John CaleAt least with Kale you get the feeling you’re doing something good for your body, even if you don’t enjoy it. Unlike this Cale.

Much like Off the Wall, though it contains some iconic tracks, it’s not my favourite album from the band.
I’ll grant it some cultural significance. And co-produced by Mick Is pretty cool. The lyrics are decent and the sound is fine, but the whole sounds dated and lacks.
I guess I should preface this by saying that Wake Me Up When September Ends might be one of my most hated commercially successful songs. Add in my mostly negative opinion if pop or post punk, and I just can’t enjoy this album. But, I’ll grant it a few solid tracks and it has aged relatively well.
Ok, this is why we do this, to find gems that you wouldn’t ordinarily come across. I do have a bit of a soft spot for this era of “rock” AKA early country. Not something I would put on regularly, but at a nice dingy bar on a Sunday afternoon as you swill some PBR in a can, definitely.
The ever present issue in rankings list: how much to count the context in which the album was released vs the quality of the content itself? Is it a personal preference or a wholistic ranking? All in all I was glad to revisit this album with fresh eyes. I think the sound is remarkably fresh, always a good sign. Lyrically strong. Not my favourite Radiohead album, but a solid listen. I’ll round it up.
At first I hated it. But the more I listened, the more I found to enjoy. Don’t know the exact history, but you can hear lots of influences in there, I’m sure they’re a cult darling of many future alt bands.
This album really build in terms of momentum and song quality. By the time you hit the number of the beast, you are flying, and the last four songs just haul ass. Hallowed be thy name, a top 5 metal song??
A few songs almost got there, but overall nothing that moved the needle.
Me - only four songs? Nice. Also me, half hour later - how am I only on song two?! Not a bad sound. There could be a time and place for this.
That’s a nah for me dog.

The 70’s were an absolutely prolific time for Stevie and Innervisions kicks off what, in my opinion, he threw best albums. I struggled with whether it was a 4 or a 5, but ultimately there are songs on this album I could do without, so 4.
I have never made it through a Billy Joel album before. Probably won’t again, unless another one comes up on this list. Not terrible, but didn’t do much for me.
I do love me some early 90’s hip hop. But, while this one has some jams, overall it’s too preachy for my blood.
Album holds up.
I was a little surprised to see this one pop up, wasn’t sure J5 would get the love compared to many of their contemporaries. It still sounds good though.
She’s got skills. If I was on a road trip and only had this album, I’d let it go for a few turns. Not sure I’m reaching for it otherwise. Anyone else get the feeling she knows heartbreak?
Definitely didn’t hold up to the hype it has when it came out.
I might have found the album cover to be more engaging than the album.
It’s fine.
These 90’s techno albums just don’t cut it over a full album. Couple jams, but I wouldn’t give it another spin.
Apple did a good job selling the album. But, I returned it.
This album had some range to it. I’ll give it another go down the road.
I mean, come on.
Great album. It’s a shame there is a generation that only knows Ozzy as a guy who mumbles around the house and burns omelettes, or whatever the hell he did on that show.
The highs are high, but there are some forgettable songs.
Is this what sublime would have sounded like if Bradley Nowell had stayed clean?
So the Beatles left some Zombies in their wake?
I had high hopes, but it was just fine. Good coffee shop backdrop.
Pretty sure this is the album Shaun puts on when he’s in the bubble bath.
What a treat for the weekend. Listened to it twice on Friday alone.
Great, now I can’t eat meat. Overall, not the first Smiths album I reach for, so it was nice to get through the whole thing. Tough to rate, rounded down.
Tough album to rate on one listen. I really dug some parts and others were skippable. Overall, I’d give it another spin at some point, so I’ll round it up.
Been a minute since I spun this one. I have trouble with these iconic albums, how do they actually hold up? I enjoyed it, but definitely not as much as I once did. Still deserves credit for its place in the pantheon.
Not much to be said here.
So that’s what Robert Goulet would sound like if he were born in Paris. Fun fact, Brel was on the toilet when they took this picture. I’d bet dollars to donuts Jacques Brel is on a Wes Anderson soundtrack. If I were wearing a tux and drinking champagne I might put this on again.
Great story. Great man. Decent album. I find with a lot of really prolific singer-songwriters most of their stuff is only ok.
Christmas 97 - I bought this album for my brother. Unsure exactly why, but it was a hit and got a lot of spins. I like some techno/dance as background work music, but I don’t think they’re great for sitting down and listening too.
The darlings of the late eighties/early 90’s alt rock-indie turned major label stars, who can deny the sound and the lyrics?
Based on the description, I wanted to like this, but it was only ok. I may dig into the catalogue a bit though.
Hard to rate, I didn’t hate it. The sound was somewhat novel and had some character to it. Not something I’d reach for everyday. Not unlike cider.
Another one ITunes didn’t have. So I went and listened to Idlewild South, which should encompass much of the live show. Nice little album. Some range.
I’ve been waiting for this one as it is another album I’ve never actually listened to start to finish. To give it its respect, I’ve listened to it 5 times in the last 24 hours. It’s really good. You can hear a lot of different sounds in there. And who doesn’t enjoy a concept album? Oh, just me?
What a pinnacle album in the personal history of Jason Schweizer. This album was among those first albums that I purchased myself and represented the divergence from just listening to what my parents did to forging my own musical taste. Replaying it, it’s easy to forget how good the early RHCP albums were. I find most of their recent music to be good, but forgettable. This album checks all the boxes.
Nice to dig past Pink Moon in the catalogue of Nick Drake. Nice album to pop on when it’s frigid outside and you got a mug full of coffee and whiskey.
I did not enjoy this.
It was probably better if you like jazz.
Certified banger.
