I have always really loved this album, the music itself is great. It creates this feeling of futuristic while also being retro at the same time and it works incredibly well. I love the use of synth and all the drum beats are fantastic. I especially like the vocals, his voice like perfects the sound that the group is aiming for. But I also think this album grapples with some bigger themes like trying to figure out the meaning of life. Yoshimi is the girl who is trying to “fight” with herself to figure it out. She goes through a bunch of stuff and then kind of figures out that right now is what matters, nothing else really does. We have to use the time given to us
This album has grown on me since the first time I listened to it. At first I thought that the middle section of the project was just alright and so held the rest down. But now I see that it’s not mid, this album is great in all sections. The middle isn’t as spectacular as the beginning and end but it holds it own. And being capped by songs like Baba O’Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, and Won’t Get Fooled again, this is the epitome of what classic rock is and it is incredible.
Despite the heavy cultural and political significance of this album, it really isn’t for me. Musically it just doesn’t do it for some reason. I know there are 3 songs that are amazing and incredible, and all three artists of the group are amazing artists, but i just can’t enjoy it. Maybe it’s a bit dated, but it hasn’t stood the test of time so i can’t give it a higher rating than this, though I wish I could.
I think this album has really done well despite its age, it doesn’t feel dated at all. De La Soul does a good job making this feel fun to listen to and they are also great writers, linking in good lessons into the music.
I absolutely love this album. Might just be my being a fan of jams and horns and whatnot but I feel like it has SO much character to it. Obviously a heavily politically charged album that also messes around and has fun playing instruments. The B-side is just so good with Everyday People and You Can Make It If You Try sandwiching Sex Machine, which is just a fun exploration of what Blues Rock can be. Just love listening to some 60s soul/funk.
I don’t quite know where I stand with this one. Obviously it’s recognized as one of, if not the best album of all time. For me I’ve slowly started hearing the song so much that I just doesn’t have that same sound that it used to in the past. That’s not to discredit the genius of the project and say it isn’t outstanding in every sense, it’s just boring to me now. I still think it is an incredible and genre defining moment in hip hop and modern music, just not my favorite. Still, objectively speaking it does everything wonderfully.
I don’t really have much to say about this one. It’s good but like there isn’t much going on here. I enjoy T. Rex’s songs but nothing blew me away. It’s just kinda ok I guess, not bad but not great. Bang a Gong is my favorite from this one obviously, but the positives I see from this song are just subtracted by others song being extremely forgettable.
This feels like any other southern rock album that you come across, not to say it isn’t enjoyable and a great album. I just again can’t point out one song that was especially awesome, definitely above average though.
This album is super fun, like all of the songs are fun and enjoyable, but they don’t have anything that I felt was good. I would only relisten to one song just because the rest was like ok, not good.
I love Herbie so much. This album is just so funky in the best way. Obviously, Herbie is an incredibly influential person when it comes to modern jazz, funk and just music in general and he did that through this record. His use of the synthesizer defined the genre. “Chameleon” does such a great job at exploring this new type of music and he does wonderful job at tying older jazz, Miles Davis esque, to modern day jazz.
Solomon Burke obviously has an incredible voice and incredible talent, I feel this album is just missing that feeling to it that makes you just love listening to it. It’s almost as if the songs are watered down.

I really enjoyed this album. Rhcp are an awesome group and put together some amazing art. The three singles off of this album might be some of the best work out out by the band throughout their entire tenure as a group. It has the crashing metal moments, but I think it’s in the quieter more somber moments where this album really finds it soul.
SYNTH! The synth throughout the entire album is done amazing and especially in the intro. The group founded by a guitarist who is recognized for his incredible skill really found itself in their keyboardist on this record. In this one Van Halen really left their mark.
This might be the best post punk album ever. From the start schizophrenia opens with a nice drum kick and riff, and from there it just keeps going. Sonic Youth had a hard time creating a mainstream sound, actually they likely didn’t even want to, and when they made this its perfect. It feels like laying back and taking a nap in the summer, it feels like a roadtrip. This album is just incredible.
This album is fast and furious. The group fully encapsulates the punk rock sound, and plays it well. The guitar riffs and the drums just hit super hard. It doesn’t earn a 5 from me just because it feel repitious, as many punk albums do. But I do love this album.
I appreciate the energy that comes from every song on this album. The blues mixed with Songhai sound does work for me. This album is very consistent, every song has good energy, that being said every song is just decently good. Nothing particularly grabs my interest; it isn’t a tedious listen but it isn’t one that I need to return to ever.
Hmm well okay, I was asking to be shown something different. This album definitely has its fun parts, good pop songs. What I don’t really love is the random sound of the whole album. The Algerian music is definitely not for me, but I can appreciate it. I can’t give it a one because I see why people love it but I just don’t.
I know there’s people who don’t love this album, they find it boring and perhaps dated. I believe that it is one of the most influential albums in modern music, and it is also absolutely deserving of being considered one of the best albums of all time. I LOVE The Velvet Underground and Nico. It’s weird in the best way, they aren’t normal and they are musicians.
I LOVE this album. Portishead does such a good job creating that dark and mysterious sound. Taking hip hop beats and then taking all of their pomp and making it heartbreaking is something that no one does quite like Portishead. Perfect to listen to on a quiet, depressing rainy day in the pnw. Definitely makes a list of my top albums
I really like the switching between Bjork and the backing singer, it adds some variety to the album that works really well. There is a lot of fun and poppy tracks on this like motor crash, which is super weird but I think it works really well. Bjork is obviously a standout with her incredible vocals but I think for this album to be a bit better it just needs to be a bit less goofy and get their ideas down. Birthday was really great.
This album was life changing is definitely in my top 10 albums ever if not even in my top 5. This work is intense, it makes you feel an overwhelming sense of everything. You have an overwhelming sense of dread, of fear, you have a taste in your mouth that just won’t go away. Spiderland delivers on these feelings that are so immense that we really can’t let it go. A breakup that just won’t go away. Like stepping into a dream in which you’re awake but nothing feels real. Spiderland is the pinnacle of post rock.
