The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

His voice infuriates me in an indescribable way
Liked Songs: One I love/Welcome to the occupation Hated Songs: End of the world as we know it wouldn't really choose to listen to it again if I had the choice
More Ella Fitzgerald than I ever really asked for. Not going in depth on anything because the album is 3 hours long. Not really an album, more like a collection/boxset imo. I got rythym is a classic, the rest vary from listenable to good--there isn't any trash here. The worst songs of the album were the instrumental pieces because it was the same as the previous 3 hours just without Fitzgerald's voice (the only reason you would still be listening at this point). Since this one is so weird I'll give it a 3/5 overall--no 5/5 songs, a solid bit of 4/5s spread throughout, and the rest are 3/5s (except the instrumentals, how dare you give me instrumentals at the end of a 3 hour album--1/5s for all of those songs for even thinking to include them)
Favorite song: Change gonna come/Ole man trouble/loving you too long (good album) On you don't miss your water: the timbre in his voice becomes more raspy as he escalates in volume and tempo causing the feeling of desperation to ramp while he realizes how much he misses the partner he cheated on/let go and reflects that it's his fault that he didn't realize how good he had it. It's cool that at first it feels like he is preaching to the listener about something vs towards the end he is crying out because he's talking about himself. The control in his voice at the beginning contrasting the desperation at the end helps tell a story. Think Respect is my least favorite, but it's not offensively worse than any of the others the trumpets replacing the guitar riff in satisfaction is kinda fire, but I think overall I like the rolling stones' version better strong 4/5
Favorite songs: Rag Mama Rag/Up on Cripple Creek Least favorite: Across the Great Divide I wish artists these days brought actual instruments to the studio. Sometimes I felt like I was playing that guess the instrument game from headbangers with the amount of random instruments they would use in each song. Some of these invoked a heavy nostalgic vibe for my music history class from my AA (I imagine Ben Folds was inspired by this type of folk rock when he wrote 1 angry dwarf and 200 solemn faces, which might be my favorite song I discovered from that class). The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is a bit grating at points and almost hit the least favorite list. On the higher tempo songs, when they hit a groove it's pretty damn good. Also the fucking wah wah pedal and ORGAN on Up on Cripple Creek ? Oh hell yeah, give me the funk These mfs know how to make music, yeehaw brother This is an honest 4/5 which is crazy ngl, was not expecting to enjoy this one at all really
this feels like your prototypical 80s album--the synths, catchy choruses, shouty vocals, variety of instruments/percussion, high emotion music that generally makes you want to move. best song: New Religion worst song: my own way? marginal, it's all pretty good rating 4/5
There's a lot of intricacy to the instrumentation in some of these, and I really really enjoyed some of the vocal work--particularly in the latter half. Feel like this one lends itself well to late night listening. Not too many highs or lows for me, just an okay listening experience; might need to try again in the future, but I couldn't make it through a second listen for now. A 2.5/5 that I'll round to a 3, nothing offensive but nothing special.
I tried. Not a fan of live music recordings generally, and am DEFINITELY not a fan of 20 minute songs. I made it through disc 1 and I think that's enough for me. It's not bad per se, it's just not my cup of tea. The lack of vocals make me want to say that it's more geared for passive listening, but then it just becomes kind of annoying noise pollution to me. I really liked the call and response between the vocals and the guitar in Strange Kind of Woman, and The Mule brought about memories of Whiplash which is always fun. Smoke on the Water and Highway Star are classics. Best songs: Smoke on the Water/Strange Kind of Woman Worst song: Space Trucking (I just can't stand 20 minutes for a single song) Overall I'm feeling a 2/5--it's obviously good music that paved the way for a lot of other bands, it's just super not for me.
I couldn't tell you the name of a single song on this album, but I would describe the sound as lo-fi country? Honestly good work music, I enjoyed it and even threw it back on for the ride home. Acoustic albums are always a nice change of pace to all the synthesized stuff that's more popular. Best song: Idk it's all the same in my head Worst song: Lonesome Tears kept ringing in the left side every 4th beat and was annoying as hell 3/5 decent, would consider throwing it on when I need some background noise
Nah
Shit slaps ngl Worst song: animal zoo Best song: Mr skin? idk the entire album is a jammer--too busy at work to identify specific songs, but this album was grooving the whole way through 4/5
I went in fully expecting to hate this because I saw it was a live album. What a pleasant surprise. Worst song: Devil's dance, just dragged a tad for me Best song: the first 4 songs absolutely set the tone that this was gonna be really good. Don't have time for in depth review--but I love how the symphonic orchestra adds more story telling and aids Metallica in conveying emotion. It feels like Metallica is putting on a movie of all their best tracks and the orchestra is the backing track that helps shape said movie. So good man. This is an apprehensive 5 star, if this was a studio recording of metallica+the orchestra it would be an instant lock for 5.
Yoooo this was pretty good. I'd give it a 3.5 but I'll round up to a 4 because it was short and sweet and let it play through multiple times. divorced dad music for sure worst song: Good Times Roll best song: all mixed up
Some grooves and some snoozers, pleasant background noise. Was a fun mixture of genres for sure. Much stronger finish than the start Worst song: Darkness Darkness/Sir Francis Drake Best song: Sunlight/Beautiful
Oh brother. Thought this was okay for most of it but I stopped lying to myself on the last song cause I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Some of it was just early 2000s video game music (or lethal league), very repetitive for the most part but not infuriating. But good god that last song made me want to put my head through my windshield. This is the type of music playing in the background as Johnathan Wickathan clears out a club. 2/5 still better than Kollaps
Easy listening, fun enough
Pleasant listening, music to drive down the highway to. Best song: Winter In feels nostalgic as hell, I really vibe with the vocals on Tears of Rage, and For a Spanish Guitar was fun and gave American Pie vibes Worst song: I would never intentionally listen to this cover of Stand By Me I would give this a 3.5/5 but I let it play through multiple times--there's just something soothing about this one, I'll round up to a 4. I don't think any song in here would ever be a favorite, but sometimes an album just sets a nice vibe and that should be appreciated.
