It's uncomfortable to listen to Kanye nowadays. Kanye's voice is generally the worst part of each of his songs, and knowing how drug abuse can exacerbate mental health issues, those lyrics are more disturbing than enjoyable. Same goes for lyrics about violence against women. Power and All of the Lights are undeniable hits.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jun 27 2025

Ethereal and offbeat. Easy to see how this influenced some of my favorite artists like Garbage and The Cranberries. Very indicative of the 80s to 90s sound. Iceblink Luck is a favorite.

With The Beatles by Beatles

Songs are pretty short and don't flow into each other well. Great, sweet love songs with very little complexity. No difficulty hearing any lyrics. Till There Was You is a beautiful showcase of Paul's singing at its best. I like the subversiveness of 'You've Really Got A Hold On Me,' where the singer admits the object of his affection treats him badly. That's about as edgy as it gets.

American Idiot by Green Day
Jul 02 2025

One of my favorite albums from my youth. Still holds up and is sadly more relevant now than ever, 21 years later

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jul 03 2025

I get the appeal. Never personally been a Pearl Jam fan, but this album has all their big hits. I like it more when Vedder sings without much drawl.

american dream by LCD Soundsystem
Jul 04 2025

I was working in alt rock radio when this album was released. It made no impact because it really does nothing groundbreaking. Other bands have done more with similar sounds

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone

Duck Stab/Buster & Glen by The Residents

This album feels cursed and I love it. Also glad I can listen to this in headphones. If it was playing over speakers somewhere I entered, I would probably run away fast.

...The Dandy Warhols Come Down by The Dandy Warhols
Jul 11 2025

An interesting mix of grunge and classic rock influences. I especially like the psychedelic influences here

Heroes by David Bowie

Jul 16 2025

Album starts like a traditional country album, but starts to shine with the rock influences in Boxcars. Jericho is actually kinda fun, but then the album goes back to slow classic country with Tonight I Think I'm Gonna Go Downtown. I'll Be Your Fool is a delightful little ditty. I like the tiny howl he puts on certain words in it. Fingernails is also a fun song. The back half of the album is a little stronger than the first bit.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jul 21 2025

Modern heavy metal sounds very different from this origin point. I didn't expect to hear harmonicas, for example. I'm sure the guitars are loud and brash in concert, but they felt muted in the recording I listened to. The singer's voice doesn't quite work at some places (which probably accounts for the large number of instrumental breaks), but when it works, it works very well.

Timeless by Goldie

It was fine. Nothing too special

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Sep 16 2025

A fine album. Changes holds up. There are some interesting songs in there, but overall it's kinda dull

Beach Samba by Astrud Gilberto
Sep 17 2025

This album is a very pleasant surprise. Haven't indulged in much samba music historically, but Astrud's singing makes it very accessible. Even a song like Parade (A Banda) starts out almost grating, but when she comes in and sings about all the different parades I can't help but enjoy it
