My 1st album of 1,001 album generator! 1st song way too long! Liked Candle In the Wind. I’ll try to make it through most of this album. I do enjoy other Elton John songs not on this album.
This was not my favorite album of his.
Only songs I recognized were Blueberry Hill. A lot of the songs on this album weren’t available on Spotify. So I listened to some of his other songs. But still nice to listen to on a Saturday morning.
First time listening? Yes
Was I familiar with the artist/band? No
Had I heard any songs before? No
Did I feel the need to stop listening or skip songs at any point? No this kept my attention the whole time.
Would I listen to this again? Not sure
If I still bought cds, would I want to buy this? Probably not
What was I doing while listening to this album? Relaxing Scrolling social media
Any favorite songs? I liked all of them equally, none really stood out
This was not my favorite album. I will wait for License To Ill to come up in this list.
I really liked this album! I have always liked Like A Rolling Stone, but when listening I also really liked From A Buick 6 and Highway 61 Revisited. I would definitely listen to more of Bob Dylan’s music in the future. I just sat and listened to the album all in one sitting.
Morrissey was a new band for me and I will definitely listen to their other albums, and I could see myself listening to this one again. My standout songs were Everyday Is Like Sunday and Dial- A-Cliché.
As many others have mentioned, I’ve never heard of this band. But it was a quick listen, and I finished it all in one sitting. Not sure if I will come back to it though. Didn’t really have any favorite songs.
I liked this album a lot better than I liked the last album of Neil’s I listened to. This makes me more exciting about listening to his other albums. My 2 favorite songs were After the Goldrush and Birds.
I’m glad other people enjoyed this. However, I did not. The first song drove me nuts and I could not do 18 minute songs. So I listened to a little of each song and I’m ready to move on.
Imagine a Senior Citizen working on this list of 1,001 albums to listen to before you die. This album might give them a heart attack!
I listened to some rap music when I was a teenager 25ish years ago. But I could not make it through this album. It was a bit shocking to see how many people gave this 5 stars, but hey to each their own! I’m ready to move on!
I’ve never really listen to Meat Loaf. I can think of 1 song I know by them. I’m surprised I actually made it through this album. I did skip ahead on a couple songs. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Heaven Can Wait and For Crying Out Loud. Obviously for people who like this genre, it was probably a great album. It just wasn’t the album for me.
I liked this album a lot more than I thought I would. I really wasn’t sure going into the first song. They kind of reminded me of Blondie of The Go Go's. I will check out their albums at some point in the future. Favorite Songs were Falling In Love With Myself Again and Talent Is An Asset. Also worth mentioning is the cover of this album depicts 2 females, so I thought this was a girl band. Upon further research, it’s actually 2 guys. But that didn’t change my opinion of the album.
This was another “New To Me” group. Enjoyable to listen to, and I have followed them on Spotify to listen to their other albums. I also learned from my research they are connected to the band Arctic Monkeys (Alex Turner is the Lead) I will be definitely add The Last Shadow Puppets’ other albums to my list to check out, as well as Arctic Monkeys, and Alex Turner and Miles Kane’s solo work!
This album was LONG. A lot of the songs were long. And I was ready to done with this long before it was over. I ended up skipping through songs on disc 2 because I was just done.
However, I did have 2 Songs I liked: Beautiful Love and This American Lite.
I was hoping I would like this. It wasn’t horrible, it was just ok. There was no song that really stood out to me. But it was nice to listen to while working.
I only recognized the first song of the album. The album was alright, it’s just nothing really stood out to me.
I only know 2 New Order Songs (Blue Monday & Bizarre Love Triangle), neither of which were on this album. But this was still enjoyable to listen to. I will check out some of their earlier albums.
I gave up halfway through this album. I couldn’t even make it through an entire song.
This album just didn’t do it for me.
I’m not gonna force myself to suffer through this album. I heard enough.
Before listening to this album, I was familiar with 3 Pet Shop Boys songs that are pretty popular. I liked this album. I liked the song How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously. Had a good beat!
This was my first ever AC/DC album. It was “just alright”. On to the next one.
4 songs, all at least 15 minutes.
I had never heard of this band before. This was a cool album. A nice touch for my after work scrolling session.
Listened to tracks 1-8. Sort of reminded me of Duran Duran. At least that was the first band that came to mind. I love 80s music but had not heard of this band before, However, I’m more into 80s Pop. On to the next album. I may come back and finish this one, I don’t know.
Listened to the first 4 songs. Want to come back and finish listening later. I’ve heard of them before just not sure if I’ve had any o
It was alright. Not the worst thing to listen to, but I don’t know if I would choose this over something else. I actually listened to the whole album.
