Bayou Country
Creedence Clearwater RevivalEveryone loves CCR, well everyone loves John Fogerty.
Everyone loves CCR, well everyone loves John Fogerty.
Understand why some think it's too samey, but to me there was enough variation going on in the background to keep my attention throughout. It's also just fun to listen to.
Solid 4 - Vibes were good, liked that there was some variety outside of the standard punk array.
Knew most of the songs on the album beforehand, but just solid and fun across the board.
Is Bob Dylan another one of those artists that I just had to be there for to really get it? This album starts off strong, but by the end it came off as a bunch of barely incoherent rambling.
Solid 90s rock, but I'm adding Courtney Love to the list of "rockstars I've heard older people rave about, but I don't get the appeal of."
Some decent beats in here, but some embarrassing rapping. I understand why some people hate on this generation of rap now. Utterly astounded this came out the year after Straight Outta Compton.
Pleasantly surprised by this one. Wish more of the album sounded like those first few bigger arrangements. The "white guy that thinks he's clever and has an acoustic stringed instrument" sections lose me, but those orchestral/big band moments are so good. Almost a 4.
Nothing offensive, but also pretty forgettable. For people who did like this, from my high school memories the other album is better.
Damn this is weird and long, and a bit unsettling in a not good way. Pinball Wizard makes it a 3.
Vibes and music are all immaculate, what more could you need
Strong 3 - First half has more ups and downs, second half was more consistently good but also forgettable in parts
Backing band was great, but man I do not like Morisson.
Might not musically be my favorite thing we've done so far, but something about this is just entertaining to listen to.
Loved the heavy bits in this, some of the softer bits lost me momentarily but pretty solid overall
90's edge has not aged well. There are a few really good songs on here, but most of it is forgetful and edgy for the sake of being edgy.
Would have liked a lot more if the dirge had been split up and interspersed between other tracks in the album. An otherwise solid album with a 10 minute egg splattered right in the middle of it.
Liked the vibes here, fun listening to the backing beats build and hearing the songs get put together.
Didn't think Steely Dan would be contested as my favorite album anytime soon. Hearing the live performance and the crowd really made listening to this great, on top of B.B. King being just fantastic.
Lowkey forgot how much of a "singles band" Green Day are, but it's American Idiot. An album that was a key part of the childhood for pretty much anyone born in the 90s for a reason.
Can see how it was groundbreaking way back when, but ultimately didn't do a whole lot for me. Didn't hate it, there were a few moments I liked, but that's about it honestly.
First time I'm saying this, but I actually wish this album was longer. A lot of good ideas here that couldn't really get their full development on an album of mostly ~2 minute songs. Would be a 7/10 if I could do that.
Solid short little album. Was a cool surprise when the "classic song that everyone knows" showed up as the last track.
Being shorter and tighter makes this a better album than American Idiot, in my opinion.
My feelings about this album are complicated. It's maybe the most popular metal album of all time, an accolade that isn't entirely undeserved. However, pretty much every metalhead has listened to this album, hell half of it still gets played on the radio from time to time, and knows how important it is, but has also found something they like better than Metallica.
Not entirely sure how to rate this? Can take it or leave it musically, a pretty standard "parts I liked, parts I didn't" thing. But to be honest the lyrics and story told by them makes me want to give it either a 1 or 5 and I can't tell which. The stages of realization of what's actually happening made my jaw drop better than any show or movie have in a long time.
Liked the way that having two different voices let them almost capture two different vibes in songs, such a long album needs the variety. The female led songs packed a punch that a band like Hole lacks in my opinion, and the male led songs were able to go into an almost metal direction that I was a fan of.
An absolutely fantastic modern rock album. I had heard of Julian Casablancas before but never actually listened to the band. First thing I've liked enough so far to make me actually want to seek out the band's other work.
Kinda surprised I'm only giving this a 3. Having so many compilation albums released after his death kinda spoils the point of his actual albums. Like if you wanna listen to Biggie, it just kinda makes sense to pull up Life After Death.
Good funk and rock spread throughout. Really enjoyed this one, almost a 5.
