1001 Albums Summary

A few decent songs but most of them felt too long and fairly uninspired, like someone was throwing a party for themselves and I just happened to be there. Maybe it would seem better with multiple listens—I love the songs I've heard a ton (1999 & Little Red Corvette).

Some great tunes, some that feel more meh, a real product of its times, a snapshot of 1971. I enjoyed listening even though it's not "my kind of music."

Almost unlistenable I like a lot of Radio Head but this was painful, what I was able to get through. It felt more interesting than good. I couldn't even finish it.

I really enjoyed this album and was glad to discover what the VU was really like. Great sounds, with the exception of the Murder song which is weird and punishingly long. Interesting Jesus song. This is an album I will probably come back to and explore other VU albums.

Great first song, blues, fun and easy to listen to Second song, messagy, not something I'd want to listen to more than once Third song, sweet, smooth Lots to enjoy on this album. Some of it seems driven by making cultural statements while other songs feel more driven by the music.

Very nice sound, kind of like WRTI plays in the after dinner hours, somewhere between lively and mellow I will listen to this album again, some really nice grooves on here. HM is obviously a trumpeter but there's great percussion and piano here too.

About what I expected from Bjork -- eerie instrumentation, strange haunting lyrics, very deliberate pronunciation of e-ver-y syl-la-ble. I wouldn't listen to this album again most likely, unless I had taken something trippy.

I could be wrong but a lot of this sounds atonal, and melancholy. Weird instrumentation, lots of what sounds like xylophone, droning something or other. Long songs. Would this album be on the list if TB hadn't died so young?

l love this album, Beatles at their best, so many echoic songs, and the whole thing hangs together as a true album.

Great songs on this album, even the ones I hadn't heard before, and the familiar ones are some of his best. I didn't realize how bluesy some of his music was. Some of the rhymes seem a bit forced (pocket/hock it) but whatever.

Were they sympathy votes for BW?? This is so recycled—Good Vibrations? These were good songs when they came out but not again in 2004.

How have I never listened to Kate Bush till now? Her music is weird but really good. It has a Little Shop of Horrors feel at times.

I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times and always love it. Amazing sounds, rhythms, lyrics.

Sounds like it's made by serious musicians, even if some of it is whimsical. I really liked this album and listened to it twice in a row. Very interesting, funny, strange, and enjoyable.

Probably an ignorant take but it sounds like boring reggae to me, nothing remarkable If I were going to listen to reggae, this is not the album I would pick.

I thought I’d love this album, and some of the songs are their biggest hits. But the stuff between songs felt random and it seemed like the album was a bit of a patchwork.

This album has a few of the best CS songs, and several that are pretty forgettable. I don’t know why it is but as much as I’ve always loved Cat Steven’s I can’t listen to that much of him.

Weird Music from the Hearts of Space stuff—seems like early New Age music, and very enamored of electronic capabilities. Sounds like an arcade. So bad … the cheap synth with fake bird sounds. Good lord. No one would listen to this except as a piece of history.

I did not enjoy this music at all. Couldn’t even get through the double album. It all sounded the same, and not that interesting, just loud

To me this is the pinnacle of the Beatles’ music. It listens almost like a greatest hits album.

Oh my word what is this…. It’s also hard to find anything about the album or the musical group. Although the more I listen to it, the more I can appreciate it, especially if I imagine listening to it outdoors.

It sounds like DS are still learning who DS is, and MK is still finding his voice. But the sound is there, and "Sultans of Swing" is as good as any of their songs.

Not as good as some of her albums that came after but very strong

I honestly don’t get what’s special or noteworthy about this album.

I can’t decipher this album. I don’t love the music and the lyrics seem somewhat absurd.

I really like some REM songs—Strange Currencies, Losing My Religion—but this seems to be REM and Michael Stipe at their most annoying, including “End of the World as We Know It.” I did like “The One I Love.”

I like Bill Evans, but I don't love Bill Evans. I probably just don't know jazz well enough to differentiate music like this, so a lot of it winds up sounding the same.

This album is a great reminder of why I don't listen to Madonna. Most of the music is forgettable and the lyrics are vapid.

I really like this album and will probably listen again. I don't always love Stevie Nicks's voice, which is probably why I rarely listen to FM. But there's a lot to like on this album.

This one was interesting, smart, and technical, to my ear. Not something I'd probably listen to otherwise.

I didn’t get into this one as much as I did her earlier album.

This album confirmed that I hate Oasis, and that Liam Gallagher's voice and delivery are impressively annoying. The only redeeming song on this album for me was "Don't Look Back in Anger," which of course Noel sings and not Liam. For me, listening to Oasis is torture.

This was fine … nothing stood out to me much either positive or negative.

If I ever need to listen to a steady drone of angry songs, this is the album. Otherwise not my thing.

I didn't really *get* this album—seems like a bit of a mash-up, techno, rap.... I didn't really enjoy listening.

I love this album. Almost every song has a great hook and the whole thing hangs together so well.

Pretty cool album with exciting rhythms and instruments. I enjoyed the music more than the singing.

This album is awesome. So juvenile, with more sexual innuendos than I could count, and more than vaguely misogynistic. The music is great and it’s all cut from the same cloth. It’s not really my taste anymore but for what it is, sublime. Angus Young’s voice is incredible.

So many things about VH annoy me: his voice, the gratuitous guitar solos, the aggressiveness toward the ladies....

Rhythms are boring, lyrics are basic AF. Interesting historical piece? Not for me.

I've always enjoyed this album. I don't see it as the masterpiece that is "Kind of Blue," but super solid. The last track, "Darn that Dream," is kind of goofy.

Not a fan. I thought I knew who the Pixies were and now I know. Too much. Not for me.

I never listen to funk except incidentally on WXPN's "Funky Friday," but I really like this album. Great beats, guitar, vocals. Lots of fun.

I loved this album. I feel like BB King could get me into the blues, fittingly enough. Interesting to hear BB as a young man. I never heard of him till "Rattle & Hum."

The harmonies are amazing and the sound is legendary. It does cloy a bit and just isn’t really for me now, definitely not a whole album of it.

Emmylou Harris is so good and this is album is great. “Boulder to Birmingham” is one of my very favorite songs, and no one does a better duet than EH.

Great songs, I just can't listen to a whole album of Anthony's vocals and his weird vowels.

“Every Breath You Take” elevated this album to a 3. There’s some weird stuff on here and lots of the songs feel forced or just trying too hard. EBYT has an effortlessness to it. King of Pain is also solid.

Great album, great energy, really interesting beats and instruments. I’ll be coming back to this one.

This is a solid serious album with enjoyable sounds, though I'm not sure I'd put it on just to put it on.
