder1st track: Wish it was a bit more sparse. Needs room to breathe Fun piano parts Bit of slide guitar The song about love fading is very sad :'(
1st track: Wish it was a bit more sparse. Needs room to breathe Fun piano parts Bit of slide guitar The song about love fading is very sad :'(
Good bass Cool guitar lines Don't like the singing much
Loling @ first song much better on the second listen The sound of science was quite good. B-Boy bouillabaisse also good Seems I like the uptempo tracks better than the boom-bap 3.5/5
I think the first song is the best bit of the album passage to bangkok definitely a lowlight
Early thoughts, enjoyed it a lot more than unknown pleasures Very funny lyrics, morrissey singing about how he wishes someone an unhappy birthday is great Bass still very good, but music is less driving than unknown pleasures
Not great One song had a Mars Volta type breakdown which was a highlight track for me but the rest very boring. Like if you took Joy Division/The Smiths and made them have less energy and much less to say
Boring. Takes no risks, not a single memorable melody. Boo
Great. The big song with Kylie Minogue is definitely not the high point. First and second songs are an awesome introduction. O'Malleys Bar is SO GOOD Last song with Kylie Minogue again is not very good. I feel like this is a 4.5 for me but it's definitely not a 5, so just going with the 4.
Pretty bad. The writeup around this album mentions anger at economic conditions and Thatcherite social policy but I'm really not feeling that at all.
Red headed stranger and Bandera are the good songs. This isn't bad. I think maybe it's a 2.5 or 3. Instrumentation is super sparse but the storytelling is good. Apparently was a big deal at the time because all the other country music being made was super produced whereas this stripped everything all the way back. Dunno if it's that interesting to listen to now though. Second reflection: going a 2 because I felt like there were a lot of forgettable songs.
This is great. Starts with a song you've never heard of, but you've definitely heard a million times. The organ sounds amazing, the band is super tight and the guitar tones are great. At first I wasn't a huge fan of the covers, but on second listen they're actually really good. As good as the covers are, they're outshined by the original songs on here (other than rinky dink which I don't care for).
First song is good Fascination is good Feel like the songs are a bit overlong and meander without much purpose
Smooth operator has a great chorus but the rest is pretty meh background music. Second listen I liked it a bit more but still only a 3/5
I feel like the mix is really interesting here. The vocals are super far forward but you can still hear the instrumentation. Cohen's voice is super interesting and the poetry is quite good but it doesn't really hit for me. This guy's dying, but I don't know if I can connect with being as world weary as he is
Quite good. More metallica-esque than I thought it would be, cover art is very death metal. One of the songs made me think I was listening to Power Trip
Pretty fun, not super memorable. 3/5
Like the way the vocals are recorded. The first few tracks were good, don't like break down much though. Black is the colour... is pretty good
Smackwater Jack is pretty fun Feel the Earth Move and Natural Woman are great songs not my kind of music usually but 4 stars for me
Great album. High energy
Classic album, drags a little in the third quarter but I actually liked it more than I remembered liking it previously. 3.5/5
Not feeling it. I see what it's doing but it's not good active listening music, and it's not good background music either. Literally bleeps and bloops
ain't no other man is a great song. The rest not so much
All pretty boring. Clean was a good song. Big meh/10
The intro of Duet Solo Dancers is sampled in the intro track of Cold World - Dedicated To Babies Who Came Feet First Quite good, not amazing but still great
Feel like the guy is barely riding the beat, his flow sucks and the beats are boring as hell. Ok, 'To the Moon's Contractor' is pretty cool. PS2 era chillwave Red Eye to Jupiter is also good. Overall bad but not 1/5 worthy
Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Some pretty good jams on here! Not something I'm gonna return to but very enjoyable for the time
Couple of great track, some stinkers.
Couple of good songs, a bit folksy for my taste. Almost cut my hair had a great bluesy edge and awesome overdriven guitar tone
Enjoyed this a lot. High energy, great vibes, band played their arses off and the crowd were loving it.
Just boring mostly. Not feeling it at all
Decent, interesting lyrics, not really my kinda music though. I like the beats but they're not standout, just chill, good grooves
Liked it, but I think the debut album might be better
First Song sounds exactly like start me up by the rolling stones but it came out 10 years before that! Pretty meh, other than that first song I didn't find a lot to be excited about here
Pretty good, I enjoyed the production and the songs rolled along nicely
Boring af. Absolute yawn fest
Quite fun, really enjoyed it other than the second song which is a real low point haha. Liked it but don't think I'll come back to it soon
This Fiona Apple album has good vibes good vibes and good grooves feels like something my parents would have put on on sunday afternoon at like 5:30 and you listen to it as they cook dinner and the sun goes down
Pinball wizard pretty good One other track was decent as well The rest was a bit boring and I feel like this is a bit overhyped as some visionary album. Maybe it was visionary at the time?
Super fun. Really busy but I liked it
Actually really liked this!!
some good melodies
Nothing super interesting here, there was one song with some great fuzz guitar leads but nothing that's particularly connecting with me
Great heavy blues weird southern rock stuff. Honestly I thought they played the same type of music as GnR and was highly surprised by this
Kind of fun when it has some little freakouts
I have rose-coloured glasses for this album because my parents used to play it at home but gee it's pretentious in places. The bonus song with lyrics by Salman Rushdie slayed me
Really liked it, but the second song could really have done without the vocals haha
Good background music but didn't have anything to grab me
Couple of nice little grooves but mostly pretty boring
This sucks
This was actually phenomenal. So good
Good fun!
This is a vibe. Wish I could give it a 3.5
Great album
Not crazy, some cool songs but I felt like some of the songs could have been shorter, the grooves they were exploring were just not cool. Other songs they could have extended!
Really like how high bass is in the mix. Very reminiscent of the doors IMO. Fun bit with the sax! I like the way it is bluesy but with harder spazzy moments
It's like Jet with more pretension and less kick ass It's Ska Jet Real author age/location bias on this one I reckon
Really enjoyed this, especially the chatting between the musicians before each song. These players are extremely skillful
Not super memorable. Fun storytelling though
I know I'm not wrong is decent Never forget also not bad. But realistically the headline here is how did a band make this album straight after making rumours?? It's REALLY BAD in comparison. Even independently it's not a very good album
Pour some sugar on me was good, a couple other fun songs but mostly meh
Really enjoying Limelight! YYZ was good too, very math-y at the start of course Tom Sawyer is a great song as well The Camera Eye is fun too Vital Signs also good
Meh. 2/5
Nothing really grabbed me on this one
Kinda funky but overall not that exciting
Bit meh. I get the complaints of whininess. very vibes based but not my kinda vibe tbh
Money is a great track. I really like the bluesy jam stuff on here but the random sound collage/clock stuff is not really very compelling
Not very good at all
First song is an absolute banger, as is Take Five
