Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Apr 15 2025

Just not for me. I get the artistry, the solos are sick, production dialed in. Can't quite get past the vocals and the subject matter I guess. I'm all for agressive music, i listen to a ton of it. It's just that this specific album is seemingly all sex lust and violence towards women as objects, which is a turnoff for me personally and doesn't make any of these an anthem for me. had no idea about their history and the loss of the lead singer

Van Halen by Van Halen
Apr 16 2025

Not a big cock rock fan, but liked the blues influence. Maybe being a little harsh because I've gotten a few 70s-80s metal bands in a row. Drums here are insane. Pretty wild for a debut album.

This one is so deeply tied to my childhood. My dad played it all the time. It has a real cinematic feel (duh), and in general I'm just a huge sucker for concept albums.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
May 06 2025

New to me. Absolutely divine. Very ahead of its time.

The Rise & Fall by Madness
May 07 2025

Incredible. Never write off a ska band I guess! Amazing to hear the influences on so many bands I care about. Completely unknown to me, had to listen on Youtube because it wasnt on Spotify.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
May 08 2025

Amazing. Feels like it really has a finger on the pulse of the time. Fun to hear a ton of these songs in context.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
May 09 2025

Still trying to get into jazz, but this was really incredible

Garbage by Garbage
May 13 2025

Want to like it, but it feels insanely dated to my ears.

Boston by Boston
May 14 2025

Amazing. I had no idea Scholz was such a badass. Love the idea of creating the perfect rock band, one "with crystal-clear vocals and bone-crunching guitars"

Parallel Lines by Blondie
May 20 2025

So much more punk than I realized.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
May 21 2025

Wanted to like this one more

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
May 28 2025

Honestly, an album that can no longer be made, but an important and brave one in my opinion. Looking over reviews from other people, I'm sad to see so many people dismiss it outright because of its lyrics and subject matter. Randy writes in character. A fact that seems to be challenging for many here. It's strange to me that we can separate artist and role so easily when we watch a film (no one is getting angry at Fassbender for his role as a slave-owner in 12 Years a Slave), but we seem to have difficulty making this same separation when it comes to music. Stories deserve to be told, and no one does it better in music that Randy. He drags American skeletons out of the closet and into the daylight. That discomfort you feel? He's directly pointing out how strange it is that you don't feel it every day, because if you looked, it's all around you.

Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton
May 30 2025

Maybe I'm just overdosing on 70s rock, or maybe live albums don't really do it for me, but I thought this album was just fine. Some individual tracks are incredible and I found a few new ones to love, but it doesn't come together as an album for me. Insane talent though!

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Jun 12 2025

Undeniably beautiful and moving. I wanted to hate, but I left enchanted.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

Tried to judge it independently of the my expectations of the bad, but I didn't really get what this one had to say. Didn't enjoy it musically either.

Jun 19 2025

I mean, I love Air, and I love this album, but its not even in their personal top 3 in my opinion. Curious as to why it was selected.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jun 23 2025

A band I love and an album I've never listened to end to end. Was really interesting to hear their sound at an earlier stage. Less weird, more punk and reggae, but all the pieces were there.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Jun 24 2025

I'm a reasonable man, I see radiohead, I rate 5stars. Hard for me to separate this album from what it meant to me when I discovered it as a teenager. I'd never heard anything like it. It was cinematic, rock, noise, electronic, ambient, non-chalant, and yet so fucking cool. It pulled feelings out of my depths I wasn't aware were there. So yeah, I'd say that it was a pretty great album.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Jul 01 2025

New to me. Again, I have an bias against live albums as a fan of production, but her voice is undeniable.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Jul 03 2025

I tried to shed any biases I have based on what Coldplay has become and listen to the album as a whole. There are some incredible songs here in my opinion that rise above the derogatory "adult contemporary" label, but I'm sure there are more deserving, less outwardly commercial in their ambitions albums that deserve a spot on the list.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jul 04 2025

On my personal top 10. This album has been a constant companion in my life and has stood the test of time. It's as good in the car on a roadtrip, as it is for living room dance parties, as it is in my headphones all alone. Paul Simon is an unapologetic fan of music and it shines through here. He leaves room to share his spotlight with other incredible artists and he's not afraid to change his sound in order to prove the universality of good songwriting that speaks to your soul.

Vincebus Eruptum by Blue Cheer
Aug 05 2025

Really cool to draw the lines between blues, rock, and heavy metal. Not sure if it's an album that I'll come back to personally, but I'm really happy to have heard it.

Traffic by Traffic
Aug 06 2025

Holy shit! Who was in charge of telling me about this album, because they messed up! Truly resonated with me. Just clean songwriting, production, and instrumentation. A delight. Will need to dig into their other work.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Aug 07 2025

What an incredible voice. More familiar with his later weirder later work (mostly thanks to Wes Anderson movies). Have to admit I like this less, but there's plenty to love here. Not sure I'll return to it.

Woodface by Crowded House
Aug 08 2025

This one did not do it for me. Didn't really feel like it was pushing any boundaries on the one hand, nor did I feel like it really resonated as pop music on the other. Felt a bit like a 90s Coldplay.

Rio by Duran Duran
Aug 12 2025

I had no idea how many of these were on this one album. Tons of fun.

Queen II by Queen
Sep 22 2025

Really cool to hear a different sound from a band that was so boxed-in in my mind.
