2.5/5 Neither here nor there for me. Didn’t think it was bad, but it also kept sinking into background noise every time I tried to listen to it so it never got to good or great.

Landmark album

The majority of the songs come off like wannabe Rage Against the Machine, except Kid Rock forgets to include any of the politically and socially conscious lyricism that makes RATM so compelling. The country rap songs (which I thought were supposed to be the hook of the album) don’t really stand out or have been done significantly better by other artists. So no, Kid Rock, you did not in fact “stomp all over you test of time.”

Imagine making an album and just casually having two perfect songs like “So Fresh, So Clean” and “Ms. Jackson” back to back. Just like that. Then again, the thing about Stankonia is that's it's all perfect songs.

I’ll admit, I don’t know the first thing about what makes for good Samba, but I do know that I enjoyed the easy listening this provided. Clean, simple. Immaculate vibes.

This dropped in 1979, but if you had told me it was a mid 80s release, I totally would have believed you. Most of this feels like a precursor to the sonic pallet that would dominate the 80s in the best of ways. And the way Faithfull takes advantage of her new vocal range following the severe laryngitis and drug abuse she suffered from is so impressive. Hit the hardest for me on “Why’d Ya Do It.”

4.5/5 This was funny as hell. And when “Corona” hit that first riff, I shot up in my seat so fast. My brain couldn’t believe we had come across the “Jackass” theme in its original state.

4.5/5 Idk what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. Not mad though, it’s such a unique collection of songs with a consistent theme, if not some differing musical approaches (does that even make sense? Idk.) Also funny to hear Tom Waits sing after only ever having seen him in movies.

I’m one of those annoying people who goes around saying how much they hate country albums, but I’m starting to realize that’s probably cause I’ve been listening to the wrong albums. These are some of the most beautiful and moving songs I’ve heard in a minute. I was on the verge of tears at points.

As annoying as I find the Gallaghers, they do make great music.

It would be the least surprising thing ever if I was to read Bjork was heavily inspired by the Slits. Edit: well would you look at that

The first half was so sad it made me want to kms, the second half was so happy I wanted to do a little jig out in public. Great stuff.
