“Hey fellas, I’d like to get a band together. I want the drums to Sound like I am banging someoen‘a head against the curb until they die while I talk about 400 years of oppression to my people. While I am doing this I want a skinny guy with gold teeth and a giant clock around his neck to encourage me. I would like to add heavy metal guitar over much of the music and if we play live I’d like to have military grade weapons in most of our hands Sound like a plan?” - chuck D
I tried but anything that feels and sounds this much like a Renaissance festival isn’t helping anybody.
Always remember - that is a woman playing that bass. Girl F@ckin Power!
This is a great album. Coldplay’s overplayed hits & media personas may lead one to lose sight of their innovation and artistry. ‘The Scientiist’ is cleverly crafted and executed perfectly. The album’s concepts and sequencing are very well thought out - great opener with a touch of turmoil, plenty of soaring chorus builds bathed in reverb, and somehow the sparseness of the guitar makes it that much more impactful. On a personal note, I will never forget performing Green Eyes’ at my friends Rob & Peggy’s wedding.
the zippo lighter album (which you can open!)cover puts this in the same genre as TLT Scratch n Sniff EP! Love how there is a bit of R&B/Motown in a few songs (High Tide/Low Tide) - also dig Tosh's lead vocals on Stop that Train.
stinks.over-rated. painful to listen to.

Innovative and Bad Ass. outstanding Tag Team. Did not get 5 stars because the album overall was songs that were Grand Slam hits (miss jackson, so fresh/so clean, Hey Ya) mixed with songs that were just 'meh'
Rock N Roll chops! 2 rock masterpieces with Walk this Way and Sweet Emotion. The rest of the album is pedestrian bar band blues. Steven Tyler has a great rock n roll voice. The final track of the album seemed to be a blueprint for their ballad hits they went on to have 30 years later.
Take Space Odyssey and add robot sounds, japanese girls, a luscious bass sound, and a blatant Cat Stevens rip-off and you have this album. (they had to split royalties with Cat STevens for opening track which sounds exactly like Father & Son)
Druids. Rivers. Flutes. Today, this music sounds like a joke. She is cute, she hung with VU, and like her voice so I’ll give it a 2
Never heard this before. I like how they created a ‘sound’.
I like the Smiths but can’t get into this. - Pete
Wow. Forgot how amazing this is
It sounds like Austin Powers' parties. . . maybe this san diego band from the 60's inspired the Doors up in LA.
Masterpiece.
I tried but anything that feels and sounds this much like a Renaissance festival isn’t helping anybody.
Love the guitar on ‘in a silent way’ - in reading about this recording, Miles and the guitar player could not get on the same page and the tracks they used were the ones he played when Mikes told him to “play it like a novice” - guitarist was John McLaighlin
I gave this a try but failed to see the magic.
I Know this is critically acclaimed but except for sign of the times and I’d never take the place of your man I think most tracks on here are nothing extraordinary
Never heard this - this is great country music! Her voice and the production is a sweet kiss of Americana
Thank you 90s!!! I remember reading once that the one thing the Red Hot Chili Peppers collectively agreed on is their crush for Liz phair
Never heard this - like Gomez and burning spear fronted by a rabbi
It’s not just Elvis that is magical it is the band - man- those cats can play!
Iggy’s first 2 albums have Bowie fingerprints all over it - you have to listen closely on some tracks but you can hear Bowie. He’s out in front on others like sweet sixteen - those dudes were partying their asses off and living in Berlin
One of the greatest voices in the history rock n roll
Next level Creativity + craftsmanship and musicianship of these 3 is worthy of praise
Not my cup of tea but I can see why people like it - makes me wonder about Laurel Canyon in the 70s. Some great guitar playing and fun to hear Neil Young in there - great album title.
