Enjoying more than I thought I would. I regret not hearing this in middle school, I would have loved it. I like the guitar solos. I like the heaviness. Overall glad I listened!

This is exactly why I’m doing this listening project. No clue how I missed out on Neu! all these years but I am so into this.

Boring and dated. Enjoyed 2 songs. Not the hits so much. Overall did not age well to my ears.

Some really wonderful songs on this album. I will never get tired of Dancing Queen. ABBA is so important.

So deliciously weird while still showcasing solid pop sensibilities. Very listenable for being so strange. I particularly enjoy the philosophical POV. In my personal top 50 for sure.

I was in high school when this came out and I was not into it. This kind of pop rock was not something I was drawn to. I thought it was way too mainstream and uninteresting. However, I am at my core a poptimist who wants to enjoy things. I like fun! This is fun. “Somebody Told Me” is an outright banger. I’m hearing some Britpop influence which I appreciate. Overall decent but much more fun at the beginning than the end.

Absolutely captivating. Gorgeous melodies and instrumentation. Played 3 times today. Strangely comforting. Iconic and singular voice. 5/5

Hell yeah glam revival

Hate the vocals. Hate the sound. Love the song Drive; I don’t think it’s a particularly good song but it has something. Hate everything else about this. It was fun to roast with my partner, so we kept ourselves entertained.

It’s so important to listen to this as 4 sides of a double album instead of the solid block that we get on a stream. These songs are beautifully written and performed and I really appreciate the journey between genres. Side 3 “Consider” is a stand out for me. Overall an important and underrated entry in the history of rock n roll.

Enjoyable

Absolutely iconic album that without question deserves its acclaim and recognition on this list. If you don’t like this, I don’t trust you, period.

I wish I could go to a rave in the uk in the 90s

Big Star is so important, influential, and ahead of their time, and no one has heard of them. Meanwhile, my home turf dive bar is named after them (shout out Big Star Bar HTX), I’ve sang in a Big Star cover band, and even I have never given this album its due. The unfinished feeling is oddly compelling and there are some real gems here.

Really beautiful, still sounds unique and fresh all these years later.

Look, it’s not terrible, and the first couple of songs are good. But the longer it goes, the more bored I get. I liked this when it came out but I do not think it belongs on this list. There are better blues artists.

Can you imagine being so simple minded you can’t enjoy jazz? A horrifying thought I had while reading these reviews. Anyway this is an absolute masterpiece.

I forgot how absolutely gorgeous this album is and I’m very happy to be reminded.

I don’t particularly like Arcade Fire. I mean, sure, I did love Funeral in my college years, and I did think The Suburbs was a pretty great album, but nothing about them drove me to listen more. Neon Bible completely surpassed my expectations. Even my Arcade Fire hating boyfriend came by mid-listen and said, I like this album, who is this? This album is absolutely among their best and might even be something I listen to again.

Massively influential. Rough, raw, noisy, messy, and an absolute delight. A direct line from The Velvet Underground to punk.

I forgot U2 is actually a really great band. This is a very good album. It’s fashionable to hate on U2 and I am so over that.

As an XTC fan I do think this is an odd selection for the list and it is probably super divisive. I personally can’t get enough of beatlesy beach boysy psychedelia so I think this is an excellent listen. I really hope there are other XTC albums because they have so so much great music.

This was a treat. Extremely expressive and you can hear the influence his vocal style had on rock and roll music to come.

It’s a very fun listen. My teenager said it was really good.

My whole household enjoyed listening to this. I don’t find the content offensive, I see it as a snapshot of a life completely foreign to me, like anthropology. Beats are great. Obviously hugely impactful.

I really like the production on this album. I like that it sounds dated. I like Janet’s vocals. This is a solid album.

This is a treasure. Another band I wish I would have known when I was in high school in the early 00’s. I absolutely loved listening to this. Perfect 2000-style vocals. I can really hear the influence of OK Computer.

Every time I listen to Dark Side I decide, again, that it is NOT overrated and is one of the most beautifully human pieces of art I know. Us and Them is the standout. Just a gorgeous, immaculately written/performed/recorded/engineered reflection of the human experience.

Not your average folk album. Jazz influence and structure keeps things interesting. Guitars are very very good. Some early music influence. I’m absolutely glad I listened.

I love The Who but I wasn’t sure about this at first. It definitely grew on me. I appreciate how ambitious this is and I’m pretty impressed by the execution.

