Nothing too catchy here. It's not a bad album but not something I would intentionally play.
Other than Money, there isn't a single song I would purposely pick out to play for myself, or anyone else, for that matter.
The start of the rhythms reminded me of Passion Pit’s album, Manners, but the songs never hit a thematic high like Manners did. I never bothered to really listen to what the lyrics were, because the beats didn’t make me care. I did like the final song, Sprawl II, and I put it on repeat. They should ditch the lead singer and put the girl on wax.
It was like trying to drink a can of bad tasting beer. You’ll get through it eventually. Hard to believe Downtown Train turned into the version it is today. After reading Waits’ bio, I would have rather been assigned his earlier stuff.
Pleasant surprise of an album after never hearing of this singer before. Real good voice, rhythm, and lyrics. It’s not my genre of music at all. A few songs shorter and I could maybe listen to this one again.
Picture a young up-and-coming talented producer hanging out with a young Dave Chapelle, and this is what you get. This was a very unique sound for hip hop at the time, and a lot of veterans and newcomers tried to copycat. I have often wondered if this album changed the sound of hip hop today, and morphed into mumble rap; taking Kanye’s slower pace, but not learning from his beat producing or lyrics. This album helped push veterans to do better, and brought us a few good years of T.I., Young Jeezy, Bun B and Pimp C, OutKast, Lil Wayne, Talib Kweli, etc. Not every song on here is a must-listen, but standouts for me are We Don’t Care, Slow Jamz, Two Words, and Through the Wire.
Meh. Let me take this time to recommend Technotronic’s Pump Up The Jam album.
Very forgetful. Not a single song stood out. Not my type of jams.
Good for easy listening. Always fun when you recognize beats that have been resampled.
If I put myself in this era, this wouldn't be a Compact Disc I would purchase.
I'm assuming a Brit created this 1001 list. How in the world is this even in the top 10,000 to listen to? I'd have rather listened to Cold Slither on repeat for 24 hours.
If I had played this on an old record player in my grandparents’ basement, I would have thought this came from their generation.
Other than a few misses, it’s a solid album. Played it twice today!
Good for background noise by nothing really stood out.
Good sounds, clear sound, just not something I would repeatedly play.
Very talented and entertaining, after a while though all of the songs seems to run together.
Uhhhh, uh huhh uhhuhh. Heh, ya, heheh heh, heh. Uhhhhh, this sucks. Huh, huh uuhuuhh, huhuh.
I tried a couple of times to get through this album but I couldn’t do it.
Good stuff, some repeated beats. Easy going.
Good stuff!
I didn’t catch much of the lyrics but all the songs had a good mix of sounds, and were a little catchy.
If I want to fall asleep to an album, I might pick this one.
I remember buying this CD on its release. This is probably the best j5 album. Verbal Gunslinger is a great single as well. J5 always brings solid albums. Chali 2na’s voice is mesmerizing, and passing the mic around helps not make it too repetitive. 4 1/2 stars.
Never really gave Jethro a good listen before. Surprised at how good it was. 3 1/2 stars.
Pretty solid album. Some misses but overall has good vibes.
Unpopular opinion, but Axl's voice gets quite annoying after a couple of songs. Not a big fan.
I started tuning it out after the first couple of songs. Did not keep me interested.
Sounded like American Idol amateur hour. Holy crap was the singing awful.
Having seen Method Man live twice, this guy brings the most energy to any concert I've been to. It's been a while since I've listened to this album, and I forgot how good it was from start to finish. If I were to introduce someone to Method Man today, I'd play the Method Man & Redman collab album, The Blackout.
Entertaining to listen to, but nothing I would play again for fun.
Nope, not for me.
Quite different and odd for the era, did not really enjoy it though.
I could not have picked out a Led Zeppelin song before listening to this. I am now a fan. This was good.
Meh, I’m sure it was entertaining back in the day.
Every note is easily predictable, yet it’s still ok to listen to.
Tried a couple of time to get into this one but I couldn't. It's not bad but not something that peaks my interest.
Easy listening but nothing to get too excited over.
It was decent but again, not quite my genre of music.
Not much to say about this one.
I enjoyed this. Good beats, nice to have in the background. I recognized a couple of songs. It's repetitive, but I might play this sometime again.
Shake Ya Rump is 5 stars, everything else is 2.
Car Wheels On A Gravel Road = Nails On A Chalkboard
For an album that's quite out of date, it's pretty good to listen to.