Amazing how Kim and Black Francis vocals intertwine - both voices have the right amount of grit. This band met in the online personal of the Boston Phoenix paper. . . The ‘sleeper’ in this album is Joey Santiago’s riffs - magic tones that are spaced out perfectly. Love how their music is tight in parts ans has pop sensibilities in other parts but is also loose and raw.
He may deserve the genius moniker but I’m not in love with the Ray Charles Big Band sound
Love how the first few songs are about the morning and so he’s wearing a bathrobe in cover shot (possibly smoking a roach clip). This music is way too corny for my taste but Harry seems like someone I want to be friends with. I think he was having some fun making this.
1st hearing this - I like it!
Great stuff - Had no idea they were such amazing musicians.

While they are One of my favorite artists and they have a few albums I would give 5 stars this album is just a glimpse of what they could do. The innovation is groundbreaking - led zep riffs over beats with Jewish guys rapping. Absolutely nobody was doing that or had even thoughts of doing it. Handful of tunes are in here that are classics - I love how the sign when you enter we Brooklyn says no sleep til Brooklyn
I fucking hate this shit: in terms of ‘things wrong with this world” I think the fact randy Newman has boat loads of money and is showered with awards is in the top 10.
KD - I am embarrassed for you. This is so sappy. I don’t believe in cancel culture but if I did the first thing I would cancel is this album.
Athens GA represent! Love the girls voices and the sounds of the guitar is great. How did Fred get that job?
Just stop it. Stop
Groundbreaking - on many lists of greatest albums of all time for good reason
A high school Staple for me. Love how you can hear the band beginning to shed their hardcore skin. Love how this band clashes melody into raging guitars. Androgynous was light years ahead of it’s time.
garbage.
I wish Neil had a manager or friend who would have just told him that the ‘man needs a maid’ song should go to the trash heap. . . Many brilliant classics rock songs on this gem. One of my favorite opening album songs of all time - you feel like your in a pick up driving down the PCH
Lose a bag of money: try to gamble on soccer to win it back. Go to pub and do drugs Get stoned with girlfriend and watch tv, get in row with girlfriend, go to pub and try to pick up hot girl, insult her and get in fight. . ZThis album is pure gold.
Never heard this before - pretty bad ass - such a tough sound. I defiantly have ‘n word’ fatigue - Rap has got to evolve - the first track is horrible
The music is not great but, man, do I want to party with these guys!!
Feed your Head you hippies
Never heard this. Pretty bad ass - The textures and layers - geez
I know he’s a genius but I wasn’t in a Stevie wonder kinda mood
One of my all time favorite albums. Love the songs and the dynamics of the vocals. The guitar and drum sounds are quintessential bad ass Black Keys. The sleeper on this album is how well they incorporate the keys.
Masters of their Craft. This music makes me want to lift weights, fight, drink, and end up at a tattoo parlor getting inked on my back with a picture of Zeus throwing a lightning bolt into the eyes of a jet black panther.
Icon. That hard driving sound was uniquely his. While it was not a marketing playing in a prison helped brand him as a rebel and renegade
Their sound and energy comes rip Roaring out of the gate with their debut / I think their songwriting skills were still in development - to be on display on later albums
One of the most important bands in rock & roll.
Dig it
Bowie was always versatile - he shifts around from rock songs to more theatrical type performances. I love how he tries different vocal styles for different songs. Also love Mick Ronson’s guitar sound and his playing. Jean Genie’ and ‘panic iin Detroit’ are the 2 stand-out tracks. The stones cover and some of the theatrical pieces aren’t great: the album is a 4 but he gets an extra point because he is David Bowie - one of the greatest rock n roll stars of all time
These guys were before their time with this right? 1965! Sounds like they are having fun
This was recorded when Bowie lived in Berlin with Iggy Pop as his roommate
Clever but just too mellow for my tastes
Always remember - that is a woman playing that bass. Girl F@ckin Power!
It’s scientifically proven that if you listen to this album for 30 days straight it will increase the estrogen levels in your body and you will grow tits:
