The Wildest!
Louis PrimaWhen I first saw that Louis Prima was the artist I thought this is great! he wrote sing sing sing. This album is trite. I’m glad it was only 42 minutes.

I’ve heard this 100 times. It may be the greatest of all time
Another giant.
South African jazz . A few nice tunes. Probably 4 out of the ten are good. Some filler (77 minutes is long). Better than I expected. 4 stars
My first thought is “this is going to be interesting.” Then I read other commenters' comments (while trying to find files to listen to) and expected Ascension-level chaos. I was surprised how Zorn stayed faithful to OC's original intentions. Not my cup of tea, but Zorn deserves credit.
Another album I have, considered Basie’s best just not my cup of tea
Iberian accordion music over rock-beat vamps. Not objectionable. The improvisations are pretty good. Low key vibes. Better than I expected
Again I have heard this 100 times. 5 stars
Another of my favorites. 5 stars
Brazilian jazz rock with vocals. Meh. Portuguese is a beautiful language but I don’t care for vocals. Music is trite but well-played trite. I had to hear this before I die? Three stars
1001 times already. A giant. Astrud ‘s vocals are perfection. 5 stars
Ahh. Finally! One the albums I needed to listen to. Frequently mentioned as one of the good ones. Big band isn’t my thing, but this album was recorded just as post-bop was becoming a thing. Well done for what it is. 4 stars
Another Brazilian vocals album that I had to listen to before I died. Not unpleasant. Tries to sound like Mom, which is not a bad thing. 3 stars
That’s an hour of my life that I will never get back. One star
Music. I have never heard before. I am glad I listened. The click song and the lion sleeps tonight prototype were interesting two stars.
Something I never would have sought out on my own. The second piece was pretty good. Vocals are ridiculous. Two stars
Big band blues with vocals. Not my thing. But this is a seminal album and it is well-done. Three stars
I can say two things: I am glad I can say that I listened to it and That’s 45 minutes I’m never getting back. Music was ok. Musicians were not very talented. The lyrics were insipid. GSH is a poet, he should have found someone to sing for him and musicians to play for him. This was a vanity project. 1 star
Listened to this several hundred times 5 stars
Another favorite from 40 years ago. Highly produced and commercial, every song is memorable 5 stars
This looked interesting. I like MN’s work with Pat Metheny and Wayne Shorter. This has its moments. His voice is good as an instrument. The musicianship is not polished, though. The presence of Lilia elevates this to four stars.
Congas and timbales. This type of music usually bores me. This one did too. Good musicians though. Vocals are stupid 2 stars
I haven’t listened to this since 1981. It was hard to get into then. The album is the fountainhead of jazz players. People say this was an early fusion album but I think it carries the avant-garde along the way. Three stars
I have not heard this since 1975 or so. I didn’t think much of it then. Upon relistening, my opinion holds. One of SD’s worst. Certainly behind Aja, Countdown, Thrill, Scam. Charlie Freak was my favorite then. Still is. I detected the different nods to jazz throughout that I wasn’t familiar with at age 18. Two stars.
Maybe Monk’s breakthrough album. I wish they’d tuned the piano! 4 stars
Tango? Piazzolla? I had my doubts, then I saw Gary Burton and thought “this may be interesting “. It was very good. The tango rhythm was ok but the instrument mix and the musicianship saved the day. 4 stars
I think it’s Mingus’s best, better than Ah Um. Daring and sophisticated. A big cohesive statement that mixes musical styles. 5 stars
I remember seeing this album in my Dad’s collection but I never listened to it. It was pretty good. Sinatra had a terrific voice and the musicians are first-rate on this release, although they didn’t get to stretch out much. 4stars
Maybe the best jazz album ever 10 stars
I only knew one song by Dr. John. Right Place Wrong Time is how I remember it. Trying for a mystique, but missing. Weak musicians and poor vocals. one star
I played the Theme in high school. Loved it. Hadn’t heard the rest of the album. It is a movie score - not expected to be 75 minutes of high level stuff. I’m not a fan of strings and vocals. Two stars
My Dad had this one, too. This one is pretty thin. Great voice but none of the songs are memorable. Two stars because of Frank’s voice
My friend has this CD. We never listened to it though. It is all of the same palate. Boring after the first tumbao or so. Is it historically significant? One star
Dusty Springfield? Pop. She has a nice voice. Not enough material for a double album- stretched thin. One star
Not my cup of tea. Best songs were when she was doing scat and not singing one star.
I’d heard Back before but not the rest of the album. I don’t usually like organ music but Stanley Turrentine carries the record. Better than expected 4stars
Who? That’s why I have never heard of him. First album at 23 - ok. Hard to break into the music industry. One star
Funny, I just listened to the first 5 Soft Machine albums four days ago. This is number 1 or 2 among them. 4 songs on 4 sides. I think Robert Wyatt was a member- I swear I heard King Crimson in the first track. 3 stars for stretching the material a little thin.
My favorite SD album. 5 stars
I’ve seen this album a lot. It’s in almost every collection of for-sale CDs on Facebook, but I haven’t heard it- maybe a song or two that I didn’t realize was hers. I will face down my prejudice to Jazz vocals and listen. Here’s my impression: not Jazz! Lightweight pop, some country. Nice voice two stars
Sounds like a bunch of songs that didn’t make earlier albums. I love Steely Dan, so it gets another star. Two stars
It was ok until she started singing. Yikes! One star
Impeccably produced. Wonderful melodies. 5 stars
Great album! 5 stars
I have not listened to much Sarah Vaughan. Nice voice These are not great song selections though 3 stars
Very commercial. Good musicians. A little insipid. Jazz Crusader stuff is better. 3 stars
This will be interesting. Only 28 minutes? Same lovely vibratoless voice. Songs are a bit thin. However foolish heart and the one with her daughter were very good. Three stars for 28 minutes
Her next to last album recorded. The last one released in her lifetime. Well past her prime- she sounds very sick. 😞 2 stars
I have not heard this album before. Nina is dynamic singer. This may be good. After listening: her voice is unusual and striking. The lyrics were melodramatic (maybe that's why I don't like jazz vocals). The songs are uneven. With the right material, I'm sure she adds much to the song; just not on this album very often... 2 Stars
Never heard of this artist. The cover disturbs me. After listening: a couple good songs. Hip hop and rap are not my style 2 Stars
What? Never heard of them Too bad there are lyrics and vocals; some of the music is pretty good One star
Awesome 5 stars
Now I have to clean out my speakers- very sticky music 1 star
I couldn’t listen to all of it ( was this a quintuple album?). But, Ella has a wonderful voice and there was little degradation for the recordings). Four stars
Treacle 1 star
I am a big HH fan. His early stuff (Maiden Voyage and Empyrean Isles) are all-time favorites. After his avant garde period he descended into fusion. HH is the best of that period 4 Stars
Not bad. I love Jobim. Sinatra’s treatment is pretty good. I was surprised to find out that he was very much attuned to the sound of a performance, as demonstrated by the last studio recording complete with commentary. 4 stars
Finally! A jazz album that I really should listen to! After listening: it’s not on Apple Music!! I found the title track on YouTube. I like South African jazz. 4 stars
Much better than I thought it would be! 3 star
