Roxy Music by Roxy Music

A great album! Really surprised that this was a debut album, because it sounds so self assured and with a lot of complexity in the instrumentation. I really enjoyed the theatrical/glam rock flair to this one- my favourite was when the full backing vocals came in. I put this one on for a second listen right away.

All Ratings (75)

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Dec 16 2025

Album was a bit all over the place, and a bit long. Loved the one-two punch of Sara/ What Makes You Think You're The One

So by Peter Gabriel
Dec 17 2025

Enjoyed some of this album, Sledgehammer is still awesome, but some sounded too dated/80s to be my favourite- really synthy

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Dec 19 2025

Great album- loved this one! I’m definitely going to revisit this one- if had me dancing, but it was also mellow enough to just have in the background.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Dec 22 2025

Dolly’s voice is beautiful, this was a nice listen! Travelling Man made me laugh with the plot twist as well. This felt really classic old school country/folk, and I enjoyed the sound, especially the vocal harmonies.

The Score by Fugees
Dec 23 2025

An absolute classic, I loved relistening to this! I enjoy the way the whole album flows together as a whole, the transitions between songs and little intros really make do an awesome full album listen.

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Dec 24 2025

I think this was a good album, but I also kept forgetting I was listening to it while it was on. That may have been Christmas busyness rather than album quality issue, but it was sort of gentle and soft and kind of just slid into the background for me.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Dec 29 2025

Lots of great songs on this- fun for a party, but I might not just put it on to listen to at home.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Dec 30 2025

Loved this one! I had heard some of these songs before, but not the album- this one is going to be added to my rotation

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Dec 31 2025

I did not like this one, it actively annoyed me. Maybe I was in the wrong mood for this album, but I just wanted it to end.

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Jan 01 2026

Nope! I found this album really obnoxious

Disintegration by The Cure
Jan 02 2026

I really enjoyed this one! There were a lot of beautiful melodies, and this just had a nice feel to it and overall album flow. I knew some of the songs but not the whole album- a nice discovery!

1999 by Prince
Jan 06 2026

Prince is of course great, but I don’t actually listen to him that often. This was enjoyable, although an extremely horny album. Some of it sounded quite dated, but some classic sounds as well.

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
Jan 07 2026

Absolutely loved this album- wasn’t expecting to like it so much! This one’s going in the rotation

You Are The Quarry by Morrissey
Jan 08 2026

Some pretty cringy lyrics, but he has a nice voice! I’m not sure I would consider this particularly deft political commentary, lol

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Jan 09 2026

I really enjoyed this album! Different from other ones that we have listened to. I liked the psychedelic sound, and the melodies and vocal harmonies were really pretty.

Jan 12 2026

This didn’t sound like country to me, but it was really gorgeous music! Ray Charles has a beautiful voice and I enjoyed that classic big band sound.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Jan 13 2026

I loved this album! Fiona Apple is such a great songwriter and has such a unique voice. The way she plays with atonal sounds in her melodies really scratches an itch in my brain.

Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned
Jan 14 2026

I actually put on the live performance of this album rather than the original- when I realized I left it on because the live recording was really fun. Really talented musicians and really catchy music, I enjoyed this! I liked how when the music slowed down a bit and they brought in the piano it had a real glam rock sound.

Roots by Sepultura
Jan 15 2026

This was not for me

Jan 16 2026

I love Queen but wasn’t blown away by this album- I think they have better ones. Just okay for me!

Jan 19 2026

It seems like I should like this more than I do, but I Oasis isn’t my favourite. Very nasal? Don’t Look Back in Anger is a great song though.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jan 20 2026

An absolute classic- I love Simon and Garfunkel! Paul Simon’s amazing song writing and Garfunkel’s beautiful voice. Was such a treat for this to be the daily album! Also one of the best album covers ever, lol

Risque by CHIC
Jan 21 2026

Not quite what I expected when I saw a disco album coming up in the lineup- I actually loved this! It was so smooth, with nice beats, but had a kind of mellow charm to it. And the vocals were beautiful! This would be a great album to put on for a chill party.

Jan 22 2026

This album was fine? A bit all over the place. I find Ceelo to be really gross as a person, which I think influenced me to not like some of the explicit lyrics.

