A Rush Of Blood To The Head

Awesome awesome sound to this record. Way more into it than I expected. Side A is some elite stuff, side b not so much but it’s still a fun time. 7/10!?
Iommi is a monster and absolutely makes this album. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to hear this one but great album !!!
solid stuff, unfamiliar with the hits/singles but I liked most of em. they've got a cool ass sound and the sheer 90sness of it all adds to the charm a lot but in some places is a bit obnoxious imo. overlong as well imo. great voice tho with some good tracks. Probably won’t rly return to this though. 6/10
Not really my thing and I’ve never been a fan of girls just want to have fun. First track was my fav. Her voice is impressive and some of the instrumentation is fun but there's much better 80s pop imo. I’ll kiss you is also like insanely annoying lol
This has been one of my favorite albums of all time for years. Completely changed my music taste in 2019. Disorder, day of the lords, insight, new dawn fades, she's lost control, shadowplay, and interzone are my favorites on here. A highly innovate, influential, impeccable sounding, dark, masterfully written work of art.
Not a fan of this really. Cheesy and not in a charming way, vocals range from decent Lennon impression to real bad. The stretch from when do I->dearest->lion in water was pretty awful. There are some neat ideas here tho and the first track is quite nice. Musically probably should give it 2 stars but I’m dropping it to 1 because I really don’t understand why this album is in the 1001. It isn’t remarkable, influential, or super culturally relevant plus there’s already another early Bee Gees album included (Odessa, which I haven’t listened to but have heard is better) 3/10
I liked this so much !!! Hadn’t heard of Joan before this listen and I enjoyed the vast majority of tracks. Her voice is wonderful and she’s a super skilled songwriter. All the influences on here made it a fun listen. 7.5/10
cool, beautiful, noisy sounds but most of the songs kind of wash over me. Loveless is a great album but I've never been as into it as many others and this one certainly pales in comparison to loveless. Great late night vibes but not something I see myself coming back to very often. ~6/10
Took a bit of adjusting since I barely listen to metal but overall I enjoyed this album. I adore Brazilian music so the elements of it on this album were awesome and really cool getting to hear them blended with metal. The vocals aren't my cuppa tea but I got used to them. Probably could be like 15-20 minutes shorter tbh. Fav tracks were roots bloody roots, Ratamahatta, and attitude. 6.5/10
The Police have always been a band I thought were good but not great and this album is the same imo. Some great tracks like message in a bottle, bring on the night, and the beds too big without you tho. Super impressive instrumentation on here as always for this band. 6.5/10
Blues music is great and BB is one of the masters. Haven’t heard enough of his discography to say if this is a true highlight for him but it’s a great album. The emotive vocals, sparse but effective guitar, and an electric crowd all are awesome. First four tracks + help the poor are my favs. Definitely get the complaint that it’s too samey sounding though, especially on side b.
Imagine in 2010 a bunch of white British 20 year old dudes made an album of covers and attempted replications of like 90s gangsta rap (which they clearly have no ability to truly relate to) and did absolutely nothing to change the style besides using more modern recording/beat-making tech. That's pretty much what this is to the blues. Aside from the fact that you should just listen to real groundbreaking (and more talented) black blues performers (muddy waters, howlin wolf, Mississippi John hurt, bb king, delta blues guys like Robert Johnson, blind willie Johnson/mctell, and more) , Hideaway does fucking rule and is probably the only track I've heard where I kinda understand the praise for Clapton. Steppin out and the guitar solo at the end of of have you heard are also pretty good. 5/10, its objectively not bad but just kinda pointless to me.
I mean I love beatlesy 60s pop and this is a damn good 60s pop album with a lil dose of psych and folk thrown in. Super pleasant listen with no real skip tracks imo. Didn’t know David Crosby was the byrds guitarist so that’s pretty sick. Fav songs : Have you seen her face, do you want to be a rock n roll star, everybody’s been burned, thoughts and words, why
So this album is amazing but you knew that already 👍
Jimi was probably one of the most talented people who ever lived. This album, while long and less cohesive than his other two albums is a masterwork of psych, blues and sound that is as fresh and incredible today as it was in 68.
