First half of this album is straight anthemic arena rock. The second half of the album falls off a bit, but I do like the closing “Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll”.
The production and sound on this album is fantastic. I love how they mic’d up Keith Moon’s drums. Opening with Baba O’Riley sets the stage and then the closing with Won’t Get Fooled Again puts the exclamation on a classic rock album.
The bass lines on this album stand out and give many tracks a dynamic feel. Add it up may be my favorite track. Folk Punk classic. Most of these songs were written when Gordon Gano was 18!
This is a very good sophomore album with some slick production work by Jack Antonoff. It’s a good blend of pop and electropop that was popular in the 2010’s. Green Light is a catchy, upbeat pop song to start the album. The Louvre is another favorite of mine. Writer In The Dark really captured my attention. It’s a piano ballad with a beautiful string arrangement, very orchestral. The closer of the album, Perfect Places, is another song with a catchy chorus that I enjoyed.
I listened to most of this album on a run earlier. It might have been too downtempo for a run but nevertheless enjoyable. Extremely vibey and atmospheric. Sexy Boy was my favorite of the tracks, with Talisman coming in right behind. I’ll definitely continue to revisit this classic in the future.
Big Exit is a terrific opener to the album. I’ve never been to NYC, so I don’t immediately connect with the album emotionally, but nevertheless can appreciate this albums themes. The duets with Thom Yorke are enjoyable.
Not really my cup of tea and I think I enjoy Celebrity Skin more by Hole. It’s a little more produced and not as grungy. Doll Parts is my favorite track on this album. “Some day you will ache like I ache” are some heavy lyrics.
What’s Golden is a great pump up track. Reminds me of my college roommate Crow. Most of these tracks seems like they would fit well on a Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack.
The second half of the album gets a bit repetitive at times, but a good rock opera overall.
Getting outside of my usual genres with this album of world music. Bomba and Ungodly Kingdom were my favorite tracks. Otherwise it didn’t move the needle much for me but I’m thankful I was exposed to this. One of the joys of this daily generator!
Amazing three track run to open the album. “You’re All I’ve Got Tonight” is another favorite of mine on this album.
The Promised Land could be the greatest song about the American experience. Classic
The instrumentation is exceptional, especially the horns and string arrangements. I also enjoy the piano play throughout this album. Nick Drake has influenced so many artists that I admire but I’ve always had a tough time connecting with his soft vocal delivery.
This album didn’t do much for me. Kind of meandered track to track with nothing grabbing me, musically or lyrically.
London Calling is more of my cup of tea but this album is more straight line punk.
One of the greatest pure guitar players of all time. The main knock I will give about this album is that it is somewhat bloated. A smaller track listing would have suited this album better.
Creep, Waterfalls, and Sumthin Wicked This Way Comes are my favorite tracks on the album. Definitely takes me back to the 90’s and summertime as a kid.
Legend of country music. The live performances at prisons helped review his career and not many could pull that off.
It’s hard to separate the art from the artist with MJ. No denying it’s one of the greatest Pop voices of all time.
What’s Going On is the best Marvin Gaye album IMO
Just listened to the episode of the Weight from the podcast A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs, which talked about the making of this album and how the Band got their name. Classic.
It just doesn’t do it for me.
David Berman is a hell of a songwriter.
I wish I would have been in a better mode to enjoy this.
Common people is a terrific track. No other track really grabbed me like that one did.
So many southern rock classics on this album.
Country Joe was one of the major pioneers of the California hippie music scene. Their performance at Woodstock is legendary.
No better voice in all of soul
This is the coke album. Young Americans and Fame are great tracks but too many tracks drag on too long. Also, not a good Beatles cover on here.
Not my favorite Neil album but man this one is great
