Alice In ChainsGood album love the guitar voice/tone/whatever. Rooster such a banger my stepmom said that would be her walk up song for baseball if she was a pro player.

Had a lot of fun listening. Lots of stuff like the high pitched synths I liked at their low volume. Those synths feel like they’re trying to come off as zany/wacky now like on a Tyler the Creator song, but on this album those kinds of instrumentals are intentionally subtle to not overwhelm and introduce a new style of drum machine and and synthy funk. Awesome guitar solo on whatever song we were talking about in the chat, love why can’t a funk band make a rock song. Hear a lot of influence in newer stuff today, no surprise George Clinton is on Wesley’s Theory on To Pimp A Butterfly.
This album actually made a believer out of me. I’m not super high on this style of singing but eventually it won me over. Enjoyed Adam Raised a Cain, Something in the Night. Makes me feel like I’m in a high school movie in the 70s and I’m about to go to college and break up with my girlfriend and I’m smoking weed after the dance on Something in the Night. I’m listening to this shit right now WELL NOTHING IS FORGOTTEN OR FORGIVENNN
Enjoyed its brevity surprised it released in 1969. There’s actually a lot of variety here, which was something I was concerned about going in. Enjoyed the good golly miss Molly cover, keep on chooglin. Actually I enjoyed the more southern sounding rock songs like penthouse pauper too, I’m a sucker for that genre like allman brothers and that shid
Such a listenable album. So complex and rich, that warm clarinet that comes in in strange meadow lark always hits me like a truck. Take five obviously so iconic it’s industrial, ordered, but also moody and a little sad. Bass line on pick up sticks. Blue rondo a la Turk was apparently influenced by Turkish time signatures. Like this is a perfect album to put someone onto jazz
It was sick this was much more immersive than Are You Experienced, the other Jimi album I have listened to for a long time. That one was much more a collection of a lot of songs, this one is like a Jimi hazy vortex. Ending with the two well known singles is a fun payoff too
Get it right the next time that’s not the sameeeee thingggg
Idk if y’all have ever listened to the cure like their actual albums but they are imo pretty hard to listen to like very atmospheric this album to me kinda sounds like what I wanted to get out of listening to the cure if that makes sense
No notes, some solid rock and roll pop songs
Had a lot of fun with the sonic narrative of the album. It definitely has a kind of story and resolution to it. I enjoyed the not super direct heavy handed blend of pan African music. The soul finish was emotional. For a project that is unapologetically telling the plight of African culture this is something new and refreshing
Gotta keep ‘em separated
I wonder why this is the one they put in the album batch. Yeah it’s an awesome record. Some parts of it feel more out there whereas some moments are just very well written rock songs. Jack White is one of the all time great minds in rock that is for sure. I saw him live and you feel the energy and importance coming from him. Anyways yeah good ass fall album fell in love with This Union Forever he’s singing like the pixies Frank Black on that joint
Really enjoyed it. Sometimes when you listen to an old hip hop album like this you can find things to like about it and sort of appreciate it from afar with the recognition that it sounds dated. This album certainly is indicative of the period but does not feel dated or corny to me at all. In fact I would have to say the flows and lyricism is at times much more modern sounding than NWA. Cool to hear the hip hop tapestry in here, you for source material for MF Doom to Black Eyes Peas. Legit very good album I will be coming back to and pretty easy to see how this was in a sense the beginning of modern hip hop
Thought I wasn’t gonna like it but it won me over with some cool instrumentation and fun lyrics
Really enjoyed, it’s an adventure
Fantastic. Great songwriting, great lyricism, inventive sounds that do not sound dated at ALL imo. So good
Maybe the best drum solo I have ever heard. This is an album that made me a drum appreciator in a way I sometimes fail to do. Cool piece of history, very listenable. While it’s blended traditional African music + American jazz + American funk, there’s parts that feel very Brazilian bossa nova to me
Fun take on jazz with untraditional band instrumentation. This makes me want to listen to more jazz adjacent stuff. Why does Jazz need to be made with the conventional strings and horns instrumentation? To me this is sort of appreciating the musical elements of jazz but changing the sound palette and some of the grooves. Had fun listening
Great album. No surprise why Janis Joplin is a name we all know. She sings like a more psychedelic Robert plant. Very unique voice I like her most when the guitar voices are blown out and she’s really screeching, like on Ball and Chain. That song and catch me daddy probably my favorite.
Clearly very beautiful to me is sounds like Pokémon Diamond and Pearl OST tho. Which one would I rather listen to? Idk did this concert have a giratina?
Kinda falls off for me. Listen to harvest moon by Neil young now that is a banger why is that not on this album
Really enjoyed this. This is like, when new wave is kinda garagey and emo like this I really fw it. Love 2cv, love forest fire, patience
Yes. So good, also so fun to read about how the album was made on an archaic beat pad and sampled things like toys from India. Very creative, love all the percussion. Lot of fun
Some really high highs. And then the stuff that wasn’t a high was pretty mellow/trippy.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to. Crazy this came out the year it came out it is no surprise it has such influence on punk
Again not super my thing. I like the accordions on some of the songs. He has an awesome voice it sounds very well produced. Its good listening music for me to me it’s not an especially cool feat for an album
It’s just not really my thing. Pretty guitar and I do appreciate her singing. Good lyricism too, this is more Kasey musgraves than it is luke combs. Still not really my thing
Didn’t like it as much as the first Janis Joplin album but there were definitely some great moments. Really liked buried alive in blues
Yeah this was cool definitely makes sense to compare it to Tom waits. Really pretty playing
Hm I left for a week I come back and the best album I missed was steely Dan. I wish I could say I was surprised!!!!
