2472 - Okay, this is his surpassing of Off The Wall, some of the best songs of the 80s on one album with his unique synthy style.
Blows most hard rock out of the water with tight melodic playing. The only flaw is the production is a bit rougher than it should be. The later albums sound perfect. A.
Obvious masterpiece with insane production value. The opening track is probably his best song. I love the disco elements and the heavy funk bass combined with virtuoso vocals.
Probably her best album, it's shorter than previous album that had some big highlights but lulls after the A-Side, but this one keeps it shorter and is consistently great.
2867 - I didn't like this too much before, but since then I have grown an appreciation for clean vocals in metal. This takes sludge metal and fuses it with a radio friendly production to create alternative metal that still has atmosphere and grit to it. The vocals are honestly kind of incredible in this album, they do more for this album than the vocals on most pop albums, and the guitar works with them perfectly.
2583 - Production is good, so is the drumming, but the vocals and song writing are not particularly invigorating.
2599 - This is alright, but it's a very niche type of pop rock music. It's sort of like Verve but even more commercial sounding, or Blur but swagless.
2599 - This is alright, but it's a very niche type of pop rock music. It's sort of like Verve but even more commercial sounding, or Blur but swagless.
2624 - The A-Side was pretty good, but after that point is falls off, feels like mostly filler.
2632 - Well produced pop rock with wonderful arrangements. The vocals are obviously some of the best of this era and it has a few of the best songs of the 70s. A
2674 - This is alright, it's pretty standard 00s britpop, but if you like that then this is up there withe early coldplay. A bit dull. C
This sounds pretty dated, like a budget Kanye album. Lupe is also the weakest element here, the beats are generally more interesting than him. There are some interesting and creative moments, although I feel like the strings on the track are more bait for the easily impressed by sampling types than strong beat themselves. I'd say this is an above average 00s hip hop album. C
Fun and bouncy acoustic rock music. B
2681 - This isn't as good as Origin of Symmetry, but it's probably their second best album. It is more eclectic and pop oriented, which I do think is a direction that works for them. B
2692 - Technically competent, but very boring. I like the country songs. C
The TPAB of Close Harmony. B
This is close to Discipline by Kc, had no idea Robert Fripp is the guitarist in Heroes. The B-Side is not as strong as the A-Side, he is doing like Low, but the ambient tracks aren't as good here. It's not as good as Low, but almost as good and one of the best rock albums. A
I enjoy this genre of music and this production style, these songs are just boring. There are a few standout tracks, the singles, but everything else is just wispy nonsense. "Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo" over and over. Shallow. D
This is respectable old school punk fused with modern alternative rock trends and production to make something radio friendly yet full of edge. However, I will rate it low from hearing it a lot as a kid. C
This is respectable old school punk fused with modern alternative rock trends and production to make something radio friendly yet full of edge. However, I will rate it low from hearing it a lot as a kid. C
Raucous punk rock in the style of the Stooges. Guitars have this nice stoner fuzz to them. A
2791 - Is this a joke? I like these genres, but this guy has terrible vocals. This is like a Soulless Otis Redding. If this came out today, people would ask what headset microphone he used. This has such a high budget, yet Marvin Gaye's bathroom trips probably have a better production value than this.
2819 - It's good, but I don't love it or connect with it. It's basically Billy Joel but not as good. C
2934 - There's a lot of hits on here and this is a compelling fusion of trip hop and rock music. B
One of the best album of the 60s, amazing pop that doesn't have any of the trope of pop music that make it cliche. After hearing the Rolling Stones attempt at this genre, it's nice to hear an expert. Definetly influential in South American music. A+
Lush and pretty early synth pop music. B
Lush and pretty early synth pop music. B
Okay, this one is her best album, while some of her later albums have more interesting arrangements, having jazz elements and whatnot, this has the strongest songwriting of her career, all the songs are very sharp and better produced than the previous albums. A
Innovative post-boom bap beats that expertly uses soul samples. This has some of the best songs of his career on it, unfortunately it's not very consistent like his later albums are.
Has two undeniable hits, the rest of this sounds like a David Bowie album but not as good. Some of the songs are not that good and go over 6 minutes long. I will rate this higher than it deserves for the singles.
Relaxing breakbeat music. Loved the two samba tracks. C
Classic prog album, the A-Side is perfect, the b-side isn't as good, so it comes into the middle as an A.
2936 - That bass is delicious. Wonderful new wave pop.
Various instruments from jazz, classical and electronic are utilized to support some of the most intimate, unique pop music of the 80s. A
Pretty good debut, takes the harsh punk rock sound of the sex pistols but applies it for dissonant, atmospheric tribal music. Note that it's atmospheric because they can't play fast. C
This is like if the Strokes didn't know how to write memorable hooks and also if you hard plagiarized Bob Dylan.
Love the more punk cuts on this, decade defining sound. A
Not as perfect as the Alice in Chains unplugged, but still a very good addition for an artist with a limited discography, including some amazing covers. A
Has some good moments, but it's Steely Dan but not as good. C
Great atmospheric funk with soul vocals.
Not very consistent and too experimental without much things really grounding it. Has some amazing tracks, but not much else is too good on here besides that. B
Not bad, but this is mostlly background music. The first track was pretty good, but it has a 3 minute outro for no reason. D
It's competent, but not very passionate or anything. C
Definitely their best album. Has career highlights in one concise length.
