Theres a quote from Pitchfork on Tortoise's spotify bio, it reads "Tortoise floats free, a planchette moving over a Ouija board guided by 10 sets of fingers, where everyone watches the arrow float in one direction but no one is quite sure how it gets there or who is doing the pushing", I think that sums Djed up quite nicely. It's not a song so much as it's an audio experience. It's a spectrum of textures, it's almost tactile. The strength and driving energy of the album as a whole sound like a source of inspiration for bands such as Public Service Broadcasting.

Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 20 2025

Honestly, this is a very boring album. Like i get the appeal but it's just not my thing.

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Jun 03 2025

I’ve had multiple insights into the messaging behind this album, my main one being that I'm missing context on gang politics that I think would have given this extra depth. I wrote the second half of this sentence halfway through track 1 but at 2/3 through the album I think it’s even more pertinent . There are a number of real-world issues addressed in this album that are greatly overshadowed by the message to perpetuate gang violence. Totally appreciate that this message is a commentary on survival as a black man in the US. It’s born of desperation, and the threats and disses in the album are attacks with words rather than bullets but it’s an attack nonetheless. It’s hard to see the anti-racial activism addressed in the album as anything more than ironic. Isn’t until track 5 that we hear genuine artistry There’s a stark juxtaposition between certain instrumental elements throughout the album. An example of this is the keyboard solo from 3mins on 'Fuck Wit Dre Day' and the flute accompaniment on Lil’ Ghetto Boy. Overall it’s a bit of a mix, I don’t vibe with the violent and sexist messaging in the album, I don’t understand why it’s become mainstream. It’s an interesting insight, delving into a precursor to more modern genres but it disheartens me slightly that modern artists don’t have the perspective to steer towards a more positive change in messaging.

Where do I begin. I was so hyped by the opening track, it set a standard that absolutely did not carry throughout the rest of the album. If I could take this album and remove more-or-less all vocals it would be fantastic. ABC are great at writing music and absolutely suck at writing lyrics. Favourite tracks were Show Me (track 1) and Look of Love pt. 4 (track 10)

Imagine by John Lennon

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Jun 02 2026

This album is a really good example of the small-frame snapshot you get of the history and context of artists from a single work. Warhol had taken the velvet underground into his fold, married their sound with one of his models, and through them found a new way for his factory to get art into the mass market. Unfortunately the wider picture is completely lost when the only exposure to that world is this flop of an album, with its model who can't sing, and complete atonal dissonance.

Thriller by Michael Jackson

Practically a best of! Very strong! Every song is an absolute banger. We'll most songs.... Ignoring the fact that The Girl is Mine is an absolute stinker and P.Y.T being very of its time it's a solid album

Stephen Stills by Stephen Stills
Jun 05 2026

Listening out of the blue in 2026 without any background knowledge it just kind of blends into the background of country from that era. Has a specific nostalgic sound that you really only get from that time.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jun 11 2026

It was interesting listening to sly and hearing what is surely the inspiration behind Steven Wilson's Raven that Refused to Sing

Honestly wasn't sure what to make of most of it

evermore by Taylor Swift
Jun 18 2026

For a Taylor Swift album it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'll admit I had preconceptions going in but by the end they were somewhat dispelled. I've said to myself that I wouldn't come back to this one but I kept comparing the album's sound and vibe to phoebe bridgers who I do regularly listen to so maybe there's some bias stuff going on there

Dog Man Star by Suede
Jun 25 2026

Suede isn't a bad band but this is a bad album.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jun 29 2026

Great music but I'd prefer a studio album

The La's by The La's
Jul 01 2026

It's actually crazy that this album is the one with There She Goes. It's got a vibe like it was recorded in the 60s but was ahead of it's time, I was actually really surprised to see that it came out in the 90s

The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers
Jul 02 2026

It's like a cakey velvet underground

Horses by Patti Smith
Jul 06 2026

Experimental

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Jul 07 2026

Honestly a 6 disc compilation of songs my gran would have listened to is a bit much

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Jul 10 2026

Crazy that after years of listening to Foo Fighters I've never listened to this album. It sets a really strong consistency for their sound and throughout the years it's always been their fingerprint

Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp
Jul 15 2026

Experimental and intriguing, not sure it's something I'd revisit

Cross by Justice

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Jul 21 2026

This album doesn't make it into my top anything really, but it's hard to justify why because it hits so many marks for me

The Stooges by The Stooges
Jul 23 2026

It's like listening to a fifth year high school music project