Jan 23 2026

I wasn’t that familiar with the Kinks, and I loved this album! A nice mellow vibe and lots of great melodies, I will add this one to my rotation.

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Jan 26 2026

Great album! I knew the singles but not the album- and also I didn’t realise so many hit singles were on the same album! I like the strong melodies and anthemic quality- the kind of songs that are fun to sing along to in a crowd. Deducting a star for terrible lyrics.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Feb 03 2026

Interesting to hear such early REM! It was a nice album, but to my ear they didn’t quite have the strong melodies yet that I associate with them. Some of their songs sound a bit like the Cure. Pretty good!

Aha Shake Heartbreak by Kings of Leon
Feb 04 2026

I enjoyed this album! They’re clearly very mix of rock with a bit of a bluesy, maybe a touch of country influence, sounds really good. It is fun to listen to with a fun, high energy vibe.

Run-D.M.C. by Run-D.M.C.
Feb 05 2026

This album is a cool time capsule, but isn’t something I would actually want to put on to listen to. The style of rapping is just so dated and slow! This whole album is surprisingly slow. There were moments that I was really enjoying the intros and beats and then the slow rapping came in and the track loses momentum. Favourite track was Jam Master Jay.

Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex
Feb 06 2026

What a great discovery! I loved everything about this album- the lead vocals were stellar, great lyrics, I loved the atypical arrangement of having brass included in more of a punk sound. Loved it! Looked up the lead singer Poly Styrene, and she had such an interesting, inspiring, but also sad life. There’s a documentary about her that I would like to check out.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Feb 09 2026

An absolute classic album! I love the way this album feels- it has good energy but also a relaxed feel. It just made me feel good to listen to, this is going in my rotation!

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Feb 10 2026

I can tell this is great musicianship, but this type of jazz is really not my thing. I don’t really like the saxophone, and I find it is a bit too intense to be mellow background music, but not exciting enough to be foreground music.

Third by Portishead
Feb 11 2026

I like Portishead, and enjoyed this album- but it isn’t their favourite of mine. I really enjoyed the vocals, but sometimes found the electronic beats overly repetitive, and some of the background noises were a bit distracting.

Planet Rock: The Album by Afrika Bambaataa
Feb 12 2026

This is another album that I found really dated, and didn’t enjoy that much. A lot of the background sounded like a video game or soundtrack, which was kind of interesting- but not my favourite. The rapping- similar to DMC- felt so slow to me!

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Feb 16 2026

An absolute classic! Gorgeous voice, beautiful melodies- a really beautiful album.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Feb 17 2026

This was a cool historical artifact! She had a lovely voice and I enjoyed it, but probably not one I would want to relisten to.

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
Feb 18 2026

A great album! Really surprised that this was a debut album, because it sounds so self assured and with a lot of complexity in the instrumentation. I really enjoyed the theatrical/glam rock flair to this one- my favourite was when the full backing vocals came in. I put this one on for a second listen right away.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Feb 19 2026

I loved this album! Perfect “getting stuff done” music, a good beat, but mellow feeling. The different samples made for really fun and interesting listening- definitely going in the repeat pile!

Liquid Swords by GZA
Feb 20 2026

I enjoyed this album! The martial arts movie samples were cool interstitial pieces, and the beats were fun to listen to. I really didn’t catch most of the lyrics, so I did feel like I was missing stuff- but that’s probably my fault.

Who's Next by The Who
Feb 23 2026

I wasn’t sure I would like this but then I was enjoying some of it- some of the instrumental arrangements were cool and unusual, and the vocals were great. And then Behind Blue Eyes came on and it’s just the absolute worst, self involved dreck. Bleh.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
Feb 24 2026

Obviously Trent Reznor is crazy talented, but I don’t enjoy this music. I find it really stressful to listen to. I also find the difference between the loud and quiet parts to be too big- if I had the volume at a good level for the loud parts, I couldn’t hear the quiet parts- it’s set up to make sure you blast it basically… maybe I’m just too old for this.

