I don't get it. Mediocre riffs, average vocals, run-of-the-mill lyrics. Painfully mid. Sole highlight is them kinda clowning on the NYPD.
Class all the way through. Fire beats, mad bars, good production. It's actually insane how influential this album is when you think about it, practically all of modern rap descends from this one album.
Very weird album. Not musically, but consistency-wise. It starts real bad: Seven Nation Army is an awful, awful song besides the riff, which is admittedly really good. Next couple songs are pretty good, then after those it just becomes really mid and indistinguisable.
I enjoyed it overall, but probs won't listen to this album nor the White Stripes again by choice.
Quite a hidden gem this. Good production, good musicianship, I assume good lyrics (language barrier yknow), good vibes.
Songhoy Blues, I wasn't familiar with your game.
Aight so everyone obviously knows Mr Brightside. It's a banger. Everyone that denies that is a fool. What I didn't expext is that this album is full of songs that also kinda go bang.
Very hit or miss album, I liked Break On Through, Soul Kitchen and Light My Fire. The rest were forgettable. Gets an extra half a star for ending the album with "This is the end" tho.
Takes massive cojones to show up, play exactly one of your hits, disregard the whole purpose of this thing (seriously just count how many times Kurt's guitar has an effect applied on it) and rule so hard that MTV spends years trying to capture the magic again, only to utterly fail.
It's hard to pick a highlight, almost the whole album could be one really. If I really had to pick, I'd go with Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam, Pennyroyal Tea, and of course The Man Who Sold The World.
This was quite nice. I doubt I'll listen to them again, but this was really enjoyable. Nothing incredible, or excellent about it to me, just really solid and fun music.
I was pleasantly surprised by this, all my other experiences with this genre have been baaically "background music". Highlight has gotta be that Watergate song at the end.
Yeah this was not good. Reading up his background you'd think there'd be something interesting in this album, but there's just isn't.
A couple orchestral moments are nice tho, gotta give it that. Also it's short, that's another bonus.
A very, very strong 4. I really like how they're not limiting themselves to just one sound, but keep on experimenting and messing with different genres, styles etc. My one real problem us that I feel like the guitar was too low in the mix sometimes, but I can live with that. Fave song's probably Spanish Bombs.
Also unlike a certain other famed English punk band, The Clash are actually talented and not just a group of total hacks.
This wasn't quite as bad aa I thought it would be. Side A actually has some good and decent songs on it, not that any od them are remarkable. Side B is a mess however. Didn't really enjoy this.
I remain convinced that jazz functions perfectly well, great even!, as background music and totally fails when "actively" listened to. This is the case here, this would be cool in a bar when you're hanging out. On its own, it's got precious little going for it.
The songs feel like they have no structure so you never know where you are. Is it still the same song? Are you 20 minutes into the album? Who knows, certainly not me.
I did not need to listen to this before I die. It's mixed like shit, the lyrics suck, there aren't any cool or interesting riffs and at least half the songs sound exactly the goddamn same. What's to like here dawg.
Shoutout to the last third of No Way Out for being one of the worst pieces of music I've heard in a long while.
This was quite good tbh. I liked how it mixed in social commentary and politics into the music. Speaking of politics, its namesake, Marcus Garvey has one of the wildest ideologies I've ever seen. Gets an extra half a star for that alone.
One thing I didn't like is that the mixing seemed kinda bad in some places, but that's not a major issue here.
This is Eminem at his peak, none of the immaturity of the Slim Shady LP, none of the lyrical miracleism of his recent stuff, just a really solid and well done record with very few faults.
Falls off a lil bit around The Real Slim Shady, but comes back extremely hard after the skit.
My faves in no particular order: Stan, Kim, Bitch Please, Amityville.
I'm convinced The Who are the most overrated band in rock history. This album really ain't it. Like, REALLY ain't it.
Lemme put it this way, if you're even semi-halfway into rock, you've heard the title of Pinball Wizard. It's one of those big, inescapable titles in rock history. I somehow managed to not listen to it til now. And the song sucks.
That's basically The Who's entire discography, a big name hiding what is subpar music.
This was alright. Might be a tad too long, but it's not a major issue. Best song on it is It Makes No Difference Now.
