1001 Albums Summary

Fun drum and beat album which at the time was probably near the top of the game. It does start with a song repeating the phrase "smack my bitch up" which is not great.

Some fun songs including the classic "Passengers" but they do open the album up with a second song about lust for underage girls so that's weird but I guess it was the 70s. I don't think he has a good voice either

Classic hits with Changes and Life on Mars, three songs that are tributes or diss tracks to other artists, and overall weird vibes. Love it

Couldn't make it all the way through. I know it's an artsy jazz that is meant to be listened to in stereo, probably while smoking clove cigarettes in a dark backroom and discussing Faulkner's grand metaphors or some shit. But I couldn't think with this playing at a relatively low volume. Maybe that's the point? Don't think and just listen? Too high brow for me

Twang about love in a time of boozing.

I like REM in my mind but listening back to this, it's fine but not that exciting. But it did remind me of Chicken Little so that's good

What great grunge to gaze at your shoes to and think about the frustrations of society.

Ethereal and dreamy. Like a warm drive through a forest with the windows down. I like it but I dunno why it's on this list

Honestly I didn't want to like this because my little indie loving self told me the Smiths are better and he's bad for thinking he can do solo work. But honestly I love a lot of these songs so I guess Morrissey still had it in 2004

It was a fun country rock album that had yacht rock vibes somehow? It was foot tapping music

Weird stuff but I like it. Scottish producers naming their band Canada though? Not for the geographically challenged American

Buttery voice singing about sex over a great backing with some horns to back it up? Good for me. The frog princess song was great.

Golden age of underground hip hop. I'd listened to Jurassic 5 before but hadn't put the time in to appreciate the linguistics. The socially conscious and progressive lyricism over well produced beats with scratchy samples makes my head nod. Nostalgia 5 stars but would still listen to it today

Not particularly impressive, but not outright bad. Just folk music. His voice is mid and the subjects are very depressing but it didn't hit me in a meaningful, poetic depressing way. Maybe I'm not from Nebraska and that's why. As someone who has never really listened to Springsteen, this has not turned me on to him

Good jazz rock. Started strong but my interest waned

Cognitively I know this was probably groundbreaking at the time but I cannot extract it from the thousands of electronica tracks I've listened to over the years, there doesn't seem to be anything special about this album to me. Apologies to the chemical brothers but their style has been copied so much it is no longer unique

Love this weird orchestral backed soft voiced chorusy album

Great intro song. Beautiful is a hit obviously. It's a very strong record

So intense and depressing and mysterious and weird. The story behind it is tragic. I want to understand it more but I don't think I'm plugged into the prog/art rock consciousness. Haunting and overall good

Talk about separating the art from the artist! What a great record. To quote Kendrick Lamar, Michael "gave us 'Billie Jean,' you say he touched those kids?" I do believe the accusers, to be clear. But does Jackson deserve sympathy for how his upbringing formed him into the broken human that committed those heinous acts? Is this the correct forum to pontificate on this? Imagine that it was the right place to talk about it, then what?

I like this quite a bit. The chopped up guitar and electrobeats with her dreamy voice selling me meaningless nothings. Way to stay relevant Madonna
