Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Mar 01 2023

For some reason I'm reminded of Looney Tunes. I liked Boplicity and Rocker lot. The last song was... off-putting.

Winter In America by Gil Scott-Heron
Mar 14 2023

"I hate avant-garde music" I say and yet.... I kind of liked it. Gil Scott-Heron has a complex and compelling voice which is somehow complimented by the keyboard. At once soft and chaotic, this is losing yourself on the New York Subway, middle of the night music. "H20 Gate Blues" still feels too relevant.

Isn't Anything by My Bloody Valentine
Mar 15 2023

Really enjoyed listening to this one. I can totally see how this album could have been an influence for a ton of other stuff (thinking of Smashing Pumpkins or Nirvana). My singular complaint is that the production quality is pretty shit/fuzzy (probably on purpose but I hate it) which definitely made me enjoy less. I think it would be a 5 if the recording was a little more clear, though Lose My Breath almost carried it for me.

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
Mar 16 2023

Fine thing to listen to while working.

Kid A by Radiohead
Mar 21 2023
Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Mar 24 2023

It might have been tolerable if it was shorter, but 2 hours of mediocre old folk music is way, way too much. I didn't finish.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Mar 27 2023

Whiny

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Mar 28 2023

honestly not bad? gives me videogame soundtrack vibes

The Yes Album by Yes
Mar 31 2023

This one was really enjoyable, will listen again for sure.

Vespertine by Björk
Apr 10 2023

A couple songs were definitely a 4-5, but mostly I was neutral on this. The couple really good songs carried it. Her voice was pretty haunting- it made me wish it was raining

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Apr 12 2023

Could really hear the influence this album had on a TON of other stuff. Also just fun to listen to, these songs made me happy.

Apr 13 2023

Lots of great ones on this album. I especially liked "Running to Stand Still"

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Apr 17 2023

Not really my thing, but she has a beautiful voice. I appreciated the blatant political activism in her lyrics.

Spiderland by Slint
Apr 19 2023

Starting to think that whoever put this album list together just REALLY likes grungy rock

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Apr 25 2023

Not my usual thing but I find this delightful. I'd give it a 4.5 but a handful of songs were kinda weird and not fun to listen to which brought it down.

Smash by The Offspring
Apr 28 2023
Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
May 04 2023

Would've gotten a three if it wasn't so damn long. There's way too much mediocre garage rock on this list.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
May 16 2023

Fun to listen to, not sure I'd seek it out though.

1999 by Prince
May 17 2023

The vocals on International Lover, holy shit.

Elvis Is Back by Elvis Presley
May 26 2023

The way overused fadeaways drive me nuts, but his vocal talent is undeniable. I really hope dirty, dirty feeling is a joke... lyrical content in general brought it down to a 3, musically it's a 4.

The Bends by Radiohead
May 29 2023

Actually really enjoyed this one, bones in particular. I'm a sucker for a moody falsetto.
