1001 Albums Summary

I don't listen to very much Johnny Cash. Album made me feel sad and introspective. Standouts are Hurt, I hung my head, and tear stained letter. Cash's performance feels despondent and full of grief.

I'm not a big fan of this so the album won't rank very high. The Murder Mystery is a standout on this album for being the only song that I didn't feel like I had to slog through. Perhaps my personal tastes (and brainrotted attention span) prevents me from fully appreciating this album. Other reviewers have piqued my interest in their other albums so this endeavor is not a total waste.

Didn't realize my buddy was quoting these guys when he would say the boys are back in town whenever we hung out (a hole in my music education) so it was a very pleasant surprise to hear that when listening and triggering fond memories. I went from feeling at best neutral about Thin Lizzy to feeling fond of this and somewhat nostalgic instantly. My broader opinion is this album feels like a pretty generic hard rock album - everything about the music is quality but nothing is super iconic or standout. However, if I was asked what the median late 70's rock sounded like I would probably point to this (which I guess means it is pretty iconic?). If I could give fractional scores this would be a 3.5. I lean towards liking it somewhat based on 'The Boys are Back in Town' alone.

Who doesn't know Free Bird? What a great guitar solo. I resonated with the lyrics to Simple Man. As for the rest of the album I guess I lean towards a tick above neutral. Its alright but I probably wouldn't seek it out. These guys are weirdos for flying the confederate flag though. Free Bird carries hard.

Dreary but dressed up and still ready to go out. The lyrics and performance are so melodramatic it's almost campy. Pretty good. Maybe not something I revisit frequently. I particularly liked One Hundred Years and Figurehead.

Nice and fun to listen to but a little boring. Didn't stir anything within me. Maybe the exposure effect can help me see why this album is so great.

its ok. unoffensive and listenable. Grows on you after repeat listens. I liked A Million Pleading Faces. Vocals kinda sound like if Morrissey isn't exhausted by the thought of living.

It's nice I guess. I prefer The Color and the Shape.

Very nice. Not my usual cup of tea. cheerful and romantic. Good for background sounds.

Kinda whatever.

Oh mama I’m stuck listening to Elvis. I dunno man most of this is just alright. Not something I would seek out.

I know about Eric Clapton. I know about Cream. I didn't know Eric Clapton was in Cream

I dunno man.

Yea good.

nice break from all the rock albums but not notable at all.

Pretty good. Very emotional. My I introduction to Buckley is from TikTok lol. A great mix of sounds.

its a mental struggle to listen to a track that's 26 minutes long.

nice

nice i enjoyed it

good stuff I like MJ

good stuff

I adore the guitar on this album I have a real soft spot for fuzzy distorted guitar tones. However, I am not as big a fan of spoken word vocals. This does sound like one of those pretentious music nerd bands. Breadcrumb Trail and Nosferatu Man sound pretty good. Album starts strong and peters out near the end.

Not bad just kind of boring.

I dunno. Doesn’t really do it for me.

Good.

I don’t really care if this is punk or not. The argument doesn’t feel important. I like this album. Brings back good memories. “We love the whiny and dulcet tones of Billy Joe Armstrong.” We all say together.

Sounds nice I like some of the lorde.

Rest in peace. Maybe I do like some country. Thanks Dolly.

good pop music.

good and interesting pop music. I really enjoy this album.

Not that into it not bad.

meh not feeling this.

Another whiny classic. I like it.

listening to this feels like doing chores.

I liked it.

Jolly good

Layla is really good. The rest of the album is really really meh. I did like Why does love got to be so sad. Claptons a weirdo.

The good: I like the album name If this was supposed to be a movie soundtrack then I don’t want to watch this movie the plot would probably be incomprehensible. Seriously what genre of movie would this even be? movies i think these songs can be in Set the controls: intro to cheesy action comedy Something wicked: gangster movie the vibes: campy murder mystery its business: horror movie about a stalker miles: romcom with a hardworking female lead dirty barry: the same movie as its business in a moment of clarity: whatever movie would also feature rhapsody in blue in the soundtrack Achieved: campy spy movie vermillion: yea idk the big bamboozle: a funny animated heist movie state of contraction: one with a sad introspective scene the sweetest: a musical about vampires set in the roaring 20's set the controls again: credits music to that cheesy action comedy the songs individually are good and do a lot of storytelling on their own, i just don't think it makes a good soundtrack for a single movie. If i lacked the context that this album was supposed to be a soundtrack then i would think this is a very discordant but good album. with context this album fails for me.