I went into this expecting good music and I was not disappointed. I dunno how common this view is, but Speakerboxxx is noticeably better to me than The Love Below, altho the latter has Hey Ya which is clearly the best track on either album.
Might be a smidge too long and I could do without most of the skits and interludes, but a very very good album (or albums) in general.
This is basically the epitome of a jazz album: songs without structure, riffs and motifs that go nowhere, just full improv. Passable.
It's decent I guess, but much like 90+% of jazz, it shouls be relegated to being just background music and nothing more.
Feel like this probably hit harder back when it was first released. Still a good album mind you, just not as powerful as it originally was.
Gets an imaginary extra point for going to a prison and singing the inmates songs about being locked up, the death penalty and the long arm of the law. Very funny situation tbh
These slow jams and ballads really ain't doing it for me. It's not bad, just sorta meh. Pretty damn good voice tho.
An awful album by a disgusting freak. Edgy for the sake of edgyness, 0 artistic merit anywhere.
A really solid album, but quite far from their best. Not much else to say about this one, it's a good record, no more no less
Just pure dogshit all the way thru. Late 70s British musical scene was a fuckin hellhole I swear, there's a literal handful of good things to come out of it, stuff like Iron Maiden or Motorhead etc. The rest is just a sludge of shitty punk and even worse post-punk.
Weird album, it's decent but it's only got like 3 memorable tracks. Also feel like a couple songs overstay their welcome, cutting a minute-ish off of their runtime would've def improved some of them.
Thoroughly mediocre and forgettable. The title track is decent but also massively overrated. The rest is just a 100% unremarkable collection of songs.
If this is supposed to be the Stones at their best, boy do I don't wanna hear their worst. Don't get mw wrong, I like the Stones overall, but my enjoyment us mostly limited to a select few songs cause I never really listened to them consistently.
And if this album is any indication then that will probably continue. It's just decent and nothing more.
I quite likes this, but the alhum kinda falls off after the first two tracks. If the rest were as good as those two, and if I didn't have to cobble together this album from like 3 different sources, this would've been an easy 4.
This wasn't a record I expected to struggle with. And yet, it took me 4 tries to get through this album. It's painfully bland in the absolute worst way possible. After every song I thought "why am I listening to this, there's countless thousands of better records out there".
One star for the lack of *anything* noteworthy artistically.
Lennon's gotta be one of the prime examples of the fake deep artist. "Imagine no possessions" says the dude swimming in money.
The album itself, once you look past Lennon's shitty philosophising, is very forgettable. Sole highlights are the title track which is decen enough and Jealous Guy which was sampled in a far superior Pusha T track.
I really enjoyed this. Electric Feel and Kids are naturally the highlights of the album, but the other songs are quite good too. A solid 4.
Just not very good is it. Post-punk in general is quite awful, these ones are at least musically competent so it's not an outright assault on your hearing. Don't make it good tho.
Gets an extra half a star for Psycho Killer verging on being decent.
Largely forgettable mid music. Works fine as background music. Shoutout to the last track for the Oppenheimer samples.
A really good and fun album all the way through. It's hard to choose a personal fave, it's probably I'll Stick Around but I could pick about 4 other songs too.
Wild to think that Dave Grohl recorded this all by himself. I'm feeling a strong 4 for this project.
Bit of a strange case in the sense that while I enjoyed this overall, I don't think I like their songwriting. Not for a whole album at least. It just gets too samey yknow.
3 and a quarter stars.
I said MAYBEEEEEEEE
Class album from start to finish, not much else to be said here.
You're gonna be the one that saves MEEEEE
This is objectively an awful album. Like real fuckin bad, pure dogshit level. The production is shit, it's a solid 15-20 minutes too long, Fred Durst is a wack vocalist and an even worse lyricist etc. Honestly I could go on for quite a bit. The one saving grace is that the riffs are sometimes pretty decent.
But.
BUT.
It's such a fuckin stupid album all the way through that it actually becomes really entertaining and funny. Like, it totally fails at everything it sets out to do but, by sheer luck, Limp Bizkit fluked their way into this album not being a chore to listen to.
This was not very good at all. I'm sure that for a certain subsection of English people like this music, but it's a pain to listen to for everyone else.
I'm feeling a light 2 on this.
I enjoyed this but nothing really stood out to me, apart from Changes, so I really can't give this anything more than a 3.
