1001 Albums Summary

Fundamental blues album. Amazes me how much of rock n roll really does derive from this man’s work.

I’ll always prefer elephant over this one, but it’s amazing how mature Jack White’s sound is even so early in his career. Single handedly revived the blues and carried the classic-rock-n-roll torch into the 21st century.

For some reason, I can’t help but think of the kinks as some alternate universe band of what Paul McCartney would sound like if he never met John. The songs are usually so tight, focused on catchiness and can often have a quirky, “granny” -ness to them. This was a fun album, not my favourite listen I found it a bit repetitive but a good listen.

As a Radiohead fan, I see the comparables and have avoided Muse because they’re often held as a knock-off of RH. This album is a solid listen all the way through. While their best moments are very Radiohead-like, they add their own mood to the mix and make for an enjoyable experience.

This and the previous kinks take are only leading me to believe im not a big kinks fan. I can definitely see the innovation and influence they had given this album is from ‘68, but there’s a certain daintiness I don’t really enjoy from them. Enjoyable enough listen, but the lack of edge over the course of a full album rubbed me the wrong way. A couple of decent head-bobbers on there, but nothing that Wowed me.

This is a good electronic album ? I say with a question mark because while this was enjoyable, it sounds a lot like most electronic albums I’ve ever heard. The genre doesn’t do a lot for me when I’m listening on my own. Very neat for performances, enjoyable when your with a group or at a party, but for individual listening this wouldn’t crack my favourites. Still an enjoyable listen, and I like having it in my back pocket for electronic enjoying friends or for suitable occasions.

Going down the 1001 albums road, I fully expected to have a few albums I don’t care for come up. A 1980s Michael Jackson type of album from D’Arby I would think would fit into that category, but it was fairly enjoyable. Not going to be on repeat in the car any time soon, but the singles are catchy, the album is consistent, very enjoyable listen.

I appreciate Wu Tang Clan and their lyricism, wit and approach to the rap game. I would consider them the best group ever, and many of the individuals as solo artists some of the best rappers ever period. Having said that, I find the 90s era attempts all kinda blend together and have so many similarities that they don’t stand out. This album fits into that trend. Enjoyed listening to it, but is it better than 36 Chambers ? No. Does it offer enough differences to make me go here instead of 36 for a different Wu Tang vibe ? Not really.

Cool jazz album. Didn’t move me but enjoyed listening to it.

Easy listening rock. Great song writing surprised this has never been on my radar before.

It went by so quickly. Very melodic, verging in hypnotic sounds at some points. Really enjoyed it.

Certainly not the genre that would be high on my priority list to check out, and that’s part of the reason I’m forcing myself to do this project so that’s good! Solid album, a nice mix of vibes and moods for the most part and a lot of head bobbers. Didn’t amaze me at any point, I think because other groups have taken inspiration and done these sounds so the novelty has worn off, but an enjoyable experience overall. TLC’s Waterfalls is an absolute, timeless bop.