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Feb 25 2026

So much blatant misogyny in this album- the Puff Daddy connection makes increasingly more sense as I listened. Unfortunately this album is a fantastic, all the songs are absolute bops. I’ll take one star off for hating and abusing women? I don’t feel good about this, lol

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Feb 26 2026

This was a really nostalgic sound for me, because it sounded so classically 90s alt rock. I enjoyed this album for that reason, but didn’t enjoy the more screamy parts as much as the more melodic songs.

Opus Dei by Laibach
Feb 27 2026

I actually really liked this album, strange as it was! It was a fun listen, and I liked the high energy, theatrical flare, and the lead singer’s awesome voice. Some of orchestration sounded fantastic- someone should lift some of these sounds for a sample for a new pop song. Borrowed that horn sting from Life is Life and make a number one hit!

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Mar 02 2026

I enjoyed this! I was just thinking we haven’t had any African music yet. I loved the piano and the vocals that came in at the end were great. When the album was more classically jazzy I enjoyed it less- there is a kind of jazz that kind of aimlessly noodles around that annoys me- but fortunately there was only a bit of that here.

Mar 03 2026

James Brown is crazy talented and I enjoyed the live album aspect and hearing the crowd go wild. In terms of actually enjoying the music- it kind of leaves me cold for some reason. I think funk just isn’t my favourite.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Mar 04 2026

The lyrics on this album are so terrible and heavy handed, it’s like they decided they needed to do a socially conscious album but had absolutely nothing to say. I also felt like the gorgeous layered harmonies that the Beach Boys are known for are missing, all in all quite disappointing.

Heavy Weather by Weather Report
Mar 05 2026

I didn’t care for this- I don’t really like jazz. It always feels a bit aimless to me. The one track where there were vocals and a rumba beat perked me up, but it was short lived.

Mar 06 2026

Very interesting to get this album as part of this project, because it felt very referential of an earlier British rock sound. It had a very 60s/70s feeling to the beginning of the album- some of the tracks sounded a lot like the Who maybe? But then the album got all loud and deconstructed in the middle- combined with the title I think they were doing something really ambitious here, trying to reinvent older rock sounds for a new era. I’m going to give it 5 stars just for ambition.

That's The Way Of The World by Earth, Wind & Fire
Mar 09 2026

This was a really fun, upbeat album- and the vocals were fantastic! I would put this on for a party, it has just the right high energy vibe for that.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Mar 10 2026

I love this album! I liked how it varied from a very psychedelic, experimental sound to a really stripped back acoustic, almost folk sound. The really pretty, simple vocals and strong melodies kept that jumble together really nicely.

Punishing Kiss by Ute Lemper
Mar 11 2026

She has a great voice, but I don’t really like this style of music. It was very show tune/musical sounding- which I don’t mind if I’m watching an actual musical, but I don’t care much for it as an album.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Mar 12 2026

Great album! I love Joni’s style of folk singing- but this album was sneaky and changed into a jazz album part way through. Jazz isn’t my favourite, but it was nice to pick up the pace and hear something a little different. My favourite song was from the first half of the album though- I loved Free Man in Paris. The harmonies on that song were great- I wish there was more of that all the way through the album.

Fuzzy by Grant Lee Buffalo
Mar 13 2026

I really enjoyed this album! It had a sound that reminded me a bit of the Pixies, but with more of a country or folk undertone. I liked the vocals too, I think I will be returning to this one.

OK Computer by Radiohead
Mar 16 2026

This album is a classic- I still love it! It was interesting to try to listen to it with fresh ears, the vocals, melodies and varied instrumentation are all so good! But I failed in my objective relisten because I fell deep in a nostalgia hole listening to Exit Music.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Mar 17 2026

Billy Joel is clearly really talented, and I love singer songwriter… but this music is so cheesy to me. I couldn’t really get into it. She’s Always A Woman was a stand out for me- my favourite track on the album.