Groovy

Revolver has always been my favorites, but I recently listened to the entire Beatles discography and took the time to put every Beatles era in context. What I learned is that Revolver/Rubber Soul is absolutely the best era of The Beatles. This album is so impressively balanced for being a complex kaleidoscope of styles. Baroque pop (Eleanor Rigby, For No One), Indian classical (Love You To), psychedelic (I’m Only Sleeping, She Said She Said, Tomorrow Never Knows), r&b (got to get you into my life), some proto punk (Taxman), soft love ballad (Here There and Everywhere), and a straight up children’s song (Yellow Submarine). And the harmonized guitars on And Your Bird Can Sing?! Very heavy metal. Somehow the entire album is beautifully cohesive and not one aspect is too much or out of balance. Not to mention the studio recording innovations that begin to shape the band’s output. Revolver is one of the best albums ever made, full stop.

This worked for me. Very 1997. Good listen.

I need to stop reading the reviews on this god forsaken website. No one here likes fun, or, like, music. New Order is fun. This is a fucking vibe. It’s ok for things to sound like the time they are from. God forbid a band double down on a synth pop sound that they basically fucking invented.

It’s a classic for a reason.

Gorgeous songwriting and sense of melody.

After two listens I’m hooked. I, like many millennials, was introduced to The Kinks through Wes Anderson film soundtracks but I’ve never listened more intentionally. This album is a British pop masterpiece.

Here we have Brian Wilson’s demons egging him on to produce absolutely gorgeous pop perfection before they completely rip him apart.

A high point in a career of high points. Creativity in this era of Bowie is firing on all cylinders.

I love Jeff Beck.

I liked this a lot in 2010. I was skeptical that I would still enjoy it. It is still very good, fun to sing along to, texturally interesting, and extremely relatable. Apparently the Butlers grew up in The Woodlands, north forested suburb of Houston. I grew up in Kingwood, NE forested suburb of Houston, basically The Woodlands Jr. At the end of the day, I have to like this album. It’s very close to home.

Disclaimer: Radiohead has been my favorite band since I was in middle school and this album came out when I was a senior in high school. There is nothing I could possibly give this release except love. This release reflected the anxiety of the time so well. Thom Yorke’s vocals are at a peak on HTTT and In Rainbows, very beautiful and very angsty and very passionate. I love the dissonant harmonies and his use of vibrato. The balance of weird electro and moody rock they created on these songs is a sweet spot for me. I consider Hail To The Thief underrated in Radiohead’s discography, but of course I do, I was 16 when I first bonded with this record.

I love an extremely dated 80s sound. It’s like being wrapped in a cozy blanket. I’m Your Man is extremely good, not what I expected from Cohen at all, but it really does it for me.

Pink Floyd is timeless, however this one is a bit much for me. I won’t pretend like it’s not a huge achievement. I respect it. There are some great songs. But personally this is a rough listen.

Bf had just bought a haul of used CDs at End of an Ear in Austin. He was going through them as he asked which album I pulled today. Went to check and said Oh it’s the one you’re holding IN YOUR HAND. Cool coincidence. Perfect album.

Green Day was my favorite band when I was 13. By the time American Idiot was released, I had moved on and I had never given this album a legitimate chance. I guess it’s true what they say about your favorite bands at age 13 being your favorite bands for the rest of your life. I can’t escape my love of Green Day. I’m actually a little surprised by how much I enjoyed listening to American Idiot. I was not expecting to fall in love with this album. Vocals are extremely fun to sing along with. Guitar absolutely rips. Rhythm is tight as always. Lyrics are very interesting. It’s certainly ambitious. It shouldn’t work as well as it does, but the individual pieces are so strong it makes up for the overall structure being a bit wobbly. It’s kind of like if The Decline by NOFX was an hour long. If Billie Joe Armstrong set out to write about coming of age in 2004, he wrote this album about my peers. I know these people. We’re a fucking mess. All I can say is Thank you Billie Joe.

This list is great for me personally because I adore Britain and British music. I loved this from the first 2 seconds. Surprisingly solid Britpop sound. Will absolutely be returning to this.

This isn’t exactly groundbreaking but it is an excellent pop album. I don’t normally like Jack Antonoff’s production, but Lorde has enough artistic presence to make this his best collab.

What can I possibly say? Crucial. Foundational.

Morrissey is insufferable but I can’t deny the voice is great and there are a couple nice songs here.

One of my favorite albums of all time. Very jazzy. Vocals are perfect. Fascinating, strange, beautiful songs.

If it was 1981 I would love this. In 2026, I like the opener, love Pretty in Pink, I like the vocals, but it becomes a bit of a slog. Overall great sound.

Inoffensive. Low stakes. Guitar is solid. I bet this sounds great in the garage with a cold beer and a joint.

This is a perfect album.
