raw soulful album. gets you invested in the song, beautiful to listen to
It's a nice jazz album. Not the jazz i am used to but i really enjoyed listening to it. The instruments which were part of the arrangement surprised me at some parts but im also not so knowledgeable on how music was when this album came out. My favorite track was track c the part in the beginning is just stuck in my head. I would definitely listen to this album again
Nice album, Lyrics and Instrumental are nice, however this album is not my taste in music. I found it a little boring or rather nothing special, but I no way was it bad, just not my kind of music

I had a very good time listening to this album. The production and Instrumentals are very nice. It has this early but bright vibe to it which I really enjoy
i like the sound, the flow. However i couldnt get over the fact how he talks about women , it irked me and made it hard for me to listen
I really like this album. I think Elliott Smith has such a sad voice, that sounds weird, but it really fit the theme of the album and just made it so emotional and beautiful. Because it's such a sad album, I find it hard to listen to at all occasions, but when I'm in the mood for it's perfect and the best album for that situation.

I really like this album. I haven't listened too much David Bowie before this but I liked this album a lot. The jazz and rock elements were really nice, also since they are to of my favorite genres.
I'm not someone who usually listens to this kind of music. It has some really nice tracks that have a really nice "vibe" to it and are nice. The other tracks weren't necessarily bad, but didn't really stick out to me. It is nice to listen to in the background though.

The instrumental AND music is great. However the lyrics aren't.

The beats are very nice and I automatically start to bop my head while listening to this album. However HipHop is not really my style of music but I still enjoyed it.

This rating is actually a 3.5. This is the second album by David Bowie I got listen to thanks to 1001 Albums and I am very grateful. He has amazing songs and like in Black Star: Bowie + Saxophone = perfection. There are so many parts in songs that I really liked.
While his songs are not bad I have a really hard time listening to his voice. It makes it hard to understand what he is saying and kind of ruins the listening experience for me. Instrumental and production wise the album is quite nice though.
When I hear the first track I just immediately smile. The album is so good and I live the Bigband elements/ brass section.
While I did enjoy this album. It's not my style of music I didn't hate the songs or anything but I wouldn't necessarily listen to this album again. It wasn't bad though
A nice album. The live recordings make it very immersive because one can hear the people in the background talking such is really cool
Kind of Beatles vibe
The saxophone solos are always hits. This album is definitely with soul. And there's a lot of headbobbers (songs that make your head bob). However i think when it comes to soul there are many artist I would rather listen to. While this album was good overall I prefer his other albums I got to listen to. Fame however really stood out to me, definitely a fav on this album
So many iconic songs on this albums. Loved almost all the tracks. And I'm so glad to have some albums from female singers.
So this is one of the worst rated albums on this. And I understand why. I like listening to music because I connect and create to the music or because the voice, instrumentals and production a good and nice to listen to. And this album didn't do any of it. However it was so different from what I expected and I had more fun listening to this than some other albums on this list because it was so different and I refreshing. In addition my ability to speak German might be the reason my experience is a little better than others because I know what they are saying.
The album didn't speak to me. It was not necessarily bad however nothing drew me in. For me personally it was boring.

No bad songs but a little boring. Nothing really stuck out to me. But didn't feel the need to turn it off it was more like background music. Sometimes it got a little more exciting but overall a little bland

The sitar has a very pretty sound.
Very vibey, I had a very good time listening and it was good. I love the saxophone and the addition of the organ. Not something I hear often but it just gets me relaxed. 3.5

I thought a lot of the lyrics sounded like they were written by a 1 year old. It was funny sometimes and fun. But I couldn't listen to some of songs simple because I was cringing a lot.
It is not bad. But it is very lyric focused and as someone who doesn't speak French it wasn't very interesting. I probably would have given it a higher rating if I understood what he was saying. 2.5
The songs with the female singers were good, the rest was not really my jam. Not necessarily bad, just a little boring for me. 2