Robo Mr. Krabs would love this one. Imo this album lands right im that area where it is too repetitive/boring/uninteresting to listen to actively, but too loud/energetic/annoying to have as background music. Just meh 2/5
Was hating it on the car ride to work. Ended up letting it loop the entire work day. Fire. 5/5
It's Led Zeppelin. Let it play the entire day. 5/5
Extremely forgettable after take on me, the mixing has some songs way louder than others, and it just felt like a drag to get through.
Can't imagine why this is on the list. Inoffensive and boring? Nothing stood out as either good or bad, just a resounding meh for me
Gave it 2 shots because of the cult following it has--idk just not a very fun album to listen to. I know it's not supposed to be "fun", but really I feel like I got 20 minutes of good music and 20 minutes of noise surrounding it. I don't really care if the noise has some deep meaning, it's kinda just annoying to listen to. When the music gets going it's good, and the transitions between songs are so smooth.
Titular song is absolute fire, easy 5/5 song. The rest is just alright, nothing worse than like a 3. It's a 3/5 album, but damn if every song was as good as moondance this would be top 5.
Surprisingly enjoyable. Best song: Wait and Bleed This is a 3.5 rounded down, pretty fun--could be a bit grating at points
It was okay. College dropout and late registration clear this by a good bit. 3.5/5 rounded down.
Was unengaging to me, wasn't awful but I just can't see this being a necessary inclusion on the list
This album has really, really high peaks and a few misses. Best songs: Smells Like Teen Spirit/Something in the Way/Lithium Worst songs: Territorial Pissings/Endless,Nameless Boring/basic but whatever The riffs are timeless 4.5/5 rounded down
mehhhhh, feel like this is just spoken poetry over some background music. Might be great, but isn't what I am looking for in an album
Perfectly listenable, perfectly boring
nah
Some okay songs, but a lot of them are super annoying. 2.5 rounded up
Fun enough 3.5 rounded up since I let it play most of the work day
His voice infuriates me in an indescribable way
Too many timeless bangers and too much nostalgia to be anything but a 5
Mostly unmemorable, sometimes annoying
It was alright, nothing too special
4.5 rounded up--love queen, and a queen fantasy themed album is right up my alley
Pretty good
3.5 rounded up, feels nostalgic even though I didn't exist when this dropped
Fire, left it playing all day 4.5 rounded up
Nah
Inoffensive background noise
3.5 rounded up The hits are good, everything else was kinda more of the same (in a bad way)
I hate whoever kept whistling, you justify my disdain for live albums. Boring as hell, overly self indulgent--I get that the only thing you know how to do is play guitar, but that doesn't mean I want to hear you do so in a badly recorded snooze-fest of an album. If this was a studio recording it would be a 2/5, but instead it gets a 1.5 rounded down--it's not as bad as some of the 1 stars I've given before, but I hate how boring it is and I can't imagine this being a top 1000 album of all time.
3.5 rounded down. Enjoyable sometimes, okay others
Feels like how I picture nirvana in my head, but with a sprinkling of really hard to listen to songs. The amount of dissonance in some of the songs is too much for me. Interesting enough. 2.5 rounded up (if I listened to it again I'm sure I'd give it a 2, but I think that would just be me getting even more annoyed with songs like Fantastic Disaster)
Initial bangers but lost me in the second half a bit, 3.5 rounded up
4.5 rounded down--it's beyonce
4.5 rounded down, don't see how anyone could hate this. First song is the worst one, but still decent.
4.5 rounded up, a lot of bangers and at its worst is still listenable
This BLOWS--HALF THE ALBUM'S RUNTIME IS THE ANNOYING ASS LAST SONG WHY TF. This was a 1.5 rounded up until the last song hit. 1 star, the people who made this are musical terrorists.
50% slightly obnoxious, 50% slightly enjoyable 3/5
I just can't get past the vocals. Everything else is fine, but it just sounds like a mosquito on the mic. Too much vibrato/dissonance and too constant for me.
Let it run many times. Bangers galore. 4.5 rounded up
Honky Tonk 2/5
4.5 rounded up Fun one
I was glad it ended 1.5 rounded up
most average album I've gotten so far. 0 chance it should be on this list, but inoffensive more than anything else
Some decent blues. 3.5 rounded up
This was fun background noise 3.5 rounded up
Hell yeah brother
Just background noise for the most part, neat, but nothing groundbreaking for me 2.5 rounded up
First song is a classic, the rest is pleasant but nothing super special
Unmemorable, beatles soundalike
Good dad rock, easy listening
Feels like a guy talking at random volumes and varying energy levels over an okay instrumental, for 43 straight songs Actual lyric : "TWINKLE TWINKLE...blah blah blah" They were just blasted as hell in the studio and saying whatever random garbage came to mind FOR FORTY THREE SONGS. 1.5 rounded up, not unlistenable just super meh
Strong 4, good vibe album
forgettable
dog there are just too many of these club albums on here, I can't imagine ever listening to this outside of a club/rave/whatever situation.
Goat Shit from Elton 4.5 rounded down
decent as mellow bg music 3.5 rounded down
Pretty annoying often enough, but not miserable overall. Don't see why I would ever listen to it
5, easily.
