What a phenomenal set of voices and wonderful vibe. Last century beach music as sung by the Strokes. Delightful

Why hasn’t anyone ever told me about this. They’re so great. Never gets too adventurous, but sits comfortably in their desired zone. They have such a great blend of bossa nova influence, which never gets old to me, but never rely on it so much that it becomes derivative. The 2000s style indie rock mix makes this oke of the most incrddibly unique and absolutely delightful albums I’ve listened to in a long time. I need to listen again. I never heard of Little Joy, but I know and like the music of The Strokes and Los Hermanos and members of these bands created Little Joy. To my surprise that origin did not result in music that can be directly to related to those two bands. This album is filled with beautifully composed small South American pop and rock songs. Within this "genre" it covers a wide range of rhythms and melodies. As such it sounds like a South American version of the Magnetic Fields. Great songs are "The Next Time Around", "Brand New Start", Shoulder to Shoulder", "Keep Me In Mind" and "Evaporar". That's almost halve of the album. So yes, it's amazing.

Another one I’d never heard before but instantly loved on first listen. Feels like a Strokes x Beach Boys crossover I didn’t know I needed, straight into the regular rotation.

Little Joy is at its best when you're not really listening. A pleasant, warm, technically accomplished bossa nova and California pop blend that falls away a bit. The Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel era comes to mind, that same lounge-lizard retro quality that works better as atmosphere than as foreground listening. Which is fine, but not really what you want from an album submission on a list like this. Decent. Just doesn't excite.

You end up on a deserted island in the 1950s. It doesn’t matter how. After days of wandering, you find a water source and some coconuts. You won’t die, but now you’re forced to wait. And wait. And wait. Some indeterminate time later a radio washes ashore. Where did it come from? How did it get here? Why *just* a radio? The answers to these questions are undoubtedly mysterious, but even more mysterious is the fact that the radio WORKS. You turn the dial slowly, searching for a signal. Finally you find one! So faint and scratchy, you crane your ear until you can hear some far off melody. That’s what listening to this album feels like.

I liked this, it's a unique sound - an intersection of Latin ballad and kind of later Beatles-esque pop. Well written and well-performwd.

2008, Alt/Indie Rock Fantastic album. I've listened to it several times over the past week and have fallen in love with the voices and style. This did bring a little bit of joy

This is really nice. Strange how much it reminded me of the Strokes, even though I know it's only the drummer from the Strokes who is in the band. 4 stars.

This gave me more than a little joy

The musicians are exceptionally good (indeed, a "supergroup"), and the vibe is chill and nice. It deserves a space in such an essential albums list, but it's not exactly my kind of chill (I prefer Los Hermanos and The Strokes in their "original" forms), so I need to rate it with a bland 3 (even though it's for sure better than a lot of other 3s I gave here)

The album notes described 'sauntering melodies' and that turned me off but this was pleasant

It brought me a little joy

Fun, carefree little EP with some solid instrumental depth. Loved the lo-fi production and hint of Strokes influence brought by Fab, surprised this never came across my radar. One of those albums that I will probably bump for a month and suck all the serotonin out of, but look back fondly on as a time capsule when a track comes up on shuffle. Solid add, always love finding/addressing a musical blind spot with the user list.

A supergroup gathering Binki Shapiro, Los Hermanos' Rodrigo Amarante and The Strokes' Fabrizio Moretti, Little Joy offered me quite a pleasant listen this morning. Yet, let's face it, the proceedings are a bit toothless. It's simply the naughts retro-rock international jet set doing what they do best, with a large serving of Brazilian music-inspired tones, owing a lot to Amarante's participation of course. "The Next Time Around", "Brand New Start" and "No One's Better Stakes" are the clear highlights here. The rest sounds instantly forgettable. The selections of my streaming service's algorithm after the album ended also suggest this album doesn't really stand out from the pack, as "nice" as it is. Interestingly, through those suggestions I discovered Rodrigo Amarante's solo LP *Cavalo* and everything seems to indicate it is an underrated gem. Incredible album, far more subtle, and yet more emotionally impactful for me. So many thanks to this user who suggested this Little Joy LP.