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Mar 18 2026

What a gorgeous album! I know a lot of the songs, but hadn’t heard the album. Very glad to add this to my relisten pile. Very simple acoustic arrangements, but the melodies are gorgeous, and he has a unique and beautiful voice. (Side note, listening to this also made me realize I have been conflating Nick Drake and Nick Cave… and I had a sprinkle of Nick Lowe in there confusing me further- it’s all much clearer now)

Blur by Blur
Mar 19 2026

This album was immediately getting a 5 as soon as I realized that it had ‘You’re So Great” on it- I love that song so much! This album is all over the place sonically, but I think it works. Some tracks sound like American rock, some sound really retro- 60s and 70s inspired. I had to look up M.O.R. because it sounds so much like Boys Keep Swinging by Bowie, and sure enough he has a songwriting credit. It’s interesting how Song 2 was the big hit out of this album- because nothing else on the album really sounds like it! Kind of a fun experiment.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Mar 20 2026

This was such a nostalgic pick for me! I listened to this album so much in high school, but haven’t really since. I really enjoyed listening to it again. I was struck by how many hits are on this album- I think it has 4 singles on the radio from this single album. My favourite is still The Drugs Don’t Work- so pretty and sad. It’s interesting how all the singles are the slower songs, when you listen to the whole album they are interspersed with more fast, louder songs- which makes for a great overall album experience.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Mar 23 2026

I’m sure these musicians are very talented, but for me this was the most bland background music. I sort of forgot it was on while it was on.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Mar 24 2026

This was another 90s throwback, but this style of music is just not for me. I find it really grating and loud to listen to. Just not my favourite.

I Am a Bird Now by Antony and the Johnsons
Mar 25 2026

This is a longtime favourite album of mine, I was so happy when it came up on the list! Anohni has such unique and gorgeous voice- the way the vocals have that tremolo is so beautiful. Nothing else quite sounds like this album- and it is so powerfully emotional. Love it!

Harvest by Neil Young
Mar 26 2026

Great album with some of Neil Youn’s best songs n it- although I was disappointed that Harvest Moon wasn’t on there- it’s my favourite and I assumed it would be there because of the title. Some truly wonderful, timeless song writing on this album. I do slightly prefer the live at massey hall album with a lot of the same songs though if I was going to choose- it’s great hearing the audience react to these.

Elephant Mountain by The Youngbloods
Mar 27 2026

This album felt all over the place to me, some of it sounded like children’s album? There were a few simple songs that felt like they had potential, but overall this felt like a bit of a mess.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Mar 30 2026

Some absolutely classic songs song by a master of her craft- this was great to listen to and had me dancing around my kitchen! If I have one criticism, it’s that this didn’t feel as much like a cohesive album to me- more just a collection of songs (if that makes any sense?)

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Mar 31 2026

Haven’t listened to this in a long time- but this reminds me of Dad! I love this more as a historical artifact, I love the crowd interactions and the bit where Johnny jokes about the tin cup of water. This also has some great classic songs on here- but I did find the song selection a bit depressing/low energy. Maybe that makes sense in the setting though.

Tanto Tempo by Bebel Gilberto
Apr 01 2026

This was a pretty fun listen, but it did fade a bit into the background for me. I found the vocals really strong and the beats pleasant- but I also forgot I was listening to this sometimes.

Achtung Baby by U2
Apr 02 2026

This is pretty classic U2- great big sweeping melodies and great vocals. The only version of this album I could find was a deluxe anniversary edition, and it had all these self indulgent extra tracks. Maybe I would have liked the original better? But I ended up feeling a bit annoyed by it.

Apr 03 2026

Talking Heads are a real nostalgic band for me. I didn’t know this album very well, but found that it had a lot of the classic sounds that I love. I think they borrow a lot from soul music, but really make the sounds their own, and it very danceable and upbeat. Take Me to the River was a real stand out!

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Apr 06 2026

Super talented musicians, particularly the singing! Some of the songs sounded very dated/disco- but I found a lot of the album really stood up. Can’t go wrong with great vocals, layered harmonies and danceable music.

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Apr 07 2026

Like A Rolling Stone is a fantastic song, but I felt like the rest of the album didn’t hold up to it. In some ways this is a bit of a frustrating listen- the lyrics are so opaque, and a bunch of the songs are just spoken poetry. When he actually sings I find the songs much better. I like Bob Dylan and this is supposed to be one of the great albums- but it didn’t really do it for me.

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Apr 08 2026

This was just a simple, gorgeous folk album. Beautiful singing that reminded me of Joni Mitchell, and the instrumentation was great too. I loved the violin in particular. A nice discovery!
