Ramones
RamonesA truly great album from start to finish. It's amazing how many classics can be squeezed into 29 minutes. Driving fast punk. Impossible to single out best tracks, a masterpiece. Unfortunately I can only give a max of 5 stars

Great music from the start, through the 11 minute album version of Marquee Moon and all the way to the end
OK but not great. Some of the tracks quite interesting but nothing really memorable
Sandy Denny's voice and Richard Thompson's guitar work mean that this is going to be worth listening to. Highlighs: Genesis Hall, Si tu does partir and of course the classic, Who knows where the time goes. One of the best Fock Rock bands
Not for me. Very much formula music 2 star
A double album and it feels like one. Seems to go on forever. After the heights of Rumours a real disappointment.
Awful 😖 I thought I didn't like rap music, now I realise I hate it. Language dreadful (and more importantly totally unnecessary) Best track: Obviously the shortest one.
Sound is ok Songs uninspiring, if you can't write good songs, throw in a few covers
Mainly instrumental tracks. Some of them seemed interesting enough. Blend of rock, jazz and classical Sounds quite dated However as Igor Stravinsky said "a lot of musical pieces end long before they finish. Although I am not sure he was referring specifically to Frank Zappa
Beautiful vocals with simple acoustic guitar backing. Songs are mostly traditional folk songs arranged by Baez. Very strong songs well executed, all in all a great album
A classic album with a number of great tracks. Great rock music Highlighs got to be .. Smells like teen spirit .. Come as you are
Very uninspiring. Not much to excited about.
Reasonably good double album with a few good songs. It does become a little bit irritating when we here all the sudio talking and count ins
A Motown album with something to say. Because it had something to say it was actually released on a minor label owned by Motown. Beautifully performed with thought promoting lyrics. Listen to it in one sitting. Stand out tracks. What's going on Mercy, mercy me Inner city blues Worthy of 5 stars
Not for me.
Great hard driving rock and roll. Hard knuckle sound of bass, guitar and drums. Best tracks ..Gimme all your loving .. Sharp dressed man .. Legs
Yawn. AC/DC without the subtlety. Adding an orchestra only makes it sound even more pompous.
Paise you is quite good, which is in complete contrast to the rest of the album, which is absolutely SH-ONE-T. I don't really understand how repeating the line "fucking in heaven" for several minutes is music Suppose I will have to give it one star
Didn't think I was a Zeppelin fan. I have never listened to one of their albums from start to finish. This album was a revelation, strong tracks from start to end. Best ....Stairway to heaven ... .When the levee breaks .. .The battle of Evermore (Sandy Denny guesting on vocals and an acoustic guitar, a grat recipe for success)
Never even heard of the band before. Great angry punk music although no outstanding songs. Enjoyed the albums guitar and drum base.
Enjoyed this album. Over 50 years old and perhaps sounds a little dated, but no matter, still some great songs. Particularly liked .... Up around the bend . .. Who'll stop the rain .... Long as I can see the light However 11 minutes of "I heard it through the grapevine" got a bit tedious.
Despite what some say the Sex Pistols are nowhere near the best British punk band. This, there only studio album, is full of anger and rebellion, but light on anything else. Maybe if they had survived they would have evolved. Best tracks are the singles. Noteably "Holidays in the sun" and "God save the Queen" .
OK punk album. Quite liked some bits. I would have given 2.5 but that option is not available so I'm afraid isa a 2
I had never heard of this band so I looked up Wikipedia. Supposed to be a genre called "shoegaze." Again still at a loss. Understandable that I approached listening with something trepidation. I need not have worried, it was in fact a pretty good album with some memorable tracks added to my likes. Vapour trail Dreams Burn Down Taste
Utterly horrible. Language, violence, treat not acceptable. Music, just don't get.
If you like American style heavy metal, arena rock then this is for you. Not being an enthusiast I thought it was ok. Favourite tracks were Drop Dead Legs and Hot for the Teacher (but I'm not sure if that is PC anymore)
It's a 4 star from me. Never heard of them beforehand so I didn't know what to expect. Experimental rock and most of the experiments work. The rest is at least interesting. My favourite tracks .. Come together .. I think I am in love .. Electricity
David Bowie is not one of my "go to" artists, but there is no doubting he has produced some great songs. This album contains several great songs ...Aladins Sane . Cracked Actor .. Drive-in Saturday Not to mention the exceptional Jean Genie. Well worth the listen
69 years after the original release. I suppose it was pretty cutting edge at the time but understandably now seems a bit dated. Very much worth listening to as an important historical album (and it does feature "Blue Suede Shoes)
Neil Young is an exceptional guitarist, a great song writer and a barely mediocre singer. This album exemplifies all these points.
Music for dance. Can't fault the musicianship or singing etc. But not really my thing Songs very light and superficial.
I haven't listened to this album for many a year. I remember not being to taken with it back then and I'm afraid I still feel the same. There are a couple of memorable tracks "Band on the run" and "Jet", but they were very much overplayed on radio in the 70s. Best part of the album is trying to work out all the people on the cover photo.
Awful. A lot of mercifully short songs, a medley which made no sense.
Final studio album by the police. Maybe the magic was starting to fade. However still a lot of great stuff especially in the second half. Best tracks Every Breath You Take King of Pain Wrapped Around Your Finger
Great album with a lot of strong tracks. My favourites ...Pop Song 89 ...Stand ...World Leader Pretend Aand of course Orange Crush
Eventually I got round to listening to this album. It is okay but in no way memorable.
