1001 Albums Summary

One of the best albums from The Beatles but won't rate it higher due to musical preference, though I'm sure others would. High 4 star

A reasonable album with some decent tracks, but The Verve were a lot more exciting when they were also exploring psychedelic rock, space rock, and shoegaze rather than trying to follow the success of bands like Oasis.

High 2 star rating. Some fun tracks, some sub par. Whilst their is reasonably broad instrument usage in most tracks, track to track dynamics aren't great which makes it a more tiresome listen than it should be especially as even the few decent tracks never reach anywhere near "incredible" in their own right

Low 4 - fun and well put together, flows well enough but personal preference says to reach for contemporaries and the trip-hop scene at the time

Influential and a decent listen, but doesn't hold up so well in terms of lyrics, technical ability, and polish unlike some of the bands that were directly influenced by this in the 80s

Overall a decent album but can't understand why it's on the list

Easy to see why Oasis became had such a strong breakthrough with this album. Many simple yet well crafted songs for an audience that want something new to listen to but nothing too bold and daring. Personal preference but the album is far less interesting than a lot of the work that came before from numerous other bands on Creation Records

Not my favourite album from PJ but still very well written. High 4 star

Some solid hits on here, high 3 with personal preference stopping me from rating it higher

A very inventive electronica classic with numerous genre influences. Not perfect, but pretty damn good. Low 5 star

Nothing wrong with this album from The Beatles as it's well crafted like a lot of their work, though it's mid compared to Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road. As such, I can't justify a higher rating because even though I like The Beatles, I'm not a fanatic like a huge portion of the music press seem to be. Low 4 star

PJ's first album to net a mercury prize and very accessible, comes close but like Let England Shake it doesn't quite get a 5 star from me though some of her other work probably will if it's on the list.