Almost a 4. Not always my musical taste, but there's some really cool parts in here. Sledgehammer has kind of been a meme in other friend groups I've been in (watch the music video for a ridiculous good time), but it's a good song.
There were parts of it I really liked, but most of it didn't rise above average background music to me. Maybe it's because this bad has a reputation of being more artsy and weird than I thought this was.
I was into it when it started, but I think a whole album of whatever you call this type of beat was kind of wearing on me by the time I got to the end.
I thought the B 52s were 60s diner type music. Subversive and punky in a fun way, almost a 4.
A fun little album to listen to, though I have never been more convinced life sucked in the old days.
There's some killer guitar and key parts in here, but then they get hijacked by organs. Like why?
One sound that is alright, I guess, repeated for an entire album. This kind of punk music seems like something I could be into, bit kinda disappoints me whenever I actually listen to it.
Was a huge fan of the first half of this album. Funky and cool beats with some nice instrumental stuff going on. Kinda lost the magic in the last few songs, but only enough so to keep it from being a 5.
One of the greatest rock albums of all time. Maybe not my personal favorite, but the best album thats come up for us so far.
There's almost some shredding going on here, I dig it. Still don't know how they get away with almost sounding like two distinct bands on the same album, but it works for them.
90s rap is almost objectively the coolest kind of music.
It's good, but this album has a reputation of being one of those that will make your soul leave your body, and it didn't do all that for me.
Best metal album of all time? It's up there for sure.
Voodoo Chile is fire, but it loses me at the end, especially the Merman track.
Didn't know anything about them before listening to the album. I dig it
Bono has a voice for silent film in the same way I have a face for radio, but the rest was good enough that I liked this way more than I thought I would. Almost a 4.
I mean, it's Led Zeppelin. Still personally prefer 2 and 4.
Some banger main menu music.
Nice, if a little basic, beats and bars and hype to listen to. 90s rap remains cooler than the music you like.
Can't tell if I liked this or Exodus more, either way it's great easy listening music.
Having a little more energy than Closer makes this a significantly better listening experience in my opinion. Almost a 5.
Didn't really "get" Sepultura until this listen, but this rocked. Loved the sort of tribal inspired moments, and of course there's some nasty grooves here.
There's some good parts in here I guess, but their later work is so much better.
Much more cohesive and in my opinion better than Electric Ladyland, this was a fantastic listen.
Really enjoyed it. Had enough energy to keep me engaged throughout unlike other albums in similar genres/sounds.
Non-singles were even better than I thought they would be. Banger from cover to cover.
Everyone loves CCR, well everyone loves John Fogerty.
This album might have my top 3 favorite Slipknot songs on it but man do I not see whatever I saw in Slipknot when I was a kid anymore. Drums are still incredible though.
The first half is a drag, but once the bangers in the second half start showing up all is fun and well.
A Rush album without any of their long epics is kinda missing some of the experience IMO, still a fantastic album. Almost a 5.
What a nice album. May everyone's favorite stoner grandpa live for 1001 years.
The high points are really high but the low points are really low. I was definitely expecting to like RHCP more.
I must have had Jane's Addiction confused for another band or something, that was a lot of fun. Liked it even better than the songs I remember hearing on the radio. Almost a 5.
I really liked this one. Punky but enough depth to keep me engaged throughout, almost a 4.
Liked the other R.E.M album more. Didn't hate this, but Green had an energy this album lacks in my opinion.
Didn't like it as much as Purple Rain, but that's a pretty high bar to clear. Almost a 4.
WON'T YOU FLYYYYYY HIGH FREE BIRD
MGMT's another one of those pop adjacent groups that everyone swears is great but I just don't see what's special about them. Barely a 3.
Not quite as good as their first, but still damn good. Fun from beginning to end. The only thing stopping me from giving it a 5 straight away is "multiple 5s from the same artist" for the first time being a really high bar, but I thought about it.
I was worried when the first track was some stomp clap white people shit, but by the end it had won me over. There's some great southern gospel rock here.
Nothing offensive, but there's just not enough here to really enjoy in the modern day. I'm kind of astounded that music had made such a big jump even between now and the 70s.
Beautiful music that doesn't really go anywhere? Nothing really to complain about but nothing that I really liked either.
