American Idiot by Green Day
Jul 24 2026

i remember dancing to Holiday in my friend morgan's house when we were 10 years old, having no idea what the song meant, but rocking tf out. my best friend Marie and I were obsessed with Boulevard of Broken Dreams and we thought the "uh huh uh huh" refrain was really funny for some reason. I heard Wake Me Up When September Ends so incessantly on the radio that I grew to hate it, and still I really dislike that song. Otherwise, I always appreciate Green Day's ability to diagnose hypocrisy and flay the myth of American exceptionalism and while some may see this album as too pop, i was so young when Green Day were putting out their more punk albums that I just thought they were cool.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Jul 26 2026

Wasn’t for me but I can understand why it had the impact it did. It was hard to latch on to melodically for me. I heard a lot of Lou Reed in it.

B-52's by The B-52's
Jul 27 2026

how can you not love rock lobster? my heart's crackin like Krakatoaaaaa.

Jul 28 2026

listening to jazz is like playing chess - it's a mental workout. It's dynamic. It makes sense to me that this album was written as a ballet - it's film noir, cinematic, unexpected (hello Spanish guitar), and romantic. The kind of music you'd expect to play as a veteran detective, hands stuffed in the pockets of his trench, walks dejectedly in the rain. The piano was resplendent. I definitely picked up on a lot of classical motifs. First album I've listened to so far that I'd characterize as a true work of art.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Jul 29 2026

bookending the album with Young Americans and Fame is all time. Young Americans might be my favorite David Bowie song. Luther Vandross surely has something to do with that.

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jul 31 2026

I actually do really like the ambientness of this and the ethereal nature. I think ultimately it was sort of boring - if one was on a hallucinogenic drug it would probably be amazing though.

London Calling by The Clash
Aug 01 2026

Lost in the supermarket might be my new favorite song. It seems so modern to me. I wasn’t expecting to hear something like that on a clash album. Shows how much i know about the clash! The clash is COOL

Dub Housing by Pere Ubu
Aug 03 2026

first album I got where I truly had no idea what to expect and had never heard of them. a little too out there for me to go back and listen multiple times. i would jam if it came on the radio though, but the whole thing sounded like spongebob on ketamine.

xx by The xx
Aug 04 2026

loved this album in high school and listening again was really pleasant. Heart Skipped A Beat is probably my favorite, as well as Intro. There are some downers on the record, though, and it can be maudlin at times. It's a complete 180 from the Pere Ubu album I listened to yesterday.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Aug 05 2026

maybe it's because I haven't had my coffee yet but this album is really pissing me off.

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Aug 06 2026

this was so nice to listen to after Captain Beefheart. The Elusive Chanteuse DAHLING! Some of the songs reminded me of the end credits of a 90s Disney movie. If I could give this a 4.5 I would.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
Aug 07 2026

Quite listenable but didn’t grab me in any particular way. hero was a stand-out

Aug 11 2026

Blowin' in the Wind, A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, Don't Think Twice, It's Alright, Girl from the North Country - if only ONE of these songs were on this album, I think it would deserve a 5. The cultural legacy of his protest songs is undeniable, of course, but I'm even more impressed when Dylan takes a turn for the personal. To me, Don't Think Twice It's Alright is one of the greatest breakup songs ever written. And, Girl from the North Country, maybe one of the greatest love songs of all time (though I'm partial to the Johnny Cash version). I'm not saying every song on this record was a winner for me, but given the massive impact it had, it deserves a five.

Aug 12 2026

I've tried not to read reviews of albums before I get a chance to listen to them on my own, but in this case I felt like the Tribe album was such a seminal and groundbreaking album, and having not been born yet, the additional context was helpful. Such a thoroughly enjoyable album that clearly influenced EVERY rapper/hip hop artist to come.

Paris 1919 by John Cale
Aug 13 2026

It’s giving rococo court intrigue. Really liked the title track.

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Aug 14 2026

Loved "I'll Be Around" and "Mood Indigo." I'm only giving this a three because I can't see myself going back and listening to it very often, unless it's background music for a dinner party or something. That's not to discount his voice or the arrangements - they really are sublime.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek & The Dominos
Aug 20 2026

First half of the album I liked - second half got a little too jammy / Grateful Dead-y for my liking (aside from little wing & Layla). Patty Boyd was that bitch apparently.
