Sigur RósI really liked this. The ambient portions of the overall sound make me want to replay Disco Elysium.
I really liked this. The ambient portions of the overall sound make me want to replay Disco Elysium.
I'm not a fan of live albums, but this one is still solid. It sounds like it would have been a blast to have been there. Duke and the orchestra are absolute monsters! Favorite tracks: - Black and Tan Fantasy - Tea for Two - Take the "A" Train - Festival Suite (Festival Junction, Blues to Be There, Newport Up) - Sophisticated Lady - Day In, Day Out - Diminuendo In Blue - I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good) - Jeep's Blues - Tulip or Turnip - Skin Deep - Mood Indigo So, all of them. All killer, no filler!
I'm not a diehard Stones fan, so it's just "fine" for me. Favorite tracks: - Gimme Shelter - You Can't Always Get What You Want
I'm a very instrumentation-forward listener. I can recognize that this album is great, but I have a lot of trouble processing the lyrics in real-time when it comes to great artists like Leonard Cohen or Bob Dylan. That said, the instrumentation is very nice and cozy, but this is a very lyrics-forward album, which isn't my cup of tea, per se. I would be very fine with this as background music, but I'm not getting a ton out of it. Favorite tracks: - Suzanne - The Stranger Song - So Long, Marianne
Love EWF! Favorite Songs: All of them!
Easy listening. Again, I'm not lyrics-forward as a listener, but the music is good. The lyrics I did catch were still painfully relevant now as they were in 1988, and were still quite thought-provoking. Favorite tracks: - Fast Car - Mountains O' Things - Why?
A great time! Makes me want a pint! Favorite tracks: - If I Should Fall from Grace with God - Turkish Song of the Damned - Bottle of Smoke - Fiesta - Worms - The Battle March Medley - Shanne Bradley - Sketches of Spain - South Australia
I will quickly acknowledge that I have no awareness of Bollywood or Indian music at all. This is an interesting listen, but it doesn't resonate with me at all. Even so, this is a great example of why I'm doing 1001 albums in the first place - I'm interested in expanding my interests, even if the generator doesn't always hit. With all that said, I'm probably never going to listen to this again, and I'm probably not going to track down the film to watch it. Favorite tracks: - Baby Let's Dance Together - Romantic Theme
A certified classic. Favorite Tracks: - Push It Along - Luck of Lucien - After Hours - Footprints - I Left My Wallet in El Segundo - Bonita Applebum - Can I Kick It? - Youthful Expression - Rhythm - Mr. Muhammad - Ham 'N' Eggs - Go Ahead in the Rain - Description of a Fool
80's New Wave/Synth-Pop/Disco Rock/Whatever this is is a guilty pleasure of mine, minus the \"guilty\" part. This album is RAD. Favorite Tracks: - All of them!
Groovy. Favorite Tracks: - She Has Funny Cars - Somebody to Love - 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds - D. C. B. A.-25 - Embryonic Journey - White Rabbit - Go to Her
Lovely little album. Nice and cozy. Favorite tracks: All of them, but The Girl from Ipanema is definitely the favorite favorite
It's ok, but I'm not terribly into this sound. I don't know a lot about this band, but judging that it came out in 1990, I have probably fallen into love with works that were heavily influenced by it, but I can't really get into this album directly. It's... very drone-y. Favorite tracks: - Dirty Boots - Kool Thing - Mote
Good sound. Great album! Favorite songs: - All of them
It's fine. Favorite songs: - Momma Miss America - Maybe I'm Amazed
I have been vaguely aware of Soundgarden, but I didn't realize this is where several radio standards came from. Really liked this album! Favorite Tracks: - Let Me Drown - My Wave - Fell on Black Days - Superunknown - Black Hole Sun - Spoonman - The Day I Tried to Live - Kickstand
AC/DC is unfortunately one of those overplayed bands for me. I'm sure the album is an important one, but I'm just... so tired of AC/DC. Also, I mean this in the highest respect. Brian Johnson sounds like Animal's cousin. I love the Muppets, so that's a compliment! Favorite Tracks: - Guess. I probably like them, but I'm not in any rush to play them again.
I like it. Favorite tracks: - Play For Today - A Forest - M - Seventeen Seconds
It's fine. Favorite tracks: - Badlands - Adam Raised a Cain - Racing in the Street
Beastie Boys are always a fun time. I don't necessarily have a favorite song, but I love their sound. Favorite tracks: - Shake Your Rump - Johnny Ryall - Egg Man - The Sounds of Science - Hey Ladies - Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun - Shadrach
I'm always down for hip-hop. Favorite tracks: - The whole album is a banger
I like the sound. Favorite tracks: - Hey Ya! - The rest are pretty good too, I like the vibe.
