What an incredibly bland album. It is hard to believe someone listened to the 1089 and then thought this is the best album to offer next!
Beige. Weak. Twee. Overly produced. Nothing special. Like Purity Ring, but shite.
Another very bland album. Cringe lyrics like they were written by teenagers. I did not enjoy this at all. Just really lame and beige and made me quite irritable
Yes! This was a relief. Something with a bit of spunk and substance. I liked it a lot! Meaty and fun
I didn't care for this at all. Beige, boring, predictable, samey. Not interested
I was disproportionately happy to listen to an album I actually knew and liked. And also have more faith in this new list now.
This is a fantastic Big Thief album. Not my favourite but I still love it. So many hits. BT are just such prolific and strong song writers. Can't believe how much they chug out. Changing style but still so iconically BT.
I got into them when I first moved to Brighton in 2017 and Capacity was my soundtrack to that time of life. Incredibly reminiscent. This band means a lot to me! Seeing them last year was one of gig best highlights ever.
Absolute dog shit. Nothing else to say about that
I like Courtney Barnett! This was a good listen. I like her chilled out voice and vibe. A pleasure
Yeah this was fairly pleasant! Was only ever an intermittent Lumineers fan, liked the odd song. But it was nice enough to hear! Reminiscent of a time which is always nice
Did I like this? No I did not. And what a shame if was 1hr 30mins. Look I can appreciate that was epic, that was a lot of music. Some of it intricate and complicated, talented musicians but so much of it was just too much. Like the prog rock stuff just feels like an intense person chewing your ear off at a party who you can't shake off. This was like that. Like I said, I can appreciate the talent within it. But I did not enjoy this
A nice surprise on this! Very much reminds me of 2017 and just having moved back from Australia. It's a great album. Very artistic. Interesting. Varied. Fun. Love it
What in the lame emo was this. Not good! And way too long. Cringe embarrassing lyrics
Yeah this was a really solid listen. New to me but I could totally listen again. It was definitely the kind of rap I can get on board with it. Just cool
I have no idea what to make of this. I can't tell if I liked it or not. Like maybe a not such good Beastie Boys. I didn't hate it but wasn't like massively into it either. Middle of the road
This was hard work and I wasn't enamoured with it. Kind of just waiting for it to be over. Imagine it would be fun live in a lively bar but I found it draining tbh.
I didn't care for this much I'm afraid. I'm not sure it was bad I just generally didn't mind it in anyway. Ambivalence
I feel very confused by this one. At first I thought oh no, but there were some songs that I thought had good riffs. It felt creative and a bit mad but also kind of fun.
Yeah this was quite good! James is obviously a big fan and I bet if I had seen the play I reckon it would mean more. Loved hearing Justin Vernon. I think I appreciated it, but didn't totally love it. Some songs more than others. And I can't help but not be into listening to albums with a narrative where you're not seeing it. Tricky one to rate! 3.5?
Not my bag! Maybe it wasn't bad. I don't known just not my thing.
Well like what was I supposed to think of this? It was really long too. No thanks
Yeah this was pretty fun actually! I wish I could give it a 3.5. wasn't 100% my thing but I enjoyed that it was upbeat and light hearted. A couple of songs I didn't like so much... pawn shop got a bit annoying. But overall... Good!
I'm having some intense hormonal emotions and rage ATM and this was exactly what I needed to chill me the f out and put me in a much better mood. I really loved it!
I could have this on a lot. Excellent background music
Was not a fan of this! It was long and onerous.
Yes this was perfectly enjoyable! Quite long but good fun. Not all of it spoke to me, but enough did
This was just boring pop to me. The last song was a bit Imogen Heap which I didn't dislike quite so much. But the rest of it, no
This took me by surprise! At first I wasn't that impressed but some of these songs were amazing. Totally reminded me of elements of First Aid Kit, Angel Olsen and Lana Del Rey.
I'm certainly interested to look into more of her stuff!
