Purple Rain set the bar too high for me.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Apr 23 2025

Normally with old albums i try to put myself in the mindset of the time of its release to try to contextualize it, and often that makes the listen more interesting. That didn't work for me with this. It's toothless. I'm sure it's a historically important album but i can't see myself ever listening to this again.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Apr 24 2025

I've unwillingly heard about half the songs on this album. I'm not going to purposely listen to the rest of it. I know what's going to happen: a great bass player, some other decent musicians and a horrifically annoying singer are going to make the dumbest decisions imaginable and somehow conclude that this should be recorded and released to the public

The Clash by The Clash
Apr 25 2025

More listenable than the Ramones, less interesting than early XTC. Bonus points for leaning into the accent hard

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Apr 29 2025

This might be the most Beatles sounding album of any non-Beatles album I've heard

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
Apr 30 2025

Fuck no, I'm not giving this dipshit my time or the fraction of the penny he'd get in streaming revenue. I've heard that stupid song thousands of times, not gonna see if there are any surprises on the rest of the album. Go shoot guns at woke beer you freak

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
May 01 2025

With a gun to my head I'm forced to choose between Radiohead and Oasis. I beg to pull the trigger.

Ray Of Light by Madonna
May 02 2025

Can't do it, can't get through this album.

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
May 03 2025

I don't remember the last time a song hit me as hard as Four Women just did. Holy shit.

Very by Pet Shop Boys

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
May 07 2025

Buddy had an amazing voice but I'm not enjoying how he used it, and don't find the music interesting. I believe I'll be exiled from Montreal for giving this less than 5 stars

Purple Rain set the bar too high for me.

Scum by Napalm Death
May 16 2025

What. I can't believe this is on the list.

American Gothic by David Ackles
May 23 2025

Keep looking for that audience, Davey

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
May 28 2025

I'm just happy to be able to put a name to these songs

Dummy by Portishead
May 30 2025

It might not be an exaggeration to say that literally everyone likes this band more than I do. Still better than Radiohead though.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Jun 01 2025

I was really expecting to hate this but it was nowhere near as bad as the hits I've heard a billion times over the years. Way better than Radiohead.

Jun 02 2025

I want to pretend I'm cultured and give this a higher rating but no, honestly I'm just ignorant and bored. At least it's a kind of pleasant boredom, background inoffensive mall music, unlike the aggressive boredom of listening to Radiohead.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Jun 08 2025

I fucking hate this. The first track sounded like digital Oasis with better vocals, which is as much as an accomplishment to my ears as a chef describing their food as better than dog shit. And then everything got worse. They completely lost me when they cannibalized that Can beat. I might hate this more than i hate Radiohead

Smile by Brian Wilson
Jun 13 2025
1984 by Van Halen
Jun 17 2025
Smash by The Offspring
Jun 21 2025

This album is a thousand times better than the half dozen songs I've heard from them before. That said, I still hate it. More fun than Radiohead, that's a for sure right there.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Jun 22 2025

These guys always sat in an uncanny valley of heavy music for me, in a similar area where nu metal ended up. There's some great heavy parts but the vocals yank me out of it. I'm not saying buddy wasn't a great singer, or even that his style doesn't suit the music. I just don't like the way it all comes together. That said, they're way better than all the other shit that was going around in the early 90s, the Pearl jams and the Nirvanas and all that other slop. And of course, better than Radiohead.