I think I only know a handful of songs by The Doors, none of which were on this album. This was good to listen to while I was working.
This was a good album! I want to listen to more U2 albums in the future. I only know a handful of their songs. The only 2 songs I knew from this album were One and Mysterious Ways.
This was a good album. I enjoy Depeche Mode. Most of the songs I know are on a different album. The only songs I knew from this album were Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence.
I have never listened to a Black Sabbath album, and honestly never paid much attention to Ozzy Osborne. But I’m hearing that everyone on this site got a Black Sabbath album today in memory of Ozzy Osborne’s passing. This is one reason this thing is so cool, I never would’ve picked up a Sabbath album otherwise!
My favorite songs on this album were Changes and Cornucopia.
I am somewhat familiar with Marvin Gaye, though the songs I know are not on this album. The only song I knew from this album was Let’s Get It On.
Never heard of this group before. I found it kind of funny that an album with a Parental Advisory sticker would end on a list like this. I imagine that might be a turn-off for some people. But considering I’d never heard of them, I actually didn’t think this album was that bad. A lot of catchy tunes! It kind of reminds me of something I would’ve listen to in my early 20s. Just goes to show that even though you’ve never heard of a band before you can end up liking them! Not sure if I will listen to any of their other albums.
Song that stood out to me: High Fidelity
Was not familiar with this band. Probably wouldn’t willingly listen again. I’m just learning that Metal is not the genre for me. I’m trying to pick at least one song on each album that stands out. On this album it was Fire Fire and Dance. Also this was a 2 disc set. Most of Disc 2 was alternate versions of the songs from Disc 1. I skipped that part.
This album is kind of slow and boring. I don’t feel like it’s very engaging. Kind of like reading a book that starts off slow. I listened to the whole album and my thoughts never changed.
I really liked this album. Favorite songs were Blunderbuss and Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy. I will definitely be checking out his other albums and also The White Stripes, and The Raconteurs, both of which he founded (or helped found)
I really enjoyed this album and will definitely check out her other albums. Especially Joan Baez Vol 2. In reading reviews, it seems like people either love her or hate her. I liked it, even with the shrill voice. I found it relaxing to at the end of the day.
I never thought I’d be listening to Metallica at 8:30AM barely 30 minutes after waking up. Yet here we are.
This was my first ever Metallica album to listen to.
However, heavy metal is not for me. But at least I tried!
I had never listened to Robbie Williams. In doing my research, I was surprised to learn that he was former member of the band Take That. I had one of their albums, when their song Back For Good was popular in 1995/1996.
I enjoyed this album. I could see myself checking out his other albums, and I would also to listen to the other Take That albums.
Songs I liked: Angels, One of God’s Better People, Baby Girl’s Window.
I was familiar with Van Morrison, but had never listened to this album all the way through. I loved it! This would definitely go on my list of classic, timeless albums!! Standout songs (of course ) were Moondance, Crazy Love, and I also liked Glad Tidings.
I was familiar with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young already. I’ve Teach Your Children and Our House many times. But there were also some new songs I hadn’t heard. This was peaceful and relaxing to listen to.
I didn’t think I had heard of this band before, but then I remembered I had heard Love Plus One years ago on a Billboard top hits album.
This album seems a bit long with 17 songs. Most of the songs sounded the same. This album did not keep my interest.
This was pretty mellow compared to other Bruce Springsteen music I’ve heard. But I liked it. My favorite song on this album was My Father’s House.
I love when an album starts off with a strong song!
I am vaguely familiar with Johnny Cash. But I had never heard this album.
I tend not to like live albums, but this one was great! I loved the banter and the announcements from the jail.
It could be that I’m a “mood listener” but I enjoyed this album!
Fun fact: I live about 30ish minutes away from Folsom Prison!
Songs I liked: I Still Miss Someone
Orange Blossom Special (for the Harmonica)
I may have liked this better when I was younger. But I’m not into rap music. I tried to listen to this entire album just so I could say I did. But I was so ready to be done.
While I realize that this was a 5 star album for some, it just wasn’t for me. But I at least made it through the album because the point of this journey is to have exposure to music I wouldn’t otherwise listen to. This was my first Jimi Hendrix and the only song I was vaguely familiar with was Purple Haze.
Not the worst thing I’ve ever listened to but not necessarily my favorite. It was pleasant and relaxing. I’ll give it that.
I was familiar with Genius of Love. Had heard it many times just didn’t know what it was called or who sang it. There were a lot of catchy tunes on this album. I liked Wordy Rappinghood, On,On, On, On, This Is a Foxy World, Bamboo town,
I have to say that their version of Under the Boardwalk was pretty cheesy. It kind of had a Karaoke feel to it. lol
I think I would listen to this album again. I didn’t know until reading other reviews that they are connected to Talking Heads, so I’m anxious to check out their music as well.