I actually didn’t think I was gonna like it and now I’m coming back to it. This album thing has been awesome in filling in my new wave lack of knowledge.
Had never listened to another queen album besides a night at the opera and a day at the races. This is much more straightforward than those, but lots of punchy Brian May guitar was my favorite part
Pretty fun ambient album loved the closing track. Prefer it when it’s less structured
Enjoyed this one. Sounds like a Beatles album kinda. Kinda forgettable might be my only critique. Time of the season is all time
Meh it’s just not really my thing. The album looped and I didn’t realize. I guess it’s pleasant to have on I understand liking it
Now this was fire. Loved that it was a live album. How high the moon, love this version of it. Her little improv was awesome
Heard this a few years ago and like it even more on the relisten. Closer is fire, also love heroin and Venus in furs
Yeah it’s ok. Like this is sometimes how it goes for important songs in the history of EDM, you can tell it was forward thinking but it sounds a little dated. Go by Moby, not on this album is fireeee tho
First prince album ever, what a trip! Play in the sunshine drew me in. Love the ad libing and stuff he’s legit hilarious. It’s not hard to see this type of musical style and personality influencing all sorts of artists, like even Tyler maybe
Very funny slick and cool it makes me want to watch the movie. The instrumentals on the first track especially and then throughout are so slick. It’s like funk that doesn’t sound dated.
So I actually liked doolittle more than surfer Rosa coming into this one. Listening again, I like how off the wall and unhinged this one is. Like broken face, bone machine and the last three tracks as a sort of disjointed medley. Where is my mind also is maybe the best song they have. Good album
Now this is the modern funk hip hop fusion I need. I LOVE how she sings, every song is full of personality. It sounds good today. So happy with it, the closest thing I’ve heard to this is the miseducation of Lauryn hill. I’m not sure which one I like more
Not really for me
Oh yeahhhh I thought this was pretty fun this was my first sabbath album I like how it’s clearly heavy but not overbearing and still is more psychedelic than metal. Enjoyed
Not listening to this right now respectfully
I enjoyed this. Reading about Buck Owens I like that in some ways it’s sounds kinda blue grassy but with no fiddle. Very listenable and the hooks remind me of bluegrass artists like The Dillards
Oh my god man I forgot how fantastic this album is. Lauryn Hill is untouchable. The whole thing is so good there’s not a bad part on the album. You hear them all so well on the mix I love all the rapping and Ms Lauryn Hill can sing rap and do it all. Fantastic
Thoughts posted in group chat. I always forget how banging this album is. Obvious bangers on here, babe I’m gonna leave you is one of my all time favorites, that’s some classic Zeppelin Jimmy Page picking. Love the bluesy your time is gonna come. Very good
Yeah what else can be said. Fantastic album. Sometimes I stray into the weirder proggy Pink Floyd but as a concept album this narratively fits so well. I love the great gig in the sky, brain damage. Honestly if anything I probably don’t like Money as much as everything else just bc I’ve heard it so much. Great album
Wow this was a hip hop oddysey. Or maybe a gauntlet is more like it. I did not expect all the tasteful instrumentation in the back half. Beastie boys exist in a comic book universe somewhat like doom and wu tang but seem sort of besides the point about it. They exist in that world while doom and wu tang joke about it and make it very prominent. This album is soooo new york
Yeah I enjoyed it I don’t have a lot of thoughtful commentary to add. Just really like the sounds, like how it ends
This was fantastic I put my thoughts in the group chat. I love Peter hook on this album, very tasteful use of bass and synths.
Enjoyed. Some of the longer pieces I wasn’t crazy about but always enjoyed his singing style and the sound of the strings, which I like about all these grungy bands.
What is there to be said it sounds like demon days unpolished nonconept big brother. Very good
One of the best live albums I’ve heard because of the banter and historical context. Johnny commanded the room
You know what I thought it weirdly sounded jazzy and steely Dan esque and confirmed by researching steely Dan’s influences that Joni Mitchell was an influence. Unique artist at the intersection of folk Americana and jazz. This one was good I’ll be listening to here more
It’s cool. I get it. I wouldn’t listen again.
Reminds me of gorillaz actually. Enjoyed
This album is fucking awesome it sounds like modern post punk music or whatever tf black country new road is. Yeah just so weird awesome I have been relistening soooo much
Listenable, sounds great and is not cheesy for its time. Listened several times
This one is weird. The production is sooo good. A lot of these beats if they were spruced up could be fun throwback beats for today. But yeah ice cube isn’t flowing like THE BEST on here but he sounds very good. He says a lot of like, very overtly anti woman shit. Which yeah is like, that happens in hip hop. But this is very direct and vendetta ish. But then he brings on yoyo to almost dismiss the misogyny. So idk. Very good tho
Good sound. Starts out really solid then kinda declines. Enjoyable synth pop album
This is realllyyyy good. Wow. Love the thom Yorke song. Love how her guitar sounds and when they bring the baritone out.
At first I was like breh not another new wave cure type album. But then it gets so melodrama I started to love it. I never knew you’d get marrieddddd. Perfect
I was like nah I don’t want to listen to this heavy album at first. Then I was like wait this kinda like a heavier more punky American football album. Yeah so I liked the screaming loved the math guitar elements. Liked when it was kinda lofi. Banger
Loved it. Reminds me of flaming lips in some way. A true concept album that knows how to have fun while not taking itself too seriously. Solid pallet of instrumentation. A theatrical singing style that doesn’t get old.
It’s good. I probably won’t relisten
I don’t really want to list all my thoughts on the mf white album. Just call me if you want to talk about it