The Stones are at there best when they are playing blue. This album is blue heavy so it's got to be a 5
One of the first Prog Rock albums and actually very good. Must have been ground breaking in its day. In all honesty I could have done with a shorter version of Moonchild but that is being picky. Rest of the tracks have been added to my "Likes" 5 Stars
Light on actual songs. Not sure what to make of it. When they attempt a song it is quite pleasant. But the rest? I am in a generous mood so I will give it a 2
Very disappointed with the general quality of the songs on this album. True the extended version of Common People is excellent and Disco 2000 very good. As for the rest, it seems like fillers to me. Not unpleasant but not memorable either.
I had never heard anything about this artist so I looked up reviews before listening. This was a mistake as I think his reprehensible behaviour may have clouded my judgement. Music was ok, songs nothing to write home about. Probably a 2.5 but I need to to make it a whole number Promise not to look up reviews before scoring from now on
The album is a concept album (before concept albums were really a thing). I think this helps it hang together well, It does contain the classic Victoria which is going to be a highlight of any album. All in all strong songs performed by the Kinks, what not to like?
Another band I don't know much about. The album was a mixture of hard blues rock and several quieter acoustic based songs. My favourites 7 Nation Army You've got her in your pocket Ball and Biscuit
A truly great album from start to finish. It's amazing how many classics can be squeezed into 29 minutes. Driving fast punk. Impossible to single out best tracks, a masterpiece. Unfortunately I can only give a max of 5 stars
Another great album from Bowie. The classics which were heard on the radio Changes Oh You Pretty Things Life on Mars Plus some lesser known but worth the listen. Ones which caught my attention were: Andy Warhol Song for Bob Dylan The Bewlay Brothers I liked some of the quieter acoustic based tracks
Loud, fast no nonsense hard rock. Lyrics, if you make them out, are not going to win any poetry prizes. But that is hardly the point. If you are going to play this style of rock then compromise is fatal. Motorhead refuse to compromise. Enjoyed
Did not like at all
Not a band I have listened to before. Quite liked some of the tracks eg Lazyitis and Wrote for Luck. However not really impressed..
Acrobat is not a genre I am familiar with. However I love the rhythms and I liked the sound (most of it) However to quote Captain Sensible "the British charts consisted of Little Jimmy Osmond, the Partridge Family ans 20 minute drum solos. This album has a16 minute drum solo......too much
Pretty woeful. Bits of song submerged in a sea of funny noises
It's okay in places but not very memorable
Reinforces my comment on previous album. Exceptional guitarist, great song writer, barely mediocre vocalist. I understand vocals are very much down to personal taste so this is just an opinion. Despite the above observations I did enjoy
Every so often I decide to try to listen to Pink Floyd and realise that I don't understand it. Maybe I should try some of their later stuff (once I am feeling brave)
Pleasant relaxing music. Great if you are in the mood
A bit boring
Brilliant debut album from Simply Red. I'm not sure they ever surpassed it. Many great original tracks: Holding back the years Picture book Look at you now Plus outstanding covers: Heaven Money's too tight to mention
Krautrock...not something I would go to regularly. But this is good. I liked the quieter moodier tracks and there were a couple of rockier numbers as well. Score 3.5 (but I am in a good mood so it will scrape a 4
Not really keen on this particular album. Does not compare favourably with some of their other work. Disappointed
Hard driving no nonsense punk rock.
Nice enough songs. Nice enough singing. Nice enough instrumentation. It's ok but I can't imagine on what occasion I would listen to it
Great music from the start, through the 11 minute album version of Marquee Moon and all the way to the end
An act that has not aged well The singles were a bit of a novelty at the time. But listening to a whole album nowadays is pure boredom
Imagine must be one of the most overplayed tracks of all time. Album ok but nothing to write home about. Best tracks Jealous Guy I don't want to be a Soldier Mama and How do you Sleep
Sorry. He is probably one of the greatest song writers of his era. This album contains great tracks from start to finish but a live recording emphasises the man just cannot sing
Every time I am asked to review a Neil Young album I feel I have to remark on my opinion of the limitations of the vocals. In the rock setting of Crazy Horse he largely gets away with it. However, in this album with its quieter more reflective vibe it is a real issue. Why have other more accomplished singers doing the backing vocals? On the positive side the songs are strong which makes it a more frustrating listen
Honestly I try to be positive about the albums I listen to, but..... This apparently marked a new musical direction. It may be a new direction but it is hardly musical. I can't give any more than 1 star
Album starts of with a series of boogie tracks with JLH ably assisted by the likes of Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray, George Thorogood and Charlie Musselwhite. We then go onto a number of quieter more reflective tracks.
Eric Clapton and Duane Allman dueting on guitars so it is going worth listening to. Layla, Bell Bottom Blues and a number of blues standard as safe formula for these guys. On the downside it also contains the worst cover of Little Wing I have ever heard
Patchy, some really good interesting tracks others not so. I liked Highly Evolved Factory 1969
Really loved this album. Great songs. Upbeat music. Recorded nearly 70 years ago and still sounds fresh
Neverheard of her so I didn't know what to expect. Turns out to be contemporary folk music, all songs are self-penned. The songs themselves are interesting if sometimes overlong. Unusual to have a harp as the featured instrument. Vocals are not over strong but fit in well with the general feel of the album.
Dreary, dreary, dreary. Even upbeat songs like "blue skies" and "on the sunny side of the street" sound sad, they should sparkle. For me, the vocals lack any emotional connection to the songs, sorry. I can only assume Willie had a dental appointment immediately after the recording session!
No thank you. Could not get my head round this
Haunting vocals. All the songs are interesting although not exactly sing along. Songwriting credits go to the likes of Jackson Browne, John Cale, Dylan and Lou Reed