I've never heard a bad Bob Marley album
It felt like I was stuck on hold with a health insurance company for 45 minutes.
I listened to this one twice. Enjoyed it. Never heard of them before.
I couldn’t get past her voice. Didn’t enjoy her style very much.
Super funky!
Nothing I would play again.
I played this while in the car and I was close to falling asleep. Nothing too catchy here.
I could not get through this one. A lot of skipping through parts of songs. Definitely not my type of music.
Never gave Soundgarden a big listen before. Pretty impressed. Solid 3.8 stars.
Some of the most boring uses of electronic keyboards ever on these songs. Key factor as to why a lot of early '80s songs are a miss for me.
A few sleepers on here that I never listened to much but it has a couple of my favorites. There will never be another artist as big as Michael Jackson was.
This guy will never be popular enough to play on pop radio.
I've listened to the When Hell Freezes Over a few times before, and I would recommend that album over this one. The live version of songs helps them sound even better for whatever reason.
A little too slow for my tastes. Good for easy listening I guess.
The instrumentals in the music wasn't bad, but I really couldn't understand a word they were saying. Really tough to hear the lyrics.
Pretty easy-going and listening album. I could see myself listening to this again. You would think that Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" wouldn't need to be remixed only 3 years after the original. Warren G's version is prettty good though!
Very interesting to read about the history between "Not Paid Enough" and "Paid in Full," - learned something new today. The beats are solid throughout.
F***in awful.
Nothing too special here. A lot of songs sounded repetitive.
I could't get into this at all. I thought the vocals sounded awful and off-key throughout the majority of the album.
I didn't really care for this one. Nothing catchy.
It's not bad, but I don't understand why this would be anywhere in the top 1000, let alone several others we have listened to. I realize everyone has different tastes but many of these seem to be nothing too special, or groundbreaking. Anyone can make a list.
I can see the appeal but it's not in my wheelhouse.
Another fail. If I lived in this, I don't see why this would be an album I would have picked up.
Pretty solid but not something I would play again.
This was the first time listening to this whole album. It seemed to have a different Beatles vibe than I was used to, and it was pretty good.
This had the sound of a soundtrack for an N64 or PS1 racing game throughout the album. I felt like I had to clear a bunch of checkpoints during my hour long drive home. Why this is on a list of top 1001 albums is beyond me.
I can see the popularity, and it's not a bad album. I've heard a few of these hits on pop radio, and I was surprised that this album is 20 years old. It's worth a listen.
I enjoyed some of the beats and songs on here, having never heard of this band before. I might replay it at some point.
Good album, good music, good tunes, good band.
Good for some background music.
One hour long drive home, and Dylan’s voice never got any better. It was difficult to tell the songs apart from each other. I don’t think he would make it to top ten in American Idol today.
I got to the middle of Track #2, and I'm not going to put myself through anymore horror. The creator of this list should rethink what makes a top 1001 album to listen to.
Longest album ever. Okay stuff.
I don't know if this album is good, or if it's just a relief from most of the garbage on this list. I could see this being popular on release, but by todays standards, it seems pretty far from a top album. Will not listen to this again.
This should have been a single, with Track 1 on the A-Side, and Track 7 on the B-Side. I thought this would be pretty good after the first track, but yet again, British pop disappointment began to run through my veins. With a band name like Massive Attack, I'm expecting some hard-hitting s***. This was not that.
I tried to listen to this a few times. Can't get all the way through it.
No thank you.
Okay.
I remember listening to this album after it came out, and a few times since, and I was never really sold on it. Wyclef's production is always just kind of... meh. Lauryn Hill was the star of this album, her going solo was the best decision she ever made. Lots of one stars on here, with a few 4 or 5s, and I never heard of anyone that loves listening to skits over and over again.
I might rather listen to squirting bottles of ketchup.
I’d rate this 3.6 stars. The beats and sounds are great, just wished some of the lyrics and singing hit a little harder. I gave this a couple of listens and might check out other songs of theirs.
The lyrics are entertaining, and impressive that he created this at his age, but all of that does not make me want to listen to it again.
I never cared much for Bruce Springsteen, but this album is decent. I remember my brother owning this tape when we were kids. Solid listen, and music videos, just not quite my cup of tea.
Unique, not bad, not something I would seek out again.
Some nice tunes here. Never heard of this album or artist. It's not 90s hip hop so I won't listen to it again.
Full of soul and good tunes.