I could tolerate an hour and twenty minutes of a jam band if the jam was good. This is not good however.
I saw that the 2014 (or 15 or whatever) rerelease of this bum is 6 hours long. Anyone who'd willingly listen to this for 6 hours needs their hard drive checked ASAP.
You won't regret it if you put this album on. Won't pat yourself on the back either mind you. It's just a bit of a meh album overall.
This started off with a bang and slowly got weaker and weaker. Still a fun listen tho, I really liked the Irish/Celtic folk inspirations even though most of the band are basically just cosplaying lol
This is quite a strong 4. The lyrics, the riffs, the energy etc. all make this album a really good listen.
Shoutout to War? for mentioning the Seljuks, that's definitely a bit of a historical deep cut.
Quite and interesting album. It's easily one of the most political albums I've listened to so far in this list, but the fact that the lyrics range from that topic to Richey Edwards' eating disorders without a drop in quality is a real testament to the musicianship.
I don't quite get RHCP I guess. Apart from Under The Bridge and maaaaybe Give It Away, I didn't really like any of the songs. Also it's honestly too long of an album, if you'd cut about 20-25 minutes off it, you'd get a more cohesive record.
This is kinda mid.
This is kinda miiiiid.
This is nothing special.
This is kinda mid.
This is just the absolute worst of 80s schlock. Garbage all the way through with a literal handful of half-decent moments. Do not listen to this, ever.
Never listened to much of Rod Stewart so I went into this kinda blind. And I'm quite surprised at this album, it's pretty good. Might be a tad generous but I'm feeling a light 4 on this album. I can always appreciate when an album just radiates energy and vibes.
Also Ros Stewart has a really interesting singing voice.
I'd say this record is painfully bland, but sadly I cannot do that because Cars Are Cars exists. "Cars are cars all over the world". Indeed.
I can see why someone would like this, but to me it wasn't a very enjoyable listen. The lyrics were good, really good even, but the actual music itself was kinda boring.
Not a fan overall, but it wasn't bad either.
A pretty fun album, but this genre just doesn't really grab me for whatever reason. Fave track was "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing"
This is a very strong 4. I think it's a *bit* overrated in the sense that apart from the "big" songs like Breaking The Law or Living After Midnight, the songs are simply just good and nothing more, but it is still a very fun listen.
Feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading all these 5 star reviews. Did we listen to the same album? Cause this was just pure torture. Not a single redeemable thing to be found in this album, everything just suuuuucks.
A very meh album overall. Not surprising it wasn't a hit anywhere but the Netherlands. Tears Of Rage is the best song on by far, and that's to be expected since it's a Dylan song. The rest? Forgettable.
Thoroughly forgettable, I have 0 intention of ever listening to Nilsson again.
A really energetic and fun record which was a really nice breath of fresh air after the past couple borefests that I got recently. It's really easy to see how this band became a cultural phenomenon.
Could do without the Nazi references tho.
Not 100% certain what to think of this album (or this band). They sound good for the most part, lyrics are good, production is good as well. There's just something missing for me.
She has a great voice without a shadow of a doubt, but this just isn't for me.
Was nice to hear the song Jay-Z sampled for The Story of OJ tho.
This is a bit hard for me to rate all things considered. It feels maybe a bit too long, you could easily knock some 20-25 minutes off thebackend and lose nothing. But despite that I also didn't really mind the length, it never started to feel sluggish. I also appreciated the energy they brought, Lord knows this list is lacking in that.
A 3 I guess. I liked the riffs, Sulfur and Psychosocial are pure bangers, but the second half is mostly just alright.
Much like all jazz, this is background music
A slog to get through, I really, really, *really* don't like RHCP as a whole.
Rather unremarkable, but I didn't mind listening to this. Just a solid 3.
Boring as all hell, I dunno what people see in this band.
It's alright, got some nice beats and grooves here, but it didn't really grab me or anything like that. Really interesting backstory on this album tho
Weird album, I really liked the energy, the riffs, the whole vibes but the mixing was kinda dogshit. Still an enjoyable listen, but I doubt that I'll go back to this much on my own.
A very strong 4 for me, the production is great, musically it's excellent. I just wish it didn't start and end with the two best songs on the record, it unintentionally overshadows the rest of the album.
