A classic. The perfect indie rock guitar album. Amazing lyrics and guitar tones.
Found this record to be plodding and monotonous. Not for me.
Still can't understand anything Liz is singing, but mostly I enjoy all the Cocteau Twins have released. I do find the all the guitars (and everything else that isn't the bass) excessively bright, but I can get past it.
Vocals on The Fall records are not polished, but this was worse than usual.
I'm not a fan of hair/spandex rock and I'm especially uninterested in anything by Van Halen.
Not something I'd put on in my free time, but super interesting. Sort of like if Kraftwerk were into jazz.
Some pop is too quirky for me, and this is that kind of pop.
Songs feel kind of underwritten to me?
Songwriting powerhouse. Mostly enjoyed it.
Really enjoy McCartney's bass playing, but the songs on this record, well, bore me. I'm okay with "Band on the Run" and "Jet," but the rest just recedes into the background for me (with the possible exception of the more upbeat "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five").
It just all sounds the same to me. His voice isn't particularly great and the cliched vocals are annoying. Some pretty good guitar playing, though.
Enjoyed this record quite a bit. Some of it reminded me of something that would result from crossing Public Image Limited with Pink Floyd.
I enjoy the Radiohead albums that are more melodically inclined, but I rarely skip over their music.
I could listen to Joplin listen to just about anything and enjoy it, I figure.
It's OK. Not a fan of the guitar tone: sounds like they have their chorus cranked to 11. I know this band is a seminal new wave group, but it's just not for me.
These are clearly incredibly talented musicians. Still sounds like muzak/hold music to me. I want to like this; I do not like this.
cons: saxophone bass tone is awful pros: memorable melodies good songwriting
meh. A more aggressive and less clever Sloan?
I'm giving it 3 stars, but it's more like 2.5 for me. There's nothing to hum coming away from this, and there's only so much plinky synth I can handle.
Sort of neat blend of latin and electronic styles, but not my thing. If it were, I'd probably be voting this way higher. If I could avoid voting at all, I would.
Polly Jean Harvey cannot hit notes. I like the idea of PJ Harvey, but I can't stand the singing. Nothing hummable. Where are the melodies?
Sort of like The Jimi Hendrix experience without any of the hooks.
This is...really eclectic. It's just all over the map in terms of genre and tone. For the right person that is going to be amazing! Every song is like listening to a new band! I am not that person.
This will be amazing art pop for people into stuff that Kate Bush excels at. I am not those people.
I'm not sure I've ever listened to this record from start to finish (though I recognize just about every song on it). A gem of an indie rock album that is chockablock with awesome tracks. I don't think it's quite a 4 star for me, but I'm giving it that because 3.75 is not an option.
As much as I like the idea of Nick Cave, I've just never been into his music.
I love so much of Brian Eno's work. But I don't love this. At all. I know this is considered one of his most important works, but I just can't get into it. It's jagged and anxiety inducing.
No thanks.
Love Radiohead, but not this album
Love it.
The music of Talking Heads has a way of making me nervous. It's anxiety-inducing, and I'm not sure why.
Amazing musicianship, but I don't come away humming Yes melodies.
