1001 Albums Summary

Really enjoyed. Cool to hear the influence they must’ve had on the gorillaz. “Right here, right now” was a great song, and great album intro. Set the stage and tone.

Meh. I appreciate the early British ska/punk roots but don’t enjoy actually listening to it. I prefer Joy Division or their peers. Just sounded too much like chaotic noise at times and I found myself zoning out each song. I’d give it two stars for nostalgia but one for actually enjoying it.

Enjoyed it, didn’t love it. I loved Simon & Garfunkel as a young kid, his voice made me nostalgic for those albums.

Love Dolly. Great songs and storytelling. Her voice can resemble a goat or sheep, but I’ll forgive it.

Not a fan of the early 2000s rock sound, example “good fortune” but always here for some female anger and rock. Big Exit is great.

“Mad” and “Don’t wish me well” 👍🏼

Terrific. The first 36 seconds of Sway alone earns a high rating and places this at the top of all albums.

I was excited with “Never let me down again” but quickly got fatigued with the 80s synth melodrama. “Pimpf” and “I want you know”…only ok if picturing Will Ferrell singing in some crazy sketch. Otherwise cringe.

Under the Bridge is a great song. But it is the one that sounds very unique on this album, unlike all the others. With some of these albums it just sounds like a blur, gray noise, and it just becomes background noise and I don't pay attention. This was the first album where I actively thought, a handful of times, Jesus H please turn this off. Sounds like the album of a methed out guy in his early 40s in Venice Beach rocking out while digging through a trashcan. I had fairly high hopes and they were quickly deflated.

Classic. Incredible. 50 years and still hitting all the right shots. Subjectively I enjoy ‘wish you were here’ and ‘the wall’ more, but talk about the definition of what good, groundbreaking music is. I feel fortunate that I heard this album for the first time while also having one of my first exposures to marijuana. No longer a fan of weed, but feel like that was a signature pairing for 15 year old me.

This album is partly why I was looking forward to this 1,001 albums generator, to find new music. Blue Cheer is awesome. Downloaded the album, love it.

He really heard Neil young’s Alabama and said, “I can do that! But make it peppier and with the n word!” I just hear Toy Story.

'Music has the right to children' is an awesome album title.

Overall not my favorite album of his, but David Bowie is absolutely a personal favorite, and the song “Life on Mars?” is one of the greatest songs that’s ever existed.

Compton’s in the muthafucking house. Fuck the police is a forever classic.

Amazing. I’m a better person when listening to this. Existentially at a Havana cafe mid afternoon, smirking at the absurdity of all dramatic emotions.

Reggae compliments dreary Oregon weather all winter long. 400 years is a classic.

Second album I had to skip a song and actively disliked almost every minute.

Da Funk and Around the World would be on the soundtrack of my freshman year of college, and bring back the best of memories. The rest of the album felt like a Rorschach; at first the simple repetitiveness felt like a way to free my mind in the abstract. Then with a crying baby it felt like an endless way to torture me.

Not for me

Enjoyed it more than I thought it would. “Eggs and sausage” raised it from 3 stars to 4, it was that great.

Wonderwall is such a cliche and also awesome.

Was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed listening through. Angsty sure, but my 14 year old self had better taste than I had expected. Wrestled with a 3 or 4 star.

Falls on that short list of perfect albums. It’s tattooed on my psyche. Ancestry.com lists me as 2% ok computer.

I respect her for stuff she’s done, but this music isn’t for me. I went in with an open mind but these lyrics seem childish at best. Also, I thought she was a country music singer at one point?

Sounds like if Charlie and Mac made a band. I was excited to listen and was disappointed. It all felt, flat. Vaguely comical. Not in a good way.

I only listened to the first few songs so I really do need to finish. Prince is one of those artists that people with really great taste love, and I I just don’t get it. This time around I didn’t enjoy what I heard, but this is clearly a me problem.