It's alright, but not the best British blues rock album I have heard. D
It's a pretty good album, but I am definitely glad it wasn't his last album. It's an alright sort of return to form, sounds like it could have been recorded in the late 80s. It's not his best stuff but you can tell he is trying his hardest to make a diverse album with good songwriting. B
Besides the single, this is just not as good as their last two albums, and none of them were that good. C
Creative dark folk rock in the vein of White Chalk with dark, grand lyricism. A
It's like a softer Nevermind, enjoyable enough. B
It's good, but I liked Cook County more. C
This is their best album up to this point for sure, very consistent and with some of their best songs and a diverse pallete of their styles. Actually the album that got me into music. A
Ths is like Prince but not as good, but it's still pretty good out there synthy new wave. B
It's an alright new wave punk album that has a few standout tracks. C
It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (1988) is already a classic, an overwhelming and sophisticated sample of revolutionary music. The rappers press dramatic and paroxysmal in a jumble of rap noises, casual bandits, scratch improvisations (Terminator X, aka Norman Rogers, the scratch wizard) and electronic noise. The traditional kinds are massacred by the process of mimesis. Louder Than A Bomb's funk-like funk , the overwhelming anthem Rebel Without A Pause , the heavy-metal unleashed by Channel Zero , the oriental hypnosis of Shaw 'Em Whatcha Got , the dadaist cacophonies of Terminator X , the sarabandas funky-tropical Bring The Noise, the dissonant minimalism of Black Steel , are alienated by demented arrangements that enhance the tribal qualities. The real protagonist of this mosaic art is the producer and arranger Hank Shocklee (the leader of the "Bomb Squad" who is credited with the production): he is the one to construct with a meticulous method the pieces that the lyrics of Ridenhour transform then in war songs. Drayton is his giullaresco counterpart, and the alternation of tones of the two constitutes in itself an important novelty. A
This has to be one of the best ones. You have some of his best longer acoustic tracks on disc one and some of this best electric tracks on disc 2. A
I actually liked this the most of his albums, has some of his best songs, and it's very consistent throughout, definetly influenced by artist I like such as Prince & Kanye. A
Cohesive experience on par with the first album, while less consistent, contains some of his best songs. A
The opening track is memorable, but not amazing or anything, and the rest is just indietronica whateverism. F
Has three good songs, and the rest suck. Terrible sound, even on mono, which is apparently much better than the stereo sound. Perhaps a compilation with just the singles by this band is worthwhile. D
Angular well produced rock that combines dissonance and melody like nothing else. B
Meandering nonsense and La Grange. F
This is next level. I love D'Angelo and he's on this. This is basically a hip hop version of his sound, and his sound is incredible. Deep funky grooves with poetic raps that still won't let go of the street. A+
This album should be better than the first album, it should be a masterpiece. But it's not, because the production is bad. There are two mixes, the Bowie mix is the one I go with and it's not well mixed. The Iggy mix is too tame however, and takes out most of the energy. The 2023 version of the Bowie mix is what I went with, but the bass guitar and stuff is way too quiet still. Anyways I have to take points off for being such a mess on this front, the first album sounds perfect, and so does the second one, so I don't know why they didn't repeat that. B
Very good early artsy electronic music. B
It's good, but their greatest hits compilation collects the best stuff on here. C
Some people seem to really like this, but it just sounds like sloppy hippy nonsense. I am surprised it has so many mixing engineers on it because it sounds like basement tapes. F
Not quite as good as the last album, but it has that dissonant guitar, fretless bass and iconic vocals. Some of their best songs are on here. A
Ah yeah, this is not for me. The strumming sounds nicely recorded but this is too hokey and it's British Blues a genre I do not care for. D
Really enjoyable, this takes pop music and adds in lots of rock, country and jazz elements. The guitar is one of the best parts. B
Technically competent but I don't like how it's mixed and I don't think it stands out in any way. D
Seriously why is this on here, I've never heard of this artist ever, there isn't some hit single inflating the albums standing like the beta band album. Why is generic alt rock on here, this is the Posies but generic.
Very high quality art rock album, an ideal example of the genre. Unique electronic elements, diverse songs and the ability to be both artsy and accessible at once. A
The singles are all pretty memorable and good. The rest is just okay. C
Possibly their best album, takes the best parts of their normal sound with the exploration of maggot brain. A
Phil Specter's brand of sugary pop music combined with christmas music is really a magical combination that was made to be. The perfect way to have a fun, classy christmas album. B
Beautiful, lush chamber folk with a dark, serious tone. A+
This is the album he sells out, but that's just what he needed. His solo folk albums fell off at this point, being little more than ramblings over guitar strumming, but on this one he is totally revitalized. A+
This is well made, but I'm just not the target audience for it. I don't really want to rate it, it's good, just not my thing.
30 - Really solid soul funk album with tasty instrumentals and virtuoso vocals. It's sort of like an 80s Marvin Gaye sound, has some real highlights, seems underrated online. B
Much better than the last album. Early atmospheric post-punk. B
Super catchy and unforgettable pop rock that expertly uses synths and power chords to make the best music to driving around with the radio on. The perfect middle ground between the Talking Heads, Dire Straits & Weezer. A
