Funkay

I liked this one in college, but didn’t enjoy as much listening now. Also thought he was American this entire time until looking his bio up today! Into The Mystic was probably my favorite track on this album but the rest is a little too old man for me on this particular one. I’ll give it another listen in 30 years.

Liked this when I was younger but I think I just enjoyed The Beatles because I was supposed to. Some tracks I enjoyed on the revisit: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Rocky Raccoon, Helter Skelter. Not an album I would want to listen to every track on but has a mix of styles throughout to make things interesting.

Could never get into their music. Jacksonville and Chicago are decent tracks.

Solid album start to finish

Not my style but Why Hip Hop Sucks in ‘96 gave me a laugh.

Haven’t heard this one before. Great two tracks that pair perfectly with a gummy.

Some classics/gems but I needed a lot of drugs to fully appreciate some of the other songs on this album

Decent listen if you’re in the right mood. Like camping. Or a slow drive through country roads.

Surprised this J5 album made it… Quality Control is way better.

Recently been exploring this era that I missed and appreciating it more. Alive is a great soundtrack to rob a bank to. The rest are excellent for violently passing a slow car on the 405.

We want the funk

She had such a great voice and was a nice break from mainstream music at the time.

That was… a journey. A new genre of Space Rock discovered and now I’m wondering what the meaning of life is, where it all began, and what time the aliens are arriving.

New to me, never knew much about the grunge scene aside from the big names of the 90s out of the PNW.

Out of all the bands of this era there is something about The Killers that I just don’t like. I tried to listen again with an open mind but they don’t do anything for me. Maybe live would be better…

Great album start to finish

Actually pretty surprised by this one. Never knew much aside from a few hits. Beautiful voice and she’s got some soul.

Good album if you ever find yourself driving in Texas. Hilarious that ya’ll are listening to it in the UK 😂

Never really got into them before but obviously heard a lot of their music. Cool to experience.

Points for original sound and voice, and throw back to the 90s. I could never get beyond the vocals though - always struggled to get into their music because of that.

Classic. Not the best era of Waylon, which is still yet to come, but a great album for “outlaw country” back when country was country! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

What a throwback. When this first came out, I was only 5 or 6 years old. But I remember it so vividly on the radio and through my brother’s friends. It was so out there and in your face. Very much a 90s California “F You” fresh sound to my innocent ears.

Man, what a talent we lost here. I don’t listen to her stuff very often but damn was she good. Soul. Character. Poetry. She had it all. Solid start to her too short lived career.

Close to a 5 star rating, this album is sublime

Never heard this one before since it’s a newer release. Would give it a 3.5, overall a fun ride.

This blew my mind when it came out. The departure of Big Boi and Andre 3000 as they (well, Andre 3000…) started going in different directions. This was certainly an album of my younger years.

One of the great hardcore punk bands, out of DC nonetheless! Fantastic album.

Original, cool as ice, and an artist with one of the best car collections. What’s not to like.

Probably overplayed it so it’s lost its luster but some good tracks to revisit on this one. Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key is a good one.

A classic and genre-bending album to change how we heard and viewed music. The Summer of Love, will we experience something like that again?

Quite surprised by this one. Never really heard his stuff. Really nice voice and could have had an interesting career if he didn’t drown to death at age 30.

Wish I was hearing this for the first time in the 90s again. Just a bit overplayed to the point where it’s hard for me to judge fairly now.

The opening track is actually decent “Slow Burn”, the rest I lump in with the rest of bad modern country music.