Masterpiece. Favorite tracks: All of them
It's OK. Good background noise, but I wasn't really enraptured by it. Favorite tracks: - Movin' on Up - Slip Inside This House - Higher Than the Sun
Love me some Outkast! The generator recommended Speakerboxxx/The Love Below a few days ago - I can appreciate the difference with this earlier album. Great stuff! Favorite tracks: - Gasoline Dreams - So Fresh, So Clean - Ms. Jackson - Spaghetti Junction - B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad - Humble Mumble - Gangsta Sh*t - Slum Beautiful - Stankonia
I'm not sure what it is with Sinatra and me. Is he overplayed? Is he overhyped? Do I only hear him in movies and weddings? I digress. He's fine. It's fine. I don't "get" Sinatra, I didn't shake his hand, I'm uncultured, whatever. He does make me want to play Fallout again, so props, I guess? Favorite Tracks: Half of them, but the other half don't offend me.
It's fine. It came, it went, it had no impact on me. Middle of the road it is.
It's good, but didn't really stick with me.
I like the sound! I'm willing to bet that the stuff I enjoyed growing up were influenced by stuff like Drive Like Jehu. Favorite Tracks: - Here Come the Rome Plows - Golden Brown - Luau - Super Unison - Human Interest - Sinews - Hand over Fist - Bullet Train to Vegas
It's fine background noise.
Good ol' time. Favorite Tracks: All of them!
LOVE ME SOME CARS. Favorite Tracks: - Good Times Roll - Just What I Needed - Don't Cha Stop - You're All I've Got Tonight - Bye Bye Love - Moving in Stereo 5/5
I've never listened to Björk before. Well, now I have. This isn't for me. I can spare a point because I can tell it's for someone, and it was done well for them.
Good stuff.
ELO is always a good time.
Classic album
Nice, easy listen.
Let's get the "artist is a garbage human being" portion out of the way first. I do not follow Marilyn Manson's intimate details, but I know enough to know that the creepy guy persona wasn't a persona. Gross. On to the "separating the art from the artist" portion. I like the overall sound, but I hate the lyrical delivery. I just don't dig the theatrical-melocidal thing going on here. Thankfully, Nine Inch Nails has me covered. Then there's the lyrical content. I can't get past the "edgy kid trying to be edgy", and the N-word dropped in the first song didn't help (I grasp the context, I just don't care). I'm sure this was groundbreaking at the time, but now I can only think of THE EDGINESS. The worst thing about the edginess is that it's dull. I'm not offended, I'm bored, which is worse. I followed this up with The Downward Spiral to get the bad taste of this album out. Liked Tracks: - The Beautiful People - Tourniquet
It's fine.
I really liked this. The ambient portions of the overall sound make me want to replay Disco Elysium.
I only know reggae by way of Bob Marley, but it's so good.
Nice easy listening. I want some diner coffee now, and I can't explain why.
Great stuff.
I tend to like Night at the Opera more, but Queen II is still a classic.
Oh, the old familiar places... This was recommended on a particularly stressful day, so that's just serendipity. I love the drums, love the growls. The lyrics (and occasional "boo-hoo-ha-ha" laughs) are very "edgy high-schooler". Funny aside - When I listen to Slipknot, I can't shake a "Six Flags Fright Fest" vibe for some reason. Favorite Tracks: - (sic) - Eyeless - Wait and Bleed - Surfacing - Spit It Out - Purity - Liberate - Prosthetics - No Life - Diluted - Only One - Scissors - Eeyore - Me Inside - Get This 4/5
Pretty good.
Sounds like a great night!
Meh, I do not like listening to the rambly man. 3/5
I think I'm figuring out that folk isn't quite my thing.
This is pretty good. I can hear a lot of the sounds I really enjoy in 80s pop starting to form here.
A bit too high-frequency with the beeps and boops. I say that as a chiptune fan.
Perfection.
Meh.
Groovy.
Makes me feel like cigarettes and coffee, and I don't even smoke.
I have to be in the mood to handle country, but the older it is, it's probably more tolerable for me. But hang on, didn't the Byrds do rock? Either way, still a great album.
Eh, it's fine.
Eh, fine.
Good stuff.
I still do not like listening to the rambly man.
Love this. 80s synth pop is a weakness of mine.
Nice and mellow.
I really dig the moody vibe throughout the album.
Classic.
It's fine.
5/4
Groovy and funky.
Super fun!
I love the Depeche Mode sound. There was a synth that reminded me of DOOM 1, which is an extra bonus! 4/5
I'm entering my Dad rock phase for giving this 5 stars. Oh well, off to grill something, I guess.
Fun sound. Favorite tracks: - I'd Like to Know - Caught By the Fuzz - Mansize Rooster - Alright - Lose It - Lenny - Strange Ones - Sitting Up Straight - Time
Now I want to play Quake again.
Motörhead is one of the all-time greats, and for good reason! Thanks for the awesome ride, Lemmy.
One thing this album has going for me is that it reminded me of one of my favorite song mashups of all time. Check out Neil Cicierega - Mullet with Butterfly Wings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRdSoZO-5mM Aside from that, it's fine.
Just lovely.
