Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Feb 11 2025

All I really want - Harmonica and triphop back beats folky rock lyrics. Song about finding a soul mate and how much she wants one. Tasteful use or vocal effects and breaks. Sometimes she projects with a rap cadence. Nice first song. Upbeat opener You outta know - Much more pop criteria, provocative lyrics speaking to her ex. Bassline is popping. Climactic chorus with clear memorable singable lyrics. Catchy guitar line. Clearly outline Alanis sound as pop almost punk with relatable.and angsty lyrics Went through rest of album. Some classics. But overall I'd say it's a consistent output and showcases her talents. Always worth a listen and I listen to the big tracks fairly often!

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington
Mar 26 2025

Not my fav jazz style. Big band with lots of tongue in cheek playing and a showy feel. Has a great version of take the a train. A great introduction to the sounds of big bands in the mid 50s Ellington is a master of his sound sadly I Don't think this recording showcases the best of his writing style. I much prefer the tape with coltrane. Was a long concert back then! Didn't really appreciate the intros between tracks but still gives it an authenticity.

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp
Apr 11 2025

Standout album first listen I was too busy but gave it a second try and understood the mastery

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Apr 15 2025

Wow incredible. 4 epic tracks that showcase how to take a soul track and expand it to 10 min long epics that don't lose intensity throughout. Considering this Is 1969, it deffo has been a key influence for the progression of soul, funk, even hiphop. Hayes is hypnotic throughout. Overall perfect album that redefined the sound of soul music
