1001 Albums Summary

It took me a few songs to warm to this album. It has a lovely warm sounds and has a great voice but none of these songs are memorable.

Surprisingly good psychedelic sounds.

I really like Ladies and gentlemen we're floating in space. This album feels like a stepping stone to that one.

The second half is absolute class, first half is 4/5 so I have to give this 4/5 overall.

Wow!, This fully deserves to be on the list. What an experience. One I'll probably not repeat but worth it once. Seriously hard sounds but seriously impressive commitment to that sound. Brutal and possibly beautiful.

I'd written this off before listening as bland punk rock but the guitar and melodies are really hooky and I loved it.

Sorry Miles, nice chili music but didn't grab me

We need more Billy Braggs. This album is brimming with powerful images, stories and messages of equality that are still so real. That could get weary but not on this album.

I do love David Bowie. I saw him in Auckland once but this is not great

Defining electronica album but but something about the voice leave me uneasy.

Good old school hip hop but the creepy sex packet thing spoils this album for me.

This album includes some massive hits but as an complete album it's pretty strong too. I liked that weird track near the end. Good to get something rough in there and not just polish.

I'm sure this was exciting at the time but now sounds background.

Easily one of the best albums ever.

Mmm. I'm still not a Meat Loaf fan. I knew more of these than I expected, and they brought back some funny memories of karaoke, but it's too overdramatic for me.

I've never been a big fan but quite enjoyed this lounge music without the (overplayed) hits.

Not Quadraphenia but I like how rough some of it sounds

I was surprised by how fresh this sounded. They have finally grown on me

Aaaah, they did that song that Nirvana covered! I enjoyed that one. The rest where interesting but doubt I'll go back for more.

I love Quadrophenia but always round Tommy overrated. Still classic track that lift it to good

Free flowing, full and funky. One of the Beastie boys best be sure.

Very late 60s.

I was expecting Peaches but got a very eclectic set of bonkers songs from the 60's. I love this period and experimentation but not quite there. Best track is the first one.

Love shoegaze and the Cocteau Twin sound but I just can't get fully into them, not sure why. Maybe it's more about the songs than the sound for me.

A few songs on the first half are not so strong ornl would have been 5⭐

I've never been a fan of Arrested Development Still not. Enjoyed the retro sounds though, and appreciate them pushing something more positive than some of the hard mans shite of the time.

Best Coldplay album. Excellent.

These songs are still brilliant and the vocals stunning. I'll listen to this again.

I've never heard the link with Bruce Springsteen below but some of this sounds like Springsteen's early albums, some like Petty.

Luka, Gypsy and Tom's Diner good. Although Tom's Diner better as a dance track.

For some reason I didn't listen to their at the time. I would have loved it. The skill on show is phenomenal. Unfortunately it feels a bit creepy now

Ok the Stones a basically a blue band but I think I expected more from this famous album. There's a lot of standard blues here. I didn't find it a creative as the previous few albums.

The Beatles make the best albums, and this is one of their best.

Better than I expected since I normally hate glam funk like Parliament. This is more rootsy. Quite nice.

I want to like this. I listened to a lot of Neil when I was young and his songs feel part of my history, they helped me learn the guitar, inspired me to write my own songs. What happened with this album?

There is something raw and basic about Devotional Songs that is irresistible. The passion is palpable and the rhythm is intoxicating. This is the sort of stuff I'd like to have more of on this list.

I like the merge of Punjabi sounds with UK 90s guitar and trip hip but there just weren't enough hooks for me.

Not my favourite Clash album and only 3 out of 5. I might listen to it again. To me this sounds like they've lost their edge from earlier albums.

These guys can really play their instruments and there are interesting moments but I think it's by sheer luck. This just sound like random riffs to me and nothing truly memorable.

This was a Morrissey album I didn't know so well beyond the singles 'fatty' and 'friends'. I don't think I've missed out. As ever Morrissey's lyrics are weird and even though provoking, but musically this is missing something.

When hop hip was fun. Too much gibberish between tracks that just gets more annoying with each listen but the tracks are exceptional so great album overall.

I know this album well and it's a true five star.

Like the other J Cash prison album in this list, this is class.

I'm not a disco fan but I found this acceptable for a while.

I didn't warm to this. It sounded like some obscure indie outfit from 2000s so I Guess ahead of it's time?

Just like later Blur album this flips between brilliant and nonsense which overall makes for a terrible album.

I'm really not into jazz but this this just gets under my skin with its grooves and funky flavours

I don't normally enjoy live albums but the ones on this list have been excellent. The Who sound phenomenal on this. Shame about the creepy story, that's hasn't aged well.

Some great songs but a whole album of ABBA is too much for me.

Limp bizkit get a hard time these days but at the time they tapped into the tone of the era. Honestly, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. Yeah okay. The lyrics are childish but the music really varied

Portishead created a sound that is copied to this day, and this album has beats, loops and glitches and good as anything they have done. I just couldn't get into the melodies.