What a great album! It always feels risky with artists who have been around for a while doing newer releases but this has been very well respected and for good reason. Robert Smith's voice still holds up really well and I think the music has kept the essence of what everyone loves about the Cure.
You know what why not!? This was good fun. I enjoyed it. I wasn't sure what to make at first but it was just light hearted fun rock. It would make a good party band, particularly the covers!
This was unusual wasn't it?! Not sure really what I made of it at all but I don't think it was my thing. I find story lines a bit draining
I found this very dull and it's not because I don't enjoy minimalist/lo fi stuff I just don't think this was very good.
Yeah this was fine! Didn't think much of it. Be good music in a bar but didn't do much for me
I was pleased for James this came up! What a riot. Its a lot of fun. High energy.
Yeah this grew on me a little. At first I wasn't sure but by the end I felt it picked up quite a bit.
It wasn't particularly good overall but I didn't hate it either
It's a bloody 5 star isn't it. Another Bon Iver masterpiece. I love this album and it particularly reminds me of my time living in Melbourne and walking to work (2017). I come back to this album a lot anyway but was delighted to see it in the list and have another reason to listen to it.
Are we being trolled? Don't get me wrong Rachel was my favourite S Club member (the best pop group of all time) but did this belong on this list! It was a good laugh to listen to but I'm not sure is worthy
This was a good nostalgic listen! The purer simple days of pop punk. Love it
Kudos to Bob for not upgrading to a stage name. Mould is a pretty tough surname.
The first song was my favourite and the others were pretty good! I don't feel super strongly about it though
I was never a big Death Cab fans but I know a lot of them! Some of it was just that bit too American nasal somewhat emo vibe for me, BUT I did like some of them. I remember loving A Lack of Colour from this album and was baffled I still knew the words having not listened to it for 15 years or more? This is all nostalgia value for me and can't say it's still my thing
I cannot remember how I know of Procol Harum but this was very good. It was a nice surprise as I was expecting something too psychedelic for me to be able to engage. But this was bluesy and fun with good riffs
I am as ever torn about the National. Sorry Benji and James. I have enjoyed their stuff in my 20s but it doesn't appeal in the same way. I find it a bit more samey. Some of it I think has beautiful melodies and stuff then others I just think is quite boring. Maybe you have to be in the right mood
Just overwhelmingly 80s for first thing in the morning. I didn't hit the spot!
Wow I have no idea what to make of this! What WAS it. I often complain that albums are too samey but wow this was all over the place. And I'm not sure that was a good thing. No coherence. Despite it being varied I still didn't like the songs individually. Too long too
I thought as listening to this that this was probably music I would have enjoyed more in my early 20s and then a song popped up I did listen to in my early 20s so there you go. On listening now some I liked more than others but overall probs not my bag!
This reminded me of some Tom Waits songs... And that's not a good thing. Just tiresome!
This was gentle and sweet. I didn't know it at all.
I'd be interested to listen again. Pretty melodies
Yes Fontaine's DC! I really need to explore them more but this was a riot. I understand their popularity. Fun but gritty
This was kind of strange and unexpected and elements reminded me of MBV. Which I liked! I wasn't totally in love with it but definitely appreciated a lot about it
I fully resented this. Everything about it. Horrible folk knock off. Cringe beyond belief. Predictable lyrics and songs. Just terrible.
Not the one for me. But I appreciate that it is probably impressive music and obviously very popular. I just can't
I enjoyed the vibe of this and was into it at first but by the end it was all entirely the same really. No differentiation between one song and the next. Disappointing as I did like it
I have enjoyed getting to know John Martyn his the albums challenge and this was another nice one. I like his style. It's very soothing
I didn't get this at all and it felt like a knock off of other better bands. Nothing unique. Boring
Hell yeah! I absolutely loved this. So varied and cool and fun.
