1001 Albums Summary

Most tracks are ruined by the obnoxious, overbearing drums. Black Cat (easily the best song on the album) is the only up-tempo track that doesn’t suffer from this. The songs are too long without really going anywhere. I like long songs, but not when they are just repeating themselves. The album is too long, as a consequence.

Their earlier stuff is better. I prefer their instrumentals.

A pleasant surprise

CCR too one-dimensional for me.

Their last couple of albums have been misfires, but this is Muse at their bombastic, glorious best.

I'm not a huge RHCP fan, but this is my favourite of their albums. Like most albums since the advent of CDs, it is too long. The quality clearly drops off over the last few tracks, but there are enough good ones in the first half to make this a great album.

A fairly uninspiring collection of post-punk sameyness. Not terrible, but goes on for too long.

I must remember this album if I am ever having trouble getting to sleep.

An interesting traditional album. Signs of increasing songwriting maturity while still certainly being "early Beatles".

Not my thing at all, but I can recognise that it is well executed.

I've never understood the appeal of Bob Dylan. This is not a terrible album - there are a few songs I quite enjoy - but it seems like Dylan is playing a character, an impression of a country yokel. It just doesn't feel genuine.

I'm sure this is very good if you like this kind of thing, but it's a bit too American for me.

45 minutes of three guys yelling at me over a drum machine, is not really my thing. Some of the tracks that have actually music on them are not bad, though. Fight For Your Right is a classic, but I can't listen to No Sleep Till Brooklyn without thinking of Morris Minor and the Majors.

Probably not fair for me to judge, as jazz is a genre that leaves me cold. This is pleasant enough to have on in the background, but I couldn't imagine sitting down and listening to it.

I can only assume Constant Craving is at the end to try to get people to sit through the rest of the album first.

Who would have thought that the drummer from Nirvana had this in him?
