Haven’t listened to this since Middle School.
It is still very good.
Great riffs. Great tones. Great drums.
Not great melodies. Not great vocals. Not great song writing.
I was pretty underwhelmed here.
I love WuTang. But I felt that the production on this was pretty mid. Fun samples and ideas never really evolved from their first bars and it ended up feeling half-baked.
And I honestly didn’t love GZAs flow. It felt stiff and kinda lazy. My favorite flow on this was RZA by a mile.
Not bad. Not good.
I appreciate the vibe. I like that he didn’t take himself too seriously. He could’ve stood to take himself a bit more seriously though.
Nah man this is boring. I thought about giving this a 3 but there’s just way too many people in this genre that prove to me I don’t have to convince myself that this album is good. It is not good. It is boring. And derivative as fuck.
It might not be the most exciting thing I’ve ever heard but goddamnit I liked it. Sure it’s a bit derivative. Hearing a lot of The Who and The Beatles. But it was good fun pop rock song writing.
Honestly I fw this. It’s funky and fun and just pretty solid pop soul. Feels like a dude in the music industry too long was just like “fuck it ima do my own thing.” Little long but overall I felt every song brought something worth listening to.
This is just a concrete 5. Outstandingly unique all while being incredibly layered and varied.
The songs on here that stood the test of time are truly great - but there is a lot in this release that’s just super mediocre/forgettable. I wanted to give it a 4 but I’m just not gonna spin this whole album again - some of the bangers yes, but there’s too much fluff in this imo.
This was my first time ever listening to Pulp and I was very impressed. This might not be a 10/10 but imo it’s def better than a 4/5.
There was so much going on here. Almost every song was a unique journey with verses that were in many cases even more rewarding than their choruses.
So many layers and tones. Big fan of this one. Excited to dig in to more Pulp.
Some decent stuff in here. Also some pretty meh stuff as well. Can definitely see how this paved the way for their later releases.
Elvin Jones put his whole damn pussy into that drum set
Shoutout Nitrous for allowing people to enjoy this pinnacle of mediocrity.
Turns out the bassist for the Sex Pistols was not, in fact, the most important part of the Sex Pistols.
Meh. Decent radio rock I guess. Back half was more interesting. Black Keys has better albums.
I mean I just don’t know that “classic” rock gets any better than this. It’s just fantastic songwriting. If you put this out in 2026 people would still fw it. It’s catchy, and despite being in the absolute tidal wave of Classic Rock, Costello has a unique voice both literally and in his songwriting style. I just think this dude delivered a classic sound with his own twist and i super fuck with it.
This could be an “objective” 5, but for me it’s a 4. There’s some really epic shit on here. And also some shit that’s not really for me. I definitely understand why Prince is heralded as a genius. But I don’t love a lot of the tones and textures on here that aged pretty poorly. That being said there were songs on here I’d never heard that I really loved. While I didn’t connect with the whole album I still consider Prince an indisputable GOAT.
I wanted to round this up to a 3. But it’s just too wandering and forgettable. I like the more experimental moments at the end. It’s not bad. But it’s not good either. Just kinda background jam-blues music. Nothing too memorable here.
I was absolutely delightfully surprised by this.
It was fun, and weird, and all over the place while still being cohesive as an entire album.
In the era of Beatles and Zepp and Pink Floyd etc, I thought it was an awesome change of pace to listen to an incredibly sonically rich project that lyrically and stylistically didn't take itself too seriously.
These dudes were clearly crazy fuckin talented, but still they were just having an awesome time in the studio and chasing wherever inspiration took them. I will for sure be returning to this.
For some reason I was under the impression that I didn't like Metallica. I was wrong. I do like Metallica. That was a good album. Not all the songs were good. But most of them were good. I had a fun time.
Dude this was so awesome. This one just really checks all my boxes personally. It’s catchy both in melody and in beats. The breakbeats and synth lines are bangers from front to back. Idk how I’ve never heard this before. I’m a huge fan. Just a fuckin good time from beginning to end.
DAMN - WHAT A FUCKIN VIBE. This is as good as it gets imo. The layers, the tones, the instruments, the compositions, the storytelling - all exceptional. Definitely one of the greatest Jazz entries of all time.
Nick Drake was one of those artists that just really left such a mark on the world. His artistic voice is so unique and this album really stands out as one that couldn’t have been written by anyone else. He had his own sound and this list is proving to me how truly difficult that is to do.
I do not understand the praise for this album. With a couple of exceptions that hint at the genesis of punk, most of this was really, really derivative blues. I just thought so much of this was cookie cutter 12 bar blues at best. At worst it was some serious appropriation of black music masquerading as originality.
There was definitely a lot of fun ideas in here, but the way it all came together just wasn’t really working for me. I enjoyed a lot of the parts separately - the intricate chord progressions, the lush orchestration, the cool guitar riffs - but it all amounted to something somehow underwhelming.
A couple tracks on here I’ll definitely hold on to, but as an album I didn’t find myself connecting to it any substantial way.
Really outstanding from beginning to end. Each song is a journey. The attention to detail and amount of layering is phenomenal. Bowie was in a league of his own.
Lmao holy shit I love this. I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into and after the first track I was like, “wait that was fun” and then the good times just kept rolling.
This to me is what this list is about. I never knew these guys and had no idea what to expect and this is just one fun song after another.
The horns and arrangements are super poppy and fun and every song is a smile.
I see ppl shitting on the vocals, but to me it just sounds like the dude is doing his own thing and letting it out. I think it fits the sound well personally.
I see nothing wrong with this album. You could be pretentious about it, or you can just have a good time.
Some of this starts to sound the same- but it’s a great sound.
Really loved how weird this was. Lot of cool shit and interesting choices going on here.
Definitely enjoyed my time with it, but not something I see myself returning to.
Look I’ll start this by saying I’m not a Dylan guy, and I’m also not a lyrics guy. But I really did my best to get into this - it’s just not for me.
I do think the band is really doing some solid work here, and I was surprised to find a handful of choruses that stuck with me more than I expected for Dylan’s usual style.
That being said, I just find the harmonica assaulting, and the songwriting really subpar. I know that sounds like a shocking take, but if you subtract the lyrics (which I personally find pretentious, esoteric, and free-associative) the songs are really just general blues/folk/cowboy chords.
I’ve seen the movie. I’ve read the tales. I’ve heard the music. And try as I might I just cannot find the value that everyone else seems to divine from this album.
I was so ready to give this a 5.
The beats are immaculate. And Biggies flow is unparalleled. This was so clearly a moment in music history that changed the course of music forever. Rap was never the same after this album - everything that followed it was influenced by it whether it realized it or not.
But there’s just too many weird as fuck sketches in here. Cmon. Edit. Cut. Refine.
Like at 4 I still woulda given it a 5. But after like 15 audio sketches of Biggie being like “yeah suck me fat dick bitch!” You just don’t get a 5.
Love the tones. And I get that it’s supposed to be muddy, but there’s just not enough to grab onto once you’re thru sifting the mud, no matter how divine the sludge is.
Outside of nice guitar tones, I thought the songwriting on this was profoundly boring. Just the most cookie cutter rock chord progressions and melodies.
I fw this heavy.
Tough one to rate.
I definitely like a lot of the sounds, compositions, orchestrations. I appreciate its lushness. So I feel obliged to give it a 4 despite the fact that I will never listen to this again.
“It insists upon itself.”
This dude just fuckin gets it.
Shitty Radiohead the Musical
This is the kinda country I can fw.
Super gorgeous music.
Kinda wild that these 3 absolute Queens I don’t think passed the Bechdel test on this one.
Still fire tho.