Perfectly fine rock album! Jaunty and upbeat. Easy listening. But wouldn't go back for more
Wow I didn't expect this! Circa age 16 I was a very big Damien Rice fan and absolutely loved this album. I gradually phased out but listening again now, I still really enjoyed it and respect the music deeply, even if it wasn't something I'd reach for normally now. This was massive nostalgia for me and it's mad how many lyrics you can remember. Delicate is probably my favourite. But lots I loved
I found this quite insufferable. Cringe. OTT. twee. Not good.
Wow what a nostalgia hit from my early 20s! And this album in particular was so big. We saw them at Ally Pally and it was a riot. Incredible gig.
I have to say now listening I don't think it is as incredible as I thought it was at the time. But I totally still appreciate it and enjoyed listening. Fun times!
Totally passed me by. Unmoved
Yes this was quite fun! I didn't totally love it but I enjoyed it enough
Oh it's just exhausting isn't it. Just too much..
Wow this reminded me of mid teens. Not that I liked Postal Service in particular but this was so the vibe! Will Hardy era. I have no idea what I make of this now! I think it might be bad...
Whatever this style of singing is, I can't stand it. I didn't like this at all.
I already vaguely knew this band as Luke likes them and have played me them before. A good laugh and I like that you can tell their Aussie accents.
This was pretty fun actually. I didn't know what to expect but the album was varied. Like the disco ones best
I truly hated this so much. What juvenile crap is this "I can't do a 9-5 because noone has a mind like mine, noone writes lines like mine" etc. what embarrassing self congratulatory nonsense was this. This spoilt 1hr 1 minute of my holiday in Majorca
This was cheerful and enjoyable! A welcome tonic after Kano and even Luke approved.
Good easy listening.
What unimaginative nonsense this was and genuinely awful singing. Laughable at points. Stupid lyrics. Not a fan
It's James' album! How exciting. And I will be honest with my review, and James knows I won't spare his feelings after my Taylor Swift review...
This was fun and punky and fearless. It reminded me of the stuff I liked about Green Day back in the day. A good time! I happily enjoyed this while getting ready for the beach in Majorca
What a strange album. I listened to this on a beautiful beach in Majorca and it was not the vibe but nevermind.
It was weirdly emo and intense and I had no idea what to make of it but didn't like it
This surprised me! I really liked it. Such a mix of things going on but all worked really well together. Elements of Mogwai, Godspeed!, even Black Country new road. Even the heavier almost metal type bits worked as they built up to it. Enjoyed the ambient sections too. Would listen again
She didn't get better than I Just Met You... At first I thought this was going to be a really solid pop album but quickly lost interest as it went on and my attention wandered. Shame as she did have pop potential. I'm sure other people feel differently
I enjoyed this! Fun lyrics and light hearted. Good stuff
Yeah I really liked this! Particularly the parts that reminded me of MBV. But it wasn't just that I thought it was spunky and cool
Well it's a great great choice isn't it!
I love this album and reminds me of when Luke and I got together. The first night we spent at his we watched the live show together. Happy memories! Banging tunes! It's a 5 star
This was exactly the album I needed after a weekend moving house. Cool and calm. Love a bit of ambience from time to time.
Nah not for me I'm afraid! Just not my thing twee country ish songs. The synthetic flowers one particularly got to me
Quite fun and a good laugh. Up beat and light hearted.
I already like this album and the first song is my favourite Talk Talk song. What a relaxing and interesting album. Greatly enjoyed listening to this!
It's a no from me. Not good
I enjoyed this vibe actually! Some of it appealed to me more than other parts but overall I thought it was good.
Left little impression on me but didn't make me angry or upset either
Waste of time. What was the point
I enjoyed this more than I expected to given the front cover. Just done fun rock really! Enjoyable
Fuck yeah! This was great. I absolutely loved it. What rich fun music. Varied and interesting.
Solid punk! Funny lyrics. Bold and spunky. Have seen videos of this band, fearless stuff
Exhausting. Such cringe lyrics. What do people mean in songs where they says "If I should fall" my god the most overused of meaningless lame lyric. Not my bag
Quite intense music! Enjoyed the initial songs and not so much the end.
