Red Dirt Girl

Fantastic little slice of afro jazz and even features a nice drum solo from Ginger Baker!
A nugget of the origins of US punk rock - what more to say? A bunch of classic tracks (Blitzkrieg Bop, Judy Is a Punk, I wanna Be Your Boyfriend, I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You) and even one invoking the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Makes me wanna grab my guitar and bop along!
A highly listenable chunk of quite proggy metal from the inventors of the genre themselves. However, at times I found the songs rather self-indulgent without being memorable and inspiring. There are riffs and hooks spread throughout but none really grabbed me. Except, that is, for the standout track on this album, "Changes", which really stands apart from the rest of the tracks. A solid 3/5 from me!
I'm not a huge fan of disco/pop so it's difficult to give a truly unbiased review of this record. I will say that the opening track is infectious and has a class use of random distortion in the opening second to contrast with the tight beats and harmonies that come after in the first song. One to listen to for some of the pioneers of disco.
not a fan of hip hop but this stuff is classic. The lyrics are hard-hitting, the beats and hook lines infectious.
What more can be said of such a well-known and loved album? It's packed full of heavy riffs with a fine balance between melody and slabs of metal guitar. An instant classic, synonymous with the middle period of the band's career as they went through the gears to transform into the metal behemoth the world knows today. Favourite songs obviously include Enter Sandman, Sad But True and the Unforgiven but honourable mention go without doubt to Of Wold And Man for a change up in rythmn
Overall I find this genre of music too chaotic to latch onto anything in particular. However, the opening track is a sceeching fill in the first few seconds that grabbed me. Overall, the sounds are just a little harsh (in terms of timbre) and pointed in terms of pitch and melody for my ears.
It's Santana. This album features THE classic Santana guitar tone, music style, level of expression, and so on. Not my absolute favourite so gets 4/5 but probably should get 5/5

Wonderful mix of bossa nova and 1970s pop. Amazing this album was only at the start of his career!
A fabulous voice, effortlessly moving between styles and injecting passion into every note and lyric. Not my absolute favourite style and I think some of the songs drag a little but overall a lovely listen.
Mostly boring and drawn out for no apparent reason. However, I can see from where some of the later 90s electronic music was inspired. Worth a listen. Once.
Fantastic voice, only the one single that got me interested though: "Walk On By"
If you're a fan of misery pop and jingly jangly Smiths-style indie rock then go for it. Interesting to hear some of Morrissey's right-wing tendencies come tumbling out in the lyrics, very clumsily done.
Beatles perfection, from top to bottom
Nicely constructed but uninspiring. Similar to Elliott Smith but without the overall virtuosity. At times boring rythms and forgettable lyrics. Fine if you like that but I'll stick to Elliott Smith.