Solid album with a really cool sound but nothing that really made me go WOAHHH. Some good tracks tho and cool to hear something besides come on Eileen by these guys.
I fucking love Latin music. This album is so groovy and fun to dance/vibe to!! Hell yeah! Would be a great one to have on vinyl. Nothing with a big Wow factor but like that doesn’t rly matter to me with this sort of music. Good shit
I mean it’s a stone cold classic Bob album with some of his best songs (masters of war, don’t think twice, blowin in the wind, girl from the north country, Corrina Corrina). I love bobs acoustic side so much dude. Unfortunately the bluesier cuts on here are kinda missed for me which brings it to a 4 instead of 5. Great classic album.
Kinda went in this ready to hate on it for somreason but nah it's a pretty great album. An all over the place (mostly for the best), good, fun album that really epitomizes what made the 90s alt scene weird, cool, and a littleeeee lame (mostly endearingly) at times. Also somehow never realized the cover was a dog until now. 7, would be an 8 if beck rapping didnt rly annoy me lol
I mean this is an objectively insanely good live performance that I enjoyed listening to. Hard rock aint my thing so I won't be returning to it much butttt damn good I cannot lie!!!
The 3 big songs on here are fucking great and perfect, known that for years. The rest of the album never did much for me but on this listen it’s grown on me a bit! Fucked with vicious, I’m so free, and hangin round. Rest of it sounded better than I remembered for the most part too.
There’s a few good tracks like 13 steps lead down, this is hell, and Londonshire brilliant parade. Overall tho it’s mostly just ok and I don’t rly get why it’s on the 1001 especially since there’s a few other more acclaimed (and prob better though I haven’t heard them yet) albums by Costello on here.
Good angst 90s rock album I don’t rly hear the soul thing people say about this at all 7/10
Like a totally solid indie/blues rock album that I wouldn’t ever turn off if I hear it on the radio. But there were no big highlights for me, it’s really samey, and kinda reeks of 2010s commercial indie music lol. 5/10
Good album but they gave better 7/10
American despair that completely captivates you in its stories and mood. It’s not something I’m gonna come back to much but I have a ton of respect for it. First Springsteen album and I know it’s very very different from his norm.
great Neil young album, amazing title track
A stone cold fucking classic that cemented Nirvana as one of the greatest bands of all time and not just a cultural phenomenon. Such an intense album. Huge respects to the band for releasing this emotional rollercoaster of a record in the middle of being the most popular band on the planet. Super strong 9/10.
surprisingly good stuff but overlong and indulgent 7/10
awesome, eerie new wave album way too Low rating here
I mean this Is great shit, James sounds good and the orchestra is awesome but holy shit its too long for what it is. Live this must've been amazing though. 7/10
Look it’s not that bad but like nothing here stands out, the vibes are super fucking right wing lame, and his voice ain’t that great. The accordion is cool and there’s a couple nice songs. 3/10 I really can’t decide on 1 or 3 stars but the bad taste of “I sang Dixie” and knowing the people I know who’d like it is helping me make my choice
Totally solid but you really only need to hear the title track. 5/10 as an album, good background tunes tho. Booker T Jones is a living legend though.
Really good stuff
Totally solid and better than I personally like it (I have a weird bias against these guys I’m not rly sure why lol). I adore don’t look back in anger. Wonderwall used to really annoy me but it’s grown on me some ngl !!
I see how Harvey’s bizarro delivery was a big influence on Nick Cave but the style here didn’t excite me and none of the songs were very memorable.
It’s good stuff but not that outstanding to me! Yukihiro Takahashi’s solo stuff does a super similar thing but is just consistently better
2.5, not bad but I won’t come back to it
Actually awesome shit 9/10
I mean it’s just be disingenuous to not give a 5 to this.
Good album with some great highlights (BEETLEBUM!!!!) but not as consistently good as a couple of their other albums
Maybe the greatest funk album ever