Nope! This accompanied a stressy trip to Sainsbury's and it didn't help. Not my bag. Irritating. But did like references to pigs, as always
Perhaps a little too much dissonance for me. I didn't hate it though
Reminded me of Pavement at times which I liked. But I wasn't blown away
I am already familiar with Storm from this album and have probably listened to this ages ago. Enjoyed giving it a proper listen!
Agree you have to be in the mood for this probably but I enjoyed it a lot. Some really pretty parts and satisfying builds.
It's a no from me! Just no. In some many ways
I never really got the John Mayer hype to be honest. Like I can appreciate that he is a very talented musician and can write appealing music but it has never clicked with me. Perfectly pleasant though
I did not know what to expect of this! It was a total mix of things but I actually quite enjoyed it in the end.
This completely took me by surprise! Had no idea what to make of it but I found it quite fun! A little mad and all over the place but varied and enjoyable
Yeah I appreciated this! It was a good listen and what a good soundtrack for the film. Atmospheric, futuristic but also vintage. Good stuff! Nice to have a soundtrack on here.
Naturally I respect and appreciate Beyonce but I have to say this isn't an album I care about very much. Didn't do it for me
I particularly liked the first song on this! Wild and weird and interesting. I got into it!
I already liked Joan As Police Woman but didn't know very much. This was excellent! A couple of songs I really liked on it. Fun and interesting.
Not my bag. Just didn't care
I don't really understand how I know certain REM songs but I do! They're solid songwriters, cannot deny that but it's not all massively my thing tbh. I appreciate them for their legacy though
I really enjoyed how this album started and then it faded a bit for more towards the end. But still overall strong and interesting!
Wow this felt violently 80s! Full on! I didn't love it but it was fun nostalgia and easy to visualise the perms and outfits bopping to this on TOTP
I haven't explored Sam Fender but I understand he is a popular chap. I reckon I would have bloody loved this in my teens. Melodic indie/pop stuff. For me now, it feels a little vanilla but I can see it's good fun, well written songs. I understand the popularity but won't go back for more
Beige boringness.. never got why people like them. I feel they try and rip off other artists too much. Matt Healy is a bad egg right?
I enjoyed this and mostly because it has In The Middle on it, deeply nostalgic as the song I recreated for music tech AS Level... "I" with significant (SIGNIFICANT!) help from Tom Williams. I.e. Tom did a huge amount of it.
Thank you Tom. Some great indie classics of the 2010s
Not my bag. Noisy.. I imagine live would be fun but was just sort of waiting for it to be over listening on Spotify
Plinky plonk! Perfectly pleasant back ground music and I am appreciative of the skill but doesn't do much for me, personally
This was lovely and soothing and I did know at least one song. Not all of it was completely my bag but on the whole I liked it
Not my thing found it a bit boring but it not like I think it is bad!
I really liked this. Ambient gentle bliss. Enjoyable and interesting. Would listen again
Atmospheric! And funny to see another Godspeed so close in succession. It was great! And some really pretty parts. Creative and weird and interesting.
Straight up! Good lyrics, good beats, good riffs.
Just fuck no. Outrageously boring and shit and annoying
A bit of fun right! A bit of a pick me up after the bank hol. I enjoyed it enough!
I feel like I have heard this band before but can't think what song. Now there were certain elements of this I really liked and reminded me of the band Caroline. Warm and tuneful. Then there were other bits I did not like at all and fit into that style of folk that feels ambling with no direction and like improv but in a bad way. I don't know entirely what to give this
I found this very drab and slow and not interesting.
Not really my thing although I do like ambient lo fi stuff I just didn't think this was that good
Very twee and boring. I did not enjoy at all
Don't tell Will but I actually found this a bit of a drag. It was all quite samey and a bit mopey. I have enjoyed other Portishead stuff before but this was a drag I'm afraid..
