This was a new album for me. Reminded me somewhat of 90s Weezer, Blur or Sloan. The horns on Presidential Suite had a similar feel to Walk on By and I really liked the hard right turn to industrial for the last two minutes of No Sympathy.
I knew the singles from London Calling but didn’t realize I had never listened to the whole album. I was surprised how diverse the songs were.
Common People is such a great song. The rest of the album was ok. I wouldn’t turn it off if it was on but I wouldn’t seek it out to play either.
I forgot how violent and offensive this album is. Maybe I'm getting old but a lot of these songs didn't sit well with me. Still need to give this a 4 because there are some amazing songs on this record.
Great album. Love the mix of hip-hop style samples with grunge and folk. Beck really defined a sound in the 90s
Good album. Running Up That Hill, Big Sky, and Cloudbusting are great songs. The second half “Ninth Wave” wasn’t as approachable or pop friendly but it was an impressive showcase of Kate Bush’s creativity and her use of technology/sampling.
Beautiful and heartbreaking songs.
Neil Peart Is brilliant, and this album is really well done but Rush is an acquired taste I think.
Good album. Alright is a classic great track. Some others like I’d like to know, Mansize Rooster, and Strange Ones really grew on me with a couple of listens
Love these renditions of great Christmas songs. A little torn on what to rate it because at Christmas time it’s a five star but any other time of the year it’s two or three I’ll settle on four.
I felt mixed about this album. I love Sultans of Swing but I wasn’t feeling the other songs. On the other hand I ended up listening to the whole album three or four times so I guess I didn’t hate it.
3.5 Stars
Good album. Layla and Bell Bottom Blues are especially great and there are some great blues covers. Jimi’s original Little Wing is better. 3.5 but I’ll round up to 4
I know there is some deep sophistication in this album but it’s way over my head. I like psychedelic rock but I didn’t like this
I love the cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Renegades of Funk” 😝
What an amazing voice and old soul. Seem crazy that she was so young. The lyrics feel so mature… she has loved deeply, lost, and moved on. I knew the singles but sitting down to listen to the album front to back hits different.
Great album. Helped Gen X ladies get through breakups and made Gen X men. wonder if their girlfriends would go down on them in the theater. Although, I still prefer her 1991 self-titled debut.
Great album and groundbreaking for its time, but not my favourite tribe album. 4.5 stars but rounding down.
I didn’t love this album but I understand how influential it was as it was part of the birth of the Seattle scene and ushered in a whole new sound and style. Without this, would Nirvana, among others, have reached the same heights? I also sense this influenced other bands with big breakouts in the 90s outside the grunge scene (one song made me think of Metallica’s black album recorded two years later).
I love the tune Scooby snacks. The rest of the album was mellow and chill. Not bad
I actually kind of like this album. Looking into his history is even more interesting and it makes meo wish I spoke Portuguese. This album got the singer arrested and exiled from the country because his music was very much against the military regime.