I am familiar with some of their newer songs. I am familiar with Give It Away and Under the Bridge. This is my kind of music I will listen to the rest of their discography at some point.
For some reason, this particular album took me awhile to get through. Not sure if it was because of what else was going on or if I was just bored. It could also be because I’m more familiar with their later albums. But I made it through. There were really no standout songs for me on this album.
Not the worst thing I’ve heard, but it wasn’t my favorite. My favorite song on this album was Police and Thieves.
This was my first time ever listening to Elvis Costello. It was a good album…Not enough to add to my liked songs on Spotify or anything. But I am interested to listen to more of his albums, which I see from reviews I will have plenty of opportunities to do so! For some reason my favorite song on this album was 20% Amnesia. I think I liked the beat.
3.5/5
I’m sorry… I tried, I just couldn’t make myself listen to this whole thing. When I saw this album only had 4 songs and was 41 minutes long, I knew I was in trouble. I wasn’t even 30 seconds into track#1, and I knew I would not be able to make it through the entire 15 minutes of that song. NEXT!! It reminded me of music that would be on a computer game. The other 3 songs weren’t much better.
Rating: 1/5
I’ve wanted to listen to this album for a long time. The only song I was familiar with before listening was Hallelujah. I enjoyed this album, and I also see on Spotify there’s an album called Sketches For My Sweetheart, The Drunk. (The album he was working on when he passed away). I will definitely check that out.
Favorite tracks- Hallelujah (of course!) Sadly, there were no other songs that stood out.
Rating: 3.5/5
1,001 Albums to listen to before you die #56
This was a new to me band/Album. Favorite song was Little Shadow. I could see myself checking out their other albums, especially when I need some background music. Nice to listen to while working!
Favorite song- Worried Mind
I put Ray Charles on the list of Classics that you just can’t go wrong with.
I was familiar with other Ray Charles songs not on this album, I had heard Hit the Road Jack and Nighttime Is the Right Time.
I also recognized other songs on this album, that I had heard performed by other artists.
I would definitely listen to this again and hope to hear his other albums someday.
First time ever listening to her, but I definitely like her type of music. I liked the Album more and more as it went on. Didn’t care for the first song or two. I will definitely listen to her other albums! One of my favorite songs from this album was Raised on Robbery.
I was excited to get this album! I am already quite familiar with 2 songs on this album- Babylon and This Year’s Love. Those are my favorite songs from this album.
It was alright, I’m familiar with CCR. I couldn’t make it through the entire 8 minutes of Graveyard train or Keep on Chooglin’ since both were the same beat over and over again. So I moved on. Oh well. I guess my favorite song on this album was Proud Mary.
This was a new to me band. Favorite songw was Glamour Boy. Not sure if I will seek them out to listen to but this was good to have on while doing chores around the house.
I’ve had very little exposure to Jazz music. But this was good to listen to while doomscrolling and playing my games. Would I listen to it again? Probably not? But at 39 minutes long, it was doable. I would’ve rather the songs been shorter and had more of them.
While I’ve heard of them, this was my first time actually listening to Earth, Wind, & Fire. It was a good listen! Liked all the songs, there were none that stood out more than others.
I have heard some of ABBA’s more popular songs before, especially those featured in Mamma Mia, and I even heard a cd by Teen band (A*Teens) with their versions of Abba Songs. This album was enjoyable. Favorite songs were: When All Is Said and Done, Soldiers.
I’m curious how some of these albums make it on this list of 1,001 Albums to listen to before you die. Why THIS album and not another one?
This wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard..I didn’t feel the urge to skip ahead. I guess thats saying something. But I don’t feel the need to listen to this album again.
I bought this CD when I was in 8th grade when Killing Me Softly was released. I also remember at that time I also liked Ready or Not. I don’t remember listening to any of the other songs. I think I listened to Killing Me Softly so much when I first got the album that I got tired of it, and since then whenever it comes on the radio, I end up turning the station. THIS time around, I listened to this all the way through working. I could’ve done without all the skits and I don’t think we need 3 remixes of the same song , making the song appear on this album 4 times in different variations. Not sure if I will need to listen to this album again after today.
Favorite songs: Killing Me Softly , Ready or Not , & No Woman, No Cry
Ratings: 2.5/5
This album grew on me as time went on. I didn’t really have any favorite songs, but I like the way their voice sounds. If they had other albums, I might check them out. But this appears to be a one and done.