I enjoyed this! Tuneful and interesting. Good fun
Not my bag tbh but I imagine it is good fun pop
HELLNO. Genuinely made me upset and angry
I haven't got the time to write how much I hated this
Found this quite slow and mopey. Not in a good way as obviously melancholic music can be amazing...
A bit too jazzy for me maybe! Nice enough background music though
No my thing. Felt generic
Finally something decent! A refreshing uplift after absolute dirge recently. This was spunky and fun. I liked it
Yes I was actually quite into this! Just some enjoyable vintage indie
Perfectly pleasant background music. As ever not my bag but I appreciate the musicality
Yeah this was a surprise! Kind of mad and exciting and OTT, but I appreciated it in the same way I do Pink Floyd. I couldn't possibly listen to it all the time but I appreciated it for what it is
Not my bag really but wasn't terrible!
Oh just so not my thing. Just irritating and predictable
Finally! An album I wanted to listen to. Incidentally I've listened to this a fair amount recently as Will and I saw the 20th anniversary Bloc Party gig.
This album is ultimate nostalgia hit for my teens. I loved Bloc Party, thanks to Chris Balestrini. It was some solid indie. It's youthful music now looking back on it, I wonder how much I would appreciate it coming at me new now, probably not so much. But still it holds up in many ways! Great songs!
Absolute rubbish. So cringe
This grew on me actually. At first I thought it was irritating and twee, but I ended up enjoying the second half of the album a lot more. Much more fun
I mean it's a classic right! I have fond memories of discovering this album as a mid teen, and dare I arrogantly say, before Bon Iver were well known at all. One of the songs was on some late night Radio 1 show for discovering new music. I quicky scribbled down the name and song and that's how my fandom began. I then did lots of classic YouTube searches trying to absorb everything him and the band had done. I also remember playing it to friends, and in particular giving Philippa a headphone in Costa to see what she thought of Flume. I think she liked it but most people weren't too fussed I seem to remember! And now look at them.
Fond memories of new music discovery
Yeah this was pretty good! I enjoyed it on a moderate level but I wouldn't listen again
Well it's just a masterpiece isn't it. The best pop album to come out in such a long time. The only pop album I've cared about recently.
Everything about Chappell Roan is so like able. Everything she represents, how fun she is, her voice is incredible and her songs make you feel so much. Perfection
The most beige and boring thing album. None of it resonated with me
Yeah a bit of classic rock fun! I was up for it
This really isn't my thing. A lot of it felt very beige and uninteresting. Some songs were ok I suppose. I just didn't care. I understand these sisters are talented singers. Little mermaid and all that
This reminds me of early 20s. And I really appreciate it for what it is. It's not something I would listen to regularly, a bit too intense and epic. Definitely suited me more when I was younger. But I still think it's good music!
Didn't interest me at all. Cliche. Boring. Beige
Reminded me a bit of the National which I have a love hate relationship with. I wasn't sure how to feel about this. A bit cringe at times, certain parts were *OK*. I don't think it was bad per se
Listened to this on maternity leave while deep cleaning the oven. Felt incongruous with my new trad wife persona. Did not enjoy
I have had to get my head round Paramore a bit. I have grown respect for them in recent years when various friends have explained why they are good, their extensive repertoire and style.
This must be the album I know the best, plenty of hits that were on the radio at the time. I enjoyed it enough! I respect the song writing and Haley is an incredible vocalist. Still probably not going to be my thing going forward, but like I said I do respect it rather than writing off as silly emo
Yeah just a no from me! Just irritating
I just can't do jazz. I find it such hard work.
Ah well it was nice to hear such a nostalgic album! What an iconic time of our teens this pop punking stuff. Not something I'd love anymore but have to rate highly on being of it's time
Well it's better than One Direction nonsense but I just don't care. It's like totally fine as normal bog standard pop music, I do not get the hype.
Totally beige and annoying and nothing
Not fussed about this either.
