With The Beatles
BeatlesImagine if we could have pop music this good now
Imagine if we could have pop music this good now
This was a good punk album. I could hear The Police, Fugazi and others in their songs. Enjoyed it
Groovy, funky and I was literally listening to this two days before it came up in the list. Great musicians playing great songs
Yawn with a layer of cheese
Surprised Fear of a Black Planet wasn’t in the list instead of this album. But this is good none the less
What can I say, this is a classic grunge album but not my favorite grunge album
This is a pop album?? Complex, challenging and very different from the big single Every Breath You Take.
Great album, the harmonies and song writing are sublime
Hits from start to finish
Great Latin fusion, groovy and soulful. Classic Santana guitar work
I struggled with this one, just not my cup of tea.
It’s not a bad pop album. Only listened to the French versions
Not their best album (that would be The Colour and the Shape) but the first and the one that got me in to the Foos. The lyrics are pretty obscure and you can tell from the way the vocals are mixed that Dave is not used to being the front man yet.
I’m no hip hop aficionado but it’s a good album.
Not sure why this is included in the list of albums you must listen to before you die. It’s ok 90’s hip hop but not that great and most of the songs are at least 2 minutes too long.
Groovy, funky and I was literally listening to this two days before it came up in the list. Great musicians playing great songs
Background music
Classic 80’s synth pop. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
There’s a joyful innocence about ABBA that you don’t hear these days. I enjoyed this album
Ambitious but overly long and overblown. Quite dark at times with songs like Cousin Kevin and Fiddle About is literally about Tommy getting molested by his uncle, wtf? Anyway, there are some good tunes on here, Pinball Wizard being the highlight but overall it does drag on a bit and I think would benefit from some visuals on stage or film.
Dylan at his poetic best. It’s live, loose and janglely. Sounds like it was recorded all in the same room together playing which just works. A classic for sure
Smooth, sexy and soulful. I enjoyed this album a lot more than I thought I would. Is that enough was my favorite track
Good, but not great
I guess “art rock” means a total lack of anything resembling some kind of song structure, you know like a verse or chorus or even an enjoyable melody. I struggled to get through this
Good pop album. I’m not a big Beyoncé fan but you can’t deny she has a great voice.
2 1/2 stars. It’s ok but I don’t see why it makes this list
I prefer The Slider personally but perhaps this album is more influential.
Now we have a classic rock album! Every song is great, Maybe I’m a Leo is probably my favorite.
This was cool, punkabilly country punk or whatever you call it.
This was a good punk album. I could hear The Police, Fugazi and others in their songs. Enjoyed it
Good relaxing background music.
Great flow, good beats. 90’s hip hop is the best.
Not their best album. At this stage in their career you can see that the Stones don’t have the songwriting level of the Beatles but there is some good tunes on this one.
There aren’t enough stars for this album. Beautiful, haunting, powerful soaring melodies over intricate guitar lines and driving rhythms. There’s not a bad song here, Lilac Wine & So Real are my favs
Probably 3.5 stars. There is something quintessentially 90’s about Garbage and that’s not a bad thing. With Butch Vig both in the band and behind the boards they couldn’t really wrong but there is a dark sultry-ness to these songs that make them stand out from the crowd.
Imagine, the song, is not only one of John Lennon’s most iconic tunes, it’s one of the most iconic tunes of the 20th century. The album however, doesn’t back it up. It’s good but not great. Some tracks remind me of Rolling Stones b-sides.
Really enjoyed this album. Great songs and writing. Didn’t realize how many classics were on here.
3.5 stars. I’d never heard of Gene Clark before and this album gave me some nice CSN&Y vibes. I would call this early alt-country and as a guitar player I enjoyed the solos.
Jazz/prog folk. It’s just not really my thing
Cool vibes, funky and chill at times too.
Got this on Boxing Day, so the theme fit. Other than that, why is this on the list?
Great old school RnB. Wonderful voice
Some Brit pop goodness, but not the best Brit pop
In the late 90’s I was into The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Fatboy Slim quite a bit. This seems like a second tier act to them. The Party song is woeful and some of the samples actually pull you out of the song rather than add to it.
The problem with this list is there is no context as to why a particular album is on here. I was looking forward to the Cure but there were none of the hits I knew.
Oh man, this is five stars straight up. In my opinion the greatest funk album ever! Psychedelic, sci-fi and seriously funky.
Death of a clown sounds like a Dylan cover. It’s ok
Yawn with a layer of cheese
Has some classic songs but some do drag on a bit too long. It’s raw, live and has that classic Dylan feel.
The Who are obviously more of a live band. This was better than Tommy, but I realized I’m just not much of a fan.
Who let the rednecks out? Second question, why is this here? Frat boy rock at its worst. Don’t give this guy credit for nu metal/rap rock. That goes to Beasties, FNM RATM
3.5 stars I enjoyed this more than the previous Nick Drake album listed. This sounds more contemporary to me and has an alt folk feel.
3.5 stars. Just good tunes
It’s ok alt rock
Post punk brilliance.
It’s ok. Take me out is way over played on the radio but it not a bad song
Ramones meets AC/DC but with some silly lyrics. Good rockin fun thought with some good riffs.
Great voice, just not really my thing
Yacht rock. Some cool guitar licks and harmonies but this is the kind of rock I hated growing up.
This is the classic lineup and their best album by far.
If I died and hadn’t listened to this album I’d be perfectly fine with that. Boring
Cool vibes
Cool latin vibes
Quite possibly the best metal album of the 90’s. Definitely Pantera’s best album
The best grunge album. Period.
Irreverent, funny and the beginning of what would become a brilliant career. 4 stars
Hadn’t heard of these guys and really enjoyed the ska punk type vibe
2.5 stars. I’m not a big fan of her voice but the songs are ok
The Stones best album of the 60’s
Great modern soul/R&B album
I’m surprised that this album is on the list and not Toxicity. That was the album that really broke the band in to the mainstream.
At the height of the pop punk trend along comes an actual punk rock band. With more in common with The Clash and Minor Threat to anything the pretend punk bands had, the Hives fast, thrashy jangly guitar is a breath of fresh air.
Alt rock pioneers
5 stars. Classic album with brilliant songs.
5 stars. Not because I love this album, in fact I’m not a big fan of the Clash. 5 stars because I can hear the influence on bands I love and grew up with and that deserves recognition. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rancid and the Living End are all here in these songs.
Good harmonies
Cool
Simply brilliant
As the songs says, Perfection.
Bowie is brilliant
No idea why this Madonna album made the list
Adele is a breath of fresh air. Real songs and a real voice with no auto tune
A metal masterpiece. RIP Cliff Burton
It’s really not my thing but I can see this would have been massive in the clubs at the time. 80’s synth pop at its best
I don’t have enough background and knowledge to know how to really rate this but 4 stars seems right
I’m not the biggest Clapton fan and I’m a guitar player
Great album. Real Americana style, Dylan-esque at times
Imagine if we could have pop music this good now
Wait, this isn’t the album with She Don’t Use Jelly??
Dark, morose and beautiful
I’m not sure Primal Scream get enough credit for what they did with rock and electronic music
This sounds like the flaming lips
